Tried the Pita Shop for the first time today and I can say when you want an excellent traditional gyro, this is a great choice. Located off old ranch road 12, there's nothing flashy about this slot in an old strip retail building. It looks likes it been here a while and absolutely nothing has changed.. except maybe the prices. Nonetheless, it's very clean and maintained. The man behind the counter was friendly to me and the other customers. I ordered a traditional gyro that comes with fries and a soft drink. The food was ready in 10 minutes and delivered to my table. The gyro was perfect. The pita and meat portions piping hot and the lettuce, tomato, onion and tzatziki sauce nicely chilled and fresh. Each bite was consistently good. The French fries were hot and nicely seasoned. Very happy to have the pita shop hit the spot for a gyro craving. read more

The falafel pita was extremely bland. The falafel itself tasted like lettuce no seasoning no spices, nothing. The bread was chewy and tough to chew! It barely had any tahini in it. The fries are inedible, fried in old grease, flaccid and not crispy. Very soft to touch. Portion size of the fries was very limited. The fries look old since the color is very dark. They look like they were fried to the very minimum or not at all. I couldn't even finish them. They got cold very quickly. Just disgusting really. I emphasize that they taste old. I'm sure why this place has high reviews on Google or Yelp. They did not do a good job on my order at all. I'm from Houston and I've had better falafels with full flavor, but I guess since this is San Marcos they know they can slack off. I know my Mediterranean food and usually the cuisine has a lot of good spices! I won't be coming back. It was disgusting! I now have to eat at a better restaurant to cover the disgust on my palate. read more

I am Lebanese so I had to try this place being in San Marcos. So many positive reviews. I had my high hopes to finally find the authentic shawarma. Sadly they don't even have the stick of meat and grill. They cook the meat on a flat grill in the kitchen. I was expecting a real strong garlic sauce which wasn't the case. I'm a big fan of lamb and was craving some today, so, today was my first time eating at The Pita Shop. It was pretty yummy! I got the Gyro Pita, and it came with a side of fries. The cashier was very sweet and asked if I wanted water while I waited and if I wanted ketchup and napkins on my way out. I didn't even know this spot had such good ratings until I checked in on Yelp and had already ordered my food. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of 5 star reviews & decided to order the shawarma club with the side salad & a side of hummus and pita! It was delicious! The meat was so flavorful and the pita was soft and yummy. I asked for no dairy on my wrap as they advised that the garlic sauce has dairy in it and they recommended I swap it for tahini, which I did & it was so good! I didn't make it for the official Friday grand opening, but the new expansion is open and in use, twice the seating area! The new area's nice, they replaced all the chairs/tables to be consistent throughout plus there's an adorable little kids' table which is, honestly, typical of Omar's thoughtfulness. Food's as good as ever, plus I noticed less plastic/styrofoam in my to-go order, which I love. Every little bit helps! I arrived in the last hour and was greeted as heartily as if I'd been the first customer. There are places I won't go the last TWO hours because the food/service tanks and staff's already checked out in every way but physical. I've never had that happen here. If you've more than the usual faces to feed, I do recommend their catering. I don't do that lightly--I value my money and yours, and when I promise to feed my crowds I intend to NOT disappoint so I don't recommend to strangers unless I have complete faith. They're communicative, very competitively priced, the food's amazing and a Mediterranean menu is honestly a crowd pleaser--this has all held true over several years and I was feeding at least 50 each time. Also, sincere thanks to all you beautiful people who have supported them--so many restaurants don't make it two years but this independent establishment realized its long-awaited goal of expanding even though it's plonked on a far edge of town. Driving out here from New Braunfels I was feeling like I was driving to the middle of nowhere. Then all of the sudden The Pita Shop in a small strip center to the left. I was surprised how much seating it had because from the road it looked like there may not be any seating at all. It was just the opposite and we were able to find a table off to the side. Holy cr*p, when I first tried this restaurant it was out of curiosity. When I arrived at the location I was welcomed with a very friendly staff. The Menu is right out in the front with all the prices clearly labeled. The ambience and music selection was top tier, And we haven't even gotten to the best part yet which the food. I went the a Gyro meal and oh my god we're my expectations met and exceeded. The meat is very delicious along with the bread they use. On top of that the fries have a nice crispy texture and salty flavor which is perfect for a side. The Greek salad really exceptional the Dolmades was really really good, and then the best part; the Gyro. The chicken tikka pita was so filling AND the meat was crumbled vs cubed which made it so that every bite had a good meat to lettuce to pita ratio. Oh my gosh!
