What a wonderful time we had at the Blue Note! We were a group of 22 who enjoyed the intimate atmosphere and the really delicious dinners. Among us we probably ordered almost everything on the menu. The heirloom tomato salad, Caesar salad, the guacamole and homemade chips, the cheese platter, the brussel sprouts, pureed potatoes, the ribs, the halibut, the scallops, the pork chop, the octopus appetizer and much more - all served by very pleasant and accommodating servers! Plus, we had some vegans and vegetarians along who were well-provided for. Did I mention the desserts? Some folks ordered them first! The peanut butter dark choc mousse cake, lavender creme brulee, warm apple pie...were beyond expectation...really. The featured music was Al Jardine [one of the Beach Boys founders] and his son who wowed the crowd with great tunes from everyone's memory bank...Overall, the venue has simply charming decor - the food was great - the atmosphere welcoming. read more

I love the idea of a great music venue in Napa and love the shows - but perhaps if they switched the staff, chef, and leadership I'd go back. While the Blue Note is currently in its infancy, the staff is knowledgeable and eager to please. They offer a wide variety of food that is high quality and fairly priced. There are some very impressive aspects to Napa's newest live music venue. I've lived in Napa for quite a while and have seen this location go through a number of iterations. I've spent A LOT of time and money at all of the previous venues. I'm an avid live music goer. I hope Blue Note sticks around...it has a lot to recommend it, but also has its challenges. First of all is the tiered ticket pricing. If you don't feel like spending a bundle of cash, or you're just not sure whether or not you'd be "into" the act, you can pay the lowest tier and sit in the bar area. You can pay more to be closer to the act, or more comfortable in a booth. It's a nice touch. The second "plus" is that the service is far better than it used to be when this was the City Winery...and I say that as a fan of the service at City Winery. Third, the live sound is mixed extraordinarily well for a venue of its size. I was very happy with the clarity of the mix. Fourth is the food. We had a full three-course meal. Everything was good-to-great. The only misstep was the pork loin main course, which was cooked to the high side of medium. Pork loin gets tough when it hits medium, so it wasn't quite as good as it could've been. The potato-and-bacon balls were superb and we could've eaten another 20 of them. Now for the unfavorable aspects: The food prices simply put this place into the "not a good value" range. A single main entree of two smallish pork loin rib-type things over grits was $36. A small bottle of Coke is $4. That's what you're dealing with here. I cannot see myself doing the "main entree" thing here again. Maybe appetizers and dessert, but that would be pushing it. There are too many other good food values nearby to need to pay this amount. I understand you need to cover costs, but this will be a problem for the venue if they continue with this price point. The other MAJOR unfavorable aspect of the locale is that they rent it out for private parties. This means people who MAY or MAY NOT be jazz fans are showing up for their company-paid "dinner and a show". They talk (regardless of what the management says in the announcements) and distract anyone sitting around them. The Blue Note management needs to make a decision: are you going to be a live music venue, or are you going to be an event space? Because you can't service both type of customer. If you're going to insist on being a live music venue for serious live music patrons, you need to put on your big-boy manager pants and tell people to SHUT UP when there is music going on. Jazz has dynamics, and they are ruined by drunk-ass Sheila from accounts payable telling her friend about this cool email she got at the top of her lungs. Nobody cares about drunk-ass Sheila or her email...they care about the music. If you're actually buying a ticket to hear music, ASK IF THERE IS A PRIVATE PARTY BOOKED. Otherwise you'll be bummed out. I will indeed give Blue Note a few more chances because they book good acts and the ticket prices are fairly reasonable. But I'll eat elsewhere until the prices settle down, and I will go somewhere else if it looks like it's an office party. read more

Tables way too cramped. Staff had to interrupt our neighbors in order to pass/clear things from the inner tables where my mom felt trapped and opted to wait for show to end to go to the bathroom. She should not have had to be uncomfortable in order to avoid interrupting others. We might have ordered more, but it was too awkward. The acoustics and the room are nice. Staff was nice given a very difficult situation. Food and drinks were Ok. Many of the options we wanted were unavailable. House beer was no good. read more

Go for the music and NOT the food! Paying Napa prices for Round Table buffet food is only acceptable because of the ambience. Caesar salad is made with mounds of garlic seasoning and salt and the wings are dry and lacking some serious flavor. So, come for the music and eat dinner before! read more

I thoroughly enjoy music and Napa has many options now including the Blue Note. We were very excited about this opening and knowing they have done this all over the world and would make a venue that was fabulous. Well, the music and environment are fabulous, but the seating format is outrageously bad. Long tables with most having their back to the stage and with the tight quarters you cannot turn around. Add to that the headlights that stare at you from the parking lot across the street as they don't have a screen. Overall, this is a sad outcome which had great possibilities. Appreciate the feedback, however, we did arrive early and were required to have one of us sit with out backs to the stage even though the table was empty when we arrived. Still don't understand why the long tables when the typical small round tables in most venues of this sort would be a vast improvement read more

Blue Note is a boutique franchise, famous for intimate gourmet dining and great jazz, with just six clubs in the US, Italy, Japan, and China. My spouse and I were excited to see renowned vibraphonist and composer Jason Marsalis and his Vibes Quartet at a Friday dinner show. The tickets were reasonably priced at $41. The food was really excellent, if pricey ($87 for lamb shank, a vegetarian main, side salads and coffee), and the wait-staff were polite and attentive. The show began as most diners were having their coffee. Unfortunately, a party of four young couples, ten feet from the stage, were oblivious to the performance and talked nonstop over the music, not even quieting when Mr. Marsalis paused between numbers to explain the history and musical structure of the next piece to the audience of jazz aficionados. Patrons all around threw the oblivious noise makers dagger glances, and I felt indignant for the artists receiving such rude treatment. I asked a waiter to find the manager and went to the back of the house to explain the situation to him. The young manager made solicitous noises and volunteered to "have a chat" with the partiers, but instead he disappeared and never returned to the floor, as far as I could see. As I was settling the bill, he sent the waiter to offer us a free glass of wine or desert. I blame the poorly-trained management, not the eight thirty-somethings, for spoiling the evening. The couples were so completely wrapped up in gossiping and joking with one another that I think they assumed the quartet was there only for background music. It is customary at concert halls for the venue host, or sometimes an audio recording, to welcome the audience and remind them to turn off their cell phones, etc. A little friendly but firm opening direction from the house, quickly and unobtrusively enforced, would have made the performers, not a table of loquacious diners, the center of the evening. read more

One word: AMAZING! There is nothing like The Blue Note in Napa or anywhere else within driving distance of Napa. There isn't a bad seat in the Club! You feel like you can reach out and touch the musicians and ... well ... you actually can! The artwork on the walls is three dimensional and perfectly sets the mood. Short ribs were delicious and so was butternut squash soup. Wine list is also superb. We saw Chris Botti at the opening and he was the best possible opening act. Came here for the first time with family to see Kenny G. during his 4-night run in December 2018. The venue is so intimate, like many other reviewers mentioned, you feel like the band is playing right in your livingroom. What surprised me the most (in a very pleasant way) was how good the food was at this venue. My expectations weren't high for the food at a club that specializes in music, but everything we ordered was terrific. We had reserved a table because we had a large group, but even if you don't, there's not a bad seat in the house. Just be sure to line up early as it is first come first serve for seats if you don't reserve a table in advance. What a great place to spend an evening. Live jazz and blues (we caught Laurent Fourgo and his Vintage Jukebox). The food was delicious, the staff was remarkably fun, friendly, and helpful. And even the cheap seats at the bar are still so close to the stage. Great sound system too. I talked to the band (because they're happy to do that at the Blue Note) and they said it was going to be tough going back to their usual sound systems. And make sure you through the doors at the end of the bar and into the Hall of Fame -- it's wallpapered in real sheet music. A beautiful place to spend an evening. read more

After reading the reviews on Yelp, My family and I reserved a booth for 4 at Blue Note ($20 x 4 + 16 handling fee - $96). Expecting to have a great meal with terrific music, we left on a very, very Blue Note. Disappointed. The reviews we read must have been written by the owner's friends. The menu is limited with perhaps 5 entrees to choose from which would have been fine if any of the entrees had been tasty. They were not.... we started with an order of wings which were under cooked. Bit into a raw piece of chicken.... ewwwww I chose the blue cheese hamburger. The burger had no seasoning whatsoever with a large piece of "God knows what" in my first bite. The burger came bare, meaning no lettuce, no tomato, no onion - the usual condiments that one has on their burger. After asking for those condiments, I was told I could not have a tomato as they are "out of season". Really? Pretty sure they can be purchased at the grocery store. I was brought a single leaf of baby lettuce, about 4" long and 1" wide. They must be saving their lettuce. The red onion was days old My daughter ordered the scallops. They smelled bad and tasted worse. Nasty. She didn't eat them. No one else wanted them either after smelling the bad fish smell that wafted from the plate. The short ribs were just average, if that. The French fries were good tho.... really good. Or, we were just hungry If you must, Go somewhere else to eat then go to the Blue Note for French fries and music. The band was pretty good but not good enough to charge $20 as a cover. Too much $ for below par food. Our meal ticket at the end was $260. Add in the $96 ($80+$16 fee) $356 for a horrible meal and average band. Wish we had ended our Napa trip on anything other than a "Blue Note". read more

We attended the Brian Culbertson show Dec 30th and had a fantastic night!! The staff was friendly and helpful. Our server was great. We had the scallops and osso buco, both were delicious! We were asked to sit across from each other at a community style table, at first I thought it was odd but when they explained that it was so everyone could have a chance to view the show, it seemed reasonable. And honestly, once the show started it really didn't matter where we were sitting. We were so close, it felt like we were part of the show! Next time we're in Napa we will definitely visit the Blue Note again! read more

I love that Napa has a venue for both intimate and larger audiences. Most of the nights I've gone, were great. Wine is decent. Foods ok. Actually pretty good for a bar. The manager is another story. He's rough and has an in your face way of handling people. Wine and food is a gentile thing, this man is way too New Jersey. His demeanor is hostile and disrespectful. It's Napa. The venue was groovy and the food (halibut for me, steak for my partner) was perfect! but this review is mostly for Amber, our server. Her wine pairing recommendations were spot-on, and she did an excellent job of checking up on us on a busy night, without checking in TOO much and distracting from the show. I highly recommend the Blue Note for both the club venue and the food. I have purchased tickets 5 times since the opening and wound up eating dinner there every time and the food was consistently excellent. The nice thing is, if you just want appetizers or dessert you can order whatever you like. My favorites would be the soups, desserts, and their short ribs with polenta was to die for. If the chef left I would follow him:). The wine list is very well priced for the area and they have a full bar. Everyone is very helpful and friendly and make an effort to make you feel welcome. You have a choice when you buy tickets of table, bar or booth (4 to 6 guests). First come basis for best seating so if you come early you choose what you like. We usually come early and have dinner. Very intimate venue which I love. The acoustics and the interior design is excellent. I live in the area so I will definitely support this venue. read more

There is no better place to have an incredible music + wine experience in Napa. The intimate venue's decor was classy yet welcoming, and my five senses felt immersed in the scenery. The musicians performing made the most of the venue's size to have a real interactive experience with the audience, not to mention their incredible songs and improvisational jazz skills. We keep going back to the Blue Note. When they first opened, they had great jazz but poor food and service. Then they had excellent food, better service, but bad, loud, non-jazz musicians. Last night we went and heard a great jazz group, Silverstre Martinez Latin Jazz, but the food, drinks and service were horrible. Bartender couldn't make a mojito. His cosmo was just booze and soda == i put lime juice and margarita mix in to make it drinkable. My husband wanted a very sour margarita, but they only had a super sweet mix. Waitress was never around to take orders or serve food and drinks. Menu has changed -- has the chef? Former crispy brussell sprouts were soggy and overly sour. My husband's rare hamburger was was well done. Very disappointing. The place would get 0 stars if it weren't for the great music tonight. (LIne-up of groups in the future not too hot.) read more
