Here in Abilene for a doctor's visit. The burger was good, the meat was fresh, the bun was moist. Better than Heff's. I appreciate that the onion rings and fries are made fresh. You could tell they aren't frozen. read more

My daughter and I ate here when she was home on Christmas break and really enjoyed our lunch. We started with their queso and chips and were pretty surprised at the freshly cooked chips hot out of the fryer and really tasty queso that didn't taste like the same old Velveeta-Rotel combo we all know (and love, if I'm being honest). But more important, it didn't taste like a typical "off the truck" packaged queso you get elsewhere. We ended up using that for our fries and onion rings, as well. We chose to split a half & half order of fries and onion rings (good choice, we had too much food on the table!) and to each have a plain old cheeseburger as a gauge. Buns were toasted well, burgers cooked to what I'd say is just past medium-well, so juicy but definitely cooked through, and thankfully neither of us ran into the greasiness other Yelpers mentioned. One day I'll learn to follow her lead and skip the lettuce and tomato, or at least ask if the lettuce is shredded - how on earth are you supposed to eat that stuff gracefully on a burger? I wasn't expecting a cashier/line/pickup situation but it went quickly and smoothly and the layout of the restaurant didn't feel hectic or crowded when going to pick up food. For an American fast food place, it isn't the worst. I ordered a burger with avocados, Oreo milkshake, and a lemonade. The burger was slightly over cooked but it was still edible. The avocado was not fresh, it was a from a per-made container. The Oreo shake was 100% just Oreos, milk, ice, and whipped cream. Their menu reads that it is done with real blue bell ice cream and I am certain that is not so. The shake started to separate. The Oreo and bits of ice sat at the top while the milk drained to the bottom of the cup. The texture was all off. Next time you run out of ice cream, simply be honest with the customer. Their lemonade has the flat after taste that some fountain drinks have. It's from a failure to clean out the fountain properly at the end of service. Moldy. read more

Not sure we'll ever go to another local burger place again. The last time we went to a close Burger place my gluten free daughter got really sick so we think their season salt was on her chicken burger even though we said no season salt (gluten). So missing a good burger we decided to Blue Sky. My daughter and I ordered bunless bacon hamburgers and oh my they are good. (This was before they had the tasty gluten free buns). Most "mixed" seasonings hurt our gluten sensitive tummies but these meat patties were seasoned wonderfully and didn't hurt us. They were so every good. The fries were soggy like the deep fryer isn't set to the right temperature to fully cook them, adding cheese and bacon wasn't even able to make them tolerable. I visited Blue Sky Texas last week while visiting my family in Abilene. I had the chicken fried steak and fries. It left a lot to be desired. It had little flavor and seemed as if it was frozen. Their peach tea was pretty good. Perhaps next time I'll get a burger. read more

I like Blue Sky Texas. We didn't wait long and the menu offers salads made with dark green lettuce rather than just the iceberg type. Some have said it's pricey and they do sell the fries separate so you end up around $9 bucks for a burger (wo/cheese) and fries and that doesn't include drink. So better figure on $10-$11 out the door. The noise level was much lower than some places although it was probably a much slower night than other times. Still, the music wasn't blasting loud, nice on the digestive tract : ) Also pretty nice sized tables and some space between them. Better than many of the other similar types in Abilene. All I can really say is meh. The burgers look great but are very bland. The burgers tend to fall apart pretty quick. Upside the patties are a good size and juicy. I had chili with mine but for the cost of blue sky there are much better cheaper burgers out there. Btw chili is bland and tasteless as well. The fried jalapeños are not very good and for the price your getting a ton of undippable little pieces. Service was top notch the little blonde cashier was very helpful and full of cheer. The greeting earned them an extra star. If your bored and have money to blow try it. If you have a small eating out budget I would skip. read more

Very slow service. Waited in line about 20 minutes. Employees were not friendly once you got up to the front. At least apologize for the wait. Our food took another 15 minutes. Not impressed at all. My husband and I ordered two small items and two large drinks. I got a garden salad, which was very small. He got a Fritos pie and it too was not very big. Went to this place for the first time as a family. The chips and queso were excellent. Also the bacon cheese fries were delectable with along with the homemade ranch. Convenience of having a playground for the kids was a cherry on top. We enjoyed a pitcher of beer while our kids played. It was a win for all of us- will definitely be back! This is the only place in town that you can eat on a big patio and have a beer while the kids play on a unique and engaging playground and sandpit. The patio is positioned above the sandpit so parents have no trouble keeping a close eye on the kiddos. That alone would earn this place a high rating from me, but the burgers are pretty dang good, too. The only thing that keeps Blue Sky from being a 5 star place for me is the lack of a craft beer selection, to speak of. First time there. Seemed to take a while to get our meal but it wasn't overly bad. Hamburger was good. Not spectacular but good. Fries were so-so as were the tater tots. Pretty damn good!! I have been hearing it was overpriced for not so special burgers. I disagree. Doesn't cost anymore than any other establishment of this sort. The burgers are fresh (the buns are amazing) and the onion rings are thin and flaky. I had the green chili burger, my husband the philly cheese and my children ate the bacon cheeseburger. Unfortunately, they teamed up with Blue Bell as their ice cream partner and for those of you who don't know, Blue Bell is going through some struggles right now. Downside is the price.
