First, this isn't just a hair cut or a blowout, this feels like a deeply personal experience with someone passionate about her craft, her life, everything. To be in the same room is to be sucked into her obvious joy for everything she does. It's mesmerizing. I went in for a blowout and got great conversation, the best blowout I have literally ever had and a chance to feel some goodness in this mad world. It was amazing. Maria uses THE best products. She is one of the most talented people I have ever had do my hair. She washed, conditioned, cut and blow dried it and it was a masterpiece. If I lived in Atlanta I'd see her twice a week, no lie. Salon Viv knows what they are doing and how to cut hair. You get a great hair cut for a good price without pushy product sales. Viv is extremely professional and pleasant to be with. She is also responsive, dependable, and accommodating. The salon is single person so there are no covid concerns snd she wears a mask a d takes the petite readings. read more

I was really excited to check this place out based on some of the reviews but was sadly disappointed. I'm not sure if this is a Georgia thing, but I don't recall ever having to pay extra for a blow dry following a hair cut. I told the stylist that I was looking for something different then how I was wearing my hair now, that it was getting too long. She insisted that I keep it around the same length, didn't really add any texture or layers or anything to make it look different. After I left, I felt like I just paid $45 for a trim...which is not cool. She was very nice about the appointment and even made me feel ok about not going with the color treatment, which I'm sure was annoying for her since she could have filled that time slot. Hate to write reviews like this because Maria is very nice but I'm a bit shocked at the overall experience. I asked for a partial highlight and cut and what I got was bleached highlights and a quick hit for $170. She didn't even blow dry my hair!! I've never felt so unappreciated as a customer. Well friends, it's been 3 years of going to Salon VIV for all my hair needs and I couldn't be happier! After multiple balayages, highlights, trims, haircuts, and blowouts I think it's only fair I update my Yelp review :) Why I keep coming back: - Truly an artist! I'm always blown away by how well my color comes out every time. My balayages and highlights always blend so well into my natural hair. Even 3-4 months after I get my hair color my friends and co workers continue to compliment my hair! - She's honest! I absolutely appreciate Maria's honesty. I usually bring a few pictures as references for what I want my hair color or hair cut to be. She's quick to level set my expectations about how my hair will turn out. I have thick, dark hair and Maria always keeps it 100 with me- before she does anything she will explain how light my hair will actually go without frying it, damage to expect, and how a haircut I may want will turn out differently because of my hair texture. I would much rather have someone like Maria working on my hair than any hairstylist that will just do what I want when they know it won't look good. For the women that left reviews about how shocked they were with the prices... how do you not ask about prices before sitting in a hairstylists' chair?? Or even when you call to make an appointment? I don't understand. If you knew before hand you wouldn't be shocked. - Haircut/trim: ~$50 - Blowout: ~$25 - Partial Highlights: ~$150 - Balayage: $250+ (Prices are estimates because I have relatively long hair and it may differ for you depending on your hair length/texture). Not surprisingly, she was voted top hair stylist in Sandy Springs for 2016. Maria LISTENS. Trained as a classical artist, she knows color and is precise. She knows cuts and is precise. I also enjoyed the private seclusion of her salon, with a large window, so that Maria works bathed in natural light. She has a wonderfully understated personality. Yes, I definitely made a follow up appointment. Oh, and did I mention she is in the Kroger shopping center near the Post Office, the shoe repair shop, and not far from Brooklyn Cafe? Even with ongoing construction, navigation and parking are easy peasy. read more

My curls finally came back! My hair is extremely dry, frizzy and the curls were lifeless. Maria revived my curls and now they are so bouncy, moisturized and shiny! Her haircut and intense conditioning treatment of Morrocan Argan Oil did the trick! I just left my hair to air dry (luckily it was 60 degrees today) and my hair was rejuvenated! I just recently moved to the Atlanta area and was in the market for a new hair stylist. My hubby and I found Salon Viv / Maria online with great reviews and I made my appointment. I am SO HAPPY that I did!! Maria is absolutely incredible!! My first appointment was for a touch-up of my previous balayage and going a little lighter. Maria listened to what I wanted done, assessed my hair for health and what would look best on it and we discussed what she thought would be the best way to go. I love that she takes into account how to keep your hair healthiest and also what tones will look best with my skin tone, etc. She is a magician with hair and made me look incredible! And even more amazing, as time passed with this balayage and some of the toner faded out, my hair only looked even better! I was getting compliments on my hair every week that I had this color, not just in the beginning. I just had my second appointment with Maria to go darker with my hair for the fall. Again, Maria explained the whole process and the pros and cons of each color group. She doesn't just think about how your hair is going to look when you walk out of her salon but also weeks from your appointment when the color invariably fades. She worked her magic yet again and I have the fall look that I've always dreamed of! If you want to have a stylist that not only knows her craft forwards and backwards but also thinks about what is best for your and your hair as a whole, you have to go to Maria! She had originally placed an ad on the Buckhead Trading group Facebook page, which is pretty balsy cause if your not good at what you do, the people on that site will let EVERYONE know. I originally was interested as she offers a 50% discount to new clients and I'm poor, but I'm going back this weekend and that should speak mountains. (I do tend to be very cheap...) I went and got the baylage (sp?), a cut and toner. It lasted for months, I honestly couldn't believe it. She also takes her time. There is no rushing around, when you are in the chair its just you and her. As a natural brunette striving to be a "natural" blonde my hair has taken some abuse. She uses products that won't fry your hair and I greatly appreciate that. My hair has grown back with 75% less split ends and I 100% account that to her. I have told all my friends about her as well as my family...even though I'm scared she will get to busy and my hair will never forgive me. read more

I had a bit of an emergency today and needed a last minute appointment. Maria had many stellar reviews on Yelp and I decided to take a chance with her. She gave me what is quickly becoming my favorite hair cut ever! Pixie cuts require real finesse to ensure that the wearer doesn't end up looking boyish, and Maria nailed it. While I was there she totally won me over by explaining to me why she was using this or that technique, why she left pieces longer than others, you get the picture. So I got a balayage, and a hair cut from Salon Viv. Maria knows what she is doing with the balayage and she knows how to give you a look that matches your face cut and skin tone. I have shoulder length hair and I do have thick hair so that sometimes is an issue for salons. I loved the overall look. The only reason for the 4 stars is the price. I just moved to Atlanta from Chicago last month and had a hard time finding someone that could fill in the shoes of my stylist back home. Maria accommodated to a last minute appointment on a Sunday morning, I called her at 10:00am and she made herself available for me at 11:15. I had never come back to the same hair stylist until I met talented Maria. She is a gifted hair artist who listens to customers' desires and implements their ideas exceeding their expectations. I always considered my hair thin and hardly manageable, but after Maria's manipulations I finally fell in love with my hair. It eventually got volume, shine, and healthy look. Thus, Maria is my hair fairy. Also, I was recommended to try keratin infusion treatment that transformed my hair drastically. I will repeat this procedure again and again because it is much cheaper than usual Keratin treatment, but delivers amazing results.
