For reference, the regular "Blow Out" is $59 for 45 mins and the "Blow Out with Extended Time" is $74 for 1 hr 15 mins. I got there at 5:15pm. The air is actually hazy from all the hairspray in the air. I have never seen that in a salon before - may be wise to invest in a better air circulation solution? I was told to take a seat but the small couch was full of people waiting. I was taken for my wash at 5:30pm, 15 minutes into my appointment time. The wash was okay, no massage. But the crazy part was that the "Extended Time" 75 min blow dry that started at 5:30pm was over at 6:05pm. It was okay for a regular blow dry (which explains the 2 stars) but there were no waves, no additional anything. I could tell she was in a rush and was hoping to make up time during my appointment. After the rapid blow dry, my stylist pretended by adding 2 curlers to my hair and then I watched as she walked over and chatted with another stylist. They peeked back at me and smirked at each other like they were pulling a fast one before she returned, removed the curlers and said "All done". I have been getting Dominican blowouts my entire life.** I first went because the salon advertises Dominican blowouts. However, the results did not match what I expected from that service. The blowouts here typically only lasted about one day. I continued returning mostly because it was easy to schedule appointments since it's a one-woman business. After some time she began coloring my hair. While the coloring was initially better than the blowouts, the overall quality gradually declined over time. For example, during blowout appointments I was sometimes not placed under the dryer, which is usually a key step in a Dominican blowout. I eventually stopped focusing on the blowouts and mainly came in just for highlights, sometimes even urging her not to put me under the hairdryer because why bother. Despite consistently asking for bright blonde highlights, I noticed a pattern where the color sometimes came out darker than what I requested on some visits (it seemed intentional). I communicated my dissatisfaction and I was met with blame, unawareness and passive aggression instead. She had to fix my hair two days after coloring and highlighting (with more highlights) causing more stress on my hair-strands since it was done sloppy the first time. Another uncomfortable aspect was that personal conversations I had shared in the salon were later referenced in a way that felt inappropriate to me. After that experience, I regretted sharing personal information with her, but it's okay, what comes around comes back around. You get one appointment a month for $10 less than the regular price, and get a discount on additional blowouts too and a few other perks. (There is also a Double Barfly which gives you two $10 discounted blowouts per month). I think I have had a different stylist each time I have been here, but they are all good. They ask questions about what you are wanting and you can select from a menu of styles. Free drinks and movies to watch also. Most of the time my hair looks good for nearly a week afterwards so it's been worth while. Easy to make appointments online (they have an app too, which I haven't tried yet, but intend to). If I could afford that much for a hair cut, it should be going to charity anyhow. So what to do? I looked up Jon David Salon in Irving, and the woman making appointments recommended Albert. Are you SURE? I asked. My hair is a problem. Yes, she replied. Albert is really really good and he loves doing bobs. The price was moderate -- triple SuperCuts, but not as much as fancy schmancy Dallas places (and I don't like the vibe of those places, anyhow). So although I still have to spread out the appointments more than my hair would like, the cut is so good that it doesn't matter. Albert spent a LOT of time on my hair, and he was really precise. He was totally open to my suggestions (sorry! can't help myself!). He was responsive and honest and, most of all, an expert at what he does. Also he's a really good person. The salon itself is beautiful -- tasteful, not tacky. The vibe is really relaxing and upscale, but not chi-chi-pretentious. I would say more "European." The free parking is convenient in the garage right across the road (a big plus!) and they always ask me if I want something to drink, but I haven't yet had anything because I just want to focus on the hair.
