Food is easily a 4 out of 5. The service, on the other hand, is about a 1 out of 5 (being generous by rounding up). Honestly, I think the chef is perpetually on tranquilizers or something, because I see one plate come out every 30 minutes. It takes forever for them to cook anything (even my water took 10 minutes). Sometimes, I'll call in an order, even if I don't want anything from there, because by the time it's done, who knows? Local people often rave about the food, and I'm pretty sure it's because they're so hungry after the wait, by the time they get the food, about anything would taste good. And what is the point of a $1 membership to go there? Maybe up the membership price and hire another chef? Or even invest in accepting anything other than Cash Only. read more

The Bloomn' Thai is one of my all-time favorite small town restaurants. It is located in a house and run by a family. The food is 5 stars. Order the Spicy Calamari, Thom Yum Kai soup, Green Curry with Chicken, Spicy Pork Fried Rice, and Bananas with Coconut Ice Cream. Eat it - Pack up the rest - take it home - eat again tomorrow. Repeat as necessary. I do dream about the Bloom' Thai and its food. Once in awhile you might feel as though you are in the middle of a Seinfeld episode....... when dining in. It is all part of the experience. Make sure you call ahead for reservations, every time you go. It does not matter what day of the week. And..... if you have never been there before, you must sign up to become a member. It is $1 for a lifetime of membership. They will ask you for your member number when you make your reservation. The Blooming Thai is a private club. They close early - so the last reservation is usually around 8 - 8:30. And, it is a dining experience so expect to be there for at least 2 hours. Very disappointing. When we arrived this evening (11/29/15) at 6pm, there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant and we were seated in a corner with 2 drafty windows. We also immediately noticed that the high back chairs were very uncomfortable. They feel like they're actually pushing you forward. Our waitress was slow to take our drink order and slow to deliver. We started with appetizers: calamari and dumplings. For entrees, I ordered the ginger duck and my g/f ordered the curry duck. It took about 15 minutes for the calamari to come out, which seemed a little long, especially since they weren't busy. The calamari was ok, a little undercooked imo because it was a little rubbery at times. The sweet and spicy sauce it comes with was delicious. It took another 20-30 minutes for our dumplings to come out. During this time, 2 other couples came in along with several people picking up to-go orders. The dumplings were burned around the edges, and a couple of them were burned on the top or bottom...you could smell the burn more than anything else. They had the look, taste, and texture of something you'd buy in the frozen food section at the grocery store. We've now been here for nearly an hour and we've had 2 appetizers and our waitress had only been to the table once to check on us and our drinks. Meanwhile, the 2 parties who came in after us are eating their entrees, along with several more people who picked up to-go orders. 1 hour and 10 minutes after our order wad taken, we decided we waited long enough. I wanted to pay our bill and leave, but the waitress was no where to be found. A few minutes later she appeared and I asked for the check. She said our food was ready to come out, but at that point we didn't care. We just wanted to go. She brought the check and said that the reason for the wait is because duck takes longer to prepare. True as this may be, I've never waited over an hour for duck. More importantly, had she been an effective and attentive waitress, she would have told us when we ordered that it would be a longer than usual wait for our food. Any half decent restaurant and/or server will let you know something like this. Service: Awful, slow, inattentive. Apps: Bad. Entree: ?? Probably still cooking for all I know. We heard very good things about this place from several friends, but we certainly didn't get anything that even came close to meeting expectations. Well, after moving out to PA from Southern CA, I did not expect to find any ethnic restaurants as good as Bloomn' Thai (it seems like all the Asian restaurants in the area are all Chinese Buffets). The food here was excellent and better than most of the Thai restaurants back in CA. I can't really comment on the membership aspects, etc. as I was invited by friends that are regulars at this restaurant. But, I highly recommend trying this place out if you are into Thai food. read more

PROS: Ornamental Thai atmosphere with statues and music. The chief is Thai. The two excellent dishes I had are Massaman beef curry and Coconut Chicken Soup also known as Tom Kha Gai. There may be other excellent dishes, particularly the curry dishes and chicken Satay. CONS: Service feels slow. I tried 5 dishes and 4 soups. I would give 1 dish and 1 soup an A (the two items I recommended above), and the rest that I tried either a B or C (maybe D+). CONCLUSION: If you know exactly what you want and know that it's great (like the two dishes I listed), and want to spend time (eg. on a date) in a nice atmosphere or do take out, Bloomin' Thai is a great choice. I love the membership card. The "Bloomn' Thai Phuket Club". Phuket--get it? Phuket to the stupid zoning ordinance that wouldn't let them be a restaurant. So they became a private dining club, with $1 memberships. I still grin every time I think about it. Food was good. In town for a quick business meeting and looking for some Thai food, Yelp led us to Bloomn' Thai. A quaint little establishment in what is obviously a college town, Bloomn' Thai has a lot of authentic Thai decor, dominated by elephants. My co-worker and I waited several minutes to be greeted, and hearing noises coming from the back, went and alerted the lone server of our presence. We were told rather brusquely that only members were served and that it was cash only. A lifetime membership costs one dollar, which seems an odd way to obtain service, but we paid and were given our "membership card." Since they advertise this as a "private dining club," this must be the way to weed out the riff-raff. ;-) We ordered an appetizer of chicken satay, which was a generous five skewers of chicken accompanied by the traditional peanut sauce and cucumber-carrot-onion sides. The peanut sauce was less sweet than most, a not entirely unwelcome. My co-worker had the Chef Tong Rice, medium spicy, and I had the Kai Yang. Each entree was sizable, and I was glad I had passed on a soup first course! My co-worker said the spiciness of his rice was just right. My course was a half chicken barbecued in marinated spices and accompanied by a Thai sweet chili sauce. Tasty, but not outstanding. Certainly filling, though, so we passed on desert. our total bill came to $32+ not including tip. Add the one dollar membership, and the tip, and our total came to $41. I don't think I can express the true depth of my love for Bloom'n Thai...but I will try. The food is amazing. I am a very picky eater. I hardly eat any vegetables, or anything spicy. At Bloom'n Thai... I eat everything. My favorite is the Chicken Cashew. I get cravings for Bloom'n Thai and there was a two week stretch where I ordered it every other day for lunch. Your standard American Thai restaurant. Not exceptional, but quite acceptable and one of the better restaurants in the area (especially for vegetarians). The Taro-Todd (breaded fried taro) was wonderful. I didn't specify a level of spiciness when I ordered my entree (Pad Zee Eeu) and it came without any spice; otherwise it was the way I like it. The Thai Iced Tea was way sweeter than I've received it before and I couldn't drink it. The service was a little odd. This is the ONLY restaurant worth going to in Bloomsburg. As a native of this tiny town, I can attest to its profound lack of dining establishments, save loathsome chains and vile local joints. For those of us who are not contented with tired chicken fingers, Bloomin' Thai is a godsend. Yes, the building and "dining club" concept are somewhat unorthodox but you will get over that once you are indulging in savory spring rolls, pineapple fried rice, and thai tea. The pad see ew is my favorite dish. There are no ethnic grocery stores in Bloom and I really crave flat noodles when I am visiting. Bloomin' Thai satisfies my cravings and makes for divine leftovers. I do recommend placing an order for pickup, as in-house service can lag. Having lived in NYC and Philly, I genuinely feel this place gives a lovely profile of Thai cuisine. Extremely good prices for portion size. Those who are used to the traditional preparations may find the flavors slightly watered down for the masses. This place has really good Thai food, and there isn't much in this area--hence, I drive 30 minutes just to eat here. Plan to wait a while for your food, as it is a bit slow, but worth the wait. What a relief it is that Bloomn' Thai is around to break the monotony of pizza places and sub places that comprise the majority of dining options in this city. Bloomn' was very enjoyable not just in the context of being unique among generic restaurants; it cooks up amazing Thai cuisine even when compared with far more expensive Thai restaurants in more metropolitan cities. We were a party of five, all out-of-towners here on business. What was new to me was the PA tradition of restaurants allowing outside alcohol. We brought two growlers from Turkey Hill Brewery to provide libations throughout our dinner. We started with a bowl of Thom Kah Kai. It arrived in the traditional aluminum bowl over coals. The soup was tangy, spicy and sweet - an ideal combination of chili, coconut milk and lime juice. The soup was followed by four or five entres. The portions are large. A remarkable aspect to me of the food was that ingredients were chosen carefully AND the food was cooked very well. Their simmer sauces and curries are flavorful and they glaze the food in a way that is only accessible to authentic chefs of Asian cuisine. For dessert we ordered fried bananas with coconut ice cream. Again, huge portions. They must have fried up three bananas to complement the three scoops of ice cream. Nice! My party enjoyed good service. They even stored our second growler in the fridge until we needed it. We were the last ones in the restaurant and there was no hurry. read more

Best Thai food ever. I currently live near NYC and, despite the endless options for Thai, catch myself considering making the 4 hour drive to Bloomsburg for Bloomn' Thai. The flavors are just unbeatable. And, it is also very reasonably priced! The service can be a bit iffy and weird. Call ahead to make a reservation and become a lifetime "member" for $1. I never had a truly bad experience with the staff though so I think it is still well worth checking it out for the food! read more

We were so excited for this place to open back up after a months vacation. Not sure what happened while they were closed but a great place is now awful. We waited over 2hours while we got one meal at a time over a 2 hour 15 min period of time. 6 of us for dinner 2 table of the night there was no excuse for poor service like this. They were out of most of the specials again we were the 2nd table for the night. I was still waiting for my meal after 2 hours 15 mins everyone in our group were done eating when I told them to just forget my meal at this point. Sadly they didn't even have tea. Food was seriously lacking the proteins like shrimp and chicken in the dishes. To make it worse the owner was annoyed with us for not waiting longer to get my dinner. Great! I was in town for a few days and looking for options to meet my foodie standards. Everything near my hotel was a big chain, a definite no for me. HOWEVER: what good does that do anyone if you can't get served? this is a "private club" meaning: you need a membership. reservations required - the membership number required when calling in the reservations and the card physically in-hand when you show up. ok, that's an amusing way to get out of having two restrooms and being certified as a legitimate restaurant but here's the thing... i made a 7:30 reservation on a tuesday night recently for three people. we showed up at 7:35 to a restaurant that only had 2 customers in it. and we were turned away for being late! WTF?!? i know how to jump through hoops for good food. the international soup kitchen (inspiration for seinfeld's soup nazi): been there, happily done that. nozawa sushi on ventura (order a california roll or use your cell phone and get shown the door): not a problem. but a respectably decent thai restaurant in a former bus station in bloomsburg ain't worth getting jerked around for. read more

We were on our way through Pennsylvania and having read positive reviews and that they are supposedly open until 9, we decided to stop in Bloomsburg to have dinner here. It took us some time to find this place, but we still arrived at about 7:30. When we came in, there was noone there to greet us, and nothing to suggest that we should seat ourselves. So we waited for about 5-10 minutes until finally, someone came out only to tell us that they were closed. Disappointed, we thanked him and left. As we were walking away, it occurred to us that three things didn't add up - 1) Multiple websites show them closing at 9pm and it was only 7:30, 2) Their "open" sign was still on, and 3) Another group seemed to be waiting for food. So my fiancee called them (since they might have recognized my voice) asked how late they were open. The person on the phone said 8pm. We had been lied to. We later found out that this place usually requires a membership and a reservation. If that was the issue, they could have told us that. Instead, I'm left to wonder if the person we spoke to was trying to leave early by refusing customers, or worse, discriminating against out-of-towners. Whatever the case may be, the fact that staff members feel they can get away with lying to customers is not a good sign for this restaurant. read more

Stopped here while we were driving on 80. Would specifcally recommend this thai place to vegan / vegetarians. The service is great and very aware of the concern about animal products in dishes when ordering vegetarian. We ordered the summer rolls, vegetable yello curry, and the pad thai. My favorite was the pad thai, as compared to pad thai I've had in Chicago this was delicious. Also the summer rolls came with the peanut sauce on top so heads up (you may want to ask for it on the side). I definitely recommend this place! read more

First of all, Yelp has the wrong info. This place does NOT accept credit cards. And it closes at 8, so I was told. Being one of the few Thai restaurants in the area, they are not bad, I would even say decent for Thai food. BUT I will not be going back after going there 2 times, once served, once not served at all. The stupid membership was annoying. I went once with a friend who paid for my membership but I did not get any membership card from her and I did not know that you need it. Second I didn't understand why you need a reservation. When we went for lunch they asked us, we said no, they still served us, slow, but they served us. Second I went, well before closing time, they told me it is closed, and told me to call to make reservation. I feel like thy are not very nice or welcoming and just turn us away because we didn't do certain strange things because we didn't know the "rules". It was just too much hassle for me to go through for ok thai food that isn't even close to my house. I will not return there anymore. You would think with all the money they collected for the membership they can afford to put in a bathroom by now. Part of the dinning experience is the service and we did not get good ones both time we went. oh well... read more

It is standard Thai food. Tastes super fish-saucy to me, but it is a nice break from the plethora of boring food places around. You have to become "a member" for $1 to eat there, so be prepared for that little gem. The restaurant itself is interestingly decorated, and the night I was there, we were the only people in the restaurant. The server barely checked on us, and at the end of the meal we had to beg for our check. The server never came by to ask if we needed refills on drinks, or change, or anything. The place only takes cash, so also be prepped for that. It is A-okay, but I like John's in Danville better. read more

5 stars because I think this is consistently the best dining experience to be had in Bloomsburg. The menu is ample for patrons of varied tastes and preferences. The dining room is quiet and relaxed, service is courteous and adequate. The fare is authentic, fresh and full of flavor. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially considering if you order an entree for yourself after an appetizer, you will definitely be taking some home. I would personally recommend any curry dish - ask for "extra spicy". Thai food is best spicy. ;) read more

Have eaten here in the past and were happy with the overall experience. Just went back around a month or so ago, and it is not what it once was. The fried Taro was cold, the duck breast my wife ordered was anything but a waste of money, and their version of drunken noodles was leftover reheat crap, and for some reason it took forever. But, it is way better than the thai places I've found in Madison, WI (where they don't seem to understand what spicy means), and definitely the best restaurant I found in Bloomsburg or Danville while I was there for work. Food was ok, but all seemed to have the same Thai chili sauce used on everything (it was a great sauce but monotone across two apps and two meals) and wasn't enough to justify the lack of service. Decent Thai food, really the only Thai option in Bloomsburg that we could find as we trekked back east from upstate NY. Prices seemed fair for the quality and value. One major downfall - the service. There was one front of the house employee that handled everything - bus, host, wait, food run, take out orders. There were five tables dining there when we left (we got there right when they opened at 5) and everyone was looking for the front of house person to either fill drinks, take dinner orders, bring glasses (it's byo, btw), etc. I'm not sure if the restaurant is usually short staffed. It was a summer Monday night so it could've been a fluke as it relates to staff to guest ratio, but it could also be a recurring theme as several yelpers noted the bad service. If you aren't in a rush and bring your own booze, you should have a decent experience. read more
