Our A/C unit isn't working and called today 7/2 and someone can't come until 7/6 unless we pay the $250 emergency after hours fee. It's 12pm. I shouldn't have to pay an after hours fee when it's not after hours just because you don't have anyone available to do it and almost the holiday. Such BS. And we pay the monthly membership fee. What good is that?! It's just going to get hotter outside too. Not happy and this is unacceptable. Way to treat your paying customers. read more

Signed up for a AC tune up in early May and they scheduled out to late June. I was okay with that as I expected. Then on the day of the service they called me and left an automated message that they had to reschedule due to the heat warning. I called and asked them why they rescheduled me and they said they had people that had no AC needed to be prioritized. So from what I took of that as they get more money for fixing broken AC units than they do tuning up ACs and will push that business off so they can make more money. Then when they chose to reschedule me, they said the soonest was the middle of August. Which is another month and a half out as a customer would you think this is acceptable? I would think not. Sold me on a $20k heat pump / furnace and promised savings from efficiency and rebate. They broke my sliding door during install. 2 months later they did not submit rebate. When rebate submitted, Dakota Electric rejected because they intentionally bypassed Dakota Electric off-peak metering making rebate null. I called 8X. They put me on hold for over 20 minutes. They promised to call back and didn't. Morning of correction, Neil called me to say they received no code violations from city. I explained they bypassed off-peak metering, which violates rebate terms and it's not a safety problem, but makes me pay more per month and had me miss out on rebate. They said would talk to seller and keep crew on my job and then call me back. Crew never showed. No one called. read more

My son had just bought his first house. Blue Ox came out to check the Furnace and AC. they cleaned the outside compressor unit and checked refrigerant pressure, which they reported conformed to manufacturer's specification. I think that almost certainly meant that they didn't actually check it, because the caps on the valves showed no sign of ever having been removed (years of dust and no tool marks). They charged him $500 for basically having a quick look. Two months later he turns on the AC and it doesn't cool due to no refrigerant. He calls them out and they try to sell him a $6000 package of repairs and cleaning. At minimum they would charge him $1800 to just recharge the refrigerant on his small system. They also discovered a gas leak on the gas valve (something that they had checked two months prior). The furnace and AC had been replaced by the previous owner only a few years ago. My son knows very little about these things and the techs definitely tried to take advantage of him. I would advise people to avoid this company. I see Blue Ox has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Make sure to file a complaint if you have had a bad experience as many people rely on BBB ratings. read more

I have had a Bryant Preferred Plus 80w furnace for about 7 years now, and each year there is a problem. Once it was an igniter switch (new unit), then they said my thermostat was the problem, so I bought a new one. Then the furnace failed again with 3-3 code Limit Circuit Fault. They came out again and said they needed to replace "the whole mainboard" which they did for another $800. This morning no heat again and same errors back on furnace. This has been an absolute nightmare. In looking at the thermostat, it was never wired for a 2-stage furnace when it was installed! The "other" wire to go to W2 is just missing, never connected. I have yet another call into them. Update: They (Cody) came out and did a thorough inspection of the previous installers work and cleaned up a bunch of wires. The furnace is now working but I'm waiting on the parts that need to be replaced. Cudo's to Cody for trying to make things better! read more

We had a complete HVAC system installed. What should have taken 1 full day of work, took that and 4 additional part time days. It did not pass the city inspection, therefore we had to arrange a 6 day off of work for them to fix what they did incorrectly. The sales person did a wonderful job ensuring the safety and experience of their company. Completely feel like we were fooled. Concerns with the job: HVAC stop working less than 24 hours installing, pilot not relit therefore causing us to not have hot water, wire was spilt by installers - when it is required to not be spilt. Wrong wires then installed, melted the fuse due to it trying to run and work, not installed correctly with the water heater pipes, so couldn't pass inspection. When I asked for a manager to call me and discuss my concerns, no one called back. After waiting 2 days, I called again. The manager backed his team and gave little support. When the inspection didn't pass and I called to arrange the 6th needed visit - they didn't know what I was talking about. If you are thinking of using this company - I strongly encourage you to choose a different one - this has been nothing but a headache for weeks on end and a very very costly one. read more

We had Blue Ox Heating & Air install a brand new air conditioner just 4-5 months ago, and it has been nothing but problems. The unit keeps blowing fuses and forcing our thermostat to reboot. Their warranty department has been out four times, replacing wiring and control boards, and it's still not working properly. What's worse, they rarely come out the same day when the unit fails, even during dangerous heat warnings. Today, with a heat advisory in effect and two small children at home, our AC is once again not working -- and Blue Ox still hasn't resolved the issue. For a brand new unit, this level of unreliability and slow service is unacceptable. I cannot recommend Blue Ox Heating & Air based on our experience. read more

Had a technician (Zac) come out today for an AC issue and had a great experience. I was hesitant to call a larger HVAC company because I have had bad experiences with them in the past with trying to sell me on repairs/replacements that I know I don't need but the small time HVAC guy I used to use retired, so I gave Blue Ox a shot. Zac was on time, friendly, and highly knowledgeable. He diagnosed the issue immediately and when it turned out to be something I was pretty confident I could tackle myself, didn't try to sell me on some more costly repairs I don't need. He noticed an issue with my water heater that will need some work in the future and made me aware of it. I was shocked to find someone so honest and straight forward working for a larger HVAC company after my previous experiences and will be using Blue Ox for my HVAC needs in the future. Zac is a fantastic representative for the company and gained a loyal future customer through his professionalism and integrity. Highly recommend this service. read more

NO! CROOKS.....$89. for an incorrect diagnosis.. and I waited four days to get it. They told me $it might be as much as $8000 for a new A/C...which we ould include the A coil. Technician came in for a routine furnace maintenance check and tried to sell me a new furnace through the following reasons: 1. He said that my inducer motor was about to fail because the Amp draw was 2.00. The model of the inducer motor was 2.35, so drawing 2.00 is totally normal and well within tolerance. No shaft play, oil leakage, or bearing failure noted, which are actual signs of a failing motor. The inducer motor was healthy but he told me it needed to be replaced and recommended a new furnace versus a new motor. 2. Rust and corrosion on the burner assembly. This was a cosmetic issue - there was no severe flaking or cracking. Some surface corrosion on burners is common in older furnaces -- especially in humid climates or where condensation is present. It doesn't automatically mean your furnace is unsafe or needs to be replaced. If the burner ports are partially blocked by rust, it can cause incomplete combustion, which could raise CO levels. But the tech did not flag combustion issues or CO problems in the report -- the combustion analyzer test was performed (with photo), and Delta T was normal. Therefore, this was nothing more than an attempt by the Blue Ox technician to rip off who he thought was an unsuspecting customer. BEWARE of these fear-based sales tactics. Cancelled my customer loyalty membership program as I don't appreciate being lied to. read more

I had Blue Ox come to check my furnace. When the furnace guy was finished, he asked me to come down stairs to review a couple of things. He didn't say anything about the furnace but said he didn't think the humidifier on the furnace was working but hey could install a new one for $1,500.00. I said I thought that was highHe offered to call his boss and try to get it down to $1,000.00 and apply a $100.00 coupon too. In the meantime I checked the drain tube and could feel water going through so I thought it was workign. (There isn't much to it really just water in that runs into the filter where the heat runs through and excess water goes out the drain tube.) Then he peeked in the box containing the filter and said there was black mold in there. I said I wanted to get another couple of estimates but he told me the offer he made was only good for that day. I passed. Got a new filter, took the humidifier apart. Guess what? No black mold so I installed the new filter, put the humidifier back together all for $20.00. Quite a savings. read more

I had Blue Ox over to fix my furnace that was not igniting at all. Thermostat would call for heat, the blower would come on and then shut down. After their tech check it out, he said it'll cost 400 bucks to fix. I asked how much was parts and labor ? They said Blue Ox does not break down parts and labor. After a couple weeks, the furnaced acted the same way with it shutting down after starting to run. When I tried to call them back, they ignored me. So, I went with a different company. I'll not call Blue Ox in the future. read more

An update to my review. I was contacted by a representative (Mano) from Blue Ox. He wanted to learn more about my experience. He patiently listened while I recapped what happened during their technician's visit. After I was done, he explained a couple of things his technician should have done differently during the visit. He said was disappointed on how it went and said he was going to refund us both the furnace tune up fee and the diagnostic analysis fee. I will never use Legendary Home Services again. I had Dan with Blue Ox Heating and Air come out to replace my furnace and air conditioner after my air conditioner went out. They came and replaced the units. They did a decent job but left leaving my water heater leaking on our floor. When I asked about it, Dan said that it started leaking while they were outside and they never touched the water heater - although they were quick to slap the Paul Bunyan sticker on the water heater. I said that wasn't acceptable and he said, "well what do you want me to do about it? I'm not a plumber." He was reluctant to call Scott, the person who sold me the units to tell him what happened but when he did he told him that it "magically started leaking" and scheduled an appointment for a plumber to come out the next night. They had a plumber come out the next day from Paul Bunyan Plumbing who said it had already been leaking so it cannot be fixed and quoted me $2500 to replace the water heater and offered a 5% "healing the relationship" discount - after trying to push their $20/month Legendary Care Club subscription. I had already gotten a quote from Home Depot and Champion plumbing to replace it for significantly less and ultimately had Champion complete the work. This is not what I call legendary service. I get the water heater was not new, but no matter the age, I expected it to work as it did prior to Blue Ox coming into my home. If the crew noticed a leak before they started doing work and were incapable of completing the work without further damage they should have let us know beforehand before making the problem worse. I also get mistakes happen but if that were the case then own up to it and don't blame "magic" for the leak. read more

Blue Ox Plumbing reset my leaking toilet. $400! Only to have it leak again through the ceiling. I called a different service to evaluate this continuing issue. They remove the toilet to find wood shims. The wood shims were removed a small bump in the floor was reduced to insure the toilet would not rock and the toilet was reset. My service tech said whom ever preformed the previous service using wood shims (which will rot) not a professional service, and was a poor job. read more

I requested an AC "tuneup" per Blue Ox's advertised $49 special. However, the Blue Ox technician did nothing in terms of a tuneup, but instead performed an inordinately lengthy 1 and 1/2 hour inspection of the HVAC. Tuneup v. inspection is not semantics at all, just simply misleading and false advertising by Blue Ox. read more

First of all, when I called I got a foreign person that I was speaking to you so it was hard to understand them. I think they must send calls to a call center overseas. Secondly,I scheduled a service call and was told the fee would be $89. Apparently, that's the fee just for them to knock on my door and show up. That doesn't include doing anything. It turns out that all the service guy had to do to fix my problem was switch my unit off and then back on and I was charged Over $200. I asked why it wasn't the $19 fee and he explained that this fee does not include them doing anything - that fee is for them to come to my house, not fix anything. I feel like I was not told us upfront and I'm very disappointed. The only reason this is getting two stars and not one is it the guy who came was friendly and did fix my problem. read more

I recently had my A/C go out in the peak of summer, and had to call for service. Angel came out to investigate, and my outstanding experience with him on both this and previous calls inspired me to write this review. Although I'm an engineer now and haven't been customer-facing for six years or so, I was a service technician and engineer in the IT industry for about 15 years and I've found that the technical diagnostic/assessment process is very much the same although the systems we may be working on are very different. And I have worked with a great many technicians from various industries over the years, as a coworker, a customer, and a manager. So when I say that Angel stands out *prominently* to me as one of the best technicians I have ever encountered in the customer service arena, I cannot emphasize enough that this is a *very* high bar. I do not generally take the time to write individual feedback for technicians, and I certainly have never written feedback this glowing (or this lengthy) before. But Angel has been out to service my furnace multiple times now, and he has *always* impressed me with his friendliness, his compassion, his diligence, and his happiness to share knowledge. When my A/C stopped cooling the house effectively this summer and I called Blue Ox regarding this project, Angel came out to diagnose. I had already done my own due diligence within my capabilities, and had researched the symptoms and potential diagnoses. Angel ran me through his troubleshooting process, helped me understand exactly what was going on and why, and gave me valuable knowledge that I can use when facing issues like this in the future prior to calling for service. When he determined that the A coil needed to be cleaned, he explained to me how I might be able to do that work on my own to save on repair costs, and made me aware of the important considerations to keep in mind when doing so. When he went to take off the furnace cover and we realized that due to the lack of proper clearance around the furnace when it was installed and the placement of the coil within it the work of cleaning the coil would be vastly more complex, he broke the news to me gently and compassionately, and he felt like a *partner* in trying to find options for me. And when I had difficulty getting financing approval to have the work done, he kept pulling for me and cheering me on. I have *never* seen another technician who shows more profoundly that he truly cares about his customers. I hope Blue Ox realizes what a priceless gem and a truly rare asset they have in Angel. Having managed techs before, this is the kind of employee you hold onto for dear life and invest in cultivating. They should be very proud to have him on their team: I know I certainly would. Angel has made me a loyal and enthusiastic Blue Ox customer, and I will never hesitate to recommend Blue Ox to anyone in need of their services any time I hear about it as a result. read more

We needed a new sump pump, new outdoor spigot with shut off valve and a new laundry tub faucet with shut off valves. Took about 5.5 hours and total charge worked out to about $500/hr. Plumber did a great job and we were glad to have the work done. $500/hr seems like a lot, but not sure if that's the going rate-that's on me, should have got a second opinion. STRONGLY suggest you request an itemized invoice with parts and labor listed separately. read more

I received AC Tuneup coupon in the mail from Blue Ox for $49. I thought that it sounded like a good deal cause like it said on the coupon it cost $149 normally. The technician came out and he was very friendly and professional. He pointed out to me that the coils around the unit was dirty and he would clean them for an additional $150. I called Blue Ox to asked them if cleaning coils were part of the tuneup, they said yes but not all coil cleaning are included. Even though nothing on the coupon or their website mentions that. I talked to their manager and he told me a tuneup and coiling cleaning for my Rudd AC Unit costs $300. I received a refunded for their tuneup, do to the fact I wasn't going to spend $150 dollars extra to get the coils cleaned. The tuneup can't be complete if you don't get your coils clean. I called Center Point Energy and they would come out to do a tuneup for $99, and they said they clean all coils for that price. I will say everyone at Blue Ox from the technician, receptions, and manager were very friendly. I appreciate that they refunded me back. I just wouldn't use them again, because their deception for what you get with their coupons and they are expensive without a coupon. read more

Update: I had Lofgren come out and check the work of Blue Ox. Guess what, nothing wrong with my furnace or utility room. Lofgren also cleaned up some things that Blue Ox neglected. No unexpected charges either. Watch out for offers that don't sound right. I hate to complain, but I would be doing a disservice to all of you if I didn't warn of my experience. I call Blue Ox for a furnace check up before my house sells. It was a discounted $49 service. They tuned the fuel/air mixture which was good. They cleaned the furnace, afterwards telling my wife that that would be an extra $100. We got that waived as they didn't warn us of additional fees ahead of time. Then the craziness started. They claimed that my furnace had no combustion air source, even as they were nearly standing on the combustion air duct line from outside the house. They wouldn't hear it, needs major reworking. They wanted to install the very duct that they were standing next to for $1350. If we weren't willing to that, then we could put in a replacement louvre door to the furnace room to burn air from the house. I pointed out the vent in the room, but they wouldn't hear it. I'm glad they weren't looking at my car. They'd be trying to sell me a new engine because it was missing a blinker fluid reservoir. It's sad that they were so ignorant or just plain liars. I was willing to pay well for good service. I called Lofgren, who I should have called in the first place, to check their work. You've been warned. read more

The salesperson did a very pushy hard sale at the end! Not impressed! He didn't want to leave until we signed on the line and kept saying, I guess we got nothing done today! Really!? I already had 2 estimates within $100 of each other. His estimate for the Ac unit only installed,apples to apples was over $2000.00 more! Really!? He also TRIED to add an additional $500 just to clean the vents. REALLY!? He hid the price in but didn't tell me. I made him itemize his rip off estimate and caught him in the lie. Really? Please beware before calling Blue Ox Heating and Air. They were very high pressure when they showed up. As many have said before, they charge you $89 just to show up. Right after they came in and put on their booties, they said it would be $350 for a "diagnostics" for them to find out what was wrong. I found out the "diagnostics" entailed them to walk in the house and proceed to tell me I would be better off to get everything replaced versus fixing. They did nothing to try to find out why my equipment stopped working. They claim that nobody will do a free estimate on getting a new furnace / AC and "others" will all charge us well over 2 to 3 times what they did to show up just to quote you. Found many, many inaccuracies in what they said after doing just a little research myself. After getting 2 free quotes from others, Blue Ox was over $2k-$3k higher for a full replacement and even found one quote that was $5k less than Blue Ox. One company was honest enough to tell me the fix would cost no more than $100 and could tell immediately what was wrong with my unit and got it running within 15 minutes. He couldn't stop laughing when I told him another company told me it was probably $3,500 to fix. read more

We've had them for a little over a year and have had no problems. Keep the maintenance up and hopefully we will have great units that last a good while. Said he could refill my air conditioner with Puron and fix the problem. I had contacted them because they had a big two page ad in a mailer. I asked him how much it would cost to recharge it. He said 300.00 per pound for the first pound and 75.00 per pound after that. I did not know the cost but thought it to be high. I called a number of other companies and asked them what it would cost to recharge my air conditioner with Freon. They said around 50.00 per pound!!! Look out!! read more

Beware of the Blue Ox! Our furnace stopped working last Sunday, so we called them. They sent a "repairman" who turned out to really be a salesman. He spent about a minute looking at our furnace and then told us we just need a new one -- to the tune of $7000! On Monday, we called Boehm and they came and fixed the furnace in 15 minutes for $300 and told us the furnace is in great shape with a long life ahead of it. And we had to pay $129 for Blue Ox's "repair call"! We've since heard many stories about Blue Ox's "business model" of preying on people in an emergency to sell them new furnaces and discard ones that could be repaired. read more

Horrible customer service. The phone number on the website is hit or miss. As in it might be disconnected, or after hours it rings an answering service for Benjamin Franklin who after asking for Blue Ox replies, "A what?", or "What is Blue Ox?" - I called two different numbers I found online and both times went to the answering service who's operators had no idea what Blue Ox was. If you happened to get through when their phones work you can smell high pressure sales from the start because they ask for "both decision makers" to be present for the appointment because there is a lot to go over after the quote. Give me a break - just give me the run down and your estimate. I'll choose based on how the agent represents themselves, the company, the sales rep, and the price. In addition, your appointment with them doesn't mean much because they warn you they will not show up to your appointment if you don't answer their call prior to them coming. Because I wasn't able to get a hold of anyone again to cancel my appointment I just ignored their pre-service call. They get one start for making cancelling easy. Just for icing on the cake, they called for my 11am-1pm appointment at 12:40pm. read more

Major scammers!! I was told my furnace needed $3000 dollars of work done when it didn't. The technician was really pushy about if I wanted the work done or to replace my furnace for $4500 instead. Also, he was really pushy about me getting an answer from my husband about what we should do. Thankfully he was sleeping and didn't want to make any decisions. I could tell the tech was not happy that I didn't set up an appointment to have work done. I had another company come check to confirm all the "problems" my furnace had... come to find out all it needed was a new filter!!!! $3000 job turned into a $20 fix! read more

We had Blue Ox out last week and they quoted us $6500 to replace our 80,000 BTU furnace after they red tagged it & shut it down - with the earliest date to replace 4 business days later. We contacted the HVAC company that installed our last one 18 years ago and they quoted us $4200 plus they found more than $1000 in rebates so the price really ended up at about half what Blue Ox quoted. $49 coupon said 'Furnace tune-up' but technician said it's actually just a 'safety inspection'. They use that as bait then quote you ridiculously high replacement costs like $400 for an igniter. Igniter is a $25 part and takes 5 minutes to change, it's literally one bolt lol. Tech also said my blower motor was 'leaking oil' but the motor doesn't even have an oil reserve, that's just grease from the bearings which is normal for them to be lubricated. read more

This company discriminates against customers. My wife had COVID over a month ago and has been cleared by her doctor. She has also been cleared to go back to work. However, Blue Ox refuses to come out and provide service even though they won't even be coming into the house. When I scheduled the first time they told me that they would come out once my wife was symptom free for two weeks. I rescheduled and then they cancelled the day of. They just said they wouldn't come out because she had had COVID in the past. I asked when they would be able to come out. They said they had no idea. This company is run by fear, not logic.
