As for the employees it was a pretty good vibe, everyone seemed to get along like family which gives this place the ultimate vibe check. Walking through the stores you hear employees and customers talking, singing, and laughing almost like family. This adventure took us to the Shops at La Cantera, one of his favorite shopping destinations. Unlike a traditional enclosed mall, La Cantera is an open-air shopping center where you're strolling from store to store in the Texas sunshine. Considering we've had what feels like a month of nonstop rain, I was thrilled that Mother Nature finally gave us a bright, sunny day. While the rain has been good for the lawn and plants, I am definitely ready for it to stop. We started near Nordstrom and leisurely made our way toward Zara, popping in and out of stores along the way. One of my favorite parts of shopping is discovering what's new. I was pleasantly surprised to see several stores that had opened since my last visit. Exploring those new spaces made the trip even more enjoyable. You can find a variety of price points at this mall, making it appealing to a broad range of folks. By the end of the day, my brother scored a few stylish pieces from Zara Men, while I somehow managed to leave empty-handed. Surprisingly, I didn't mind one bit. The best purchase of the day wasn't something that fit in a shopping bag...it was quality time spent catching up, sharing plenty of laughs, and enjoying a leisurely afternoon of shop surfing with my favorite shopping buddy...my big brother.

One of the places in San Antonio she prefers is The Shops at La Cantera. It's this beautiful, high-end, open-air shopping center that honestly feels more like a park than a mall, thanks to all the shaded pathways, greenery, and water features. It's the perfect layout for a relaxed day out together, especially since we can stroll from store to store outside rather than being cooped up indoors. What makes it ideal for these outings is that it has a great mix of everything. His mom has a few specific spots she absolutely loves hitting up every single time, from the big anchor stores like Nordstrom and Dillard's to some of her favorite specialty boutiques. It really takes the stress out of our monthly outings because we already know the layout, the parking is easy, and there are plenty of spots to grab a bite when she needs a break. It's just a consistently great experience every time we go.

Wall to wall floor to ceiling Fiesta goods from fiesta dresses and shirts, pinatas, dolls, flowers, everything bright and colorful and handmade by south of the border artisans. Some prices are super affordable, like paper flower hair wreaths and Lele dolls. Other items like embroidered fiesta dresses are pricier. I paid $38 for a child's fiesta dress but she looked so cute in it that it was worth it. There is also a Dia de los Muertos museum and large area of items to purchase. If you can't find it here I doubt it is available. The whole place is a bright color explosion and the staff is helpful and available. There is a little eatery inside that I will review separately. All said and done this Fiesta at North Star is a bright visit to a fun place with that Tejano vibe that makes SATX fabulous.

Fiesta at North Star feels like a celebration or party! Talk about sensory overload...your eyes see nothing but bold colors. As you scan the room, you see bright embroidered pueblo dresses hanging from racks (still own a couple), strings of papel picado flying overhead, and shelves overflowing with decorations with the spirit of San Antonio's Fiesta. The store is bold, busy, and totally festive. The space is larger than it looks from the outside...deep and wide. There is virtually no dead space. Everywhere you look you find a new discovery...handcrafted items that reflected a deep connection to Mexican and Latin American culture. The store has a wide range of authentic Fiesta merchandise and cultural goods. In fact, I saw the tissue paper flowers, large and small, throughout the store. I have fond memories of placing one the flowers or a band of flowers in my hair during the Battle of Flowers or Night in Old San Antonio (NIOSA) parades. The decorations, music, and overall layout are designed to immerse visitors in the culture of Fiesta. Most items are pretty reasonably priced. However, the larger pinatas and more intricate items could cost more. In addition, staff is available throughout the store to assist you. The old filling station converted into an antique shop has no AC and doesn't open until 11 on Fridays, so during the summer in Texas it is already pretty hot by then. There was a public bathroom in the middle of everything so that was nice. Also stopped by cheetahlish boutique store and barely got in the door before the guy running the register made us feel unwelcome by immediately stating that there really wasn't enough aisle room for us. Needless to say, we left pretty quickly after arriving. Would like to come back to see John T. Floored and restaurant and music venue. Lots of big and small artists seem to come through

Freight is such a great gallery space! They've really transformed Gallito Studios, and made it a…read moreclean, well lit, easy to navigate art space! The place has really opened up their space- it used to be crowded with a maze of tight cubicles of gallery and studios. Now, it's a wide open central gallery, with studios and smaller galleries off to the sides. In the front, they now have a coffee shop! Cool! In the back, they've paved in the side and back yards, where bands set up, and additional galleries can be found. All of the art is local, handmade, and ranges in media. Some of the art can not be purchased, as they are installation pieces. The art here is all reasonably priced, and there's a great variety of artists and vendors selling cool stuff. This place gets hopping for Second Saturday, a monthly art walk that centers around the galleries by the train tracks at South Flores. The art is just part of the scene- check out the live music too! Budding artists can rent space here to do their art, and sell it when they have events. Other than Second Saturday, you might need to book an appointment to come by many of the artists' galleries, but it seems that coffee is served all day.

Anyway, it is a great mall great shopping well laid out very clean. Very safe has nice parking options, including a garage and a couple of different places that you can use. I used one of the garages this morning outside of Dillard's. Helped shield the car from the heat and me too. :-) I really do have a great selection of stores and shopping and they also have good prices that can be found, including great sales and some of these wonderful flagship stores and the mini special entrance stores inside the mall.

These days we go once or month or so to take his mom shopping for things she needs. Her go-to spots are Saks and Dillards. You can tell that back in the heyday of malls North Star would have been deemed awe-inspiring. The mall itself is very clean and spacious with all of the typical shops you expect to find (anchor stores, smaller stores, etc.). Lots of food options including The Cheesecake Factory and others. Easily accessible from the highway. And, who can forget the best part and my favorite part? The legendary and ginormous cowboy boots sculpture(s). In fact, the largest boots in the world.

But I had to use the restroom and they told me they did not have one for customers. It's quite a large store so you could spend quite a long time in there looking for some gems. To not have a restroom for the public with such a large store is unacceptable. The manager told me they used to have one before Covid, but it never got fixed. Covid was four years ago, and I believe if the store, and any store like it, cares about their customers, would keep them comfortable so they could shop and spend their hard earned money there. But sadly, this was not Vera accessories in Huebner Oaks. It makes you wonder what else they're not being honorable about. Very sad. And unfortunate.
