The service was great and so was the food. I reluctantly had the oysters on the half shell but I did and they were terrific. They were plump and large and tasty. So given my experience with the oysters I decided on the soft-shell crab special and boy was I glad I did. The were large and meaty and I enjoyed them very much. My wife had the fried scallops which were perfect. Lightly fried and cooked just right. I had a side beet salad and it was perfect. Could have used a little more vinegar. Only complaint was that it was much too noisy. Couldn't even understand the person across from me it was so load. Really could use some acoustical sound deadening material on the ceiling. read more

At first glance, well...you might glance away and keep on driving, because it seems like one of countless little restaurants you might pass as you're zooming down a highway, focused on work, family, vacation, or other concerns. In fact, there's a good chance even I had passed the restaurant on more than one occasion. But don't do that, it's a huge mistake! Because as I discovered recently, every meal you miss at Blue Stone Inn isn't just lost deliciousness, it's an opportunity gone forever to break bread with friends and family in the kind of space that makes you long for a world that no longer exists - familiar, welcoming, old school. The Blue Stone Inn isn't fancy. It's rustic. And please don't read that as a criticism, it isn't. It's definitely nice. I realized I was vibing hard, loving the atmosphere, the people, the vibe. Service was prompt and courteous with the familiar feel you only seem to get in smaller towns these days. And the food - OMG. Most of us started with a salad and the house bacon vinaigrette. And the breadbasket - so, so good, but don't fill up on it! Because all the food is To. Die. For. We then quickly moved on to various steaks. My ribeye was insanely delicious, cooked perfectly, with an excellent baked potato to round out the meal. My dining buddies upgraded to the steak-and-seafood combos, which were apparently also quite good. I skipped dessert - too much bread early on. But the delicate, beautiful, generous slices of cake my friends had ended the meal on a perfect note. Can't recommend Blue Stone Inn enough. Be aware that if you go, it seems there are some homeless cats in the parking lot and around the restaurant. Super friendly, I suggest bringing some treats for them. It's got that classic local charm without trying too hard. Service was friendly, . Staff seemed genuinely kind. He told me he had worked there seventeen years! Food-wise, I ordered on the light side. The French Onion Soup was hot but lacked flavor. I also had a salad. It was well-portioned and fresh. I also ordered the shrimp cocktail and it was not edible. Shrimp were small and rubbery. The menu has a nice mix of comfort food and grill staples, and prices felt fair for the quality. Overall, Blue Stone Grill is a dependable choice in Harrisonburg. The warm, flaky dinner rolls, were accompanied by a sweet maple butter. The jumbo fried shrimp were juicy with a crispy breading. The crab cake was limitless with crab, minimal breading, and expertly seasoned to accent not overwhelm the crab flavor. The mashed potatoes could stand on their own, not even needing a gravy helper! On my birthday I get to choose anywhere I want to go for dinner. This steak and seafood place is wonderful! My husband gets French onion soup and steak. But, for me I always get their sea food and their homemade hush puppies just hit the spot. I always get to have it that night and the next day. It's a romantic night out for my husband and I. The ladies that wait on us are always so nice. They seem to know just the right time to come and ask if we need anything. This restaurant is a very old small tavern. Very intimate, untouched, out of the way place, where the years has left this bungalow restaurant unchanged. I swear the locals keep a secret. Terrible food! The steak was completely unseasoned, the sides were inedible, the bread was stale, and they didn't even pack our baked potato in the to go order. First of all, the food here is great! The seafood as well as the steak is well prepared. Their homemade sides and daily specials are always good, too. The salads are packed with lots of colorful vegetables and mixed greens. But we most enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly service. Come early if you can, because they fill up fast! I was recently there with some family I had not seen in a while. We stayed long after the bill was paid and the staff was so gracious and didn't rush us at all. They cleared the last of our plates and assured us we could continue to stay while they cleaned up. They made us feel so welcome and let us know they were most interested in us enjoying ourselves. This was a regular haunt for us twenty years ago. Visited tonight and it lived up to our memories. My wife had the crab stuffed trout...the absolute best we have ever had. I had the seafood broiler sampler. Crab imperial, scallops and shrimp. Great hush puppies. Three beers on tap included a very nice amber ale, Bud Light and another. We ordered the smoked trout appetizer and it was great. My wife and I ordered the fried seafood platter and ribeye steak to split with our picky eater kids. Came here on a Wednesday night 8:00pm with my husband (they are white), mother in law, niece and my 3yo. I asked for a Heineken and was asked to show proof of ID (I'm Asian and I left it in the hotel by accident). I had two pictures of my military ID and Driver license on my phone to show them and they said "They cant do that". Meanwhile my husband and my mother in law asked for alcohol beverage, didnt have to show ID. I wouldnt recommend dining here at all. Not happy with the service at all. read more

My coworker and I found this place on a business trip. We LIVE for fine dining and fancy food. THIS PLACE IS NOT THAT! We couldn't figure out how this place had four stars and deduced that it must've come from the business's family members. . The bread was ice cold in the middle, still frozen! When we asked to have it reheated, we were told that she was not allowed to put bread back into the oven or microwave it. We were brought some more instead, but this batch was just lukewarm. The ambience was dark and depressing with far too many animal heads looking at us. The menu selections were good however, what they actually had in stock was limited. Ohhhhh myyyy goodnesssss!! What an awesome little oasis on rt11! We have been traveling interstate 81 for 30+ years and have never stopped here. We have been missing the best little restaurant, seafood as good or better than at the beach, and steaks you can cut with your fork. Our crab cake was huge and delicious!!
