Love the location! Heart of Southtown, near the Riverwalk and trails. After we rode a 20 mile bike ride, we were ready to grub down at Blue Star Brewing. A perfect day to eat outside , the six of us sat at an outdoor table. Our server was friendly and the menu had something for each one of us. We ordered fried mushrooms for the table and it came out pretty fast. The mushroom texture was kinda rubbery and others said the beer cheese dipping sauce had no flavor. We then put our drinks and lunch orders in. I really enjoyed the peach fruit geyser-beer. Thereafter, service went downhill. We noticed all customers that came and ordered after us were getting their food before we did. We were starving ! We had to flag down our server to find out was going on. After a long wait, our plates slowly started coming out. The turkey avocado BLT was pretty good- thick cut seasoned turkey, delicious thick cut bacon, I don't remember tasting much of the avocado, and I enjoyed the sourdough bread and fresh salad. 1) I called ahead to try and call in an order to-go, for the staff member to inform me that they can't take phone orders. 2) My husband went in to order and wait, mind you they only had like one waitress and one bartender, and no more than two tables seated. Service was friendly enough, so that's where the star came from. 3) When we opened our meals at home the quality of the food was horrible. He got a brisket grilled cheese, the bread was faced cheese side out and brisket was dry . I ordered the pig pie and it was served in two tiny containers, both containing only mash potatoes and soupy shredded pieces of pork that looked like cat food soup. Neither container had any roasted corn or cheddar cheese. The mash/pork soup was very salty and tasted old and smelled bad We were extremely disappointed. First, Do you like your beer icy cold or cool? IF you like it really cold, this is not the place for you. Food took awhile even though we were the only customers, but when it came, it was excellent. The garlic and parmesan cheese won the meal for us. Service was good, music was nice and classic rock. Seating inside and outdoor has a nice patio with umbrellas on a wooden deck. This is a nice spot off the beaten path in San Antonio. I only had the beer, but the service was top-notch and the house brewed beers were quite good. The patio was large and comfortable. Was excited to try food and beer at this brewery in Southtown. It's a great location! So that's what it's got going for it. Service was not good either. Our server took a while to take our order and we had to wait awhile, and then after we got our order, our server didn't really come by to check up on us. We had to wait and wave them down to get a water refill, I wouldn't recommend the food. Fries were not crispy and super bland. The sandwich was mediocre. Wished there was more pastrami. There was only a layer or two of meat but usually places stack it. The German plate was pretty sad. The beers we got were mostly sours. If I am in the area, I'd come back to try more beers but I probably won't get food next time. If you're in the area and wanting a drink, I recommend it. I met my friend here for lunch. I arrived early. I waited at the host stand to be seated. After waiting for 5 minutes, I grabbed some menus, went outside and sat myself. I saw a server and she said that's okay. It was around 1140 on a Tuesday afternoon. I sat outside with some other people. It's a cool vibe and you can bring your dog. I ordered a sangria. The sangria is nothing special, but it was refreshing. My friend eventually showed up and ordered a Dr Pepper. 10 minutes later he still didn't have his Dr Pepper. We asked somebody else. Then we were told they don't have Dr Pepper. But they have Mexican Coke. He ordered that. It took a while, but somebody brought us a fountain Coke with ice. She said that was a Mexican Coke. He tasted it, I tasted it. There's no way that's a Mexican Coke. Are we going to complain? No. We are hungry and have been waiting forever. The food finally arrived. I had the corned beef sandwich with fries. The corned beef was tasty. Some of the fat could've been trimmed. The fries were old and a little cold. My friend ordered the brisket tacos. He said they tasted funny. Once he took off all the salsa. It was better. The salsa was old. If you're going here for lunch, expect to wait a long time. We were told the kitchen was backed up, but there was not a lot of people. Customers on the patio looked frustrated because the service was terrible. This place needs better management and some help. I hate to give bad reviews, but my experience here was so horrible I owe it to other diners as a public service announcement. My boyfriend and I each ordered entrees. He ordered a Ruben sandwich and I ordered the salmon. His entree arrived within 15 mins and I was told mine would be arriving shortly after. After another 10 minutes our server came back out to let me know the kitchen was backed up and it would be longer. I found this a little hard to believe because we were literally the only people left on the patio and there were only 3 tables inside. After another 20 mins my boyfriend finished his entree and I asked him to just cancel mine because after 30 mins I could tell they clearly had forgot to put my order in and I no longer desired to eat it. He cancelled the entree and our server came out to say "the kitchen literally just finished making it, it'll be comped but do you want to take it to-go?" Which we replied "yes". She then returned to tell us that the kitchen refused to put it in a to-go box and that if I wanted it I had to eat it right then and there. Our server seemed as baffled as we were from this statement made by the kitchen.. Blue Star won't be a first choice for beer or food unless you're in the area. That doesn't make this brewery a bad option, it's just a perfect okay one. The beers are all pretty standard and inoffensive. They're great if you're with your dad or just need a drink after a run. Get a flight and you'll see what I mean. The food is your typical bar food - lots if fried things and many shades of beige. The best thing about Blue Star Brewing is the service. The waitress I had was one of the best ever and made sure I was taken care of and thought of. The bartender was also almost at that level. They deserve all the praise. Be sure to check out events here as they do lots of fun outreach programs and they even host astronomy nights! Parking will be a pain. If you don't parking in the Blue Star parking lot, drive half a block east and you'll find free street parking. read more

I grabbed a beer here with a friend and our dogs one afternoon. The weather was great and it was a lil busy inside. I was told to be seated and someone will be out shortly to take my order. I wanted to try some local San Antonio beer and I wasn't disappointed. The Spire stout was an oatmeal stout, standard in taste and mouthfeel, it was on nitro so it was especially smooth. Amazingly HORRIBLE. We had a baby shower in their event room which looked beautiful but if was ridiculously HOT. All of our guests and friends were dripping with sweat. We notified the staff and they said there were having trouble with the HVAC. Maintenance came in to check it and he made it worse. All of our guests informed us they fell ill afterwards. My hubby and I only had a limited time to enjoy a quick bite to eat without the kids so I didn't have a chance to look up reviews before picking a place. If I had seen the reviews, I definitely would have chosen a different place!My hubby wanted to enjoy some cold beer on tap with our meal so we decided to check this place out since we were nearby. We dined outside since it was such a beautiful day. There were no actual menus so we had to scan the QR code to check out the menu on our phones. We were greeted in a timely manner, the waitress was very pleasant. My hubby ordered a beer and I ordered a Southtown Mule to start off with and for our meals we went with a salad with chicken tenders and a turkey melt. I was surprised that the beer selection wasn't better with it being a brewery and all. As far as the cocktails, all are made with beer since this establishment only has a beer and wine license so keep that in mind if you prefer cocktails with liquor. My Southtown Mule was just okay. It was a bit too sour for me and reminded me of a cheap sport's bar drink. The turkey melt was a bit disappointing to put it nicely. The turkey was dry and they forgot the tomatoes. At least the bread was perfectly toasted and the fries were homemade and were actually good. I was STARVING so I didn't feel like waiting for the order to be corrected. I asked the waitress for ranch Dressing which definitely saved the sandwich and made it somewhat enjoyable. The salad had 2 super large core/butt end chunks in it. I don't know about you but I don't really enjoy having that in my salad. It just shows pure laziness, that says a lot about the care that they put into their food. The chicken tenders were average, not bad but not exactly good. Again, ranch Dressing saved yet another food item. The only reason that I'm being generous with the three stars is because the homemade fries were good and so was the ranch Dressing. The ranch definitely salvaged our meals! We left feeling disappointed. When you have kids and you FINALLY get some adult time for a quick date, it's extremely frustrating when everything is sub par. Sadly, we won't be returning. read more

Beer: Blue Star Brewing has some delicious beer, let's get that right. They are always coming up with new creations and all of them are fantastic. If you'd like to take some of their beer home, you can do so by purchasing one of their growlers. Their growlers are pretty affordable and definitely worth it. Food: This is where things get a little 3-star ish for me. I've been coming here multiple times, and their food is never consistent. Sometimes it can be excellent and other times way below average. I also think their food prices can be a bit overpriced to what they are actually serving. Service: If you sit in the bar, you'll definitely get a 5-star service, but outside of the bar gets a little flaky.
