We were really looking forward to trying out Block because we heard it was on par with Communal. Unfortunately, there is no comparison. We found that the main entrees were cooked very unevenly. Half of the snapper fillet we ordered was raw--totally translucent and rubbery. The pork was half over cooked, tough, and dry, and the other half was overly pink. Outside of that, the flavors were decent, but generally underwhelming and portion sizes were meager. Nothing was especially memorable or extraordinary, just ordinary. And DEFINITELY not worth the price. It also seemed odd that a restaurant in this price range doesn't serve bread or rolls before the meal is brought out. The service was above average; The servers were very attentive and friendly. However, I did think it odd that we were charged for the two undercooked entrees that we sent back because they were inedible, as well as the entree we ordered to replace it. They gave us a 50% discount and two free desserts, but it still seemed kitschy that they would charge us at all for two bites that were taken of the raw fish fillet. All in all, a big disappointment as Utah county desperately needs better food options. For now, if you're looking for great food, skip Block and head over to Communal. read more

We went to the Block that just opened in Provo. We were invited for a test run their first night. Honestly I was blown away on how good the food tasted. My taste buds were going crazy. It was more of an experience than a meal. I'm not just saying this, but if you don't make it down to the block restaurant, then you're really really missing out. Congratulations Erika, you knocked it out of the park. 10 out of 10. It was so good that we wanted to go back a week later and try their brunch. Much like their dinner, the brunch didn't disappoint. The food at Block was absolutely delicious! I live just down the street and I've been very anxious to try it out. Here's what was ordered at our table: 1 Charcuterie board, 2 Honey Garlic Chicken Breast, and 1 Block Burger. The charcuterie board was off-the-charts good, however, there definitely wasn't enough bread to accompany the meats and cheeses. The honey garlic chicken breasts were also delicious and I was very surprised at the portion size. My husband ordered the burger which was a great size and the sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly. The meat was tender but, I would say it could have used a little more sauce. Overall, the food was really tasty and the service was also very friendly. My only negative feedback is that when asking the server what was the best, she prefaced almost everything with "it's pretty small but....". No sentence at a restaurant should EVER be started with that sentence. If I am paying for food, give me a good portion! I'm also not a fan of the price. I get that BLOCK serves high-quality food but I can find high-quality food at other places for a lot cheaper. Was in town for the night and found this gem on Yelp. I ordered a few appetizers: marinated olives and artichokes, there was a nice assortment of olives and the artichoke hearts are fantastic. They are marinated in house and done quite well. The beer hummus was also delicious with a nice lemony zest. My favorite part of my meal was the roasted squash. Oh. My. God. It was so incredible I wanted to crawl into it...there is a warm buttery maple spread the squash is laid over and a bit with all the ingredients is heavenly. We went to Block Restaurant on Friday. The hostess was very friendly. We had a party of four. As soon as we were seated, our waitress came for drink orders. They were brought out quickly. The waitress had a good knowledge of the menu, which appears to be local ingredients from family farms and dairies. We each ordered something different. Each of the entrees looked like a piece of art. I almost felt guilty eating mine... but I'm glad I did. The pork was cooked to perfection, and the sweet potato purée was heavenly. Everyone in our group was very satisfied. I will definitely be going back to this place. We have found a new favorite ! We no longer need to drive to SLC for great food and drink. read more

My husband and I went to this restaurant last night. It was delicious! We don't usually go to "fancy" places but we appreciate good food. My favorite thing I had was charred pea tendrils. My husband really loved the charcuterie board. His rainbow trout was better than my short ribs but they were both really good. The short rib needed more of the horseradish cream and it needed a little bit of texture since it was mostly a soft dish. We got the chocolate cake for dessert and it was okay. It was a little bit sweet for me. I think next time we will get the panna cotta instead. Our waitress, I THINK her name was Katie, was a fantastic waitress. I'll start off by saying that the food is incredible!! Very tasty and well presented. Now that that's out of the way.. my boyfriend and I had a reservation and arrived on time. We told the hostess we were there and she told us it would be just a minute to seat us. We waited for 10-15 minutes when there were plenty of open tables and we had a reservation! Suddenly we could be seated, even though nothing in the restaurant had changed. Once we had been seated, we waited around for another 10-15 minutes for someone to ask if we had been helped yet. Like we were forgotten about. Next the prices.. I understand it's top notch, high quality food (it sure tasted like it!!) and the prices would have been justifiable had there been more on our plates, or at least a starter like some bread. My boyfriend ordered the burger and was given SIX FRIES. What the heck?! Who gives you SIX fries with a burger?? Okay my rant is over. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was enjoyable. This place is nothing special. I got the avocado benedict and asked my server for potatoes instead of the english muffin, I got my order accept it didn't even have avocado on it! The rosemary potatoes didn't have any rosemary flavor to them and it seemed like they had been sitting for a while. My food wasn't warm either.. sad. First visit to Block. It was a good experience. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. The server was knowledgeable about the menu. I got the tenderloin and a wedge salad. Not my favorite wedge I've ever had. Expensive for what it was. Not a huge fan of the dressing either. That being said, it was still fresh. The tenderloin was good. Not as tender as a filet, but it was delicious. I got it medium rare and they nailed the temperature. It was a $36 steak, so I had high expectations. I meant to write this review months ago. Last August, my 18 year old daughter got married. I was less than excited yet supported her. She and her husband had a Utah wedding with NO alcohol and NO real food. At the reception, my oldest brother turned to me and said let's leave as soon as we can do it graciously and get something to eat and drink! We ended up at Block Restaurant as they were getting ready to close. For our unexpected party if 15, they happily reopened, fed us fantastic food and wine! Unbeknownst to my brother, I had already made a reservation for brunch the next morning. Rare to find anything open in Provo on Sunday. Again, the food and atmosphere more than exceeded our expectations!! And my brothers live in LA. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!! read more

I'm going to start by adding my voice to the others who have said that any criticisms about the food are ignorant and unfounded. And to the people complaining about the price: it's people like you are are keeping the crappy food around and the good food from coming. Please go away and take your negativity to the chuck o' Rama. Seriously. Okay, now that I've gotten that off my chest, I'll begin with my review. I've been here for both lunch and dinner. For lunch I got the blue cheese burger, which was delicious, because blue cheese and red meat is always fantastic. It was flavorful, and maybe some would find it too salty, but maybe I'm just a salty gal. ;) I also prefer my bacon a bit crispier than it was, but I realize they can't reasonably predict such a thing. The sweet potato fries were tender and also well seasoned. Overall a great lunch. Next is dinner. I went last night and got an array of appetizers because I was with a group. The charcuterie plate was delightful, and surprised me with every bite. Nothing that was boring or lacking in freshness or quality. Beautiful presentation, appetizing colors, just the whole packaged deal. I tried some yummy spicy meatballs, scrumptious nutty tortellini, fig tapenade (fantastic!! Except the crostini was just a tad bit hard to bite into) and pork belly from heaven above. I ordered the lamb entree which was absolutely incredible. I am really regretting not taking pictures because it was really lovely to look at and even better to eat. I am not a huge meat gal but I was eating that lamb down to the bone. The pea purée was the perfect compliment, it was really a thrilling plate. I got a virgin pomegranate moscow mule to wash it all down and it was so refreshing and perfectly crafted. They serve many non-alcoholic mixed drinks which is wonderful. The pièce de résistance was dessert. I was curious about the popcorn panna cotta and wasn't expecting much out of it. But oh my word. It was a revelation. I couldn't get over how it achieved the perfect balance of lightness and creaminess, crunchy and soft, sweet and salty. Every kernel of popcorn was airy and caramelized and paired beautifully with the panna cotta. I am so glad we decided to stay for dessert and not go out for ice cream. Please please do yourself a favor and go even if just for the dessert. If Jesus were here he would eat at this restaurant Thank you, Block, for gracing us with your artistry and cuisine. I will be coming back. UPDATE: went here again tonight and had the utterly scrumptious butternut squash soup. I keep waiting to see if the food will be bad, but nope, it keeps being good. Wow Definitely a new favorite for me. Everything was seemingly fantastic. As soon as we entered we notice the cute, quaint decor. We were met by our server Shelby who was awesome and helpful. She gave excellent cocktail reccomendations as well as food. The cherry whiskey sour was great if your into that sort of thing. As the food goes we ordered the brussel sprouts, charcuterie. The charcuterie was top notch and an extremely pleasant surprise. Next we got the artichoke which was great as well. I really liked how they made a simple artichoke such a heavy dish with great depth. Now for the real winner of the night..... The Gnocchi! This gnocchi is an absolute must. I have probably made gnocchi 500 times, and have eaten gnocchi at some of the best michelin star restaurants in the world such as 8 1/2 otto e mezzo bombana and I can honestly say the one I had tonight at the block was superior. The short ribs bites were so good. I would go back just for the gnocchi. But luckily there is much more to this place than just the gnocchi. For our main courses we got the ribeye and burger. The ribeye was cooked perfect and with just the right amount of seasoning. I really liked how they didnt dump a bunch of sauce on top of it but left a nice drizzle around the plate to get as much as I wanted. The burger was great, definitely best gourmet burger in Utah 100% Chef Dominique was there tonight and im super glad he was because dude was seriously putting in top notch chef skills. Food price / quality rating 10. Atmosphere is Neo-industrial with exposed brick and barnwood. We've only been here once, as we were passing through on vacation, but this is the kind of quality that would make me a regular. The menu items, especially the cocktail offerings, are creative and unique. I had a "Jalapeno Margherita" with a muddled jalapeno and a jalapeno salt on the rim. The wife had a special mojito. Both were excellent and original, and unavailable elsewhere. For my entree, I had a special of pan seared lobster tail over homemade Pappardelle pasta with asparagus and a spicy cream sauce. The wife had the Pappardelle menu entree (see menu). Both were exceptional, and the presentations were beautiful. Both were served while still piping hot right out of the kitchen, a pet peeve of mine. The restaurant has two large dining areas, as well as a large bar area. Liquor, wine and beer are available (not easy to find in Utah), and the service was fantastic. Our waiter was very attentive, and the manager and the owner took the time to check if our visit went well. An unusual dessert menu rounded out the evening nicely. In the restaurant business, you get what you pay for, and in this case, the value was spot on. read more

The meal I had at Block was delicious but way over priced. The ambiance is very classy and sophisticated but overall, way too pricey for what you get. I dined with my family and my 91 year old grandfather said it best: *looks at menu* "Dang I could buy a while bison for $40 why would I pay to buy one chopped up." My thoughts exactly. Fun new place in Provo. Great food and good people- the owner came and talked to us and was so nice. Cheese plate was amazing. Could've been my meal by itself! I wanted to try something else as well so I got the Cobb salad which was simple but managed to be so flavorful and delicious at the same time. We also got the sun dried tomato and bacon linguine with a browned butter sauce and it was also amazing. Not a huge portion but enough for one person for sure.
