The Pepper Plant Hot Sauce (Original California Style) is a Carmel, CA restaurant table mainstay. It is salty and I love it. I'm actually blown away my, since I have a salt-addiction. This is the fucking cocaine of hot sauces. To say it is addictive is an understatement. Read the other reviews. Yup, 100% 5-stars. Many folks buy it by the case. There is a message there isn't there? I found it at the Elk Grove Nugget Market. I won't argue that Nugget has very good stuff, but you pay for it at check out. They have an excellent selection of hot sauces and I went in to try something new. The Pepper Plant hot sauces were on sale, 2 for $7.00. Not a bad deal so I bought a couple. The Original California style is just a little chunky and one of the milder sauces in my collection of hot sauces. The Chipotle-style is more than a traditional hot sauce in flavor. They both are some of my favorite hot sauces. They aren't, burn your mouth spicy, but they kill it on flavor. I must try the other varieties and not just keep buying the same two. This is also a rather emotional moment for me, as talking about the Pepper Plant may be more meaningful to me than my loved ones or my dog or even my guitar collection. That may sound sick to you, but I am sick man when it comes to Great Hot Sauces that Matter in this Trivial World. This is simply _incredible_ Hot Sauce. Those of you who obsess about Hot Sauce, as some of us do -- those of us who are Hip to he significance of this Critical Condiment from God -- know that every great hot sauce excels at some particular type of food or cuisine. The Pepper Plant is the killer breakfast hot sauce with eggs, bar none, and please don't debate this or you will be banished from further discussions. Some marketing whiz at Blossom Valley Foods [and marketing is not one of their strong points based on their circa 1995 web site] created the idea that you _cannot buy_ The Pepper Plant in a store. No, we are toying with you, Buster. Instead, The Pepper Plant is only sold by restaurants. Strange, but as it turns out, simply brilliant. Why? It makes the product more exclusive and marks the restaurants who serve it as Hall-of-Fame restaurants, IMHO. These, of course, are breakfast joints in keeping with the hot sauce's Sweet Spot -- breakfast. While there is no Greatest Hot Sauce -- which would be like having a Most Beautiful Woman [impossible] -- this _may be_ the Greatest Breakfast Hot Sauce. It is superb. It is complex. It has a California vibe thanks to the Jalapeno Puree and the Gilroy roots. Now I don't know what else Blossom Valley Foods makes. But I could care less. I don't care if they produce Pig excrement frankly. I don't care if they slaughter vegans in their warehouse. The best hot sauce I've ever had. Not so hot that it drowns out everything. Just a perfect balance of hot and great flavor. I put this on almost everything I eat. It's a little hard to find in retail stores. A lot of restaurants use it so maybe you can buy a bottle from them. That was the first place I tried it at (a restaurant) and the owner gave me a bottle. You down with T.P.P.? Yeah you know me! The Pepper Plant is the "WD-40" of "hot" sauces. You can literally use it for anything, but does not have the vinegar taste like Basco. I put "hot" in quotations, becasue even the Habanero hot sauce isn't anything that is going to melt you face off. My favorite is to mix in T.P.P. with ketchup and dip fries in it. It is also a hell of a sauce for dressin' up a turkey sandwich on wheat. Oh, and a TPP Bloddy Mary with fresh horseradish will make you want to freeze it into ice blocks and go skiing on it in the winter. read more

This is my first review for a hot sauce, so you know it's serious. I like the regular California hot sauce or whatever it's called. I first had it with some veggie chili at Big Sky in SLO (which was fantastic, by the way) and I knew I had to add a bottle to my hot sauce collection. Turns out they sell in the usual grocery stores here in SLO so I will be stocking up before I go home. The sauce has heat & flavor, which is difficult to find these days, when it seems to be all about heat. I can't wait to add this to breakfast at home too! read more

I love anything hot and I know my hot sauces! I have a number of sauces that I really enjoy but found the best I have ever tasted when we had breakfast in Big Sur, CA. I tried The Pepper Plant CA Style Hot Pepper Sauce on my eggs, then used it on my potatoes and bacon too. I could not get enough of this great tasting sauce and was very pleasantly surprised when I read the ingredients on the label. Except for a little sodium there is nothing unhealthy in it. Now I can enjoy the flavor and feel good about it too! We were please when the General Store had the product on the shelves. And I don't feel guilty about buying them out! Great product! read more

Not only do these guys produce awesome hot sauce - my favorite is their chunky garlic pepper sauce - but their customer service is exceptional as well. Recently I ordered a case of hot sauce. A friend brought me a bottle of Pepper Plant Original Pepper Sauce from California several years ago. Although I think it's a little bit on the salty side, the flavor is awesome. I use it on just about everything (eggs, vegetables, potatoes, meat, in a cheese quesadilla...) and have since purchased three or four cases via their online store. I rated the price as "moderate" because of the per bottle average, although buying by the case takes a little forethought ($45.)
