All the locals recommended this place to us, so we had to stop in for lunch. It was uncrowded when we arrived (kinda between lunch and dinner service it appeared) but our server was sweet and helpful and didn't give any indication that we (or the other two couples) were in the way while they were getting geared up for dinner. We had cheese-steak sandwiches and garlic fries, a decidedly un-fancy meal, but we're simple folk... And it was GOOD! The place is adorable, quaint, full of character. Good food and a laid back atmosphere with a southern feel to it. They have a porch which is very pleasant to sit at in the warm summer afternoon. Worst dining experience ever! Had heard nice things, so I called to make a reservation. Was told it wasn't necessary that night, just come on in. When we arrived we were seated immediately at one of the last tables available indoors. The room was attractive, the atmosphere nice. Took quite a while to place our order, then the fun began. My GF's raviolis arrived along with something other than the tri-tip I ordered. The runner took away the plate intended for me. I urged the GF to start on her dinner while it was hot. After a lot of back and forth and milling around by the server and the runner we finally realized that the order delivered to us was meant for another table which had been seated after us. After that it took nearly an hour for my entree to arrive. During that time the bartender was GLARING at my GF, and when the plate arrived I was asked if I still wanted it! A mixup in communication between server and runner or other staff is something that happens once in a while, but the obstructionist, bitter attitude we received was inexcusable. We remained polite throughout, and even had a laugh with the people whose food we received when we figured out what was going on. We will not return. Update: Several months after this posting I received an email from the owner of Blue Wing Saloon. I thought it was good of him to contact me and apologize. Still don't plan to go back. read more

All-around delight! From the exterior to the bathroom, charming! Our food wasn't fancy, but fresh & delicious. I had soup of the day, cup of broccoli cheese soup (which must have been leftover from the day before, because when the table was seated next to us, the server told them the soup of the day was tomato spinach ), which was tasty, & a mixed greens house salad with a very light-handed vinaigrette, with a cherry tomato & 2 slices of cucumber. My husband had the cheddar bison burger, which is from the local bison ranch. He also had sweet potato fries--wow, fresh out of fryer & delicious. Our server was fine. We got there about 11:30, & as we were leaving, it was getting busy. It's a small place, apx 10 tables (?) on one side, & large long bar on other side. Understand covid protocol and other things but, have never felt so judged and disrespected in my life. This restaurant was recommend to us during our visit to Clear Lake. The atmosphere is very nice but the food was extremely disappointing. The pasta sauce was old and had no taste. The lamb salad dressing was just pure balsamic vinegar. Only redeeming food was the bread and sweet potato fries! They were out of Chardonnay, which I found very odd as we were in the wine country! I've been coming to this restaurant, rover about a year now, every time I go I say "I'll never come back. "Everything is way overpriced for the area, service is absolutely unforgettable horrible, takes 20 to 30 minutes to get a beverage, when they only have four tables in the entire restaurant. Depends on who's cooking the food, sometimes it's amazingly delicious, and sometimes it's disastrously nauseous. What a horrible, horrible experience. We waited for 1.5 hours and poor customer service about our food, as we waited and did not receive any food or update on when food would arrive. After inquiring about our hamburger orders and blue wing chicken and spinach dip, we decided to cancel our appetizers hoping to get our hamburgers . After waiting another 15 minutes, we were told that our burgers would be ready in 15 minutes. We decided to leave and not wait another 15-30 minutes. Where should I begin....we came in this evening with my family and I've never been so disappointed. We had a reservation for 6pm and were seated promptly. It took over 10 minutes to even be greeted by our server and even longer to receive our drinks. Our cocktails were not tasty whatsoever. The drinks were not shaken or stirred and tasted like straight liquor which is extremely disappointing give the delicious description on the menu. We received our food an hour after ordering. The burger was missing the bacon and the steak which was ordered well done was closer to medium....not to mention the steak was served with a BUTTER KNIFE not a steak knife. I understand this was their first night opening during the covid pandemic but the service was inexcusable. I expected so much more especially because their were half the amount of tables and the inside was completely closed.So much for our 1st dining out experience...$100 to be completely let down. This used to be my favorite Sunday brunch spot. Alas, the service and the food were really subpar. We had reservations for the patio, and it was a chilly, damp afternoon. We were seated under a broken heater, and refused the option of moving to the next table, which had working heaters. The service was slow and sullen, our food was cold and over cooked. The people who were seated in the next table received their food 10-15 minutes before we did even though we were seated before them and our food was cold and over cooked. This place seats in a small no stop light town. Very rustic. The place out front is a knock-off from an old wild west saloon. Once inside the bar to the right start the feel cowboys should be at the bar . WHERE IS THE SPITTOON!! Anyways, I would recommend outside dining beside the waterfall area. They have added umbrellas to cool the dining...NICE. The food menu changes monthly ,so the choice will change. I had the Caesar salad with salmon. They took it back because I'm not a fan on pan fried fish. I feel salmon should be grilled only. Anyways, second option was grilled chicken that was a little dry. Four of us had dinner last night. There was a very limited menu, as well as a BBQ special you could order. We all opted for the special, as there wasn't a lot to chose from on the limited menu. It was buffet style, so we went outside and served ourselves. The hot food (salmon, tri-tip, ribs) were all cold. The one salad was subpar and the appetizers (2 of them) were not good at all. All of this for $30 per plate and you were only allowed to make one pass. I have been to The Blue Wing several times and the food has always been good. Very nice Restaurant find in this small town! Lovely outdoor seating space that is casual and decorated with lights. They have live music on weekends and the food is wonderful, fresh and delicious. I had a burger and the meat was flavorful, perfectly cooked and the chef was fine with making it dairy free for me as well as changing up the garlic fries to exclude butter. I always appreciate when a restaurant is not confused or suprised by an allergy and welcomes a change. My wife and I have eaten here twice now and we really enjoy eating at the Blue Wing. The cafe is beautiful both inside and out. We have dined one meal in each setting. Our most recent dinner came just tonight with our kids. We ate outside in a nice courtyard with a pleasant breeze and plenty of shade every where. The place was unusually busy for a Monday night, I overheard a regular tell his friends at the table next to us. Our waitress was busy and we saw very little of her. It's too bad, too, because we wanted desert but weren't willing to wait another 30 minutes for it to arrive like our dinner took. In fact, I had to go walk inside to find my waitress to request our check. The food was incredible and because of it, we will return. Clear Lake isn't much for nice atmosphere and great food settings, so Blue Wing is the place to go. It's pricey but worthy of your presences. read more

This place is unusual in that we send people here all the time with absolutely no doubts about what their experience will be - very positive. It's also a favorite of mine because of the atmosphere and consistency - I've never had anything but a great meal here. The Blue Wing Saloon is a recreation of its namesake which was torn down during Prohibition. The present owners crafted this place with the intention of building the best restaurant in the area and succeeded admirably. The wood paneling is old growth redwood they found in the adjacent Tallman Hotel during its remodeling and the bar is actually carved from a huge tree that came down when the Saloon was built. It's really cool. More often than not I've had the stroganoff, which is always good. I've also had pork dishes, steaks and burgers all with the same results. Good food at a fair price. Not cheap, but worth the bucks. I also like that the bread that comes before dinner is actually good stuff, not the cheapest thing the owners could find. Good bread does make a difference and, like a clean shirt, makes a positive first impression. You know what's coming is going to be good, too. It's the same very competent and enthusiastic wait staff every time I go which means that you know they know their stuff and earn their solid tips. As other reviewers have said the Blue Wing is very supportive of live music and has several nights a week with some really good bands as well as an open mic night where some surprisingly talented locals show off their talent. There is a heated patio which is a good place to be during the live music because all musicians everywhere believe that louder is better. The patio is pleasant and you can still converse. The Blue Wing would be right at home in a big city and would do well against other big city restaurants, but it's in quaint Upper Lake where there are all sorts of little local shops along the covered sidewalks and nobody charges for parking, and there's plenty of it. read more

Loved the live piano playing in the background, had a great steak sandwich I split with my husband, the tomato soup was AMAZING. If you're at all in the vicinity you really should stop by The Blue Wing Saloon and Cafe, whether you're gluten free or not. It looks like a cute blue house on Main St, but it's actually a nice eatery, with a pleasant little outdoor patio. As the evening went on it really did seem to be the place to be. The menu is simple, but still something for everyone, and as I discovered the chef is flexible and willing to accommodate you. Our waiter was super nice, and informed me that I could have the calamari appetizer ($9), as the chef would use cornstarch instead of the normal flour mixture. And since the place was so small, they just had one fryer, but dumped the old oil to fry them up for me. I love deep fried calamari and have not had it since going gluten free so this was a thrilling moment for me, and you better believe that my husband and I ate up every last bite.  For the main course I ordered the fish special of the day ($19), which was grilled halibut (no breading) with mango salsa, rice pilaf, and broccoli. Everything on the plate was excellent.  We loved the food so much that we went back for lunch the next day before we headed on our journey home. This time around we each ordered a burger, mine without a bun, and we both agreed they were some of the best burgers we've had in a long time. On a scale of 1 out of 100, with 100 being "the best ever" I give this place a 90, and my husband rates it a 92. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere. read more

Hmmm... always has been a favorite of mine, until today. I was told they don't serve Roederer sparkling wine anymore and they moved on to only local lake county wines. This is fine for Mendocino county, Sonoma, napa, but lake county just isn't there yet. I've yet to find fairly decent wines out of lake county, and a restaurant should NEVER not offer a high end sparkling. Believe me you aren't going to find a decent sparkling in lake county. That being said their food is better than their wine selection, which isn't a good thing. Come here if you don't enjoy a nice wine with your food. read more

Such a cute resto. We came here on a Monday night to find live music and a lively crowd...and delicious food! Definitely try the arancini-- they have goat cheese and sundried tomatoes that make them oh so yummy! We also had a couple salads and soup that was tasty. Didn't get to try the entrees but judging from the apps, they can't be bad. Really cute setting-- they have heaters outside so you can sit year round. Its also on a "main" street where theres lots of shops and probably the only retail in this area of Clear Lake. The shops were mainly shut down by the time we got there though, which was only about 7:30 pm. I did dock a star because there were kids flying around this place, which is no fault of the restaurant, but beware if you're looking for a romantic spot. read more

My (our family's) absolute favorite favorite restaurant to eat at every time we come up to our vacation home. We are from the Bay Area and I must say this is one of my all time favorite restaurants. We have never had a bad experience...well one time another customer was cursing in front of my young children, but the waitress caught it and moved us away from them. I never had to say a word. This restaurant is also my 7 year olds favorite restaurant. Added bonus is the decor.... you really feel as if you went back in time and walked into a beautiful saloon. I love this place. It is probably my favorite place in all of Lake County. But something is different here. I ordered garlic fries, a bucket of garlic fries. I was in a hurry and was going to ask for a to go container, but when I started to move the fries I noticed the "bucket" was only half full. The rest of the "bucket" was filled with paper. It was not really a full bucket of garlic fries. Hmmm...when the check came it was for a burger, a bucket of garlic fries, a house salad, and a cola, which came to $22 something and I added a $4 tip. This was my first visit to the Saloon - and I absolutely loved it! My husband and I had heard it was a hidden gem, and I have to say it really is. We went for Sunday brunch and sat outside in the garden courtyard where a musician was singing nice songs. The first mimosa, juice, or sparkling wine is complimentary with brunch, and then refills are only $2 - great price for a mimosa! I am a vegetarian and usually struggle for food options when eating out - but not at the Blue Wing - I had the Veggie Cake on a Kaiser roll - their homemade rice & veggie patty which tasted light and fantastic. Their Sweet Potato Fries were some of the best I have ever had - light and crispy with a wonderful flavor. My husband had the Eggs Benedict and thought it was really good. I would have given them 5 stars, but for two things: the restroom smelled heavily of urine, and the bartendress was obviously stressed, and as we sat at the bar waiting for a table, she constantly vented her frustrations to other staff right in front of us. I understand everyone has a bad day, but it shouldn't be addressed in front of guests. All in all though - I will definitely be back! read more

While we stayed up at Clear Lake, we were looking for a local place with good atmosphere, and most importantly good food. Blue Wing was recommended to us, so that's where we went. Dinner was tasty, my wife had a good looking salad, and my burger was great, their fries are crispy and we quickly devoured them. They have some great beers on tap, a really nice bar and a lot of friendly people working inside. We stopped back by for a little snack the next day.
