I was overcharged (I was charged for what I booked online but it was changed at the appointment, so it was an easy error -- not like someone did something wrong). When Cheron called me at 9:10 I immediately apologized and even offered twice to reschedule if that was easier. Instead she just asked for my ETA in an irritated tone and said she'd see me soon. From the minute I got there the whole appointment felt tense. I asked for a simple trim, some face framing pieces, and something low maintenance since I don't spend a lot of time styling my hair. It didn't feel like a difficult request but I felt like my preferences were an inconvenience. Even the shampoo was so rough it was uncomfortable instead of relaxing. The haircut itself turned out nice but what really shocked me was the finish. I paid $150 and expected at least a basic styling. Instead, my hair was blow dried with her fingers... no round brush, no comb, no straightener, no curls. Nothing. I genuinely couldn't believe that was the finished result. I'm happy I ended up with a decent haircut but the overall experience felt uncomfortable from start to finish and nowhere near the level of service I expected.

I did not get the name of the wonderful young lady who did my makeup. She was very honest about what she could and could not do and did a great job. For makeup, I specially asked for a natural look, stating my face does not do well with much makeup. I explained a horrible past experience and feel my time with Heat was nearly a repeat. The stylist rushed through the application and did not even have my wash my face before beginning. She said she would be applying neutral and nude colors but I ended up with extremely dark eyes and chocolate colored lips. The look was completely opposite of what I asked for. I'm always blown away by how well my color comes out every time. My balayages and highlights always blend so well into my natural hair. Even 3-4 months after I get my hair color my friends and co workers continue to compliment my hair! - She's honest! I absolutely appreciate Maria's honesty. I usually bring a few pictures as references for what I want my hair color or hair cut to be. She's quick to level set my expectations about how my hair will turn out. I have thick, dark hair and Maria always keeps it 100 with me- before she does anything she will explain how light my hair will actually go without frying it, damage to expect, and how a haircut I may want will turn out differently because of my hair texture. I would much rather have someone like Maria working on my hair than any hairstylist that will just do what I want when they know it won't look good. For the women that left reviews about how shocked they were with the prices... how do you not ask about prices before sitting in a hairstylists' chair?? Or even when you call to make an appointment? First, this isn't just a hair cut or a blowout, this feels like a deeply personal experience with someone passionate about her craft, her life, everything. To be in the same room is to be sucked into her obvious joy for everything she does. It's mesmerizing. I went in for a blowout and got great conversation, the best blowout I have literally ever had and a chance to feel some goodness in this mad world. It was amazing. Maria uses THE best products. She is one of the most talented people I have ever had do my hair. She washed, conditioned, cut and blow dried it and it was a masterpiece. If I lived in Atlanta I'd see her twice a week, no lie.
