Ben took me as a walk in. My curly hair reached my waist when it was wet. I asked for blond highlights and asked him to only trim the really damaged parts and keep it long. He was rude throughout and didn't seem to be listening to me. I ended up with a shoulder length mushroom bob with no layers and highlights so microscopic, they were not visible to the naked eye. In fact, my hair was several shades darker than when I walked in because he cut off all my natural highlights. So basically he did the exact opposite of everything I asked for. I had to cut layers into my own hair. When I called him the next day to let him know there were no visible highlights, he blamed me and my bad, mildly graying hair for the results. He admitted they were not what I asked for, and refused to fix it. It was apparently my fault for not knowing Ben's definition of highlights, a $150 mistake. I ended up learning to highlight my own hair, do I guess I should thank Bliss for that. read more

I am Yelping on my husband's behalf because he is just not a Yelper. He had been complaining about his hair being too long and wanting to cut it shorter for a couple weeks. My stylist (who usually cuts his hair, too) JUST went on maternity leave (mind you- I had told him this would happen and to make an appointment before she did but...he didn't :) I knew odds were slim that I could get him a haircut appt. with Ben at Bliss, but figured I'd call just in case. He was totally booked but rearranged his schedule to fit my husband in since we were coming from so far away. So nice! The haircut was perfect. Looked very professional, but also age-appropriate. My husband can be a pain of a hair client and he was also very happy with the cut. I bought some Eminence (sp?) face wash when I was there (needed to stock up) and Ben told me that they are now shipping Eminence orders for free! I have been very cautious and was nervous about what the experience would be like, since my haircuts are usually a time where I get to step away from being mom and get to feel pampered and come out feeling confident with my hair. Another win for Ben! I made an appt with him because of all the wonderful reviews on Yelp. He is so friendly and easy to get along with, I immediately felt so comfortable with whatever he wanted to do with my hair. The ambiance in the salon is really relaxing, i waited in this nice chair with a trickling fountain next to me. Ben did everything from wash my hair to cut to blow dry and style. I felt really special since its a one person hair cut room. It's nice to have complete attention from your stylist. I am so happy with my hair cut; my hair looks and feels much healthier and is styled just the way i want. My one complaint, which is not a huge deal, is that I called a couple of times during business hours to make an appointment and no one answered. I was in town (Seascape) for a wedding and I really needed a haircut. My friend who is local to the area referred me to Ben at Bliss Salon. She said that he would be her first choice, but she didn't think I could get in on such short notice because he's usually booked solid. I called and was SO happy when the receptionist told me Ben had a cancellation that afternoon. I was just planning to get a bit more than a trim, but he ended up totally re-designing my haircut. He only took off about an inch and a half, but the results were amazing! As a bonus he was so nice and friendly and really, really funny. When I showed up at the wedding the next day I got so many compliments- especially from people I hadn't seen in a while. People even said I looked like I lost weight! I know I haven't (probably have gained a pound or two) so I'm sure it was because of my haircut. I have never been so happy with a haircut- and it stayed looking good for months! I went to Bliss Salon for fancy wedding makeup and updos with my bridesmaids. From the moment we got there, the ladies at Bliss were friendly and attentive. We enjoyed a bottle of delicious Veuve Clicquot while we were being transformed into beautiful, glamorous & wedding-ready. The salon uses Bare Minerals makeup which is really lovely. Especially for an outdoor wedding like mine. We all looked polished, enhanced and slightly sparkly. Nothing too heavy or overdone though. It was a perfect look. Not to mention that my makeup lasted well over 10 hours! The updos came out beautifully. Each of us had a slightly different look and the lady who worked with us was creative, friendly and honest. She proposed various styles that she thought would work with each of our hair types and didn't promise something she could not deliver. Like the makeup, the updos lasted over 10 hours. Overall, I was really happy with my experience at Bliss Salon. I would recommend to anyone that needs special hair or makeup. Also if I lived closer I would go there for haircuts and styling as well. read more

Not only is the shop well designed and comfortable to be in (even for me, a guy.. and let me tell you there aren't a lot of hair salons I'm comfortable in) the staff is friendly and all the stylists at this salon are top notch. I love they way he cuts my hair and I'm actually able to recreate his style at home; he is a natural. Also, I got a massage and it was wonderful--heaven. You could really just spend all day here... I have dark blonde thin hair. Over a couple of years my hair had been dyed lighter and lighter until my hair was a crispy straw texture without any shine. I thought my hair would never be the same. I went to see Ben on a friend's recommendation and I have never been happier. Ben thinks about the long term health of your hair and will not let you leave the Salon until you look and feel fabulous. My hair has not been this healthy since before I started highlighting. Ben really knows how to do blonde color without damaging you hair. Plus, the cut could not be better. Heidi is a genius at waxing. She is fast, professional, clean yet puts you at ease no matter what hair needs to be removed. I was disappointed that she left her downtown location but found it easy to hop on the freeway and find her here. Bliss is a relaxed, yet very professional salon. I love the full service salon, but I love Ben more. I have been going to him almost 5 years now.... NEVER had I had a cut and color I loved until him. I have lived in Carmel and now San Francisco, but always made and still make the drive to Aptos every 8 weeks to see him! I have been stopped in the grocery store, bank, and on the street by women's compliments. I have even had a woman drive by me walking down a busy street make a U-turn to ask me "who does your hair??!" I'm not joking or exaggerating... He really is that good. I would never trust anyone else with my golden locks. I have sent many strangers his way. I have also sent 4 of my sisters, mom, and a couple aunts (plus some boyfriends) to see him. It is also definitely worth mentioning that he recommended the best professional products to me. When I moved to SF a year and a half ago my hair reacted very badly to the highly chlorinated water. My hair became very dry and brittle. Having grown my hair out for years I feared I would have to cut it short again. Feeling sexy definitely does not come naturally for me. In fact, being a mom of a two-year-old and teaching 150 middle school students on a daily basis, leaves me very little time for putting energy into making myself look beautiful. Ben is the best colorist I have ever known, and the way he works magic with my naturally curly hair is unbelievable. I would love to go and see Ben every day, but he does such an incredible job with my color and cut, every seven to eight weeks is the most my hair needs him. I recently moved home from school and was looking to find a place to get a quality cut. My mom recommended Andrea brown as she has been getting her hair done by her for a few years. I showed Andrea a photo of what I was looking for and she cut it picture perfect. The whole salon was very friendly and welcoming. They have a great selection of products for skin, hair, etc. I would highly recommend asking for Andrea due to her craftsmanship and experience with the scissors. I was hoping to come to Bliss to have my hair done on the day of my wedding along with my bridesmaids but they were booked with another wedding. Ok, so I'm a guy and I guess this place typically doesn't do guy's hair, but I got my hair cut by Ben Rush and it was by far, hands down, without a doubt the BEST haircut I have ever gotten in my life!!! And believe me, I have been up and down the block and tried out many different hair dressers and upscale barber shops (i.e., Bellarmine Salon, Umbrella, W Salon) and have even gone to the ethnic lady who doesn't speak English over in the East Side (but somehow manages to charge $50 a cut) and what not, but Ben at Bliss takes the cake for the best job done. I gave him full freedom to do whatever he wanted w/my hair, even after he told me he's never really done men's hair...and i was more than impressed.
