It's almost impossible to get a longboard on the island right now. Most people aren't working so they have all the time in the world to surf and decently priced longboards are being swiped left and right. I was stalking Craigslist, used surf shops, Facebook Marketplace multiple times per day for days with no luck! Out, out, out, sold, sold, sold... Affordable custom boards were had a wait time of 2 months and I need a board now. Much to my surprise, my friend told me about this shop and how they had some longboards in my budget when he stopped by. I darted over to RV's, a chill small mom and pop shop tucked in a residential area. Indeed they had boards!!! There were two boards that fit my criteria and I ended up with this insane, obnoxiously cute board with flower, heart, and dolphin with eyelashes painted on LOL. I burst up laughing when Brudda Roy first pulled the board out to show me. Brudda Roy owns the shop and he's a character. Friendly, chill, and cool! No intimidating vibe for a novice like me. He patiently taught me how to set up the fins. He just genuinely wants people out in the water! Little Maru was there at the time and he's soooo cute! I normally rent boards around the Waikiki area, but came across this gem of a surf rental spot. Rented 3 boards for 3 1/2 days, since we got there at noon, Uncle Roy the Owner did not charge us for the 1/2 day. He was so kind, full of aloha and knowledgeable of all the surf spots. I don't post reviews at all, even if Google asks me to. I only post a review if said shop truly operates with aloha and goes above and beyond what is expected(Detailed review below) RV's surf shop's owner, Roy, did a fantastic job on repairs for my fiberglass 9'0". His prices are VERY fair (payed $60 for over 5 dings and multiple fiberglass shatters). The fiberglass repair job was excellent, I opted out on color matching, but the repair is flush, uniform, and smooth. Roy also sells all kinds of used boards for fair prices. While all this is great, I would be remiss to mention that Roy will treat you with aloha and like family!!! To me, that is what makes a shop go from good to great! P.S. don't park in front or on the corner of D.J.'s barbershop. They or one of the people in the housing unit are quick to give tickets (like less than a minute and the cops were called kine quick)!!! read more

I took my board here to get repaired after my bad experience with the Ding Kings (see my review there). But, man, did I just have super bad luck with this repair or what?? They gave me a fair price for the repair but said it would take about a week. They told me to pick it up on a certain day unless they call me to tell me differently. So I went to pick up my board and the guy working went to get it but said he didn't think it was finished. And... yes indeed.. it was not finished because someone tried to color match it with NAIL POLISH! I didn't even want it color-matched!! I was so disgusted and disturbed... the employee called the owner (can't remember his name) and he said I wasn't supposed to be there to pick it up yet. I told him that they told me to come on this day unless someone called. And no one called, so I came. He said another employee was trying to help out and thought that her nail polish would match my board.... who the hell was this employee?? So he tried to fix it by giving me a "free" color match and it was so off that it just looks like a multi-colored blob now. Do NOT get your board fixed here... unless you know that the smart employee with the nail polish collection does not work there anymore. What a ditz! read more

I've been going to RV's since I first learned how to surf, over 15 years ago. I adore Roy and his wife, they are awesome people and always help me get exactly what I am looking for in a new board. I've gone to about every surf shop on Oahu and this is my favorite - a mix of old and new, insight and wise cracks, as well as a lot of good surf advice. They have sold several of my boards over the years for y asking price, not only that but they once held onto a check for me for 4 years when they sold my board because I moved to the mainland! So awesome!! Just bought another board, a 6' fish custom designed by Roy, from them the other day and I ADORE it. Going to have them sell my longboard later. I had significant damage on the rails of my 9'4'' hoku - a car hit my board in the parking lot. Roy is honest, quick, and friendly. I was charged a very decent price for the amount of damage on the board. There were even spots where the cracks were quite deep and he was able to fill them properly. Roy's work is really great, the rails are completely streamlined and smooth. This will definitely be my go to repair shop. read more

I love RV's! Roy, the owner, is very kind, helpful, informative, and honest. As soon as I walked in, he greeted me and asked me if he could be of any help. I asked him if he had any used short boards for sale with the specific dimensions. Unfortunately, he did not have any. In fact, he was so honest that he told me he doesn't have many short boards for sale and the majority of them are long boards. When he found out I was buying my first short board he got so excited for me and started pulling out long boards of the dimensions I was looking for and had me sit on them just to get a feel for them. He also pulled out the few short boards he had and had me sit on them and carry them just to compare to make sure I had the right dimensions. He recommended a bunch of surf shops that sold many used short boards for good prices. Roy even offered to take down my information and said that he'll give me call if he heard of or came across a short board that matches what I'm looking for. If you're just starting out surfing and need assistance, go to RV's and talk to Roy - he will tell you exactly what dimensions and what type of board is best for you. I recommend! read more

moved to the area and needed a shop that can fix all my dings. tried out RVs and uncle Roy was the man to help me with everything i needed. nothing but the utmost respect for this man and the way he does things. He's an amazing guy for repairs at extremely reasonable prices. my first time bringing a board to the shop he pointed out every little ding and crack gave me an estimate and i was surprised when the turn around was the next day or two. so there you have it board will be in the shop for a few days so i go for a dip in the water right after leaving. i kid you not before i got out of the water he was done with the board all water tight and ready to go. same day turn around!!! i don't really care too much for color matching and that is something that he doesn't do too much of. he did throw a bit of color on my blue board and kept my gray board clear. i don't mind and i am very happy with what this guy does. also has a bunch of used boards in the shop that could be your next one. mahalo roy! read more

Went in here for the first time & met Sanai. She was very polite & quite knowledgeable about her surfboards. I saw a board for 325 & asked if dey could hold it for a few days. She was fine with that if I left a $5-10 deposit, I left 25. After 3 days of contemplating, I decided to not get the board. Thinking I would lose my 20 extra deposit because I didn't want the board, Sanai was very awesome to return my whole $25 deposit. They got some board selections that might fit your personal taste. Absolutely love this shop! Solid collection of boards, super friendly and knowledgeable staff, and quick and affordable ding repair. I had some cracks on my rail that could have been taped over but my wife wanted me to get them fixed for my birthday. I was a bit hesitant to spend money on minor dings, but since my wife was offering it as a present we took my board down to RVs (where I originally purchased the board). Roy gave me an honest assessment of what needed to be fixed and patched me up quickly. They seem to move through boards pretty quicky, so t's always worth popping in if you're in the neighborhood to see what used boards they have in stock! read more

I would give 0 if I could.... I bought a brand new board in a store and, a few days after, I had a ding on it... Since the board was new I brought it to RVs to fix it as soon as possible and I did not care about the price! They charged me $70 for the repair which I thought was expensive but I paid without saying anything (like I said it was a new board) However, I noticed some weird pressure dings appeared next to the repair a few days after (on the nose, where I do not put my feet or anything else) so I had to bring the board back to them... There was also a little hole in their repair.... I had to argue with the owner cause he said his repair was fine and it was the way I stored the board at my place which damaged the board and did these pressure (they were small at this time)......... He was trying to tell me I was wrong.... However, I am a mechanical engineer and I am an expert at stresses and strains analysis... When I told him that and that I did not understand his explanations on a mechanical point of view... he fixed my board for free (he filled up the small hole) I thought I was lucky but he did not use the good resin on my board.... the one he used is burning the foam inside and it is spreading (now the pressure are much bigger). Days after days the board becomes more fragile and I will basically have to throw it away in a couple of months. He never admitted it and told me I was not respectful towards people from Hawaii when I explained him what I read online and the phenomena that is occurring within my board.... I did not understand his attack on respect towards people from Hawaii so I took my board and I left. To me this place is really bad, they do not do good job. It is very expensive and they don't respect people. I would avoid this place if I were you. read more

RV's is so great, I have been there a few times for different things and Roy is always incredibly helpful. I dinged up my board pretty good on the tail, and he had it all fixed and ready to get back in the water within a few days. He let me know right off the bat what the estimated cost would be and the quality of work that he would be able to put in for my price range. I recommended that a few friends come here, both beginner surfers, to buy their first board. Roy has a wide selection of used boards, was able to get them both on great boards! i pretty much agree with everyone else, about the cost of the used boards. i think it's because they are near diamond head area and Waikiki. they hooked me up with a short board for my kid for $20. Now i am not saying it was the best looking board, he did say he used it to ppl who wanted to try short board and has quite a few dings and dents. still cant even buy a repair kit for less then $10-15. parking is always hard to find in the area. read more
