10/10 haircut. I absolutely love this place, it was my first time getting my hair cut here and like other reviews said, the hairstylists really listen to what you want and will work with you. I was nervous about starting a new place but everything is clean, and staff is very friendly and detail oriented! They also did a blow out at the end of the treatment which was awesome! The pricing is very reasonable, other salons charge $100+ but this one is around $60 with tip for medium hair length which I really appreciated. Second and last time I will be going here. Made an appointment with the gal who cut my hair the first time I went here. She didn't ask me if I had a stylist preference and I didn't realize there was another gal. The one I was assigned to was very nice and gave me a lovely head massage when she washed my hair. I explained that I wanted a TRIM- a bit off the back and some blending. She proceeded to cut, but had trouble styling. (I had to ask her to put mousse in-I have very fine hair) She attempted to style but it was pretty sad. Very flat. The final straw was when I paid and it was $11.00 more than the last time. It had only been 2 1/2 months. Quite a price increase! Very dissatisfied. read more

My family loves this place. My husband gets his haircut here so does my son I get pedicures. They do a great job. I have a lot of problems with my feet and nails. I also have spa pedicure chairs They are super helpful and I don't have any problems anymore. I enjoy going there. They are very nice and easy-going. They offer a large array of services. I had my hair done by Mindy and she did an absolutely amazing job! She really listened to what I wanted and made sure everything came out exactly how I pictured it. On top of that, her hair washes and scrubs are next level -- so relaxing that I actually ended up falling asleep during my haircut! Very happy with my haircut from Tera! I have straight, coarse Asian hair and was looking for someone who can work with it. Tera is very meticulous and gave me a precision haircut (before and after photos attached). She nailed it and I will be back :-) Bonus: the hair-washing station is so comfortable. Health code violations - used hair implements being reused, laid out on dirty hand towels and if a comb hits the floor, it will be wiped on the dirty towel and reapplied to your hair! No. Just no. Lice, infection, you name it... I don't care how many stars you have, risking health to your customers is unacceptable! read more

Make an appointment. I did have to wait for 10 mins after my appt time, but Jo jog deal. I love how quiet this place is. I didn't have to be chatty. I could just close my eyes and relax. Great scalp massage included. Scalp scratching was a little intense, but exfoliating? The woman really had an attention to detail that was impressive. My haircut took about 70 minutes. I recently tried What the Hair Salon to get my hair cut, color and highlights. I was amazed by the whole process. Mindy took time for every strand to come out perfectly highlighted and she listened and gave me advice as to what she thought I needed done. I read quite a few reviews here which said they know how to cut Asian men hair and I took a chance and walked in. I did not have an appointment and Mindy (owner) was very accommodating. I waited about 10 mins and a stylist sat me down and we talked about how I'd like my haircut and she started cutting away. At first I started to worry as she seemed very timid. After a few mins I realized she must be new as she was not confident with each cut. I'm completely fine with her being new and taking longer, everyone starts somewhere. After a few more mins, Mindy finished with her client and took over. She is friendly, confident and definitely experienced in cutting Asian male hair. I went to see Mindy at the end of 2019. It was right before Christmas and I needed a new look. Without any previous referral and high hopes, I asked her to cut more than half my hair length off. Although I had never been there before, I just trusted Mindy based off of her initial questions and her double-checking my desired length and explaning how my hair would fall in the front. She is serious about checking her cut and evening layers out . After a quick sleek blow-dry, I was out the door with extra swagger! It was a great haircut at a great price ($35.00). Fast forward to 2020 and due to COVID-19 What the Hair was closed for several months. When they opened up again, I made an appointment and was happy to see how strict the salon was about following the new health codes and cleaning the area. This was my first visit outside of my house to a place that wasn't a grocery store or Target, but the salon made me feel safe (there was a temperature check, hand sanitizer and hand washing stations, many safety measures). Mindy was the only one working and she did it all from the check-in, sweeping, cleaning of chairs and shampoo sinks, etc. Keep that in mind and just be patient should you have a wait a bit. What the Hair salon prioritizes cleanliness AND style. My cut this time was $40, but that wasn't a big price increase with all things considered. I've had great results from coloring and cutting my hair with Tara. She takes her time and does a fabulous job of washing and conditioning your hair with a little massage. Something you don't get in most beauty salons. It's usually a quick wash and condition and out you go. Tara has also made sure she accommodated me when I needed her for a color before an event. As part of a 2 week road trip down the state from San Francisco, we happened to stay in Carlsbad for 4 days to visit friends. Was desperately needing a haircut and a style refresh. Was looking specifically for an Asian hair stylist or salon that had experience with Asian strands. Found 'What The Hair' on Yelp and based on the reviews decided to give it a try. My stylist had the best bedside manner. So gentle and the process was so relaxing I almost fell asleep on the chair. 45 minutes later got a great cut and new style I'm excited about! Didn't want the relaxation session to end, so asked if I can add on a gel pedi and they obliged even with a full schedule. A gem of a place. Super clean and very relaxing atmosphere. Just go here, you'll never need another hair stylist again I visited WTH on 07/13/21 because I finally needed to cut my crazy long, extremely dead COVID Hair. I have very fine, long Asian hair and have tried $10 haircut shops to the fancy "may I fix you a drink while you browse our snack menu" salons and I've pretty much just had okay cuts. Not anymore. I called hoping to get a same day appointment, but Mindy was unavailable but she set me up with Tara. I needed this cut bad and it was my only time over the next few weeks, so I said sure. The minute Tara started washing and massaging my head I knew I was in for a good experience. She did her cut, then blow dried, then did one of the most precise measurements and trim/styles I've had. In total I was in the chairs for over an hour. Once done I couldn't believe how fantastic her work was. I can stop staring at my gorgeous hair! The wonderful cherry/whip cream/chocolate sauce on top is the price. It was so affordable for the quality! I am so glad I found Mindy! When I arrived, Mindy took the time to look at two pictures of the look I was going for, color and cut. She took the time to analyze the photo and give me suggestions to give me the best results. She started off highlighting my hair to give it dimension, then did a full dye to give me the lighter look I was going for. After going through the dying process, she took her time cutting my hair and adding all the layers I was looking for in my thick Asian hair. I gave WTH Salon a try and I am a very happy customer. I showed her a picture of the cut I wanted and she gave me exactly that. I showed up 10min early to the appt and she took me in immediately.
