A Marin county staple for over 25 years. Sam's store literally helped me learn to read as a child. Special orders are welcome, and the crew there is knowledgeable, honest and passionate. This place is old school, kids, way before the Disney/Marvel films made it cool to love comics. Plenty of "off brand" material, and I have never ran across anything that they couldn't find me in under a fort night. read more

So happy that Marin has a comic shop to go to! Much improved from their days in the backwater of Novato, the new 4th street location has much more space, much better light, and more inventory. My big complaint typically with comic shops is that they're small, disorganized, and hard to find anythoing in. Thankfully, Blue Moon has things well set up, organized, a place in the front window to actually sit and chill out for a bit, and even alphabetized on top of all that. Nice selection of trades, my preferred reading matter these days, and hardcovers, as well as single issues (which i pay less attention but i konw that some people still do) In addition, they bring in music as well! Been to two of the events and had a great time, wish that more people could figure it out. Excelling bands, funk and rock on different occasions, and the set up of the shop makes the music sound really good, unlike some bars that i've heard bands at. Blue Moon comics, a true gem. Sam's passion and expertise, unrivaled and darn near impossible to find anywhere else, of comics is inspiring and alone worth visiting the store to experience. His love for Independent Artists and his dedication to an art form, that has become challenged by censorship and threatened by technological advances in computer Imaging, reflect deeply in his shop. His walls are like an exhibit at an art gallery. Hand drawn pieces expressing gratdtude to the shop. A gratitute in Pdoubtlyhelf in his When I was 8 years old, I bought my first deck of Magic the Gathering, a collectible Trading Card Game, from Sam. He was then, as he is now, full of humor and humble wit. In the entire time i have known Sam and have been coming through his shop, i have seen nothing less than a genuine respect, willingness to share and educate as well as gratetude for his customer. I had tried many times before to get into comics, but I never could, which was probably due to the fact that I never really looked for a comic book store. I was digging through some old boxes in my room the other day as I was packing to leave for college and I found an old Star Wars comic rendition of The Empire Strikes Back. I flipped through it and was so fascinated that I felt a need to get more comics. I searched for the nearest comic book store and found Blue Moon Comics in San Rafael. I picked up a friend the next day and we bought $30 of comics each. The owner of the store is incredibly nice and helpful. This store has caused me to fall in love with comics and I can't wait to come back and buy some more! read more

I first went here over 10 years ago when they were up in novato just getting back into magic and the owner sat down and helped catch me up on some of the newer cards introduced. They host free comic days, magic events, they're always giving back to the community. A small but great shop, my favorite in the Bay Area. The owner and staff are well-informed, friendly, and passionate about comics. Sam does hold lists and custom orders and keeps a selection of graphic novels and memorabilia in stock as well. Highly recommended! This shop probably keeps me in the hobby, I doubt I would drive that far out of my way for a different store, even if Blue Moon wasn't there. read more

Cheap reliable magic cards. Sam is a player, knows what's up, and will talk with you for hours about everything and anything. He keeps stocked, has good binders, and supports the wee ones in the community. A great place in Novato. read more

The owner (Sam) is a really cool guy. Every month Sam will let me choose items from the catalog that he will order and hold for me, which saves me from having to shop around. It is also fairly close to work, which makes it easy to stop by during lunch. read more

This is by-far my favorite comic shop in Marin/Sonoma county area. Sam is great! He keeps up great relationships with his regulars and makes noobs (like me a few years ago) feel welcome from the get-go. They're willing to order for you as necessary but always seem to have enough to go around (except when Fed-Ex plays field hockey with their boxes). Stock is in great shape, not crowded and smooshed in like some another local store. Free Comic Book day is third only to Wondercon and Christmas. New comic lunches on Wednesdays at Blue Moon help mark the "hump" day of the week and it's all downhill from there! read more

Such a great experience, even from my first days of going there for Free Comic Book Day when they were still in Novato. When I was a kid, most comic store owners would ignore me, and plenty were openly hostile. Sam & co. are super nice and engaging with everyone, especially kids. They'll talk to them about what they like in terms of comics, but they'll also just chat with them about school and their lives in general. Just a bunch of sweethearts. I really only collect a few comics in paper, and they carry some of them, but the true value in this store is in the people who work there. The owner is more often than not the one working, so if you want to support local, you can't do better than this. I wasn't a fan of the Novato location, but I really like the San Rafael one. There is parking on the street, as well as a lot just before the store. They have a good selection of other things in addition to comics. My favorite of which is Magic the Gathering singles. They are frequently cheaper than buying online, and browsing the binders is so much easier. It's also nice being able to talk to people who clearly make comics and Magic their past time as well as their job. They also learn what you are interested in and steer you towards great finds (like signed editions!) so you can end up with some real treasures. read more

This comic book shop is awesome! I really like how the back issues are separated out by DC and Marvel. Speaking of back issues, there is quite a selection available that is full of variety. I was also impressed with the comprehensive list of current issues in stock whether it was the DC new 52 series or the Marvel selections not to mention the indi brands as well. While I was there I bought some bags and boards as well as a new cardboard comic box. It's great that the shop had these necessary items in stock. Finally, I want to say that I enjoyed talking with Sam the guy who runs the place. He is friendly, helpful, and full of useful information. I will definitely make the trip back there from the City more often now that I discovered just how cool it is. read more

Recently got back in to comics after not reading a book for many years. I made my way to 4th street to Blue Moon Comics and it was a pleasant experience. The staff was friendly, courteous and very knowledgeable. Sam, the owner, is very passionate about comic books and once you get to know him and the staff, you will find yourself greeted on a first name basis and immersed in super hero talk. Once you reach 7 regular comic books you would like to read, you can add them to your pull list and can come in at your leisure to pick up your books every week. Or, get there early as books sell out fast due to their large client base! If you are thinking of getting back into comics, or introducing someone to the creative medium, do it at Blue Moon Comics! Blue Moon Comics has served my comic needs for years before Brian's Comics came to Petaluma. They have a great back-order selection and every time I go I always find some old books that I never had the chance to buy. They are also a great spot for Magic the Gathering players and offer individual cards for sale from almost every set. I am glad they moved to a bigger location with more walk-in traffic and I will continue to go there whenever I can. read more

I love this place and am proud to say I am a regular. Sam, Steve and Ryan are very approachable and extremely kid-friendly. They took the time to help my kids when they were learning "Magic" and, I'm happy to say, insisted that the kids understand the properties of each card (rather than just like the picture or level) before they could buy the card! They won't push unnecessary things on the kids or me just to make a buck. They have a large selection of comics. They are able to inform me about new comics coming out that I might like - and they've been right each time.
