Update: I recently got a shawarma club pita and it was reallllllly good! There's some sort of delicious sauce in the shawarma club pita!

I am Lebanese so I had to try this place being in San Marcos. So many positive reviews. I had my high hopes to finally find the authentic shawarma. Sadly they don't even have the stick of meat and grill. They cook the meat on a flat grill in the kitchen. I was expecting a real strong garlic sauce which wasn't the case. The flavor of the sandwich is not bad... but it isn't a real shawarma. The hummus was just ok too It is a cafeteria style restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. The guys behind the counter were very friendly

If you have not tried the Pita Shop, you are missing out on great quality, delicious food! Hubby tried the Chicken Pita today and gave me a bite. It did not disappoint. You really need to try this food!

I visited here for lunch and was really happy with the upbeat service I received. The food was amazing and if it was a little closer in location to me I would visit much more often.

From the moment we walked in, we knew the food was going to be good. We could tell the people working there loved what they did and the food was cooked from the heart. First bites into my Gyro pita and I was in love! It was so amazing!! No shortage of meat, seasonings, dressing, and vegetables! It was packed and absolutely amazing. I will be back to try more off their menu!

Absolutely delicious. We had the gyro (again) with the yummy fries. The service is warm, super friendly and fast. Tons of people from all walks of life came in, ordered and left while we were there, with a spring in their step and shouts of goodbye and thanks to the owner. The Pita Shop sits in a quirky strip mall on the periphery of Texas State University. It's clear that both faculty and students l-o-v-e this unassuming but homey hole in the wall, including me.

I was down to my last bite when I realized I hadn't taken a picture! It was so so good and the serving size was so filling! We were visiting San Marcos for a hike and were craving something healthy and nutritious, this hit the spot!

Delicious gyro! The pita bread was warm and pillowy soft. Next time I want to also try their bowl. A true local spot that I would definitely check out again. It's not a fancy sit down place and has a more casual vibe. The baba ghanoush and falafel was delicious! The falafels were fried fresh. The service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant was very clean and their bathrooms were spotless. Whoever owns this place I can feel takes pride in their restaurant. The flavors were great!!!

Quick service, nice staff, and delicious food. The man who took our order was so friendly and welcoming, it felt a lot more like a locally owned business then a chain restaurant where you are simply funneled through. My friend and I both got the original gyro which was $9 and so huge!! (It fed me for about 2 meals so totally worth the price) One of the best pitas I've had and I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something new in San Marcos!!

    What are some vegan options?

Falafel pita, garden pita, build-your-own-rice bowl with falafel/tahini, dolmas (my fave), hummus, baba ganouj, and although I don't promote French fries generally, I must admit they have the best seasoned fries in town. Their menu's online.

Is this by any chance the same owner/shop as Wrap it Up? I used to go there WEEKLY when I was in college! We'll have to come check it out! Everything looks delicious!

The meat is seasoned and hits the spot every time - it doesn't matter what meat you get because it is all great! Tons of variation on their menu. I love getting the bowls with their various pickled veggies for the contrast in tastes. Dolma is delicious, the kebabs are delicious, the fries loaded with deliciousness are in fact delicious, and the prices for all dishes are very reasonable. Food can take a little longer, but only because the food is cooked fresh to order and not sitting in a metal container overcooking. Their pitas are stuffed to a brim with toppings and meat, and I could eat their hummus all day every day. Every time we come to San Marcos I have to try to force myself to try something new - it's hard, but we always find ourselves back at Halal Project happily full every time.

The veggies were, as always, beautiful and fresh. Halfway through I did remark to Mr R that Halal Project definitely has more flavor than Taziki, and he agreed. It did take a little longer than expected (mostly noticeable bc it's a day we had a plane to catch) but not outrageous and the results were indisputably worth it. Love to whoever wrapped these gyros sturdily enough to make eating them in the car NOT a complete disaster; we will continue to enjoy this local delight.

I was glad we were seated outside though because even though it was a warm evening, their fans were very effective creating a constant gentle breeze. The music enhanced the experience with a fun and upbeat vibe. I truly felt like was sitting at club/bar/restaurant during a cool summer night in Greece! Just incredible. The staff were also great! Friendly and accommodating from the time we checked in for our reservation. Our server was super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with my gluten sensitivity! The food was delicious too. Shout out to the chefs! The village salad (also reminded me of a traditional Greek village salad) was refreshing, the hot honey halloumi was like nothing I have ever tasted before, I regret not ordering extra to-go!, the Lamb chops made me feel like we were celebrating Easter - the seasoning was spot on and cooked to perfection, the Lamb and beef kefta with rice was also tasty, but the lamb chops are the clear winner. Don't forget to get dessert! If you have a gluten sensitivity like me, you are safe with the Pistachio Panna Cotta. It was a flavor high I didn't want to end! Lol. But seriously, it was super delicious, sweet, and just the right portion. Also FYI: we shared every plate. It's the way to go there, and I'm glad our server recommended that we order everything up front and they simply bring it out as each plate is ready. (Except for dessert and drinks - order those at the appropriate times of course). Speaking of our server, Lauren S, she was on it!!! Not only was she able to serve us and other tables extremely well, there was also a very large party of around 15 people next to us that she also served. Yet she always seemed to be around when you needed her and always with a friendly smile and positive attitude. Shout out to Lauren!!! You were amazing. Thank you for making our anniversary dinner memorable. Can't wait to visit Aba again!

The indoor space flows nicely with the outdoors and feels trendy and polished without being overly formal. Parking is the typical South Congress challenge. There's access to the Music Lane underground garage (with a small validation discount from the restaurant) plus nearby paid lots and street options, but it can feel competitive and a bit chaotic, especially on busier evenings. Plan ahead or use rideshare if you can. Service was great--attentive and smooth throughout our meal with two adults and two kids. We ordered the whipped feta spread (excellent with the pistachios and oil; the house bread was a bit salty), Brussels sprouts (cooked perfectly), grilled chicken kebabs, the shawarma-spiced steak frites, and the grilled Branzino. The Branzino was the clear star of the show--flavorful and well-executed. The chicken and steak were mediocre at best. For dessert we shared the sticky date cake, which had a nice crunch outside and was warm and moist inside. It's a bit pricey (we paid over $240 for the four of us), but the setting, strong service, and that excellent Branzino make it worthwhile. I'd definitely come back.

Mr R had a falafel wrap with rice and I finally tried their avgolemono (chicken rice lemon soup) and made it a meal with a Mediterranean salad. Also got the spicy harissa hummus to start with veggies for dipping (at an upcharge from the standard choice of baked or soft pita wedges). The veggies for dipping had the usual carrots and celery but also included cucumber, yellow squash, and a pinch of pickled pepper and black olives. Ma surprised us by digging in and the three of us were happy polishing that plate off. Avgolemono was good, and certainly generous on the chicken. Friendly young man came by to ask how the meal was and take some empty plates away. They've always been easy about takeaway boxes and bags when we can't finish the portions, and I got a piece of baklava to go. Forgot to say I also tried their new mint tea, which is a great option in the summer heat and I hope they keep it around. We're usually here at opening/lunch, but this visit was 6:30pm on a Sunday and I saw zero difference in the cleanliness, food quality, or polite service. Some places you can't risk the last few hours of business because at least one of those will have imploded by then, but Taziki's has proven consistent.
