We love Uncle Tom's Pancake House! Met a friend for breakfast last week and Uncle Tom's never disappoints. Vicki was our waitress and made us feel very welcome. Our food came out quickly and was delicious with plentiful portions. I had the classic 2 egg breakfast with hash browns and pancakes and my friend had a vegetable omlette. Delicious! Vicki kept the coffees full and checked us often to make sure we didn't need anything. She had also put some of her art on the specials board to make it more fun! Classic place to go at breakfast. It of course has pancakes. Uncle Tom's is a longtime popular place in Normal, and looks like it has been around a long time. Has pretty limited hours, just mornings into early afternoon. The food isn't much healthy but they do have some fruit and better options. Besides the pancakes, they have other popular items at breakfast. It also has omelets, which are popular for the gut busting crowd around here. The vegan options are few, but they do have some. It's about $2 for coffee. Orange juice is the healthiest beverage, if not a bit sweet. For sure pancakes are the main thing of course. They can make these individually or have big stacks. Fresh fruit is about $2 for a little bowl. Toast is about $1 for a few slices. Gets very busy at breakfast. It seems it's more popular with the longtime locals than the college students. That's not saying this isn't a cool place but many will think like that though. read more

Friendly and efficient waitstaff. Great menu assortment for breakfast. The gyro meat is authentic sliced off the cone. The only reason for only 4 stars is the restaurant could use some deep cleaning. Tables were sticky, pay better attention to the sides when cleaning. Bathrooms need a good thorough sanitation. Stall dividers are rusty, locks on stall held on by 1 bolt out of 4. Absolutely worth it, right off I-55, friendly fast service and the food was excellent. Dare I say, my brother says it's the best waffle he's ever had. I ordered the country fried steak breakfast. It came with choice of toast or pancakes, hash browns and eggs. The steak was crispy and delicious and the gravy was just the right creamy/spicy. After 3 unsuccessful attempts and 40 minutes wait at Fo*t Jes*e Cafe, I thought to myself Chicken & Waffle served in a 20-seating brunch place is just not my thing. Uncle Tom's is a totally different experience. We were seated right away, next to some friendly and elderly community neighbors. The lady who served us with humor and friendliness. I had the BEST skillet ever (probably my hunger after waiting too long at the other place contributed to this comment, too)!! Highly recommend the Polish sausage skillet with those fluffy packages. Biscuits in gravy is just okay. I also love the home/family idea. Went for a weekday brunch so not too busy. We were greeted right away. The menu seems to have something for anyone. The food arrived fairly quickly and hot. Well that was disappointing. We stopped by on our way through town around 11:00 am. Having lived in the area a while ago we remembered Uncle Tom's as a nice place for a good breakfast or sandwiches. When we arrived there were two tables of customers and three waitresses which might make you think that service would be good. Unfortunately that was not the case. We ordered a chicken sandwich, one egg and a biscuit. It took our waitress over 15 minutes to come over to our table to take our order. She chatted with the other waitresses, she cleared off tables, and she ignored us. Once our order was taken the food came within 15 minutes, but then we waited and waited again for our check. While the egg and biscuit were both good, the chicken sandwich was dry as dust and the accompanying potato soup was so loaded with salt that it was inedible. Add to that the fact that the bathrooms needed a good cleaning. We won't be back. read more
