Little Maru on my board awwww
    Elizabeth N.

It's almost impossible to get a longboard on the island right now. Most people aren't working so they have all the time in the world to surf and decently priced longboards are being swiped left and right. I was stalking Craigslist, used surf shops, Facebook Marketplace multiple times per day for days with no luck! Out, out, out, sold, sold, sold... Affordable custom boards were had a wait time of 2 months and I need a board now. Much to my surprise, my friend told me about this shop and how they had some longboards in my budget when he stopped by. I darted over to RV's, a chill small mom and pop shop tucked in a residential area. Indeed they had boards!!! There were two boards that fit my criteria and I ended up with this insane, obnoxiously cute board with flower, heart, and dolphin with eyelashes painted on LOL. I burst up laughing when Brudda Roy first pulled the board out to show me. Brudda Roy owns the shop and he's a character. Friendly, chill, and cool! No intimidating vibe for a novice like me. He patiently taught me how to set up the fins. He just genuinely wants people out in the water! Little Maru was there at the time and he's soooo cute! They've got used boards, sometimes new boards, do repairs, and offer lessons. Come on by and support this local surf shop!

I heard about Roy from my friends and knew I had to bring my board here for repair ! Roy is fuggin awesome and I can see why my friends said that. He was able to repair my board in a few days , dings that I was putting off for the longest time. I love supporting local and small shops like Roy's , true authenticity nothing beats, if you want good vibes this is the place to go. Will come back again and again and again. GOD bless this small shop in Kapahulu

Roy Vierra's ding repairs are fast & affordable. No other ding repairs in town turn your board around as fast. He's my go-to guy.

I was put in an odd spot. Surely not in my comfort zone…read more You see, a friend from Japan came to Hawaii and when asked what he wanted to do, surfing came up. As a local boy born and raised in Oahu, I'm embarrassed by the fact that I cannot swim. Surfing clearly out of the picture. I used to work in the Japanese tour agency many blue moons ago where I recall a surfing school that offers surfing lessons. My friend already knows how to surf so I didn't think this was for him so I asked one of my physical therapists who surfs regularly. He introduced me to a surfing school that's at Ala Moana Beach where I was given their website, which is also available in Japanese. I forwarded the information to my friend prior to his arrival to Honolulu where he didn't jump at it and said he'd think about it. On his arrival I drove him to his hotel on Kalakaua Ave and upon check in we saw a rack of surfboards nearby where I asked if they were rentals. The staff advised the boards belong to the in-house guests who were keeping them as storage while not in use. When asked about rentals, the front desk staff advised us to inquire with Moku Hawaii (MH) as their rates are 1/2 to what the businesses are asking for across the street on the beach. MH has been in business since 1985 where they hail from Japan. They started off as a clothing company but transitioned over to a surf shop offering surf lesson and rental business. We walked over and soon found MH, which is on the 1F at the corner of Koa Ave and Uluniu Ave. We were greeted by a friendly, young female staff who welcomed us and answered our multiple questions. With its locality, reasonable rates and customer service, my friend liked MH and decided to look no further. While checking out their inventory, my friend noticed hard boards and was hoping for soft boards. The staff guided us to those soft boards where it's available in either long or short. You will need to complete their rental form which to our surprise is quite flexible. For example, you can initially request for a 2 hr package but in the event you go overcast, you just pay the difference of $5, which is the price difference between 2 hr course and the next course of up to 4 hrs. MH gives back to the community as they sponsor multiple local keiki surf contests. That's so awesome. So, if you should be in a bind where someone asks you for a surf school in Waikiki, look no further and guide them to MH. We were surprisingly impressed with their surf shop and their amazing customer service. They open from 6am and close at 8pm

You really won't find better value anywhere. Their board selection is great and their staff is knowledgeable in helping you select a surfboard to suit your experience and style. I even spotted a few of their staff in the lineup at Canoes during their lunch break. And their location one block from Kalakaua Avenue makes it a most convenient way to maximize your enjoyment surfing the legendary Waikiki waves. If you're like me and don't like flying with your surfboard, Moku Hawaii is an easy choice.

As an avid Peanuts/Snoopy fan, both times I was so excited to visit and made a point of fitting it into the itinerary. However, the main reason it doesn't get five stars is because of the particularly high price point for what it is. Most items are priced higher than other similarly themed, small shops in Honolulu. For instance, some stickers here are in the $5.50 range instead of $3-$4 range. Basic thin canvas tote bags are about $40. It starts to feel like they're really taking advantage of fans and tourists and push a higher limit simply because "they can." The selection is really cute though, and items do sell out. So your options really depend on when you happen to visit. My first time in October 2023, both locations were all out of crossbody tote bags. This time around (February 2026), they were available in both locations. Many of the other items were the same both times, but there were maybe a few new designs. Also, this time around there were none available plushie keychains, which I neglected to purchase the first time around as they're over $20 each. This is just outside the Waikiki beachfront area, so not really easily walkable from there. Parking is street parking. You might have to loop around a couple of times, but it shouldn't take too long. Service here isn't particularly noteworthy, but efficient, especially given lots of tourists who visit, especially popular with Japanese.

It is on a corner with just a few parking spots on the side of the store. I parked across the street in the bakery parking lot, picked up some pastries and then walked across the street to the Snoopy shop. It is a small shop, lots of tourists so it is a bit crowded so a little difficult to navigate around the store. There are lots of cute merchandise, a bit pricey but fun things to buy. If you are a Snoopy fan, drop in and look at the variety of things to buy.
