We were very pleasantly surprised with this restaurant in the NP lodge. Good thing we liked it because we had dinner then breakfast and lunch the next day. The staff were great- very friendly and helpful. Emma was a standout. She's got that customer service thing down to a science. For dinner I got the grilled shrimp and they were delicious. Served with a side of choice (green beans for me). Hubs got chicken wings and the strawberry salad. Both were very good. I helped with salad so I know. If you are a wine snob then order one of their cocktails. Great cocktails on the menu. I sampled chocolate martini the next night after we dined in Park City. But the first night I had Chardonnay- a bit too sweet but I managed to drink it. Their breakfast is a buffet for $14ish. They had eggs, bacon, sausage (fresh made), pancakes, some fruit and yogurt. After a 3 hour walking tour, this place was nice to stop, have a snack amd recoup before getting back on the road. We were seated immediately, and service was swift. Complimentary mini biscuits were very very good! Hubby had the recommended ale, he said it was good. I had the adult grilled cheese with onion rings. Both also good. My kiddo had the niagra ice cream, which was a brownie with ice cream and a fruit topping. Based on how quickly it disappeared, i think it was a winner. Came here in the middle of our day at Mammoth Cave National Park. A nice little sit-down bistro looking place in the middle of the lodge there that was going through some pretty significant renovation. The place is gonna look real nice once it's done. Service was great. Very nice, attentive server who kept my soda cup filled. And the food came out very promptly. We were also surprised that they had a better-than-expected beer selection. So look into that, if you're interested. As for food, it was exactly what we needed at the exact quality we wanted, if not a little better. I got the titular Mammoth Burger (1/2 lb. Ground Beef Patty, Smoked Cheddar, Bacon, Caramelized Onions, Sauteed Mushrooms, Mammoth Sauce). What a dang solid burger. A nice sized, well charred patty, a nice strong slice of cheddar, an actual good amount of bacon, mushrooms and onions adding a nice bite and umami, and the mammoth sauce, which was a nice, creamy, almost ranch type of sauce. A very nice burger indeed. I also got to try the hilariously named Grown Up Grilled Cheese (Cheddar, Swiss, Mozzarella, Bacon, Tomatoes, Grilled Sourdough Bread). Very crispy sourdough, which was key to the whole sandwich. Triple melty cheeses, bacon and tomatoes to make it interesting and add the much needed acid. A really nice sandwich. Overall, this place isn't in the running for a Michelin Star, but for a rather desolate National Park, I was shocked at how good the food was, and I would totally recommend this place. read more

Really the only thing going for the Green River Grill is that it's in the lodge at the national park. If you didn't pack in a meal or if you don't want to drive back to Cave City, this is your only option. It feels more like a cafeteria than a restaurant, but there is table service. Our waiter was great - friendly, quick, and polite. The restaurant is clean but has zero ambience. Again, if I didn't know better I would think I was in a hospital cafeteria. I had the Cave Burger and fries. It was fine. The bun looks like it came from a grocery store's bread brand, but the burger itself was goodish. My wife had the special, which was a pulled pork sandwich. Again, it was served on a cheap store brand bun. The pork was ok, but not great. I wasn't expecting much, and that's what I got. read more

We were seated on a boring restaurant with a view of the parking lot. What made the grill were the poster size black & white photographs about the caves on the walls. If you have any love for yourself then do not order the Kentucky hot brown. Literally a soggy piece of bread topped with lunch meat, two random tomato slices and bacon, and you can't forget the cheese slop!! That part really brought the whole dish together going from just nasty to putrid! My husband also had the trout but with a loaded baked potato which he was happy with. While the ambiance is a little lacking, the service here was absolutely amazing and the servers were super friendly. We actually ended up eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner here because we're staying in the cottages here and this was one of the few food options. All three meals were great and they have different menus for each meal. Breakfast was a $15 buffet and the other two meals were table service. Everything was tasteless, overly cheesed, soggy (flat bread was literally a goop of bread smothered in cheese) and even the fries were cold. The service was mediocre and even got my drink wrong, and the food took forever to come out. I don't know why, since it looked like gas station food that had been microwaved. Next time I will save myself $50 bucks and go to the Quick stop or 7-11 for this quality. Yuck. Don't expect much, because you won't get it. The food was not good at all. Fried chicken had an off taste, was dry and had an over cooked crust. Meatloaf was lukewarm. They were out of coleslaw and lemonade. There was a very limited menu with 9 choices for an entree. Prices were very high for the poor quality food. Hours were limited. Prices were very high for what we got. The grill was only open from 5-7 PM the evening we went for dinner. The main reason we went here is that we were hungry after a 2 hour Mammoth Cave tour and there were no nearby restaurants. The food on the other hand...did not compare. Most of the side dishes were from a can (and bland) or clearly not homemade (store bought). The meatloaf was so mushy and the fried chicken over breaded and pre-cooked. We were the first ones to arrive when the restaurant opened and our homestyle meals came out to us 10 minutes later.... So clearly not fresh. The menu was small enough... they need to look at offering more freshly cooked/made to order plates for the price. If we stay here again, we would venture out to the nearby city for dinner rather than eat here. read more

They had something on the menu called a "Hot Brown" which the waitress explained was a classic Louisville open face sandwich and one of their specialties. I ordered one. Everyone else in my group ordered something else with most opting for a burger. Judging from my experience and their comments, you would do well to stick to the burger. So, the question is, do you eat here and the answer is simple. If you're not at the caves then there's no reason to drive all the way here. The food is old fashioned, with some buttery mashed potatoes and soggy green beans as sides for chicken, catfish, etc. Beer and wine choices are ok. Breakfast is what this establishment does best, with a nice selection of fruit, meats, cereals, and also chef who will make you a custom order omelette. Had three meals here during my stay at the park, 2 dinner, 1 lunch. I got a vegetable wrap for lunch which was pretty standard. It had spinach, tomato, carrots, cucumber and a light shmear of avocado and hummus. I'd suggest the kitchen use a heavier hand so you know they're there. It came with fries. For dinner you get complimentary buttermilk biscuits and they are the bomb. I had the vegetable platter and loved it so much I ordered it the second night. The veg platter probably changes with the seasons, but here's what I had for reference. Asparagus, Brussel sprouts, succotash, green beans, butter beans, field peas, grits and sweet potato hash. We had 4 meals here (2 lunches and 2 dinners) during our stay at mammoth cave. Of what we tried the chicken salad was the best-unfortunately we found a big piece of plastic in one of the salads, but our waiter Danny was very apologetic and did not charge us. We also tried the chicken wings which were really something to call home about! The fried chicken was quite dry and we overheard the table next to us send it back due to the dryness. One of our waitresses 'Kenny' was the best waitress I have had in a long time! She was very welcoming and embodied southern hospitality! Kenny overheard us debating which ice cream flavor to split and brought me my own taste of chocolate since my selection was not ordered! Pleasantly surprised. I was a bit hesitant due to couple reviews I read. However looking back I realized both bad reviews was from an individual who seemed to be "Hard to please". Haha that was her motto on her profile. Anyway my family and I went to the 0900 Historic Extended tour of Mammoth Cave and we thoroughly enjoyed it. With that said we were starving after so I decided to go here anyways. We all ordered different things on the menu. Needless to say the food was very good and the service was excellent. I would recommend this place especially after a long tour of the cave. To make it even better there is an ice cream shop just outside the restaurant. read more

Came to this restaurant for lunch after 2hrs cave tour. We ordered fried green tomatoes for appetizer, BBQ beef brisket sliders and blackened catfish po boy. The sliders were actually appetizers but the portion are perfect for lunch. The BBQ briskets were soft and full of flavor. The sweet BBQ sauce has hint of caramelized onion and cheese added another dimension of yumminess to the sliders. A little drop of pepper sauce made us forget the long 2hrs hike in an instant! The fried green tomatoes has enough freshness enveloped in deep fried corn bread flour was tangy with slight crunch. Dip that fried green tomatoes in their remoulade sauce really bring out it flavor. The blackened catfish po boy served with iceberg lettuce, tomato, and Creole remoulade sauce is OK, not that special. But if the catfish has deeper Cajun seasoned to make it flavor stands out from lettuce and tomato, it will be better po boy! Drop a star for the blackened catfish and a tad pricy. read more

It started off okay but then service became increasingly slow, and our food came out in the wrong order (main dish first and salad after). The bourbon wings were tasty. My harvest (?) salad was okay. My husband's chili needed more flavor. My son's cheeseburger was sad, but the fries were decent when hot. The waitress did apologize for being patient, so that was nice.
