They wanted to charge $8.00 / day for their food. I had my son take by food. When I picked him up he seemed fine. The next day he begin coughing and throwing up white, foamy, slimy liquid that continued all morning. Could not eat or drink without throwing up. Took him to the vet. All his shots and vaccines were updated even his BORDETELLA which had 2 months before expiration. I will never take my dog there again. They take in too many dogs and things are not communicated to owners. I believe they ran out of my dogs food because he was throwing up and it was not noted!

We've been using Good Paws exclusively for many years. They have always managed to find room for our two Yorkies, even on short notice. Our dogs are always clean and happy to see us when we return. They do not seem stressed. One great thing Good Paws does is give us a discount for the second dog when they are kept together. We just had a great example of the service provided, as we had to board our dogs at the last minute due to a family member dying of cancer halfway across the country. They got us in for what we thought would be a one week stay, but they we able to let us stretch that to fifteen days when the funeral was delayed. We never worry about the care and attention our dogs will receive. They are a bit outside of town, but conveniently located to the airport when you are flying. We would rather change our own travel plans, than to use another boarder for our dogs.

Their front desk staff (including Kassandra and Courtney) is helpful and friendly, and they always recognize us and our dog and come out to pet him! We've worked with several vets for basic check-ups, including Dr. Ford and Dr. Thomas, and they are kind and gentle. For daycare, we love Rhonda, LaDonna, and Daniel- they are always so sweet with our dog. Once I came to pick up my dog from day care early, and they let me go back to the outdoor area to watch him play (without any notice), which I always take as a good sign! How we came to be customers at Above and Beyond was because we found our dog on the street one cold Saturday morning, and they were one of the only vets in town that had Saturday afternoon hours. They checked him over for us and did a last minute rush on his vaccines. Of course we love that whenever we come to visit they always remember our story! Finally, we are moving to Chicago, and they called all around town to track down a specific vaccine that we needed before our move. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. 21 mar 2020 our 3.5 lb yorkie - Bella - was brought into Animal Medical Center Lubbock TX & seen by…read moreDr. Justin Propp. Her front arms had been buckling & she needed X-rays to further deduce if the cause was physical or neurological after glycoflex [glucosamine] consistently given over 6 months - didn't make a difference. Dr. Justin Propp prescribed Bella gabapentin & advised an MRI as the next step. Luckily, once home w/Bella in NM, we were able to smell that the gabapentin had a sweet grape aroma. While some sweeteners are harmless to humans such as xylitol, it's quite the opposite when it comes to animals. Xylitol is TOXIC to them; likely causing seizures, permanent brain damage & death. W/out knowing if this smell was a harmless sweetener or poison, on 30 Apr 2020 we emailed amcLbkwebsite@gmail.com & directly asked if the gabapentin they gave Bella contained xylitol. On 31 Apr 2020 we received an email response stating, "So I spoke with our Office Manager and he stated that the Gabapentin Oral Suspension does contain Xylitol but at such a low dose that it is not toxic to the patient taking it. We have been using it for a long time with no issues regarding our patients." At the time, I was so consumed with getting Bella into a neurologist during Covid that it didn't even cross my mind to leave a review which could have prevented another fur baby parent from having to deal with this. Bella at the time was 3.5LBS (she's now 4lbs) so ANYTHING toxic would be absolutely more dangerous to a small animal - similar to how birds die from PTFE DUE TO THEIR SIZE. Regardless, gabapentin is a great nerve pain medication, anti anxiety, as well as anti-seizure medication for pets. The danger when adding toxic xylitol is that it affects animals by likely causing seizures. So the worst thing you could do for a pet who is having seizures is to give them gabapentin containing xylitol. Likely to cause more seizures, & if you don't know there's xylitol in it & you increase the dose &/or frequency, the seizures will likely increase in parallel. *Bella wasn't having seizures, but I'm pointing this out in the event that anyone reading this [current or future client] w/a pet having seizures could at least be aware of this life saving detail. So regardless if a pet is 4lbs or 40lbs, gabapentin should NOT be given if it contains xylitol PERIOD. Don't let anyone downplay the danger of xylitol. Like if someone said (after the fact not upfront) "oh it's just a little crack cocaine, not a big deal - we put it in the kid's pb&js all the time w/no issues, you'd probably have them taken to court. It's not that different. There is AMPLE reputable literature educating us on the dangers of xylitol to animals. Granted, this was 3 yrs ago so hopefully this vet doesn't carry toxic medication anymore. Hopefully they aren't giving anything toxic to unknowing pet owners (such as in our case) which essentially is poisoning our own pet without knowing it. My concern & reason for writing this 3 years later is the guilt I already feel hoping this didn't happen to someone else who wasn't as lucky & didn't know to ask if xylitol was in their pet's medication. Or maybe they did ask like we did & they got the same answer, trusted & believed the irresponsible response from doctors & staff here stating a little xylitol isn't a big deal, it's given to their patients all the time. I'm not angry. I'm not reviewing any other part of the service Bella had that day because the x-rays turned out great. This is solely to inform any current or future unsuspecting pet parent about the danger of xylitol & the attitude the Lubbock doctor & staff of mar 2020 had at the time: 1.) having a non pet safe formula 2.) the vet prescribing gabapentin knowing it contained xylitol despite Bella's weight 3.5 lbs & 3.) receptionist & office manager both confirming the xylitol in Bella's gabapentin wasn't a big deal. I thank Jesus daily for Bella who is 12 years young going on 13 come Sept 2023 -- living her best life despite having Chiari Malformation & Syringomyelia.
