This was our first professional made cake purchase and it definitely opened the door for future cake ideas rather than having just your usual sheet cake for parties. First, Karin was amazing to work with right from the get-go. We were trying (and stressing) with planning my daugther's first birthday from Germany for her party in New Jersey. Karin was super responsive and also provided her expert guidance in terms of what we can do from our end to shape the design of the baked goods. She was super professional and addressed our questions and ideas in a timely manner despite the 6 hour time difference. The entire Blue Sheep staff was great to work with all the way through to the day of the party. The pick up of the cake and cupcakes was super smooth. We ended up having my cousin pick up the items from the shop which there was no issues with. He sent a picture when the items were secured and we couldn't be more satisfied (see picture). The packaging was perfect for the transport of the baked items and gave us an ease of mind that they were going to arrive at the venue in good condition. For my daugther's first birthday we went with a red gold theme which the cake and cupcakes matched perfectly. The design we envisioned was created and baked rather well; the red and gold colors were spot on. The cake was smoothed to perfection. The only part of the cake that was different than how we imagined was the size of the gold flowers on top; in restrospect, the sizes were proportionate where the flowers were not marginalized by the size of the topper cake. The weight of each flower was pretty substantial, and one of them ended up tipping over (at no fault of the shop) during event. If I am not mistakened these flowers are pre-sized so this gives us insight on future designs. Everything came together just right as we hoped for in terms of the candles and cupcake lace wrapping we purchased separately. In terms of the taste, the cupcakes took the show away. All the guests couldn't get enough with many trying to go for seconds. (see picture of empty tiered pastry shelving). The design alone was enough to have guests that didn't normally eat cupcakes or any pastries to try and/or take home just to look at. The cake was good; the chocolate was rich, with the proportionate balance of buttercream. Extremely satisfied and it helped make the party a blast for my family and friends! 5/5 would recommend and get cakes from again! read more

This one was chocolate chip cake with raspberry buttercream in the center. Amazing! The texture of the cake was like Angel food cake, like bouncy but tasted sinful like pound cake at the same time. The raspberry buttercream in the middle was perfect smooth and creamy and not too sweet. The outside of the cake speaks for itself. Decorations placed so precise and perfect. I've had a few cakes over the years so I've taken a lot of time to consider my opinion. Lovely, lovely cakes. Their decorating skills are top notch, consistent and very professional. However, the cake's flavor is really something to be desired. I really want to love this bakery, but I don't. If you want a showstopper cake to wow an event, this bakery is for you as long as you don't care how the cakes taste. The cakes are very consistent so I will give them that. They're consistently very light and spongy cakes, but kind of flavorless and remind me of shop rite. Very commercial tasting, maybe they don't bake them in house? The american buttercream is fine. The Swiss meringue buttercream tastes like exclusively butter, and not enough sugar which is kind of off putting. To-go cakes aren't torted so there's only one layer of buttercream, and at ~$60 for a 7" cake it just seems a little lazy. If the cake had better flavor I would find the price to be more than reasonable. Maybe I'm too picky. I want to love these cakes and this bakery, I keep trying but I keep feeling like I want something more. I wish their taste was as top notch as their decorating. The cakes are truly beautiful works of art and the staff is extremely talented. But for me, the cake needs to taste as great as it looks. They're obviously doing something right being a very busy and popular bakery, but it's not for me. So to sum it up, if you're a big fan of eating cake I don't recommend this bakery. read more

From the photos on Yelp, I'm sure thier cakes are amazing. But, this place also makes some pretry decent ice cream, and some pretty elaborate ice cream shakes. None of the ice cream is homemade, or artisanal by any sense; so you milenials can stop reading this. However, even though the staff could barely tell me anything worthwhile about the ice cream; it still was decent. It seems as if much of the foot traffic is attracted mainly bc it's on Division St, but possibly because of thier ice cream cases. Dense but fluffy, flavorful, and perfectly paired with their sweet, but not too sweet, filling and icing. Perfect balance. If you're looking for the wow factor of Blue Sheep, you gots to order the carrot cake whoopie pie. You gots to. The lucky charms macaroon didn't quite have the famous cereal flavor, but the texture of the cookie was perfect, which is no easy task to master. Light, just a little chewy, and soft. Pretty terrific I must say. Only one or two tables in the small bake shop, but if you're here at the right time of year, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy your goodies on the enclosed street lined with colorful tables and chairs. I'm basing my review on different experiences so read on for the full scoop! I stopped by for the first time to ask about ordering a one-tier cake for my parent's anniversary. I was told I could have a consultation and tasting, and while I eventually managed to set up a mini-consultation where I showed picture ideas of cakes I liked, there was no tasting. On the first visit, though, I picked up 6 mini-cupcakes to give us an idea of the cake flavors. My husband and I were very disappointed because every one of them was stale. Maybe I stopped on an off day. But I don't feel inclined to get cupcakes there again unless I ask which ones are very fresh. Now...as for the anniversary cake...at the consultation since I couldn't sample, I had no idea which flavor(s) to pick. Almond flavored cake with raspberry filling was recommended so I agreed. I may have been open to some extra options had they been suggested. And I had a picture of a cake from Pinterest that I liked. The cake turned out AMAZING...delicious as well as beautiful. I highly recommend Blue Sheep for the cake! This was an extra special anniversary since my Dad's health is not good. So I came across the Blue Sheep Bake Shop page on Instagram a few years ago. Their cake designs were so creative, ranging from elegant to cartoony. I really liked looking at their designs and followed them, just in case. Fast forward to a close friend's birthday coming up. Her boyfriend really wanted to make it super special and asked if I knew anywhere that would do a Nightmare Before Christmas (her favorite) themed cake. I shot Karin an email asking some questions, going through a few ideas for the cake, going back to my original idea lol. She was super patient throughout the process. Then, I told her the flavor cake and buttercream I knew my friend would love and just waited until doomsday. The day before the party, I received an email from Karin letting me know the cake was ready, awesome, and ready for pickup whenever after 10a tomorrow. I love The Nightmare Before Christmas and thought the cake was amazing, but my friend is a maniac for the movie and everything Tim Burton. When we brought out the cake, she was blown away. It took 20 minutes to convince her to cut it! To top it off, not only did it look amazing, the taste was great too! A bit too sweet for me, but everyone else at the party seemed to like it.
