The threats against my family because I didn't like his piano show. This is who you're employing, Makse.
    Kelley C.

This piano "show" felt like getting stuck at a karaoke show with only ONE bad singer. We were unfortunate enough to attend a performance after our dinner at Makse restaurant in Vacaville. One of the two piano players was friendly and talented. Unfortunately, he wasn't the one doing most of the singing and talking. Jason, the other piano player was rude, inexperienced, and not talented. When I say rude, I mean there were request slips on every table to request songs, but he'd only play a request if you put money with your request, and even if you gave him money (and/or bought him alcohol), in addition to paying the cover charge, he didn't KNOW ANY of the songs we requested. We weren't requesting weird songs either, we were requesting top-40 stuff that anybody in his profession should reasonably know ESPECIALLY if you have the gall to DEMAND people pay you PER SONG when you are BAD at singing. It was such a tacky, out of place dynamic for an establishment trying for a high-class atmosphere. I'm not exaggerating when I say you'll hear more talent at a karaoke show, and I'm not a fan of karaoke. I think it's worth noting that there are few reviews. I question their validity as I know for a fact that the good reviews for this business posted on other platforms are fake and/or posted by the untalented piano player himself

The room is small but surprisingly fit two large groups and a few couples. There's a bar plus a few tables and couches. The bartenders are very focused and work hard at their craft. Each cocktail is carefully made to perfection. The list of drinks ranges from light fruity to spirit-forward depending on your taste. We enjoyed: - pomegranate martini: light and fruity, good pomegranate flavor - yuzu lime drop: seasonal for summer only! - the First Lady: strong but smooth; came with a nicely cut ice cube - whiskey sour: classic flavor, executed well The drinks were great but I really wish there was some sort of snack to munch on. Even peanuts or mixed nuts would have been welcome. Adding a small food menu of bar snacks would make me stay longer!

Fantastic Spot To "Pregame" Shows @ Goldfields Next Door…read more SITREP We descended upon the Tack Room an hour before our show for "Ally The Piper" (both the classical AND heavy metal bagpiper extraordinaire) began her show! THE SETUP Goldfields is a charming, rustic country-western stylized saloon that serves up beer at good prices. But we weren't interested in beer and wanted quality cocktails. Hence, our pivot next door to the Tack Room! QUALITY COCKTAILS & DRINKS! The Tack Room specializes an amazing array of martinis, bourbons, and other deLISH cocktail drinks at really really reasonable prices! So this was an excellent choice to chill, thus avoiding the tremendous *noise pollution* we were immediately subjected to upon entering Goldfields an hour later for our show. THE LOWDOWN This is a quality bar with plenty of comfortable seating to relax and have quiet, intimate conversations. So if you and your later friend(s) want some privacy, cocktails at a reasonable price, etc., this is a good way to go.

It's themed around horse racing, but not in an overbearing or... tacky way. The mixologist was delightful and had great recommendations, the lights were dim, and the drinks were all on point. The highlight was the espresso martini, which is among the best I've had. It was reminiscent of the one I had at the Starbucks Roastery in NYC, which is high praise. The other coffee drink that surprised me was the Revolver. I always forget about what a good pairing orange and coffee is, and I'll be taking this one back home with me to try! Every other drink we tried was delicious in some unique way. The Pho drink was savory and surprising, the New York Sour was rich and flavorful, and the Practical Move was refreshing. Will definitely return here after dinner to sip an espresso martini for dessert!

I was the first to walk in around 4ish in the afternoon (they have happy hour!) and I was offered a seat and water quickly. I decided to order the smoked salmon crudo and the gentleman (I think one of the owners?) gave me some pairing suggestions. While that was getting prepared in the kitchen, he offered me a tasting of another white wine on the house, which was so kind! In the picture below... it's most drunk haha but it was a nice amount to taste and sip on. That smoked salmon crudo is SO GOOD. The citrus adds a nice brightness, and I think there was a hint of honey used in the vinaigrette. I was pleasantly surprised and it's easily the best smoked salmon dish I've had in a while! The wine was excellent as well. I was only in for about an hour, maybe an hour and a half before I moved on, but I got to hear regulars come in and greet the owner like old friends. There's a really cool vibe here, with great music and decor, so I really wished I lived closer to visit more often! As I was leaving, I did chat with the gentleman again (complimented him/the wine bar) and he said he hoped that I would come again as he is trying to work with his partners to add more to the menu (the regulars that came in were asking after the gumbo and the brunch, which they were not serving at the time). I definitely hope to visit again and try those other menu items!

The seating options were disappointing as the benches along the wall had no cushioning and the couch we selected instead had flat, sinking cushions. The music was too loud for reasonable discussion with my friend, though the server did lower the volume at my request. I had a tasty flight of sparkling wines and the server gave a speedy, short introduction to the pours. My largest disappointment came with the arrival of the check. Despite signage outside the establishment that implied the opposite, I was informed that wine flights were *not* included in happy hour pricing. I found the messaging exceedingly unclear, and of course, there's no mention of happy hour on the menu nor did the server share the happy hour options when we were seated. It was a disheartening end to a midling experience up until that point. It's not that this place is terrible, it's just not that good and in this economy, that is a must. I will not be returning.

I also enjoyed The Nightcap (vodka, bailey's, cold brew, coffee liqueur). The bartender was very friendly and made the drinks quickly! You can also order food (since it's connected to a restaurant), and we ordered gyoza and shrimp tempura which came out piping hot and were both delicious. Blue neon arches, a huge underwater mural, plush chairs and low tables along the back wall. Worth the detour. Chris was working the bar on his second day and greeted us like a regular. I skipped my usual Manhattan and went with the Smoke Break, bourbon with bitters, smoke and black cherry. He nailed it. That is the one I would order again. Kudos to Chris for making the smoke linger and make the drink taste fantastic. I had this one in Oregon and it was cool but Chris did a better job with his method that really did serious justice to the name. My wife wanted the Cucumber Cooler, but they were out of cucumber. She pivoted to Sauvignon Blanc, and they were out of that too. The wine list runs four whites and four reds, so there is not much room to maneuver if the cocktails are not your thing. Chris read the situation, offered up a Paper Airplane since she wanted something refreshing, and put it on the house. Classic good bartending. It was louder than expected for how few people were in the room. On a Saturday with a DJ, music and dancing, I would guess the volume gets close to a rave. Go Tuesday or Wednesday if you want to hear the person across from you, and you will probably catch them fully stocked. My guess is weekends clean them out. Cocktails run 16 to 18 dollars. There is also a 300 dollar tequila and cognac number called La Maria served in a glass rimmed with gold dust, if you have something to celebrate. Happy hour is Tuesday through Friday, 3 to 5. They are on the ground floor of the Waymark apartments at 121 Pringle Ave with a small patio out front and heaters. Great spot to hang out and talk with friends, and a good pre dinner or post dinner stop rather than a destination for the whole night. When those doors shut you are transported somewhere neat. I would go again.
