I paid $125 to have my virgin hair fried and breaking off. hate to leave a bad review but I'm really distraught about the condition of my hair. I came in yesterday to get two strands at the front of my hair bleached, as well as some highlights woven into my bangs. The owner asked if I had anything in my hair (dyed) and I replied that no, my hair is virgin, though I do have hairspray in. After showing her some photos of what I wanted, she poorly sectioned off my hair and began to apply bleach right over the hairspray. After expressing dismay at having to use foil, she sent me under the hair dryer for about half an hour. As soon as she started blow drying my hair, I realized something was wrong. The first thing I noticed was hot roots at the top of my head- an obvious line of demarcation where my roots show, along with an orangey line, along with orange spots all along my bleached strands. Though unprofessional, it's something that can be touched up, so I wasn't panicked, but then I felt my hair catching on her brush. I could feel the consistency of my wet, bleached strands- the hairs were stretching like gummy bears and breaking off. I'm now left with hair that has the texture of hay and breaks off every time I gingerly brush it, very asymmetrical color, obvious roots, and spots all over my hair. On top of that, I was overcharged. Edit: no, I did not ask for asymmetrical strands, my roots showing, orange spots, or for my hair to break off. read more

My friend Jan and I had a truly remarkable experience at this salon. Theresa, the owner went above and beyond for us. We both got color and haircuts and left feeling like a million bucks. I have really dark hair and color does not take easily. Although I loved my color, Theresa said that it I wasn't happy I could come in again, free of charge and she would redo my hair. What a breath of fresh air. Theresa herself was amazing. Her professionalism and knowledge was much appreciated and she really made my friend, Jan, feel amazing. I went to get my hair colored and cut. I have a lot of hair and an undercut. The lady was only supposed to color and trim, but she cut my undercut and made it very uneven. I had plans to get a full on undercut with the sides shaved and everything after i saw her and she made it very hard for the people to work with my undercut. She's also supposed to be a color specialist but the color is very uneven and patchy. I do understand the color I had in it before was going to be hard to get out but she didn't even let it dry completely before she put the dye in. Now I have to pay more money to get it fixed. The bleach also burned my scalp so bad I had to take it out early, that means the brand of bleach she uses is bad because I've bleached my hair before and it DID NOT burn like that. I was pleased to get a same day appointment. However, quite disappointed with the experience. I asked for a simple bob cut. The stylist spent less than 11 minutes on my cut and probably 5 minutes blow drying it and charged me 50 dollars!!! Poor attention to details. I spent more time driving to this place than what my appointment lasted. My brothers who are barbers spend a minimum of 25 minutes with each of their clients and charge half the price....I know what quality work looks like, and this was not. If you are looking for a low maintenance haircut, I recommend somewhere else. read more

I called to make an appt for my 9 year old daughter and was initially impressed by the quick availability. That should have been a sign that she has few clients. We got in same day. When we arrived the owner (Teri , I believe) was the only one working. She was cutting a gentleman's hair and my first thought was, "that's an odd scissors to be cutting hair". It was a very small scissors like the one that comes in a manicure kit. I didn't put too much thought into it as it was a man with shorter hair so maybe that's best for short hair. When it was my daughters turn , we discussed a simple trim. She took my daughter to wash her hair which was literally a 3 minute wash. Literally! When she started cutting she used that same small scissors and I should have asked but I didn't because 1) I'm not a hairdresser and don't know if it would cut the same 2) her reviews on here are outstanding so "it must be fine". After she finished she actually asked if my daughter wanted it dried. For $50 you better dry and style it! My daughter likes to dry it with a round brush and her response was , "well, I can't start with that but it will still be frizzy so i'll need to use the hot iron". That told me she doesn't know how to pull off a good blow out. She managed to round brush it somewhat nice but I would have expected better when you're charging $50. When she was done I asked her to put a little serum in it for shine and she said, "I put it in before I dried it". This woman is there for QUANTITY service, not quality! We were in and out within 30 minutes! This picture is after a wash at home but i brushed it out to see the butch cut she got from this woman. Can't believe the reviews are as good as they are. Called to make an appointment out of the blue and Teri booked me for the next day. I was really happy about the timing for a next-day appointment. When I showed up she welcomed me and listened to my concerns about cutting my latina-type hair. She knew exactly what my hair needed and did her magic! The layers were cut to perfection and I have so much volume and it feels healthier. She removed the fried ends that were splitting because I have thin hair but Alot of it and she created flattering layers. That is a great sign of a great owner, owning her sales and creating business. She could have easily turned me away or set it up on another day but she didnt. I respect that. I let her know what I was looking for. We talked it through and made a decision. After the first round it wasn't as dark as her expectation so she did another round to make it right. So I explained that most salons were closed and kids at school cut my daughter's hair and it needed to be fixed. Nothing crazy. Despite the many lessons I have learned about randomly choosing a salon or stylist sans-personal-recommendation for any work done on my hair, the full 5-star rating on yelp! gave me the courage to give Rumors a try. And yelp! did not steer me wrong! I had to go in for an 'emergency trim' after having burned a chunk of my hair (long story, don't ask!) and trying very very unsuccessfully to clean it up by taking a pair of scissors to the end of my own ponytail (note: don't EVER do that!) and ending up with some very choppy/uneven/and depressingly shorter in some spots hair. Additionally, I've been hot-ironing and curling the crap out of it for the past year or so with no trims in between, and on top of that, have some half-grown out remnants of my betty page bangs phase to make things even worse. Olivia the angel of hair took all that mess and through much careful layering/feathering/shaping/magicking managed to turn it into a gorgeous style. My old bangs now feather and blend into the main body of my hair... the ends are even and beautiful (while maintaining most of the length), and she cut out all of the badly damaged parts leaving my hair glossy and healthy looking. I've been getting compliments on it left and right from complete strangers. And even more astonishing: I got this cut for $35! (That's with the $10 off first-time client discount - don't forget to ask for it.) Unbelievable - it can easily pass for a $60+ cut. I like that Olivia listened to what I wanted and asked a lot of questions about what I do/don't want before ever putting a blade to my hair. She did interject her professional opinion and make some suggestions of her own, and they all turned out to be spot-on and inline with what I wanted. I'm not sure if this is normal for her, but I was able to get a same-day appointment by calling in ahead. Olivia was on time waiting for me when I walked in one minute before my appt time, and had me in and out (washed, cut, dried and styled) in about an hour. I am very pleased with my experience here and am happy to recommend Olivia at Rumors to anyone looking for an affordable and quality haircut in North County. read more

So I had previously gotten my hair done at another salon and I dyed my hair and the color went totally wrong even after going there twice. My first time here. I have short hair, and I didn't want to get butchered by Supercuts, so I decided to try a different place. When I called to make an appointment I told Teri my hair type, style and my expectations. My cut was alright, but for the price I paid, I should've had a decent style done. Teri almost sent me out with wet hair, attempted to style it and failed. She claimed to have been doing hair for 30 years, but I don't see that in her abilities to style any hair type and style. She blow dried my hair and flat ironed it with no heat protectant. ZERO hair product used, why am I paying $45 for this? At least Supercuts uses a pomade! Needless to say, I won't be coming back. $45 is a lot to ask for and not see the results I should. I was better off going to Supercuts. Otherwise, she was nice, but I felt a bit rushed, customer service and quality of work is mediocre. If you have short hair, do not come here. read more

Meh. Three stars because she scheduled me same day. And hair looked good at the end of the appointment. Owner did a blowout. She was not very personable, polite, or easy to talk to. She quick/messy dried my hair and it was super damp still when she grabbed a flat iron. I had to stop her to ask that she get the moisture out of my hair before putting 400 degree heat on it. Hot flat irons are very damaging to wet hair and extensions causing breakage and heat damage. She shampooed and conditioned, but I do not recall any other product. No heat protection. I also do not recall any serum, oil or styling crème after the blow dry was complete. Owner/stylist was disinterested and made no attempt to get to know me or to close me for a future appointment. I even mentioned moving up my extensions and needing highlights. Not impressed with her and won't go back. read more

Extremely disappointed with my experience and I haven't even had any services completed outside of a consultation. I chose this place after doing much research and reading reviews. I needed to make an appointment for a big birthday event for my mother and was given St. Clair's information from the owner. St. Clair contacted me right away and we set up an appointment for consultation. Afterwards it took a few days to get an appointment set up, but that was a bit of chore because we were told we would have to see 2 different people for color and for flat iron and style. Finally after about a week, I was given the confirmation that St. Clair was going to see my mother the morning of her birthday event at 9 am. This was one week before the event when the appt was set. I had to continue to follow up just to get an appt finalized. The night before my mothers birthday, I received a text message from the stylist at 9 pm that she will be canceling the appointment (with no explanation of why. Not sure if it was an emergency or not because all I got was she was canceling). She even had the audacity to give me referrals of stylist that are not even in the area. She referred us to stylist in Temecula!!! I had to scramble and find someone to take care of my mother on her birthday so that she would feel glamorous at her event. I was in tears not knowing if I was going to be able to find someone with such short notice. I wanted my mom to feel special on her day. We chose this facility because I wanted to find someone that could take care of African American hair that was close by and could establish an ongoing relationship, but I guess we are still in search. She may be a good stylist but will never know since we were never able to experience the work she could produce. I definitely will NEVER recommend this place or the stylist because I am extremely disappointed with how I was treated as well as my mother. If there was an emergency, I'm sorry for whatever you had to ensure. However, communication is key and there should have been more apologetic communication from even the salon if the stylist was unavailable. Very disappointing. read more

I spent $225 on a balayage that the owner, Teri, did for me. She had told me through yelp messages that she charges $150-$200 for balayage. So I decided that it was in my budget and I made the appointment for 5 PM only 30 minutes later than her suggested time for my appointment, but she agreed to it. When we first began, she did a mini consolation and she started to brush through my hair. She commented on how she thought my hair was thin and long. She asked me what I wanted for my hair and I was pretty thorough and specific about what I wanted and she seemed to have understood. The whole session felt VERY rushed and I feel like she didn't put enough effort to my hair. She cut about only 3 INCHES off my hair and did a "balayage" that was very natural, but almost not any different from my hair before. After my session she said "Because I didn't realize how long and thick your hair was it's gonna be $225". This was absurd because she had just said 2 hours ago my hair was thin. SHE DID NOT DO A GOOD ENOUGH JOB TO MY HAIR FOR IT TO BE $225. For it to be this natural and having no dimension like a balayage, I think it should have costed less. My roots don't blend at all with the color when it should be (it's pretty streaky) and the bleach job was not executed well because one side of my head is more dyed than the other. I'm very angry because I was really excited to get my hair done and I work very hard for my money and she ripped me off. I'm not one to usually leave reviews, but I truly felt like she manipulated me because she might have though I was just a young, oblivious teen. I will never come here again. read more

I was fit in for a last minute appointment. Staff was friendly but my cut was awful - and I am fairly laid back about my hair. I have long layers that she curled so it was hard to see the gaps when I left. The stylist who saw me 2 weeks later to correct it actually took a picture it was so bad. I should have gone back next day and asked her to fix it but I really did not have the time nor did I have any faith that it would be anything close to what I wanted. read more
