However, the company struggles with organization on medium-sized projects, particularly regarding supplier coordination and communication. Customer service with Melissa did not meet expectations, as I had to proactively follow up via text and web messaging to get answers. I was also disappointed when Scott, who was a key reason I chose this company, became defensive instead of understanding challenges and the sequence-of-events. I had to manage and seek when vendors were coming out and when they arrived in the wrong order and at the wrong time. The pool materials was left out and the pool was left without chemicals and filter running with fresh water for 1.5 weeks. While I recognize it wasn't their responsibility to add chemicals; it should have been communicated and at least in working condition but they didn't want to come out again after they refilled the pool until Pentair technician came out to avoid another trip. While they pointed to my schedule, I was only referring to the programming portion as I communicated, not the critical need to get the system running immediately after filling the pool. I understand everyone is busy, but I suggest Scott seeks to understand the client's perspective before responding in such a manner to get folks on the same page. A positive shout-out to Lee, who is a Pentair whiz and was super helpful.

We ultimately chose 4M Specialties. This company has been family owned and doing business in the area for over 30 years (receiving top ratings from the BBB). While 4M was not the cheapest (maybe slightly below average), Mike (Miguel) and Jorge took the most interest in understanding our needs/desires and demonstrated/communicated the greatest knowledge (from years of hands-on experience). Our experience was fantastic in terms of knowledge of the trade/skills, quality of work, and customer care as compared to the contractors my wife and I have worked with over the last 40 years. This experience began with initial project scoping and continued through materials selection (e.g., grout color), design options (accent tile placements), project execution and clean-up (by the crews), and final walk-thru (to ensure our complete satisfaction). Although phone responses were initially not as timely as we would have liked, we found that this was never an issue once the project began -- Mike provides nearly immediate response to texts whenever he is not on site. As for the work crews themselves, extremely polite and considerate. Whenever we had any questions during the process, the supervisors addressed them immediately. Each member of the various trade crews was respectful of our landscape and property, and never left for the day without a thorough cleanup of the work site (all of the 4M employees we met had been with the company for 15+ years). We highly recommend 4M Specialties and will call upon 4M again when we replace our bedroom/bath flooring with tiling!
