We are visiting from Florida and thought this might be a cool place for lunch. It does have a rustic vibe, if you like that. Their food is locally sourced, which is a positive. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived around 11:30. We were seated right away, but did wait longer than anticipated to place our drink and food order. We probably waited 45 minutes to get our food, which seemed too long based on the fact that there were only two tables to serve at that time. Our food arrived warm, not hot. My spouse ordered a special for the day, pork loin with mashed potatoes and gravy. It arrived with no gravy and it was a small portion. He said it was tasty, though, with the gravy he asked our waitress for. I ordered the BLT sliders with my request to add cheddar cheese and fried potatoes. I thought there should be more than one piece of bacon per slider, but the meal did taste fresh and flavorful. I am not sure that I would return, but I am not sorry we gave them a try. I was too hungry to think about snapping pics, but the steaks were cooked well, the pork belly confit was unique and delicious, and the house made rolls were perfect. We also enjoyed their seasonal peach spritzer and sangria and loved them. A nice restaurant in an old mill that was involved in the Civil War. There is a museum and a gift shop plus a little park area. The service was good. They had a few items from the menu not available: the hanger steak & the prime rib. They have limited liquor drinks but beer and wine. They had a separate room for our group and everyone really enjoyed their meals. Good seafood and vegetarian options. I would come back again. read more

Edinburg Mill was a brilliant surprise, and a gem in the Shenandoah area. My wife and I had prepared by bringing groceries with us from NoVA into our Shenandoah cabin. But after a few days, we wanted to treat ourself and Edinburg Mill delivered! Located in a small town, and then found in the basement of an ancient mill, the ambiance was quickly set. The menu had a decent selection but what immediately set it apart was hearing from our waitress that much of the food was locally sourced. We started with the tea smoked ribs (Chinese inspired) appetizer and my wife said they were the best ribs she'd ever had. I ordered ribeye with a salad and fried potatoes. She got the risotto. My steak was perfectly cooked (I asked for rare) and she couldn't stop smiling in between bites of her risotto. In fact, I'm getting hungry thinking about our meals. One recommendation is to call ahead to make sure you've got a reservation. It doesn't fill up but there was only one lovely waitress serving and she mentioned a large party coming at 7pm. She suggested swinging by around 6:30 so we'd have time to order and get our food before the big group. I wish we'd come by earlier so we could check out the historical mill and more of the town. read more

Went here for lunch on a Sunday. We didn't have reservations so we're told wait time would be about 30 minutes, we got seated in about 15 minutes. I got fish with a salad and kale. They make their own salad dressings and they were real good. The fish was tender and moist. The kale was outstanding. We had a chef salad and steak that were excellent. The rolls were salt crusted and very good. Kids meal was good and made the little one happy. One had shrimp and they were tough and a little under seasoned. The beans were not seasoned well. My wife had beef vegetables soup and it looked great with huge pieces of meat, however it was sour and neither of us could even eat it (almost gave a 3 star or less just for this), but my meal was so good I had to balance things out and our server did a great job. When I questioned our server who was doing her best, she said the kitchen had gotten behind with a party of 8. We have visited this restaurant several times so far. Every dish is delicious and substantial. They have a curated menu of entrees that include seafood, steak, and chicken dishes. Also, although I'm not typically a salad person, their jalapeño vinaigrette makes the house salad a real delight. But save room for dessert! They have a small selection of fabulous house-made treats that you don't want to miss. I recommend calling to make a reservation, since their hours are somewhat limited and it is clearly a local favorite. read more

I have seen few menus that made me as excited as this one. Seriously, when I first saw it I began planning my next trip just so I could sample more food. The vibe, decor, and staffing are all equally excellent. Really enjoyed meeting the people there and you couldn't ask for a more historical location. Unfortunately the dishes could still use some fine tuning. The salad needed to be served on a larger bed of lettuce and the shrimp in the shrimp and grits needed to be seared with spices to add more character. That is not to say the food was bad, but that it was missing something. I get the sense that the market has forced them to increase there prices, which I can understand, but I think in doing so they have crept into a level of fine dinning that if they are not prepared for. If they want to remain at a $30 per plate restaurant they need more faience. Tighten up the plating game and your recipes. I hope this place continues to improve and I am excited to see where they are at next time :)! read more

Just finished dinner at this cool little spot. I ordered the side salad, with house-made herb vinaigrette, flat iron steak-medium, fried potatoes, and flour free chocolate cake for dessert. Cons: The house made herbal vinaigrette tasted overwhelmingly like oregano. And they have a very limited vegetable selection. That's it! Pro's: Deeeelish! We were staying nearby in a cabin about 3 miles from here for a couples weekend getaway. On the drive in, we had detoured through the town, and noticed how gorgeous this old Mill looked. After poking around online, we decided to make this the main dinner outing for the weekend. Originally, we had planned on going to a very fancy restaurant about an hour away, but the proximity of the Edinburg Mill Restaurant to our rental cabin swayed us. We are SO glad we came here instead. This isn't going to be the most fancy place you'll ever dine...That being said, it was easily the highlight of our trip, so much so, we ended coming the following night as well, and had to pack up the groceries we brought for dinners that we never ended up making. Get the fried oysters, get a second and a third order too. The prime rib my girlfriend had was stellar. On the first night, I got the scallops-- dynamite. My buddy got them both nights. The filet was very good, and perfectly cooked. I had the catfish the second night and I'm glad I did since it was obviously fresh, local, and just really well prepared (the hot sauce that comes with it will make you want to kiss the chef). The sides are great, the zucchini squash definitely was a standout. Get the pecan pie-- I wish I would have gotten a whole pie to-go. Their crème Brule is also delicious. The first night involved several bottles of champagne -- this place is very low key, but nobody seemed to mind that we were all having a fantastic time and a lot of fun. All of the staff is very fun, inviting and helpful. Everyone was practicing proper Covid procedures as well. To boot, they played a ton of Grateful Dead, which really made our nights even more epic. Also, they have it decorated perfectly for the holidays. We are looking forward to many more dinners as we plan to visit Edinburg regularly over the coming years. I will very seldom give 5 stars nor tip big, but every thing for my birthday dinner was perfect, so here goes: My wife was craving scallops and all the local seafood places were out; a staffer from this restaurant answered my Facebook post. Coffee was great, unusual beers were reasonable, salads came w homemade dressings & super sweet Bermuda onion! Sea scallops were best we ever tasted and worth the high price; same as a pound of giant steamed shrimp. Very Happy! read more

We were there for over an hour, and never got our lunch. There were two other tables with people; the place was basically empty. The servers and hostess were lovely, and after waiting for 45 minutes for our sandwiches (yes, we only ordered sandwiches) we were told "everything is made fresh but your order is up next." We waited 15 more minutes, but then absolutely had to leave to make it to an appointment, so asked if we could get our sandwiches to-go. They then told us it would be "only another 10 minutes" until our sandwiches came out. We paid for our drinks and left, hungry and disappointed. The biggest compliment I can pay to this restaurant is when you eat, you can really tell the chefs are putting the work in to make food from scratch. They use a knife, not a can opener. They took the time to peel and slice the fried potatoes, not just open a bag of frozen fries. The salad dressing was flavorful and made from scratch, too. The pan sauces were flavorful and made from a variety of ingredient's that took time, such as the pesto chimichurri. We'll be back. read more

We were looking to take something back to our Airbnb - the cheeseplate and some dessert. However, the server let us know that they were too busy to cater to carry out and that we had the option to wait an hour and dine in if we wanted the cheeseplate. We just decided to stick to the dessert which was good but not excellent. The building itself looked charming and historic and so I'd probably go again to dine in. read more

While driving from DC to Staunton, I stopped here for dinner with my boyfriend and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was. We both decided to order the Prime Rib for $25 (cooked perfectly medium rare) which comes with 2 sides. For our first side, we both decided to try the house salads which come with HOMEMADE DRESSINGS. The blue cheese dressing was delicious and the greens were very fresh. For our second side, we both ordered the baked sweet potato which comes with whipped butter and brown sugar that melts right into it... YUM!! The only part of the meal we did not enjoy was the risotto balls with ahi tuna. It was kind of bland. Everything else was delicious though. And honestly, you get enough food with your entree that you don't really need an appetizer. I will definitely be back the next time I am driving by! read more

After getting married the day before, I decided to take my new bride on a day trip to Luray Caverns, from our home in the Northern Neck of Virginia. She planned ahead and looked for restaurants in the area, and suggested the Mill. After our awesome visit to the caverns (she had never been before,) we took the 30 minute ride to Edinburg. The exterior of the building is beautiful, and it sits next to a rolling creek. There are several ducks that call the area near the restaurant, home. We went inside, and were a bit discouraged at the sign announcing that no one without a mask would be seated, but went inside anyway. Apparently that is an old sign and we were seated immediately. The interior was absolutely amazing, and resembled a medieval beer hall. The only thing missing was the long tables, full of bearded men, ready to conquer England. The heavy timber columns and rafters really gave the dining area an aroma of history. Our server, Gillie, was training a young man, and was very good. We ordered crab dip as an appetizer, and we both ordered the prime rib. A few minutes later, the server came back and said she had "tragic news." The kitchen had apparently ran out of prime rib. No problem for us, I got the Ribeye, and my wife got the Hanger Steak instead. The crab dip was a bit different than we're used to, as we're both Maryland natives, and hold anyone who serves crab dishes accountable for their quality. The blend of crab meat, mushrooms a nd grape tomatoes, with just the right amount of cheese was really interesting and delicious. When the entrees came, both steaks were tender, cooked just right and the portion size was perfect. The sides of a baked sweet potato, fried potatoes and pickled beets were also 100% on point. Even the bread and side salads were fresh, and tasted amazing. One of the things I LOVED about the service, was that we never felt rushed. They put just enough spacing between the appetizer, the salad and the main course, that as you finished each one, you were starting to get your hunger back, and the next item was served. They didn't try to load the table every two minutes, like a chain restaurant, so you don't waste anything due to being overstuffed. We passed in dessert, but I'd imagine those dishes were probably great too. All of the food is locally sourced and made fresh. I don't even know if they have a freezer. If you're in Edinburg, or the surrounding areas, stop by! They also have a wine shop and a small museum, but both were closed before we arrived. read more

Extremely SLOW service with zero apology or communication. After waiting for over an hour and a half for our meal and waving down our waitress, we finally got served. Food was pretty good but it was cold and I didn't want to send it back and wait even longer. They were obviously very understaffed. Despite reservations, way too slow. Not much of a beer menu- no draft choices. Menu online and printed in restaurant does not match what's offered. We were traveling and were lucky to land at the Edinburg Mill Restaurant. We were told that everything was made in house so it was not "fast food," and it was definitely worth the extra time. The ambiance of the historic building was warm, cozy and relaxing. The service was impeccable in spite of the restaurant being nearly full. We were not interested in a large dinner and got soup, salad, appetizers and vegetables. All were delicious. We saw seafood entrees like shrimp and scallops that looked amazing and the server said the restaurant is known for steaks. We will definitely go back and highly recommend. At the suggestion of our B&B host, hubby and I popped in for dinner on a Friday night. It's a good thing we showed up early (5P) because without a reservation, we almost didn't get seated they were so booked! When the website says, "RESERVATIONS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED" they aren't kidding! And if you're tall (5'10" or over), be prepared to duck, some of the beams on the ceilings are LOW. You don't want to start your dinner off with a knot on your head. The waitress was warm, friendly and very capable. She took our drink order and brought them and bread right away. The rolls are TO DIE FOR! We both ordered specials (surf & turf - fried oysters and peach pork chop) and those were wonderful too, but hubby couldn't say enough about the fried okra! It was the best he has ever had, so if you are a fan, that is not to be missed, if it is on the menu. We didn't have room for dessert, so ordered that to go. The chocolate pecan pie and buttermilk pie fillings were delicious. We enjoyed our meal so much, we came back the next day, but were sure to make reservations as it was a Saturday night.
