We stopped by El Charrito Market while visiting Gilroy, and we're so glad we did. I ordered the pambazo, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavor of the chile they used to dip the bolillo was very flavorful. It was one of the best pambazos I've had. My wife ordered the tlayuda, and she loved it as well. Everything tasted fresh. On top of the great food, the service was awesome. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We're from Orange County, but we'll definitely make El Charrito Market a regular stop whenever we're passing through Gilroy on future road trips. This place is truly a hidden gem, and we can't wait to come back! read more

The food is the quite the what we need in a hometown type of restaurant! Very cool items that make it authentic! Let's start with the tortillas. Handmade on your tacos with loads of meat options. Menudo, to flautas to southern Mexico cuisine is what allows you to taste Mexico in 1 sitting! Pozole for fiestas, Oaxacan delights to fresh made tortillas with frijoles and you can purchase some nice "crunchy" exotic items that bring it all together! Tere and the rest of the staff are super friendly and understand the menu very well. Super cool vibe inside the restaurant give you time to pick up some Tlayuda shells to take home. Oh. My. Lort. This place is such a hidden gem! Totally authentic Mexican decor, music, employees...and a vegan menu!! I got the Tacos Dorado Plate, 2 bean and 1 potato. But get this, they brought out 3 potato tacos and told me they're bringing me the two bean ones since they mixed up the order. So I got 5 tacos!! The tacos were SO good! Love this cute Mexican market. I only say cute because it has a nice variety of things. Its half market half resturaunt and the food is prepared fresh. I used to love this place, this is where I came to get masa to make Tamales but the couple of times I have been there it's just rude service . The masa that is prepared went down greatly in quality. Sometimes they used way to much Manteca where is just dripping out of the bag it looks like they just dumped a bucket of masa on it. This place is one of Gilroy hidden treasures of Mexico. They transport you as you come in with the authentic music and friendly greeting. Then it divides into two aisles:1 to market to get fresh meat and vegetables plus other essentials. Then 2 takes to the flavored of Mexico by showing you a menu that is full of delicious and authentic taste of many regions from Mexico. As far north to the south, it's hard to decide what or which to choose. OMG.they even have sautéed grasshopper with garlic yummm ! The taste of all of what I ordered which was Birria taco with a bowl of its own soup plus a picadita w/o meat, a Hand Made Tortilla freshly made!! I went over board and couldn't stop myself. Poor hygiene! But the food was tasty, despite our order being wrong. It was our first visit today. There was a gentleman who was working on the market side, but also came to the restaurant side and was seen wearing the same pair of gloves without washing or changing them in between serving customers. I saw him go from the meat section, putting on his jacket and taking it off, helping at the cash register and serving coffee and food without changing his gloves. I was watching like a hawk to make sure that he didn't touch our food because otherwise I would have complained. I'm coming to Yelp in hopes that the owner will see this and enforce proper hygiene and use of gloves. In that case my family and I would consider returning. Gloves are not for the users protection and actually prevent good hand hygiene and promote the spread of bacteria and infection if used improperly. Please educate your staff!! read more

I've only been here for their breakfast burritos. We usually get their chorizo. They're really tasty & filling. I'd recommend calling ahead as the wait is always longer than most places. I get them to go. I don't know why I've never gone in the afternoon for their other stuff but I guess someday I will. Can't go wrong though with the breakfast burritos. The only other knock is the salsas. I personally don't care for them but my wife likes one of them. I'd rather take the much spicier Super Taq salsas anyday over El Charrito's. read more

We were able traveling and wanted a breakfast burrito. This small market/restaurant had it. The burrito had fresh ingredients. The chorizo egg, potatoes and salsa were amazing. I find it so hard to be on a diet or eat healthy when this place is so accessible to me! this looks like a meat market from the outside but there is a restaurant in the back. They offer tons of breakfast options as well as lunch/dinner. They are open early, and if you don't see something on the menu they can make it! everything I have ordered is made fresh and hot, and its like eating home cooked Mexican food that your abuelita made, you wont be disappointed and the portions are huge! one taco will fill you up! the rice is so good and the salsa is to die for! staff is super friendly too! call ahead of time if you are ordering to go because it takes time for all that freshness! there is a sit down area its not the most modernly decorated but you def will be delighted. read more

Every fall, they host a great local pumpkin patch for the kids, which features a variety of food trucks. There is plenty of parking, and it's easily accessible right off the 101. They've got a pretty good sized menu of meats for a food truck kitchen and a fridge full of sodas, jarritos and waters. The food is very authentic, I got Al pastor and asada tacos, they were very tasty! The staff was nice and brought the food out to our table. The shaded seating area was clutch on a 90 degree day. Will certainly be back when I'm down here!

The restaurant was spacious and comfortable. The food was delicious, I had a pork dish with chili verde which was excellent. My son had a chicken burrito which he enjoyed and gave a big thumbs up. The staff were very nice. 'Cash Only', sign at the front door is still in place which was not a problem for us. My only suggestion for the owners is to consider having some soft background music playing.

He took the plate and looked at it again and then he told me again that he'd replace them so I agreed. Why would I not agree if that's what I had ordered. It seems like he decided to punish me by giving me plain tacos with absolutely no guacamole, which I didn't realize was salsa - because it's not. I even tipped them which now I wish I hadn't as I used Zelle. Don't be upset at me when you make an order incorrectly or it wasn't communicated correctly. That's not on me. I will never come back to this place. The way I had to eat the tacos was unappetizing. I do not recommend the average-tasting taco. They also offer burritos, tortas, and a variety of seafood items. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating area looks very clean and maintained.
