Had really hoped for breakfast, but was a little too late for it. But the kitchen was kind enough to add an egg to my bologna sandwich, which was a happy medium for me. So service was great. Fun little eatery we stopped at on our way from Mammoth Cave,Ky. Nothing fancy but some interesting choices. A very local place but seems to get traffic from others traveling from the cave. Breakfast served until 11 on Sunday. Choices for lunch included sandwiches, pastas, salads and chicken with sides, pies for dessert. Service no nonsense in this very casual restaurant. What a great little place! My husband and I stopped here after spending a few hours hiking at Mammoth Cave. We stayed in Glasgow to see a bluegrass concert at The Grove (highly recommend), so the Blue Holler Cafe was actually out of our way. We liked the reviews and love a good schnitzel, so we decided it was worth checking out. Boy, are we glad we did! Ms Claudia is more charming than the restaurant, and her food is delicious. The schnitzel was seasoned perfectly, tender, and crispy. We both enjoyed the German style potato salad and kraut (with caraway seed). We even started with a pretzel. I'm usually one to bring leftovers home from a restaurant, but everything was so yummy that I didn't leave a scrap of food behind. So delighted to see that Blue Holler is on Yelp and getting great reviews. I couldn't get service when we were there to check-in. Per the name and hillbilly taco special on the table, I was leaning in that direction for my order, until I heard the chef's German accent. So glad I ordered schnitzel. And the German potato salad was super. Even though the side of green beans didn't appear to be made from fresh beans, the seasoning made up for it. My husband was delighted with his enormous serving of country fried steak and the boys like ALL of their food, too! Two thumbs up. Grabbed lunch in the afternoon on their first day back open for the 2021 season. Was past their rush, so had time to chat with Harry after our meals were ready. Lasagna (w/side salad and garlic toast) was the special of the day and we also got the jager (mushroom gravy topped) schnitzel with fries. Will have try the currywurst some time. Will remember next time to grab a pretzel, ask about the day's soup too. Different specials each day. Check their Facebook page for the schedule of the week. Service was decently fast, but I think if there wasn't a huge group ahead of me it would have been a lot faster. If you are looking for a restaurant that offers a taste of a different culture, then Blue Holler is it. This small cafe is bringing a slice of Deutschland to Kentucky, but don't worry, they also have American-based dishes avaialble. The restaurant is just a short drive from Mammoth Cave NP and has a very beautiful view of the park on its outside balcony. However, it's not currently open to dining outside due to staff shortages. Our server was very welcoming. The decor is also a hodgepodge of German and American trinkets. We ordered the Shrimp Basket, Chicken Fried Steak, Jager Schnitzel, and Zigeuner Schnitzel. The portions were perfect and we even took some home to enjoy on another day of our trip. A small note to out-of-town visitors is that this county is a dry county meaning alcohol sales are prohibited. If you're in the area and hungry, this cafe will fill your stomach happy. read more

I'm so happy we stumbled into this place after our Mammoth Cave NP hike was cut short by a rain storm. They have a great covered back patio with a view over the NP hills. The food was delicious and really as German as you can find it in the US (speaking from experience as a German citizen). My American husband claimed it was the best Sauerkraut he has ever had (wth - don't tell my grandma). The couple owning the place is welcoming and up for a chat. Drove 40 minutes to this hidden gem and it was totally worth the hike from cave city. At first we were a little skeptical but then we were greeted by a very friendly waitress. My partner had the pork loin and I had the zesty Italian soup. Both were very delicious! If we weren't going back home to Illinois that day, we would have definitely came back for more! I must admit, as we pulled up and read the name Blue Holler, I thought that it was going to be a place where you'd find an Aunt Bea. Even from the outside it kinda looks like something that you would find in Mayberry. When we sat down and was greeted by the German owner, I was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely fell in love with this place. There was a table of locals, and a table of chatty tourists. The tourists raved about every time that they come there, everything is perfect. The owner told us that he built the place himself, continuously keeps it clean and maintains a 100% from the health inspector. He urged us to step out on the back deck area and watch the fog rise top over the gorgeous mountains. It was breathtaking. The back deck is also a patio dining area, but nobody was eating out there because it was early, breakfast time. I started out with a tea, a perfectly brewed tea, I must add. Then I ordered Claudia's Favorite. Everything came out fast, hot and perfectly cooked. On Saturday and Sundays they have a breakfast buffet. I must say that if everything on the buffet is as good as my meal, I would have to wear stretchy pants... so it's probably a good thing that I stick with Claudia's Favorite. I looked at the lunch/dinner menu and it looks great. The options are about half German and half American. I can't comment on that menu, because I was only there for breakfast.
