I purchased 12 Hunter Douglas shades from Blinds & Designs after meeting with Robert at my home. The shades were all Silhouettes, with some having a blackout shade behind the main shade. They arrived in the timeframe that Robert promised and the installer showed up exactly when they said he would. The installation went smoothly, although I did have a few hiccups with the Power View app on my iPhone. By the next day, I had resolved these on my own. I ordered 3 large blinds from this company - about $3K (not a small sum to me). I was very excited to get these! Almost EVERYTHING went wrong: -blinds were supposed to arrive in 3 weeks - didn't get them for 5 months (the week after the party I had ordered them for) -when they did arrive: -they were not the blinds I ordered, but close enough and I waited too long for them (they did end up giving me a discount for this, but I had to chase them down and complain loudly) -they could only install 2 of them because the 3rd was missing hardware, so again I had to wait 2 more weeks for an installation -there is a 2 inch gap in one of the blinds (the installer said this happens to him all the time - the measurers don't account for quirks for each manufacturere) Throughout the process, the communication was horrible. I'd leave messages asking for status, etc. and receive no calls back. It would take 3 calls to get someone to talk to me about my order. I'd get attitude for asking for a Saturday appointment (I don't work in SF, so can't do this one weekdays) I will say - the person who came by with the blind samples helped me a lot, and also the installers were great - efficient and knowledgeable. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. When doing an installaton in an apartment, Blinds & Design's installer damaged the building elevator. The installer did not admit it, but the building's security cameras caught him in the act. On the phone Blinds & Designs admitted they were at fault and agreed to pay for the repairs. Now that I am being billed by the building, Blinds & Designs has refused to return calls, and is silent. I would not use this company under any circumstances. read more

I had blinds installed by another hunterdouglas dealer. I had problems with the installation. The other dealer never fixed them, despite having her install person come out several times. I finally got hunterdouglas to agree to pay Blinds&Designs to come to my house and assess and fix the blinds. Phone calls to Blinds&Designs were answered by courteous, knowledgeable and professional sales people. David, the owner, came out to assess the issues. The installer came out to fix the issues. Just had 2 large windows covered with custom ordered solar shades and had a very positive experience with Blinds Designs. I walked into the store by chance, and had the most informative chat out of 4 other window covering stores. Rob helped me finalize and make decisions that the 4 other reps failed to do. He understands spaces, their design, and the products he sells to best fit your look. I have heard nightmare stories about installation, but Colby was the most conscientious, efficient, and clean installer! He was very respectful of my condo, which I really appreciated. Once the solar shades were ordered, communication was slow, but I wasn't in a particular rush. After reading the other reviews, I suggest contacting the operations manager, Susan, and she will be sure to expedite things. My shades look great! I would recommend them again. read more

I visited the store to get a quote a month ago. I gave them the measurements and showed them the blinds I wanted and I was quoted about $1150. I scheduled an appointment to have them do measurements at my condo. It was cancelled the morning of the appointment and they were very matter of fact and unapologetic. For the second appointment, I had a feeling they would bail again. I tried calling them and couldn't get through to anyone. Finally about 5 minutes after my appointment was supposed to have started, they call me to say the designer could not make it. We had to reschedule an appointment again and I had to reschedule my commitments once again. Then I received an email with a quote of $2400. How can the same blinds with the same measurements increase to more than double the original amount I was quoted?? So frustrating.. what a waste of time. read more

We had a horrible experience with Blinds an d Designs on Division. First the consultant , Carl, didn't listen to our budget at all and showed us drapes etc way out of our budget, even though we told him our limit. We had to fight for what we wanted. After we ordered and the stuff was delivered 6 weeks later, the size and color of the drapes were totally wrong. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! The sales guy who comes to your house is a total creep. He comments on items you have in your home and says very inappropriate things. He made me feel very uncomfortable. I believe his name was David. He brought samples of blinds and when I asked him how much they cost he kept saying he didn't know. WHAT?? What salesperson comes to your house to sell you something and doesn't know how much his products cost? What a waste of my time. He then said he'd email me 3 days later with a price list and never did. He even accused me of getting mad at him when I said I didn't want to spend $300 to cover one small window. Great customer service from Blinds & Designs for two of our large skylights with Hunter Douglas honeycomb shades they installed 7 years ago. One of the shades split one month out of warranty, and they replaced both shades at no cost to us, as the frame had changed and they wanted them to match - all done within a few weeks of our call to them. They have been great responding to minor repair calls over the years for both the honeycomb shades and the beautiful wooden shades they installed in our master bedroom. I recently had bottom up shades installed in my home. When the installer opened all the packages he discovered one part, a lift tab, was missing. I went to the store to ask for the missing part. The end product is good but it took 6 months for them to order and install one 7'-9" high x 5'-0 wide Roman shade in our bedroom. First Hunter Douglas discontinued the fabric that we had selected on Rob Farella's initial visit on April 16. O.K, that happens. But then he went on a 3 week vacation and did not delegate anyone to show me new samples. Then I selected the sample I wanted. In writing up the order, he specified a top/down bottom up shade that we had not discussed and that I did not want. He corrected the purchase order and I signed it and paid half down on June 7. Then I waited. On August 23 I asked when the shade would be installed. He said someone would call within 2 days. No one called. A week later someone emailed me to set up an installation date. The shade was installed on September 12. The installer was nice but I had to correct his placement of the initial header hardware so that the shade would clear the french door handles. This is a business in my neighborhood and so I hesitate to write a bad review but this level of service is really unacceptable. read more

I went to Blinds & Designs because I thought an established looking place would be able to install plantation shutters on time for my apartment. The salesman arrived at my place and was very pleasant. He had to measure everything carefully in case the window frames were uneven. I appreciated that. He recommended the much higher priced made in USA version over the Chinese. I was told the made in USA version was made of a better quality wood and it had a 3 week shorter lead time so they would be installed a month before my move in. Blinds & Designs made that part painless and easy. But weeks passed and no word on the shutters. I was down to within a month of having to move in. I contacted the company and got no response. I contacted the salesman who told me Blinds & Designs was at the mercy of the East Coast manufacturer. Deadline came and went. I could not move in without the shutters installed. The building regulations do not allow temporary looking window coverings. So I had to extend the stay in my old place. Another month passed. I threatened to have my attorney sue Blinds & Designs and the sales person for the extra cost of having to occupy two places. Finally I got a response with an estimated installation date. The installation was professional (except about forgetting to remove the containers) and the shutters have been excellent. But there was no explanation for the delay or attempt at compensation. read more

I strongly suggest that if you have another option you take it. I worked with B&D for over a year now. If you don't mind missed appointments, cancellations, no return of phone calls, receiving rebate vouchers when it's too late, 100" valences sitting in your living room while you wait for the right brackets, no updates, no return phone calls again even when they promise to call by the end of the day; then you may like them. Just be sure not to allow them to charge your credit card until AFTER installation; not to schedule the "appointment". After a year, the job continues. The people are nice but unresponsive professionally. So best of luck. I hope you have a better experience. read more

I have been using Blinds and Designs for clients for over 20 years. In that time I have never had anything but exemplary service from the showroom to the appointment scheduler to the frequent updates on shipping and installation. I have never heard anything but wonderful things about the installation process in my clients homes as well as the beauty and long wear of the window treatments that we have selected. I have only ordered custom so cannot speak to pricing of ready made shades versus big box retailers but cannot imagine that the countless professional experiences I have had over the years would be any different for mass marketed products. The customer service of David and his team have never disappointed me in either product or delivery schedule -- almost unheard of in my business! read more

All I can says is: Make sure you include every detail (colors, models, quantity, fascias, brackets, anything you can think of) in the written quote. They leave their quote as braod and as vague as possible so they can tack on add-ons on the tail end. If you don't listen to what I just said, you will get the royal" Oh that's extra" or "The quote did not include this part", or "there's an additional cost for that". So let the buyer beware. On the plus side, I have to say that when it comes to them conducting a site visit, taking measurements, giving you a quote, they are pretty efficient, but beyond that (pricing and all inclusive quote), I will let you be the judge. By the way, I am being generous with my 1-star rating only because it is Sunday. read more

Unfortunately they don't sell parts for broken blinds, however the person working went above and beyond helping me locate the missing part even though it wasn't going to benefit them. We've worked with Blinds and Designs for several months as we designed with them Roman shades for 15 windows. Knowing we wanted something unique, their sales rep found some unusual websites for design ideas. Eventually, we purchased the fabric ourselves, which was similar to one they had suggested, but only after extensive consultation with B and D. The fabric's repeat required very specific attention to where the cuts were made. Blinds and Designs patiently worked with us so that their workroom filled the order exactly as we wanted it done. B and D's owner came out multiple times to check measurements and make sure the plan would work. Their bid was expensive, but for custom shades it compared ok with the bid of a cheaper vendor of non-custom shades. Their attention to detail was highly professional and follow through on requests was quick. The result of all this planning and service is a product that enhances our home and is original. I ordered over $5,000 of Mecho shades for our new master bedroom addition in October 2016. As of April 2017, the job is still not completed. There have been numerous problems, starting with incorrect measurements by designer/salesman Rob Farella; then incomplete shipments from the manufacturer that were never checked by Blinds & Designs so we have only a partial installation...and this process has been repeated several times. Almost 6 months later we have a half done job with incorrectly cut shades, a missing valance, and one window with no covering at all. It looks terrible. Communication has been really poor, they never call and update me when they say they will. Sometimes I get an email. When I can get someone on the phone, it is always the manufacturer's fault (some of the stories are crazy, hard to know what's really happening) and they are going to escalate the problem and get it solved. However, I'm still waiting after all these months. What a frustrating, expensive disaster it has been dealing with Blinds&Designs. Beware. read more
