This is a 2 floor location. Downstairs has all items like brushes, paints, frames, and more. Upstairs is more like little gifts, journals, planners, puzzle type things. They seem to have a well stocked and organized store. I have not been in a Blick's in forever. I could spend hours in it looking at all the art supplies and such. Every time I go in this store, I get a really unpleasant vibe. They treated like a potential criminal. And they act like they're doing you some sort of painful favor by actually helping you find what you're looking for. I tried three different associates before I got somebody who didn't treat me like i had a disease. And they push their cut rate brand instead of quality products. read more

Let me preface by saying this is my only art store that i've been to in NYC (650 6th Ave) and it beats the ones in Toronto, Canada. It had EVERYTHING I needed without running to several different stores. It had all kinds of brands, all different kinds of paper pads...EVERYTHING. The only Blick store I've ever visited in NYC. I went in hoping to find ceramics supplies, like underglazes, trimming tools, wires, etc. The selection here is quite small if you want to work with clay. :( I prefer Blick over Michael's any day, but I just wish there were options for clay artists. read more

I like art stores no matter what, it is always like Christmas morning for me. So 3 stars for just being an art supply store. Still, as large as the store is, it felt like it had very little inventory and mostly student grade stuff. Ot was full of students shopping for supplies, but if I compare, DaVinci art store also in Manhattan, had student and professional and unusual papers, pens, etc. Dickblick.com has this offering and in a flagship store, I'd expect to have the same experience. read more

I came here today for a specific purpose...to try and find a nice writing pen for a friend who has recently begun keeping a journal. I am familiar with the Lamy fountain pens, but replacing the ink cartridge (and then getting the ink to flow again) can be a bit tricky/finicky. I did not want to get such a pen for my friend, as I was pretty sure she'd want something less complicated. So I came to Blick, asked a rep there for help and.... it seems Lamy are the only refillable fountain pens they offer. The rep showed me that they had different types of Lamy pens, with what appeared to be different types of new ink cartridges, but then...the rep couldn't exactly tell me how they worked. Obviously, I didn't want to risk choosing one of the other Lamy models, and then when it came time to replace the ink, my friend couldn't figure it out. So, since the rep seemed to have no first-hand knowledge of the different Lamy models, I left empty-handed. It's unfortunate that so many stores know just have 'reps', but who know nothing about the products they sell in the particular store. The store DID seem to have a decent selection of things, but I get the sense you are pretty much on your own...that you have to know exactly what you are looking for. read more

Just go to a different blick. If you're not an art student or art professional, this store isn't for you. I usually go to the Blick in soho (by NYU) and the employees are lovely all around. I hoped the same would be true here but not quite! I've never worked with clay but wanted to make a special gift for a friend's birthday. I did some basic research, such as what kind of clay would work for me, but figured I'd ask some questions instore considering it is ... an art supply store.. and I think it's fair to assume the employees have some art knowledge. The first woman I spoke to wasn't terribly rude but simply unhelpful. She also looked like a manager so I was expecting decent product knowledge. When I asked her what kind of paint she would recommend, she looked unamused and said I should do more research. What the hell...?? Am I wrong to think an art store employee should be able to help me with that? I gave up on her and asked someone else.. a younger male employee. He looked at me like I was stupid and flatly said "just ... acrylic.. would be fine." Literally one sentence. Thanks man! Two bad employees in a row.. three strikes and you're out! As I stood in the aisle, a different employee approached me and I tried again- he was very nice and pulled aside another employee, saying he has experience with clay work. This employee was so knowledgeable and patient, even with my minimal knowledge. I think his name was Jason but I'm not too sure! I got the stuff I needed but as nice as the last employee was, I wish I didn't have to buy it here. Unfortunately, my blick didn't have the clay in stock so I chose tough it out. Whatever. This blick is tiny and employees are inconsistent. That one employee saved the review from 1 star. I love coming to this store it's amazing the staff is amazing the customer service is amazing and the lady with the red hair and glasses she's super helpful and very nice and kind. But if you're doing custom sneakers Angelus is not the way because it makes your sneakers look bumpy is not smooth textures like the 94 spray paint that works the best. Poor management. The customer service here needs work. I bought an item from the clearance section & the cashier failed to apply the discount. I realized it upon returning home. I called the store & asked for a refund for the price difference. The manager showed no empathy for my situation & made excuses. She didn't apologize once and kept saying "mistakes happen" which was just inconsiderate. She said that I had to go back to the store for the discount & that she couldn't refund the difference over the phone even if I gave her the receipt info. What bothered me most was her rude attitude & that she didn't even say sorry. The staff aren't accountable and don't care about owning up to their mistakes & will waste your time. A new art supply retailer on the block in Manhattan's Flatiron where this Illinois art supply chain comes to New York. As of April 2013 Blick Art Materials acquires Utrecht Art Supplies as to carry the Utrecht brand name in their stores throughout the country. My dire situation at work was a cascade of setbacks in my gruesome search for string (not thread, not yard) but measly string. Blick Art Materials do not carry what I seek as the associate tried because it was his chore but unable to score success that he hightail it out of helping a customer. It was like hitting a brick. Treated like a thief because I was doing that thing called shopping. You know, browsing, reading labels, etc. Sales people here have gotten used to an empty store during the pandemic and apparently prefer it that way. I so wish that Blick had not been allowed to monopolize the art supply business in New York. I am determined to find some other supplier. This place felt like an armed camp. The interaction with the sales people at blick 6th ave, was the worst experience ever. I asked a sales person for canvas cut to size. For some reason she wouldn't make eye contact but asked me if I wanted the canvas that was "over here or over there"? I didn't really know what that meant so I told her I was looking for 12 cotton duck, again, cut to a specific size. She replied with a snotty answer, rolled her eyes and off we went, to the canvas,"over there". When I told her the size she said it can only be cut by the full yard. Okay, fair enough. My measurements were in feet so I asked to convert it and to round up but she kept saying no it had to be something else, which didn't make sense to me, then followed by another eye roll, she got the manager. Again I said I just need canvas in X size and I will size up no problem. Again, it seemed like a big to do, and then the manager made a comment about me, in front of me, to the sales person and they both had a good laugh. I said, if your going to say things about me I'll go somewhere else and instead of trying to smooth things out the manager said, "then go somewhere else". So,I did, and the experience I had at the other art supply store was night and day. I was met by sales people with smiles, "hi!", and "welcome!". When I told them I wanted canvas and told them the size, they said, no problem, and they even gave me a little extra, gratis, to be safe. They were friendly, funny and knowledgeable. I also had a list of other materials I needed to purchase and so, I purchased everything there. All in all a great experience for me and a good day for them. I am only going to do business with SOHOAM on Wooster from now on and will never set foot (or bother with the website) in blick again. read more

Since there is no other real art supply store nearby, it does have some basics that is standard wherever for in a pinch where there's not time for mail-order from or traveling to a real professional supply. read more

Sadly disappointed by the lack of professionalism I came across. Needed an image framed and matting cut with a quick turnaround. After finally getting the image back, fingerprints were all over the glass, dust was inside the frame, and the image was mounted improperly - cutting off a portion of the top of the image. If you're looking for professional handling and care for your artwork, don't trust these guys. Unfortunate. read more

The rudest experience I have seen in retail in decades. First I was addressed as if I did not belong in the store. I am a mature black man, wearing a mask and a repeat customer. I was in the framing area. The woman behind the counter was working with 2 customers. I saw eventually that she was trying to control distancing. No problem. I made it clear I was there to order custom mats probably a $100 minimum order. She kept trying to direct me to the pre-cut mats downstairs. I made it clear I needed custom mats. She said I needed an appointment. Ok Id like to make one. Youll need to come back in 40 mins so I can make an appt for you hopefully sometime today. Perhaps she is unaware that I value my time. I left the store. I doubt I would ever return. I will have to find another art supply store for my decorating needs. read more

I have spent a great deal of money here because it is convenient for me. I probably spend $300-400 a month and was very excited when it opened. The honeymoon is over. Today I went in having forgotten a 20% off coupon in my office which is 20 minute walk away. My mistake, to be sure. However, when I asked for them to apply it anyway and explained my situation the person at the register without cracking a smile said they could not. When I asked to speak to a manager she told me she was downstairs. No calling the manager, I was supposed to search for her on my own. Then when I pressed she talked to manager via her headset but didn't get her and said that she said she wouldn't give me the discount. Really?! After the JC Penney pricing fiasco we all know that retail is marked up hugely and instead of treating an extremely loyal customer well they expected me to walk 40 minutes back to my office for the same result. There are some floor people here who are genuinely helpful and seem to like helping. However, the cashiers seem stressed out and rather unfriendly. I've rarely gotten a smile. I am going to get my art supplies from online as much as I can now. $400 a month is a lot of money to spend on a place that really doesn't have a great customer experience. read more

Today I went here to ask if they had "Thank You" cards. I've been needing to write a lot of thank yous lately and had been up and down Sixth trying to find some more. The sales person I asked when I walked into Blick said they didn't have any. "Try Staples," she said. I already had. I eventually settled on a sort of artsy box of cards that weren't all appropriate as "Thank Yous" and were more than I wanted to spend, but was tired of the search. As I paid, the person to my right was getting a 25 percent discount which applied to all nonsale items, the cashier said. I asked my cashier and she said it was only if you had a coupon. I pointed to the piece of paper next to her register that said "Use this code to ring up people with the 25 % off sale price if they don't have coupon." She said she couldn't use it. Oookay. As I was leaving, near the door, I saw a stack of different kinds of "Thank You" notes. All much cheaper than what I had gotten. So I picked one and went to go return the weird artsy ones. Waited on line. Then waited for manager, Israel,to come to process the return. I told him I had specifically asked about "Thank You" notes and had been told they didn't carry them. "Well maybe they just arrived," he said. There was quite the stack. Seemed implausible. "Well some of our employees are new," he said. Okay, but is that my problem? Look, I said, I just wasted time scouring your store for something to use in lieu of the thing I wanted, which you had, but I was told you didn't, but then found myself. Then I gave even more time to wait on line to return, then to wait for you. Not a huge deal, but it'd be nice if you might at least give me the discount you're offering to others who don't have the coupon, considering. "We aren't allowed to do that," he said. Then why the instructions about doing that pasted in plain view by the register? "The manager told us we can't use it." This store has a nice selection of art supplies and gifts. And I would probably go back... But I left being made to feel wrong, with lots of excuses made for the employees and no accommodations made by a rightfully frustrated customer. read more

My overall experience with this Blick location is that some employees are more knowledgable and helpful than others. Sandra was very pleasant and helpful even though I can tend to me one of the needier customers like some reviewers I've read here. They greet me pleasantly each time I walk in. They have been accommodating on many occasions when it would have been easy not to. I can't help but point out that if I have forgotten my discount coupon I politely ask for it to be honored but completely understand if that request is declined. If they honored every person who "forgot their coupon at home/work/mailbox/et cetera" they might as well mark down the prices altogether. If I don't have my coupon, which is necessary to discount the transaction, that is my fault. I have asked in the past if I return with the receipt and coupon within the next 24-48 hours may I receive that credit. The results vary. Some people's level of entitlement is awe inspiring. read more

I've never particularly had problems at the Bond St. Blick, but this one... I wasn't able to find the (very specific and not obvious, like pencils or paint) things that I needed, and it took me a good 20 minutes to flag a staff member down, ask where the item was, pick the item, then go try to flag down another staff member to find another item, etc. etc. etc. They were really friendly, but I think understaffed. I bought five things on this trip, and the shelves were so disorganized (and prices are only listed on labels on the shelves, not on the items themselves) that four of the things I bought were more expensive than I thought simply because they were put on the wrong shelf. And--trust me--I was really scrutinizing those labels to try to find the right prices. Basically, I think they're good if you've got time constraints but I'd rather go to other art supply stores. read more

The first, stepped into the store... I was expected to see "the big security guy" but he wasn't there.. cuz I reed the many reviews said. I met the very very nice staff lady instead! (I really relieved.. Oh, I saw the security guy in down stairs! hmm.. and I'm not sure that was him, many ppl are talking about..) It was my first time visit of this location and half a hour to store close time but she asked me what I'm looking for and told me where it should be. I use to buy those at SOHO location but I felt why not to try to go other location more convenience to me since this location opened. I didn't go back to SOHO location yet so I don't know they are still carrying the items I was looking for but I was a bit disappointed cuz the selections are not many than other locations. The store itself are bit smaller thought. I can recommend this store, if you need to pick-up some basic items (or you are in hurry! cuz the location is great.) but if you are searching something new or more section, I would say try other location first. read more

I love Blick Art! The prices here are relatively great for an arts and crafts store in New York. I'm not an artist but I do like to delve in arts & crafts and they have everything I want and more. I love walking around the store and seeing what I can create out of all the medium and tools they have. The staff is super friendly and helpful. One of the staff led me around the store to get what I wanted and answered all my questions. The cashier told me about going to FIT to get fabric if I needed. I've been to this Blick & the one in SoHo. This one I don't believe is as big (I may be wrong) but it's pretty new and nowhere near as crowded (maybe I went off on an off time). Blick Art Materials is my favorite chain art supply stores since I was in art school. This store of the location is my favorite go to chain art supply store in New York City. First, their business hour is longer than other Blick store in Manhattan or NYC. This is only place i can possibly stop by after work that is still open in week day. Second, overall their staffs usual are able to answer my questions with confidence. Third, they have good discounts for in store items frequently if you are the store member and subscribe their news letter. And because ether chain store they can search and get supply that you need from other store as long as you can wait. Basically I only buy supply with coupon or when they do the sale, and never do the online shopping because they have good amount of defective supplies and also it is always better to select and check each item on my own. I do not like rely on only chain store but it is good to have one that I know what they have covered wide selections of supplies and the that their business hour is constant. read more
