Checked out Blick for crochet yarn. It was not too crowded. The store is bright and inviting. Plentiful staff located around store with name tags and aprons if assistance is needed. There are a lot of arts & crafts items, paints, brushes, etc. Prices are decent and can range depending on the product. There was a line at the cashier but moved quickly. Cheaper than Michael's. Very helpful staff. You can request online price match if you have an account with them but they charge shipping fee which is ridiculous especially if you have to carry the items yourself (imagine heavy canvas), which makes no sense. Might as well order online and save yourself the hassle of carrying anything. Minus 2 stars because the logic ain't logicalling. read more

Their framing is beautiful! I've had a couple of watercolors framed there, and they have a nice selection of frames and mats. Their framers are helpful, and they do a great job and wrap the final work really well. Price is the only reason I've marked it down to 4 stars. They regularly have framing sales where prices are 50% or 60% off - don't even think about paying full price! Get on their email list so you know when their sales are. But even with the deep discount, I find the prices high. read more

A few days ago I stopped into Blick shortly before closing because I was on a time crunch and needed to quickly purchase an air brush and compressor. Since this was my first time buying a higher quality air brush set, I spoke to Eleanor who was very helpful in giving me advice on what the best machines would be for what I was looking for. I ended up going with the Blick/Iwata collab kit which comes with everything needed for air brushing (air brush, compressor, spray out jar, inks, cleaning supplies, etc.) It's been so incredibly helpful and made a huge difference in the cosplay costumes I was making compared to the dinky, battery-run air brushes from Amazon. Eleanor even helped give me a discount by price matching the kit from online. Really appreciate it! read more

I hate leaving bad reviews, but sometimes it's the only way to get feedback across. I hope artists will continue to shop at Blick (over online retailers) and support brick and mortar. But I had a horrible experience with management here and had to engage in a unnecessary argument over a product. I bought 5 cans of spray paint for a project. The employee was very helpful and patient in finding the exact colors for me. Unfortunately, he was misinformed (probably by the manager), that the cans I were buying were semi-gloss and not matte. I needed matte for this specific project. I used one of the cans when I got back to the studio and immediately saw that it was glossy and had a shine to it. I looked up the can (Montana gold) on Blick's Website and it said "semigloss". Not an issue, blick is a 10min walk from me, so the next day I head back exchange these for the matte cans. When I go to exchange, the manager basically yells at me, saying the Montana gold cans are matte and that "real, professional artists" have said they're matte. He said he's tired of arguing with people like me, and that "real artists" have already said it's a matte finish. He then goes to the back and pulls out a sample he had sprayed and shows it to me.. it is clearly semi gloss, which I point out. He then tells me it was sprayed on shiny paper.. I'm really disappointed with how he escalated a simple exchange. It's frustrating because i want to support Blick (anything besides Amazon), but what makes it worth supporting is the customer service and the people/artists Blick provides jobs to. Please work on your customer service blick manager and leave your poor attitude at home. read more

The store is great, people on the floor are knowledgeable, but why have someone at the counter who gives a dirty look and spits with contempt, did I find everything I was looking for ... in such a way that you wouldn't want to ask anything; why not have persons who are happy working with people. Beautiful new, open layout store. Staff is friendly and helpful. Lots of cool items up by the register. My only complaint is that I came here for cross-stitching items. They have all of the thread I needed, but really lacked in other items that are used for cross-stitching. I know it's an old-school art, but help out an old Gen X-er on more supplies like stitching fabric (you only carried a few Aida 14 count), wax for thread, cross-stitch kits. read more

This was my second time at this store. Attended the grand opening a few weeks ago with a sketching group. It was a nice experience. Staff was pleasant and very helpful. After Pearl Paint closed long ago, it was great to have a big art supply store back in the area. This shopping experience was totally different. The manager I had to deal with regarding a return/ exchange (with receipt) was rude and brusque. The bathrooms were closed to patrons. It seems that the weekday staff consists of some snarky, attitude laden hipsters who are taking the Soho store address far too seriously. The other locations are friendlier, more helpful and better stocked. Completely turned off by this particular store, staff and approach to customer service . There is too much competition out there both online and in person for this store to have crappy customer service. read more
