This was a lovely serendipitous experience in Strasburg. We were welcomed as friends into a cozy dining area. I had a delightful blood orange greens salad and shrimp and my husband tried the Twisted Phillie Cheesesteak sandwich. Great place for lunch or dinner on the way to or from Shenandoah National Park or Skyline Drive. Lots of local color - local art on the walls, Virginia beers, and a very friendly staff. But I digress - the real reason you need to go here is the SHRIMP! Marinated, grilled shrimp. I can't remember how many I ate - maybe 40 or more, but they are really to die for. I consider driving all the way from DC to Front Royal just for those shrimp. Anyhow the beer is also very good and local. On the minus side, the service could be faster, and they could invest in some better patio furniture. read more

The place is really hip, and easy on the eyes. However, lunch menu is very limited. I ordered a Cubano sandwich. It's just not what I had envisioned. Little meat within the sandwich, mostly consisted of bread and I'm not a fan of their special sauce. The garlic roasted potatoes are delicious. I found the prices to be extremely high for lunch. When driving through Ft Royal and looking for somewhere to eat I didn't expect to find cool and funky place with great food and a wonderful host. We weren't even in the door when we were greeted by a man in a colorful shirt who greeted us like old friends. He proceeded to escort us in, explain the menu and offer us dessert! The place is decorated in a funky way with local art on the walls. Our group of three ordered all different things but they were all delicious. The side veggie (which was on my chicken plate and my daughter's salad) of roasted squash was superior. My chicken was tender and delicious and accompanied by a sauce that was like taziki but different. Everything was amazing and service superb. Well done!! read more

Safety first? We went here Sunday, a full week after the last snowstorm. The road out front was dry and fully clean. The parking lot was not plowed, no salt, no sand, just a solid sheet of ice. Stopped in on a whim, it was a Tuesday night if I recall at approximately 5:30 PM. Place was fairly crowded with only one server. Upon request we set ourselves and we're not approached for at least 10 minutes. We gave our drink order as well as two entrées. Our drinks came about five minutes later and ended up waiting another 20 minutes before we requested that our meal be packed up "to go". We paid for the meal and ate at home. Food was just OK. Not sure if we will try again. Wish them well as they are local to us but they certainly have improvements to make in terms of expediting dinner in a timely fashion. Although the food may be delicious, a group I am in has had 2 unfortunate experiences with this restaurant. In Front Royal they were not ready for the group and said that someone from the kitchen was sick. Today they were not ready for us in Strasburg and when reminded of our experience in Front Royal she blamed that on the group not walking in together. We did not appreciate the insinuation that their problem was our fault and chose to leave for another restaurant. We had waited for menus and not been asked about drink orders after 15 minutes. This place was so good! Staff was super friendly and food was delicious. A little on the pricy side but everything was fresh and delicious. Before our food came, someone came around ("you look famished") and gave us each a fresh-out-the-oven ginger snap on the house. AMAZING. I could eat those all day long. The Cubano sandwich was awesome. So much meat and the perfect amount of cheese and Dijon mustard with crispy flavorful bread. I didn't care too much for the plantains, as they were a little too dry and overcooked, but the sandwich itself was worth it. I love the decor and friendly atmosphere, and parking is easy. What a gem. The food was fantastic. We ordered the hummus appetizer, the shrimp tacos and the burger with provolone cheese. The burger meat did not need any condiments; it was so flavorful. The shrimp were wonderful seasoned and plentiful. The tacos were accompanied by a spicy and tasty peach habanero salsa. We topped the meal off with their banana cake with espresso icing. It was the best banana cake we had ever had - it was so balanced; not overly banana-y and perfectly paired with the espresso icing. Wow! Just kick the door down! This NYer was floored. We went here for dinner. When we walked in, we were greeted right away by a gentleman and made us feel very welcomed. I really liked the vibe at this place, it's very cozy. Blue Wing Frog has good service, good food, and some pretty cool decor. For starters, they have a very beautiful wooden wine cabinet. They also have a gigantic picnic table. As for the service, it wasn't lightning fast, but it also wasn't bad either. I had to wait some time for them to prepare my order, but the staff was extremely friendly the whole time. We were in Front Royal at the butcher shop and stumbled across this place. It's got a great vibe to it. The owner (at least I think he was the owner) was super nice and friendly. We were there on a weekend afternoon so the menu was a brunch. The menu choices are pretty limited but we didn't mind. I got the burger and home fries. The burger was really good and home fries seasoned really well. And it was only $15! The burger bun was fantastic. It was all fresh ingredients and all the breads are freshly made in the restaurant. My wife and I came to Front Royal on a bit of a whim (NOVA based) and, honestly, the owner's responses to some of the ridiculously salty 1 star reviews drew my attention. I had to check it out for myself. Well, from start to finish we had the best experience. During/Post COVID (however you want to define where we're at now) I think it's pretty clear that the service industry hasn't quite rebounded, but we did not notice that at all here. We were greeted promptly, the owner stopped by to personally welcome us after we sat down, and the service was excellent. There was one large party and several smaller parties during lunch on a Saturday and no hiccups at all. Most importantly, everything here was delicious. The shrimp was quite possibly some of the best shrimp I've had in years, the burger was cooked perfectly, and the Po'boy was wonderful (obviously, since the shrimp was so damn good). It ended up raining so we didn't get to explore Front Royal too much, but that works for us because next time we come we will definitely dine here again. TL;DR: you can safely disregard the few 1 star reviews for this restaurant. And whoever said the food was "bland," definitely needs to get a COVID test. read more

After reading about this interesting restaurant on social media, we stopped in for lunc on a weekday, while in the Front Royal area. We were immediately greeted when we entered by a lovely and friendly lady working behind the counter. She explained how the menu worked and about their drinks. We looked over their menu and had a hard time finding a couple of entrees for lunch, as they have soooo many very interesting items and we wanted to try several different things. Ultimately, we chose a several items including sandwiches, cole slaw and falafel fritters... The falafel fritters were very tasty and nicely seasoned! They came with a very interesting sauce that was made from tofu and dill to dip them into. The "Death by Pork" sandwich was amazing and constructed perfectly with lots of flavor! The Rueben was decent, but quite dry, but some extra sauce helped it out. The spicy cole slaw was really tasty and I loved the rough cut on the cabbage in it, instead of the typical dice or shred. The place is eclectic and interesting as well. I really look forward to going back next time we're in the area! (Would love to try their Po Boy!) read more

What an amazing find! We stopped here before hiking to pick up food to go and everything was so amazing! If it weren't for COVID, we would have loved to dine inside because the place is cute and a beer would have been nice, but I digress. The servers and the guy who may have been the owner were all so nice. I ordered the veggie sandwich with tofu, my partner ordered the chicken sandwich and my son had the grilled cheese. My sandwich was so good, the veggies were fresh and the flavors were wonderful. My partner loved hers too, she couldn't stop talking about how good the chicken was. Everytime I walk in BWF, I come out loving it more. Hubs and I shared the shrimp po boy and tofu appetizer yesterday. A little fyi: when you come in, walk to the counter to retrieve a menu and to your right you can get a glass of water to drink while you pick your food. When you are ready to order, return to the counter. They have soups of the day on the board in the corner by the register, and their menus are printed every single day- so do not return thinking you forsure will get the same item again. I was a little bummed by the amount of tofu in the appetizer for the price, but the sauce they serve it with makes you want to lick the bowl clean. The shrimp 1/4 pound makes you think you accidentally ordered the wrong quantity because it is bigger than your face. Shrimp, lettuce, onion and peppers slathered in some amazing sauce that also will make you want to lick the plate clean.
