After a very exhausting hike nearby, the boyfriend and I decided to stop in for some hearty sandwiches. I saw the great reviews and was excited to give this place a try. But then walked I waslked into one of the slowest/strangest services I've had in a long time. I immediately ordered an ice tea because I wanted something refreshing after being in the sun all morning. Then somehow the server just completely forgot about us, even though we were the only customers actually eating inside. I stared as my ice tea in a to go cup continued to sit on the counter, glistening with condensation, beckoning me to reach out and parch my thirst. Perhaps the server didn't want to rush us? Maybe he just forgot he made my iced tea and went to go do something else. I'll just wave him over. Oops, he went outside and started chatting up some other customers. Like 15 minutes later he comes in and does a double take on us. He totally forgot about us! It was more funny than anything. He apologized, handed me my tea and took our orders. Food: Yeah, I know that was a long intro. I said all of that to say it was already 2 in the afternoon, we were starving and I wasn't super please with service thus far. That is until the server apologized and spoke to us a bit and we found out he is just an ultra chill guy and wasn't done purposely. Also, the food was outstanding! I ordered the Po Boy and the boyfriend ordered the Cubano. Both sandwiches were a tad nontraditional but incredibly delicious. Rather than having a heavy fried shrimp with sauce and lettuce, this one came with huge, plump grilled shrimp tossed with the remoulade sauce and cabbage. The Cubano, just as huge as the Po Boy tasted meatier than most Cubanos, not as cheesy and was topped with some hefty pickles in the middle. Overall, the food far outweighed the few extra minutes we had to wait for our drinks and convinced us to return next time we're in the area. read more

If you're ever in the area and need genuine laughter, genuine service and amazing food, this is the place. Robert takes pride in his business and still connects with his guests like no other restaurant I have been to. He has a genuine soul and will make you laugh with his jokes!! Great place for lunch or dinner on the way to or from Shenandoah National Park or Skyline Drive. Lots of local color - local art on the walls, Virginia beers, and a very friendly staff. But I digress - the real reason you need to go here is the SHRIMP! Marinated, grilled shrimp. I can't remember how many I ate - maybe 40 or more, but they are really to die for. I consider driving all the way from DC to Front Royal just for those shrimp. Anyhow the beer is also very good and local. When driving through Ft Royal and looking for somewhere to eat I didn't expect to find cool and funky place with great food and a wonderful host. We weren't even in the door when we were greeted by a man in a colorful shirt who greeted us like old friends. He proceeded to escort us in, explain the menu and offer us dessert! The place is decorated in a funky way with local art on the walls. Our group of three ordered all different things but they were all delicious. The side veggie (which was on my chicken plate and my daughter's salad) of roasted squash was superior. The place is really hip, and easy on the eyes. However, lunch menu is very limited. I ordered a Cubano sandwich. It's just not what I had envisioned. Little meat within the sandwich, mostly consisted of bread and I'm not a fan of their special sauce. The garlic roasted potatoes are delicious. I found the prices to be extremely high for lunch. Safety first? We went here Sunday, a full week after the last snowstorm. The road out front was dry and fully clean. The parking lot was not plowed, no salt, no sand, just a solid sheet of ice. Stopped in on a whim, it was a Tuesday night if I recall at approximately 5:30 PM. Place was fairly crowded with only one server. Upon request we set ourselves and we're not approached for at least 10 minutes. We gave our drink order as well as two entrées. Our drinks came about five minutes later and ended up waiting another 20 minutes before we requested that our meal be packed up "to go". We paid for the meal and ate at home. Food was just OK. This place was so good! Staff was super friendly and food was delicious. A little on the pricy side but everything was fresh and delicious. Before our food came, someone came around ("you look famished") and gave us each a fresh-out-the-oven ginger snap on the house. AMAZING. I could eat those all day long. The Cubano sandwich was awesome. So much meat and the perfect amount of cheese and Dijon mustard with crispy flavorful bread. I didn't care too much for the plantains, as they were a little too dry and overcooked, but the sandwich itself was worth it. I love the decor and friendly atmosphere, and parking is easy. What a gem. The food was fantastic. We ordered the hummus appetizer, the shrimp tacos and the burger with provolone cheese. The burger meat did not need any condiments; it was so flavorful. We went here for dinner. When we walked in, we were greeted right away by a gentleman and made us feel very welcomed. I really liked the vibe at this place, it's very cozy. Although the food may be delicious, a group I am in has had 2 unfortunate experiences with this restaurant. In Front Royal they were not ready for the group and said that someone from the kitchen was sick. Today they were not ready for us in Strasburg and when reminded of our experience in Front Royal she blamed that on the group not walking in together. We did not appreciate the insinuation that their problem was our fault and chose to leave for another restaurant. We had waited for menus and not been asked about drink orders after 15 minutes. After reading about this interesting restaurant on social media, we stopped in for lunc on a weekday, while in the Front Royal area. We were immediately greeted when we entered by a lovely and friendly lady working behind the counter. She explained how the menu worked and about their drinks. We looked over their menu and had a hard time finding a couple of entrees for lunch, as they have soooo many very interesting items and we wanted to try several different things. Ultimately, we chose a several items including sandwiches, cole slaw and falafel fritters... The falafel fritters were very tasty and nicely seasoned! They came with a very interesting sauce that was made from tofu and dill to dip them into. The "Death by Pork" sandwich was amazing and constructed perfectly with lots of flavor! The Rueben was decent, but quite dry, but some extra sauce helped it out. The spicy cole slaw was really tasty and I loved the rough cut on the cabbage in it, instead of the typical dice or shred. We were in Front Royal at the butcher shop and stumbled across this place. It's got a great vibe to it. The owner (at least I think he was the owner) was super nice and friendly. We were there on a weekend afternoon so the menu was a brunch. The menu choices are pretty limited but we didn't mind. I got the burger and home fries. The burger was really good and home fries seasoned really well. And it was only $15! The burger bun was fantastic. It was all fresh ingredients and all the breads are freshly made in the restaurant. My wife and I came to Front Royal on a bit of a whim (NOVA based) and, honestly, the owner's responses to some of the ridiculously salty 1 star reviews drew my attention. I had to check it out for myself. Well, from start to finish we had the best experience. During/Post COVID (however you want to define where we're at now) I think it's pretty clear that the service industry hasn't quite rebounded, but we did not notice that at all here. We were greeted promptly, the owner stopped by to personally welcome us after we sat down, and the service was excellent. There was one large party and several smaller parties during lunch on a Saturday and no hiccups at all. Most importantly, everything here was delicious. The shrimp was quite possibly some of the best shrimp I've had in years, the burger was cooked perfectly, and the Po'boy was wonderful (obviously, since the shrimp was so damn good). It ended up raining so we didn't get to explore Front Royal too much, but that works for us because next time we come we will definitely dine here again. TL;DR: you can safely disregard the few 1 star reviews for this restaurant. And whoever said the food was "bland," definitely needs to get a COVID test. read more

I stopped by Blue Wing Frog after a day in Shenandoah...now, this restaurant is definitely a place I will re-visit on my next trip back! I came on a weekday evening, and it wasn't very crowded. They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. You go up to the counter to order (I got a brief overview of their menu and was informed that basically everything they sell is homemade, including all their sauces, breads, etc.! They also try to have as much as possible be from local and sustainable sources. How awesome!). The food takes awhile to be brought out, but I was more than willing to wait for freshly prepared food. And it did not disappoint. I had the skrimp dinner, which was definitely a good choice. Amazing grilled shrimp, roasted veggies, a delicious rice, cole slaw, and awesome house-made sauce to go along with it. My boyfriend had the Blue Wing Burger with roasted potatoes and loved everything about the meal. We finished up the meal with a couple of cookies (also made in-house) which were also great. Quirky causal little place. With fresh local yummy food. Certainly worth checking out. Came on a Saturday with a busy farmers market going on down the street. Upon arriving a note on the door wait they would be open at 1, which was only a few minutes away. Who I assume was the owner opened up the doors and cheerfully greeted us and the other group waiting, thanking us for our patients and welcoming us inside. He handed us menus at the counter, said we could sit anywhere we like, and then when ready, come to the counter to order. My husband got the death by pork sandwich and I got their tomato and cheese. We also got their goat cheese to start. The tomato and cheese seemed under seasoned in my opinion, needed rosemary, basil or something. But was still fresh and yummy. But overall very yummy and we will certainly me back. My husband quickly devoured his sandwich, but I snagged a bit before it was gone. It was very good and tasted like thanksgiving in a sandwich. Yum. Fresh yummy food that can't be beat. This is how restaurants should be. Casual, friendly, laid back, with local, fresh produce that is flavorful and delicious. Was driving through Front Royal and made an effort to stop by here for lunch because it had great reviews and sounded like a great local joint to try. Robert the owner was super friendly and outgoing. He gave us a 'tour' of the menu and when we asked about Iced Mulled Cider, he let us try some. He said they make everything from scratch except for the ketchup and one other thing. Sounds good to me! I got the RK's Famous Skrimp Po-boy - super messy to eat but good flavor. I have a high spice tolerance so I didn't think the chipotle remoulade was spicy at all. Great flavor and because of the lettuce, the creamy sauce wasn't too heavy.
