Ok, so I'm a guy and I guess this place typically doesn't do guy's hair, but I got my hair cut by Ben Rush and it was by far, hands down, without a doubt the BEST haircut I have ever gotten in my life!!! And believe me, I have been up and down the block and tried out many different hair dressers and upscale barber shops (i.e., Bellarmine Salon, Umbrella, W Salon) and have even gone to the ethnic lady who doesn't speak English over in the East Side (but somehow manages to charge $50 a cut) and what not, but Ben at Bliss takes the cake for the best job done. I gave him full freedom to do whatever he wanted w/my hair, even after he told me he's never really done men's hair...and i was more than impressed. The following week at the office everybody was giving me compliments on my new haircut...It was great! read more

WooHoo! LAURA is as good as it gets! I will follow LAURA anywhere :) She is awesome. I always leave super blond and super happy. The rest of the staff is awesome too! I get pedicures with ISABEL every once in while and she knows how to make your feet feel brand new! You can tell she LOVES her some feet. She is sweet, funny, and most importantly, excellent at what she does. So I've been going to a favorite stylist in San Jose for 13 years and after having a baby 4 months ago, I was in a dire need of a cut and color. Not having the time to make it over the hill I found Bliss on Yelp as a high rated salon and booked a appt with Laura. I'm very hesitant on who touches my hair especially after 13 years of going to the same stylist but Laura did a FANTASTIC job, great color, cut, and she was very gentle and took her time to make sure it was done well. My mom any I went for haircuts here based on the reviews on yelp and we were not disappointed. Ben has magic hands and is a true artist. And the two hours we spent in the salon flew by because Ben is a hoot to talk with. My mom has short thick hair and I have thin long hair and we both walked out with spectacular styles. Woo hoo! I just moved to the area and was desperate to find a new hair stylist. I looked on Yelp to find who had the best ratings - and ended up with an appointment at Bliss. When I called they were able to book me the same day. When I walked in the door I was greeted by three very friendly staff members. I was offered refreshments and magazines. Because of the reviews here I went to Bliss and was let down. I am in need of a salon to do hair and makeup for my entire wedding party. I stopped into Bliss and was greeted with a not so warm or friendly man who was working on someones hair. He told me that if I left my name and number on the desk, because he does not have an assistant, he would get back to me. That was 3 days ago. I did not feel welcome or as if he even cared or needed my business. Another styleist in the shop did not smile or make me feel welcome either. Mia at Bliss is making my hair beautiful. I have been to so many salons in the Santa Cruz area (over a period of 10 years) and have found zero that could work with my hair. The final straw was a salon that burned my scalp and left me with white frizzy hair. In desperation, I found Bliss on Yelp and saw how highly it was rated. Over a period of three months, Mia has turned me from a disheveled desperate looking woman to a dignified looking person with shiny tresses. Only about two more inches of frizz left to go. I planned my wedding from afar and went with Bliss solely based on the fabulous reviews it received on Yelp. A day before the wedding, Laura spent an hour with me, carefully creating the hairstyle I had envisioned for my big day and running me through the options. As she did so, my best friend watched from a chair while someone else at the salon cheerfully brought us tea and water. The next day Laura worked her wonders and created the hairstyle I had envisioned - it was beautiful and it stayed up for hours - even after some crazy dancing! She endured a minor bridezilla freakout mid-way through and changed the hairstyle to fit my needs and make me comfortable - all without complaint. Meanwhile, the salon took great care of my anxious mother (again, complementary tea) and best friend, who stopped by to snap photos. Overall, a tremendously professional, thorough, courteous job. And the salon itself is beautiful - housed in a charming little building, it is open, cheerful (think lots of colorful original paintings), and calming. LOVE this place!!!!!! I had made an appointment with Bliss's esthetician, Stacy Sharpe, for a facial. Every winter I always get extremely dry skin and I break out as well. The moment I met her I knew I was in good hands!!! She was so sweet and explained step by step what she was going to do and how it was going to help. The products she uses (EMINENCE) are truly the best product I have ever used on my skin and they are organic which is awesome and they are available at the salon! My skin is looking the best it has since my preteen years. I also have to give a shout out to Isabel Bettar, the nail specialist , she does such a good job and I would highly recommend a Mannie/ Peddie with her over any blow and go nail place any day!!! I had a good massage with Yolanda.. my only complaint is that I went to Bliss seeing that they specialize in prenatal massages, called to schedule a prenatal massage, confirmed when they called the day before that I would be getting a prenatal massage, but when I got there, Yolanda said she had done a couple before and she would do the best she could.. I told her initially that it was my back that was bothering me the most, but in the 90 minute massage, she spent maybe 20 minutes on my back, I think she was worried about touching my back since she wasn't very experienced in prenatal? When she had me lay on my side to do my back (since I can't lay on my stomach), it took her a while to situate me, and it seemed like she didn't really know what she was doing and where she was positioning me. She even mentioned a couple times how there are other places that specialize in prenatal massages and I should check them out. I'm disappointed that Bliss is claiming that they specialize in prenatal massages when they clearly don't, they should remove it from what they offer and not schedule them. I think Yolanda does a good massage, but don't go to Bliss for prenatal massages! read more

I have been going to Seanna for the past two years and I gotta tell you she is the best! I am very picky with my hair and I really know what I want. Well, Seanna not only listens but cuts and colors my hair perfectly. Her cuts are so precise and the color is so vibrant that months after I see her my hair still looks awesome. I had gone into Bliss on a referral from a friend to schedule a highlight and cut with Mia. When I tried to make the appointment, the receptionist ( can't remember her name ) was stand offish on scheduling me with Mia, then Ben ( the owner ) chimed in and told me that Mia didn't do a good job and I should not go to her, I should go to Laura. I wanted to go to Mia because that is who my friend suggested, the receptionist told me I could not schedule with Mia, it was going to have to be Laura. I told her forget it, they just lost a new client and I will tell all my friends not to use this salon! read more

I tried Bliss because Iwas looking for a nice place to accomodate my wedding party for hair and make up, b/c one of the girls had an issue with my salon. I needed my hair colored desperately, so even though I was happy with my usual place I decided to try out Bliss since they had such good reviews about coloring. My hair was dull brown at the roots and I dye it blond once or twice a year (sometimes I go red/brown) When going blond I usually have the colorist blend in a small amount of my natural color and another slightly darker color blond at the roots so that when I go long periods between seeing a stylist it doesn't look crappy when it grows out. At this point I had let it go and needed some major work to lighten it up for my wedding the following month. I showed the colorist Loara a picture of my daughter who has light blond hair which in the sunlight looks red, or strawberry blond. The colorist latched on to this " strawberry blond" and told me she'd blend in a red with the blond so it would look natural. I knew when she was 1/3 of the way into it that I wasn't going to be happy with it because she was leaving way too much of my dull brown color. When I politely said to her I thought she was leaving too much of my natural color, and not doing enough blond (or normal amount of blond) she replied condescendingly "hadn't I ever had highlights before" (I've dyed my hair since I was 13 and I'm 35). and that I should "trust her". So I sat there for about 2 1/2 hours watching as she divided the proper amount to highlight in half, over and over agin, and when she was done she put a nice toner on it that made it look shiny and have a reddish tint. I have to admit that it was nice and natural looking, but unfortunately it wasn't the color I had wanted, or was going to keep for my wedding. She asked me how I liked it and I hesitantly told her that it was pretty, but it was much darker than I had wanted. I left, saying I'd be in touch about the wedding makeup and hair, and went home to see what my friends and family thought. Over and over again to my friends, and coworkers I told them how much I didn't like it...people at work who I see every day, didn't notice I had anything done to my hair at all (they usually notice everything), and while there were light areas, there was way too much of my dull brown underneath....and I was gonna have an updo? So everyone told me that if I was unhappy, then Bliss should fix it for me, including my other salon. Usually if I am unhappy with a place I just don't go back, even though all salons I've been to have told me if I'm unhappy or something's wrong with my hair to come back and they'll fix it free. I guess they value their customers. So I called Loara and explained that even though I thought she did a nice job on the color I had wanted my hair lighter, that there was too much of the original brown and could I come back and have her fix it? She hesitated, saying "but she'd have to add bleach", when I said I just need more highlights where she didn't put them, she said she'd check her schedule and call me back. I was then called back by Ben the owner, who told me he had been there when she was explaining what she was going to do and that I knew it, and it wasn't until the end that I said it was too dark. he then went on to say again that omg they'd have to add bleach, and what's more said obviously I wasn't a "good fit" with the salon and that we should keep in touch after a few weeks...wow. was I that bad...they could of made a ton of money off my wedding! I could tell I was getting the don't call us we won't call you brush off. So I called back my old salon instead and made an appt for a trial run for wedding hair with Gabriella at STRANDED and had her evaluate my color and then had her fix it. Of course I was worried that when she did my hair that it would come out too light, and of course it did, but when I wasn't 100% happy, still sitting in the chair, she added a darker TONER and it ended up looking wonderful...Amazing. that's when I realized that those people at Bliss may have been able to fix this all with a lighter toner? but were just unwilling to try. Thanks for the always awesome customer service STRANDED. Bliss needs some work in this area...don't they realize that if you have a good experience you tell a couple people, but if you have a bad experience you tell everyone you know!!!! read more

Apparently, Ben is so nervous about bad reviews he has received on Yelp in the past that he left a long, rambling message for my daughter on the phone about why he can not do wedding parties anymore for people who are not existing clients of his salon. He is afraid of getting a bad review. We are an established family in the area, know a lot of people, are known by a lot of people and easy going. No bridezilla here. When we first stopped by the salon, a sweet receptionist on her first day of working there, took all of the necessary information. We were polite and sweet to her and she was sweet to us. Yet it was a week before Ben even got in touch with us. Honestly, it was funny. The message made us laugh. He is afraid of bad Yelp reviews and for the first time in my life, I am compelled to write a Yelp review. Ben, there is a way to ease your fears - before committing to doing hair for a wedding - tell the bride you want to meet her in person first and do a trial hair. Don't leave rambling messages. I am finally leaving a review after having Ben cut my once hopeless thick, wild, wavy, brown hair for over 2 years. He is a hair genius! I am 50 and please go give Ben a try! He is very nice and professional...but best of all, i show him pictures and he has done a fabulous job of making my hair look the best it can.
