Mozart playing in the background, quite unusual for an Indian restaurant and the food was excellent! Particularly the Chicken 65 and goat vindaloo. Also nice, was that film music wasn't blaring and the Bollywood, Tollywood and Kollywood videos that seem to be de rigueur these days at Indian places hadn't been fired up. The place wasn't crowded at 11:30 am on a Saturday either so definitely worth the schlep from Urbana-Champaign. I'll reluctantly take a star off when making a comparison to a couple of places on the East Coast else five stars for Central IL.

Great place as far as getting cuisine that isn't common in this area. It's located at North Martin Luther King Jr. and Pershing. And nothing ever compares. But Rasoi was definitely one of my favorites in recent memory and I really enjoyed the food, takeout or not! I had the gobi chili (dry), made with battered cauliflower florets tossed in a spicy sauce with onions and bell peppers. I also had the aloo tikki, not to be confused with the aloo gobi. Aloo tikki is two tasty potato patties that are meant to be dipped in flavorful sauces. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, perfect for the potato lovers. This version is like a potato patty had a baby with a hash brown, but great just the same. And the chicken vindaloo, served in a tangy tomato based curry with tomato. This was also delicious. I am usually not a bread or naan person (though I can definitely appreciate it), but this time I got the onion naan. It was thin and buttery and I could definitely taste the onions baked in. Excellent. Should be noted that this place does not offer spice levels on DoorDash (but they do on their regular website). I would call everything I received medium spice. It was flavorful, but not much heat. And that's probably what most palm colored people are looking for. I could use a little more heat, and I'm sure they would provide if I had asked for it in a note, but when I first taste a place, I usually start with medium to gauge the true taste of a dish. Many of the traditional Indian offerings--veggie samosas, pakora, chicken 65, various gobi iterations, naan, roti, biryani, various paneer dishes, . They also offer things that aren't as common in the average restaurant, such as tandoori fish (they actually have several seafood offerings), Punjabi Kadhi (pakoras in curd and sauce). They offer Indian-Chinese fusion as well (egg fried rice, chili chicken, vegetable noodles). They have a chaat (Indian street food) selection, dosas (lentil wraps). And while I'm not a fan of specialty restaurants catering to the American masses, they do offer various sandwiches, burgers, nuggets, and wings. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I am really surprised to see such good reviews about this restaurant. May be it was good in past!! to be particular ambience of this restaurant is awful. They did not clean for expected open time. There was no proper staff to take order promptly and provide service to customers. We ordered special chicken biryani and was totally disappointed as it looked stale and tasted stale. It happened couple of times. Cost is high and quality is low. I ordered once and I learned that there is no much difference between 2 curries as they use same sauce and mix pieces accordingly with out special recipes. So if you go to eat-in, you are secluded a bit from the traffic of people coming in and placing orders.
