Yuppi is alright with me! Located inside a vibrant convenience store in Ybor. I had my order taken and even got a suggestion on a side to choose. My order took about 10 minutes but the wait was worth it. The original Yuppi Wings were hot, crispy and succulent. I'm sure the crunch shook the ground. So I been hearing about this establishment for some time now. People raving about the wings, telling me you need to go so can write a review. Yesterday was the day. Basically it's your local corner store split with this wing establishment sharing the same space. It's in the middle of Ybor city #IYKYK that Ybor is a mixed crowd with chickens and roosters all over. I put in my order a 15 minute wait, no seating you have a choice of taking it home or some of the local bars let you bring your own food in. I end up ordering the popular wings with the yuppi sauce mixed in. Wasn't impressed, no seasoning no flavor unless you order the sauces, which Basically that is your seasoning. I will say the wings were cooked well. This is why I don't follow the hype. The hype up will get you a seasonal hype but then it's over like that. This establishment can try seasoning so you won't need the sauce as the lead of there wings. But from what I saw I give this establishment another 2 years till the next hype comes in. Visited the Yuppi location in YBOR after realizing the food truck in Brandon was no longer open. I first tried YUPPI as part of an Elite experience and the wings were so Amazing! Flavor was excellent. This visit fell a little short as I felt like the wings were not crispy enough possibly because they are HUGE. Everyone I know goes for the wings, but for those of us that don't eat wings, there's shrimp and catfish (don't stress yourself out and just order both because, yes it's that amazing). The portions are pretty big, even for the sides, so it's worth the price point. They are so crunchy but a medium not thick batter. FLAVOR oh my goodness, 10/10 It was a 15-20 minute wait when I walked up. The wings are made to order. I saw alot of people come get their call-ahead orders, I would do the same next time. Probably call and place your order when you're 15 min away. 10 wings is $20 and includes fries. The fried shrimp was also delicious and huge. But the shrimp get soft quickly compared to the wings which tasted crunchy even 30 min after you pick it up. Sides: recommend cornbread and potato salad! They run out of their cornbread by 8pm. The mac n cheese was not cheesy and lacked flavor. I would not get this again. And don't forget to grab a bread pudding! The staff was very courteous and grateful for the support. The food was very flavorful. I went with the special which included wings, shrimp, Mac and fries. They're located in a food truck next-door to the car wash on 78th St. with outdoor seating (shaded picnic tables) and a truckside shaded area to wait in line. They made sure to have parking in the back grassy lot. I fell in love with the spicy wings right away! Those are my favorite entrée here. Their spicy wings can be described as not really that spicy, but more like a tasty sweet heat. It's similar to a sweet Thai chili sauce, but with different seasonings. A good second would be their fried catfish (good with hot sauce in my opinion). The baked mac & cheese, collard greens, and country potato salad are good to. That banana pudding blew mind and is my favorite dessert from here! Needless to say, it was bussin! Let's get into it. I had seen so many Instagram posts about it and since I live overseas, it had to wait for my summer stateside visit. I raved about it to my family and my cousin said someone she follows on Tik Tok also said it was great, so we made it a family trip. We took ours home and the styrofoam container did no justice to fries as they became soggy...its science...not their fault. There was an employee smoking outside and then back into food truck to prepare food. I have nothing against smoking and I assume he washes hands but I just don't like the visual appeal so maybe smoke break could be out of sight. I ordered the Wing and Shrimp combo. I wanted collard greens as my side but they were out which was very disappointing as it was the start of their opening time so not sure why they didnt have any....not to mention they open late in the day so you would assume they could stock. I got the mac and cheese instead and it had a heavy garlic taste and very oily...I would not order it again. The honey cornbread is definitely box Jiffy. But you get a HUGE piece, enough to share or eat for days. We ordered what was listed as homemade ranch but it was just Ken's Ranch packet. The chicken was seasoned well and very crispy but the Yuppi sauce was not for my taste buds. The squeeze of lime does help. I'd opt to get them plain next time. Those that arent sure, just get sauce on the side. Shrimp was large and also fried to perfection. Also note, if u don't eat them all and you try to reheat...it will burn because of the honey in the sauce. I do not eat potato salad but my family did enjoy it. They also have their own homemade lemonade which was super delicious (I tried the watermelon one). As for the food, I love sweet and savory flavored foods, and these wings where exactly that! Yuppi, formerly known as Black Chef Eatery has earned wayyy more than one visit from me. It's on the far end of the 7th Avenue strip in Ybor away from most of the action in a small convenience store so its very easy to miss if you're not actively looking for it. My go to order is usually the $25 combo with both catfish and shrimp and 2 sides. I'm typically not a fan of sweet and savory combos but i guess they've found the cheat code for my taste buds because I've gotten out of my bed after midnight to drive to Ybor for an order. I got to meet the owners on this visit and they were so sweet and welcoming of any feedback they could get for improvement. This type of genuine concern for the customer's experience is what makes customers still choose to return even if they do have a bad experience at some point because you know they care. Yuppi is a small (for now) family owned business that I have LOVED since they were in Ybor, I was so sad when they moved because the new location was a little far from me however I made my way to them on a Sunday evening and I was so happy to be back! The food here is amazing, I always have an issue deciding what to order because so far I haven't had anything that I haven't loved. The wings always packed with flavor, crisp on the outside. I could eat just the sides, the greens are fresh and have pieces of the smoked turkey, potato salad creamy and no words for the Mac n cheese, you just have to come and try it. The banana pudding is one of my favorites ever, its fluffy and topped with chessman cookies. The owners of Yuppi take great pride in their food and don't overlook service, always making me feel welcomed and making sure I have everything I need.
