I was impressed compared to the other reviews. Onion rings were phenomenal and the fries were homemade. Had the green chili cheeseburger and enjoyed it. If you're choosing between this and red robin, Blue Sky is my pick 10 out of 10 times. It has more a Texas flavor and less of a franchise taste. Out-of-town traveler and first time here. We were a big group (11) and the staff quickly and courteously accommodated our request for making a large table. Ordering for my wife and two teenage daughters, our cashier immediately picked up on the fact my wife and I were splitting a burger. She graciously offered the kitchen to serve the burger already cut in two halves which we accepted. The burger arrived as ordered and with an additional burger basket from which to eat. What a true disappointment. The order taker was less than thrilled to be there and lacked any kind of smile. I was expecting a really a good burger and that was not the case. This was a great place for our large family to gather to have dinner and celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday while we were visiting Abilene. The food was tasty (the fried jalapeños and crisp sweet potato fries were my favorite), the restaurant was clean, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, and the children loved playing outside on their shaded playground. There's no doubt about it. Blue sky has the best burger in Abilene. When you walk in the door you are greeted by a friendly staff and a welcoming environment. The bacon cheeseburger is a must, due to surprisingly flavorful bacon and a refreshingly juicy patty. Something about the meat and cheese combo on such a well rounded bun creates a fantastically delicious package. The burgers are cooked to perfection, which is incredably hard to find nowadays. Those so bold as to try the bacon cheese fries will be subjected to a flavor entrapment. Ask for an extra side of ranch and hold on for a wild flavor ride. The only downside at all is that the prices are slightly higher than average for this style of restaurant. read more

OMG pure grease! What a giant let down. Will not go there again. The onion ring were over greasy. The burger was over greasy. And they weren't the nicest people either. When you are new to a place they should understand you need to look and not push you so hard. Hamburger was good. Background music was low so you didn't have to shout to have a conversation Tables were well spaced. You didn't have to move the table behind you to pull your chair out. The hand-cut French fries were a perfect imitation of machine cut French fries. read more

The food was delicious! A very clean and chill vibe while there. A lot of different tea options which I thought was cool. My only complaint which is just my personal opinion was that I didn't get a lot of guac on my burger when I had to pay $1 for it. So don't get the guac and you'll be set! read more

This was our first trip to Blue Sky and it won't be our last. The menu is primarily burger and fries type selections although I had their grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and my companions had the ham and cheese sandwich and steak and fries dinner. No one really goes out of their way to assist you but I don't need that from this type of restaurant so it didn't matter. What mattered is the food quality, which has deteriorated. My husband and I ate here for the first time on May 5th at about 3p.m. We thought they would have table service, but you order, pay and get a number then go pick it up when you see your number on one of the digital boards. My husband got a regular cheeseburger with everything, I got the chicken pasta salad and we got a small french fries and onion rings and two med. drinks. It was $26.13, a little pricy we thought. His burger was okay, but they did not give him a choice of bun types, so it was just the usual. Nothing really good or bad here, just pretty normal stuff, although a little on the small size in circumference. The fries were average and the onion rings were thin, so were below average in our opinion. We asked if the onion rings were more on the wide side and she said, no because they were hand cut. That has no relevance at all. You can cut the slices as thick as you want and the thicker ones are juicy and really have that fried onion taste. So nothing special here at all. My chicken pasta salad was about as bad as it gets. There was another word at the beginning but I can't remember what it was. She said it was a kind of salsa, when I asked, so I requested for it to be left off and opted for ranch dressing instead. What I got was hard, dry little chunks of chicken and some cork-screw pasta over a bed of some iceberg lettuce and way too much dark, limp, hard to chew romaine, topped with a very little bit of tiny blue cheese, I think, crumbles. I'm sure you can buy rotisserie chicken from your suppliers, and you should, because your offering is quite nasty. I've never seen a more bland little combination of nothing ingredients that anyone dared to call a chicken salad. Since you don't seem to know a thing about the proper making and serving of chicken salad, please just Google it and find out. It's not hard to make with many different ingredient combinations to choose from like--good moist chicken, onions, celery, pickle cubes or sweet relish (well drained), seeded cucumber, tomato, black and/or green olives, pimento, grated or small cubes of cheddar or American cheese, chopped nuts, pineapple pieces, pasta and your choice of other things as well. Then it's dressed with mayo. and a little salt and pepper. Serve it over a bed of ICEBERG lettuce only, so it's all crunchy and delicious. You're welcome!! We may try you again. Depends on what else opens next that really knows how to prepare their type of food they expect us to shell out big bucks for in the dining out experience. read more

My lady and I tried this out for the first time here in Abilene. It was ok. Nothing to write home about that is for sure. The staff was helpful and very polite, the wait for the food was much longer than expected. The atmosphere on the other hand was great. I loved the way it was decorated and the Texas country music in the air. It was pretty great. The food was ok. I got a simple frito pie while my lady got a salad and we shared some chili cheese fries. The chili tasted to be homemade which was nice. It was messy of course and the salad my lady had seemed to have been taken from the very end of the head of lettuce. She just ate the fries. All in all it was ok but just another burger joint to choose from in Abilene. If you want a burger go to Lucy's. About the best part of my trip to this Blue Sky was seeing the black Lamborghini pull up outside. read more

Blue Sky rocks! Their burgers are consistently excellent, & the buttered buns make them the best in town. Their fries are awesome, & if you really want to let out your belt, the cheese fries with bacon are fantastic. Their coconut tea is particularly good as well. Has an outdoor play area for the kids-that alone wins in my book! I give it five stars just for that! The food, I'd give 3-4 stars. It's about on par with what I would expect for this level of a restaurant. There could be some improvements to the food but it's consistent and my kids will eat it so that's what counts in the end. read more

Thought we would try it .finally burger was OK .over priced. Weird how fries are separate. But OK .got 3 orders of fries with our burgers. They were cold lymph greasy like old .like almost burnt .so I was nice and ask if this is just there fries .new I was but not new to fries .sweet girl at the counter said we will bring u new ones .so she did .still nasty .old grease needed to be changed .I looked at the table behind me with golden normal fries not soggy . Looked liked they didn't finish there food but at least there food wasn't burnt .my problem. Im 49 yrs old I know when the grease needs to be changed . don't treat me like I'm stupid when i tell ya .I will never eat here again .This is a management issue .people not professional at all standing around making sure I know they are talking about me . I am a medical profession I'm not stupid my kids wanted to go here not me .I don't like the way I was treated. I'm told they are hand cut that's why they are burnt looking.. Just went here and was terrible. You end up paying about $14 for a cheeseburger fries and drink because you have to order everything separate so they can nickel and dime you. Then on top of that they charge extra for tiny cups of queso that the cashier didn't mention when I asked for them($2 apiece). They messed up my order because I asked for jalepenos and green chile on my burger and didn't get it. Then didn't even put the queso on the tray so I had to go back up and ask again for it.
