Had the $20 Tuesday special - a chilled potato soup to start (delicious), main dish was pork loin with pineapple salsa (a little dry but well seasoned and big portion), spanish rice, and cucumber salad (sides were both good but nothing to write home about). Dessert, also part of the special, was a really yummy mixed berry parfait. There was live music, which is always nice, and great outdoor seating. The service is really great here. Just want yelpers to know that maybe they should call ahead for late dinners. Really wanted to try this little gem in Lake Co on a road trip, but was turned away at 8:30 on a Sunday night because they said they were full and close at 9. They sat the couple that walked in the door literally right before us. I'm pretty annoyed since we could hear a different table paying the bill and complimenting the waitstaff on their meal (so their table should have opened up within 15 minutes). It smelled amazing and the ambiance was adorable. We used the restroom before continuing on our long car ride unsatisfied. At least I can say that the restroom was clean and well-stocked. Also the hostess was polite when she turned us away and suggested another subpar restaurant down the road. Every other restaurant I've ever been to or worked at would have offered for us to wait since they post hours until 9 pm and they should have had a table open before that so we could order before the kitchen closed. read more

This place was great. Driving through clear lake and was hungry so went here based on some reviews and it was definitely worth it. First off the atmosphere was very mellow and relaxing like an old time saloon. I started out with a scrimshaw pilsner which u had never seen and it was great. Then I asked for a recommendation and the bartender(very cute short haired girl) told me they had a tri tip sandwich special. Sounded good so I got it with garlic fries. Definitely worth it, not a shred of disappointment or buyers remorse(which I always have). Asked the bartender if I could buy her a shot but she couldn't drink on the job. Oh well. This place is so good. This is my second trip. The first trip I had the vegetarian burger. Today I had the special which was a pulled pork sandwich. Best pulled pork I'd ever had. I followed it up with local Blackberry Crumble pie. The ambiance is fantastic. Fountain, jazz and a shaded courtyard. Katie was my server and rocked it!, working both inside and outside at lunchtime. We are from out of town and came here on our 10 year anniversary by recommendation of the owners of the Feather Bed Railroad owners. The Food was amazing we got really lucky and they had a cancellation which we didn't realize we would have needed one so be sure to call ahead! The food was Fanatic it was a little pricier than I thought I would say this is more of a $$$ than a $$ but I had the lamb chops with apricot that was mouth watering and my Husband had the Elk and Wagyu burger that he LOVED! I had the mozzarella beet salad and hubby had the hamburger with garlic fries. Delish ranch sauce! Our 5 year old happily ate every bite of his personal pizza. It was a hot day so before we went out I called to make sure they were open and what their seating arrangements were. A very friendly lady answered and inform me they are open and have outdoor seating. Once we arrive there was a young lady at the gate entering the patio. She asked, Do you have reservations? I looked around they have tables spaced 6+ apart, most are empty. I told her when I called an hour ago I wasn't told I needed a reservation. She said, Sorry I can put you down for Wednesday. Really? No, thank you. We headed back to the car. I was upset so once in the car I called to speak to the manager. I was upset so my daughter spoke to her. She was very friendly and apologize for the miscommunication. She stated there was cancellation and could seat us if we would come back. My daughter really wanted their deep fried green beans so we accepted her kind offer. I ordered the three appetizers she wanted: deep fried green beans, calamari and buffalo bbq with blue cheese. The deep fried green beans were tasty. They are served with a side sauce that compliments them very nicely. The calamari is mixed with deep fried breaded shrimp, also served with a side sauce. I was not impressed with this dish. The buffalo bbq wings were smoked and sprinkled with blue cheese. My understanding from the waitress is smoking the wings is new cooking method . My daughter said she prefers the way they cooked them before. I didn't like them. We took some wings to my son-in-law. he didn't care for them either. My daughter had been coming here post COVID-19 for over two years. She really likes the staff and food. She especially likes the bartender, loves her personality and makes great drinks. Everyone absolutely cooperating to have a safe environment on the shaded and very pleasant patio. And the ravioli were amazing. Sauce included fresh corn, right off the ear. I love eating here. What a treat to have a nice Cobb salad and iced tea on a hot Sunday driving through Upper Lake on our way home to Eureka. We have stopped here before and always liked the atmosphere and food. Little old fashioned mixed with fresh food and classy drinks. It was the only time we went out to eat during our 8 days of camping and vanlife during our "Covid vacation" . They were very clean and the whole place was outside seating. That would've been enough but the kicker was that I actually left my rings at the table. I guess I was feeling pretty relaxed. A few days later I realized what I had done so I called them. Not only did they have my rings but the sent them to me at no cost to me. I sure hope I left a big enough tip. As long as this restaurant is open I will be a patron. Next time I think I'll plan to rent a room and try one of the alcohol drinks from the beautiful bar. read more

What a nice unknown gem located in the quaint little town of Upperlake CA. You could miss this spot if you blinked on Rt 20. The town of Upperlake CA known for its native Pomo Indian history has a small town main street with allot of history and is shared by the Tallman hotel paired with the Blue Wing Saloon. Don't be misled by the local pub feel. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Their menu although not large has a wide range of fair to complement the chefs skills. I've eaten here a few times and probably ordered most everything off the menu without disappointment. If you are ever passing through stop off at the local tribally run casino, shop at one of the many antique shops on Main Street, but definitely stop at the Blue Wing and grab dinner and a cocktail. read more

Finally found a nice place to eat near Clear Lake Oaks! The atmosphere was very nice, the service was great. The food was good but not great. It is too expensive for a local to frequent. Where's the "beef" - meaning, not enough protein in this mooshy (similar to mushy) dish where I picked vegetables out of the thick sauce to eat - only one of which was fresh (asparagus stalk, not tops). Shared that and a mooshy veggie burger with my husband. Flavor of that was pretty good, but I don't care for a non-solid consistency. Absolutely adore this place! My husband took me on a surprise weekend away to Upper Lake and we saw this place in town. The charm and history of this old saloon mixed with the twinkling lights in the courtyard was magical! Even though we were outside on a night that was below 40 degrees out, we were kept very warm by the heaters and cheerful staff, they even brought us blankets! They let us bring our dog and even gave him a special seat so he could sit next to us out on the veranda. Not only was our waitress Ally so sweet and helpful as well as our hostess but the food and drinks were amazing! My husband and I both got the short ribs beef stew with polenta and were beyond pleased! Will come here again anytime we are in Lake County.!!! read more

Very cool little place in the middle of Main Street Upper Lake, CA. Lots and lots of history on this and the Tallman Hotel next door (same owners) - too much to list here. One real cool fact, the bar top was made from an ancient tree that was in the backyard that was rotten and had to be taken down. It now makes a beautiful bar top - worthy of a visit if only to belly up to the bar and have a nice chilled cocktail. Anyways, I had a caesar and the hanger steak. Little known fact, the hanger steak, also known as the "butchers" steak, is just a small piece of very flavorful meat that "hangs" from behind the diaphragm. Anyway, I ordered it, it was very tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The caesar was also very good - both items would be my choice the next time around. Last weekend was my birthday celebration. Please hold your applause. My husband took me on a limousine wine tasting tour in the Clear Lake area. Wine tasting is great because you get to get all snookered in the middle of the day with other snobby alcoholics, and it's totally socially acceptable. After a wild day of too much wine and not enough food, we stumbled over to the Blue Wing Saloon, slammed our fists on the counter, and demanded grub... which they delivered with a smile. My husband had arranged for a cake, specifically lemon or carrot, my favorites. My husband is naturally sweet, unlike the giant carrot cake they brought to our table. For some reason, when my man booked the romantic weekend for two, including the preordered cake, at the adjacent hotel (see Tallman Hotel review), the Saloon thought we would invite 25 of our closest friends to enjoy a sheet cake with us at the restaurant. (See my photos to understand the complete enormity of the cake.) They got a pre-fab cake from a grocery store instead of making a smaller one themselves. It was grocery-store-tastic. We had a great, drunken laugh about it with our new-found wine tasting friends. Four stars because, despite that miscommunication, the food was good, and the Saloon is the only game in town, so you don't have much choice, anyway. Five stars for my husband for planning a whole weekend of fun, and then being able to keep it a surprise for a whole month! read more

While sitting at a table on the back patio watching a blues band wail it out and eating an amazing meal I couldn't help think to myself where did this place come from!? Lucky for me I had my handy dandy yelp app in the middle of nowhere California and I was able to find this amazing little pub. Set back in the dusty little town of Upper Lake, is this amazing little treasure. The food here was superb, the ambiance hit the spot and the live music made this one of the stars on my trip out to Clear Lake. I couldn't believe the great music and good times being had. I'm not sure if this was just a Memorial Day weekend thing, but it blew me away. I had the Fish and Chips, cooked to perfection accompanied by some amazing slaw which always is a huge plus in my book. I think my brother had the burger which looked pretty doggone good and I saw a clean plate with no complaints so A+. I found the price to be fairly cheap and the service was great. Overall I highly recommend anyone driving through town or in the area to go here ASAP you won't be disappointed! read more

If you find yourself in Lake County's Upper Lake, the Blue Wing Saloon & Cafe is an utterly delightful place to stop in for a meal or a drink (of wine or beer, no hard stuff). The ambiance perfectly executes warm country elegance. The restaurant front, cute Main Street strip it populates and court yard it shares with the historic Tallman Hotel epitomize all that is quaint and inviting about the country. The menu selection is solid but not exciting. I found the prices to be inflated for what was offered. And while some dishes were delicious, others really walked the borderline of being acceptable. Avoid the brine pork chops on their winter menu unless you like super salty meat. The salmon is generous in portion and cooked to succulent perfection in a lovely glaze. And the risotto balls are a fun and flavorful appetizer. The spinach salad presentation underwhelmed me and made me feel like I wasn't getting my money's worth (or my boyfriend's parent's money's worth), but it turned out to be very tasty and the lemon vinaigrette was absolutely yummy and very lemony. It complemented the port wine glaze of the cherries on the salad perfectly. The wine selection is representative of the local vineyards and wineries and offer a nice variety of options though it is not large. Service was spotty and perhaps the most underwhelming part of the meal, which was just our bad luck because other servers seemed more extending and competent. Our server at first seemed fine and just a little spunky in the attitude department, but he turned out to be lazy and lacking in professionalism. Still, the experience was enjoyable and a welcome change from the fast-paced city life. I'll be glad to give Blue Wing another shot in the future. read more

Great local place with upscale decor and style. Based just on the adorable fall decorations outside, I was so excited to try this restaurant/saloon next door to our hotel. We first came in to sit at the bar for a couple drinks before dinner. I was looking forward to some forward-thinking cocktails but unfortunately, the pre-mixed mixers disappointed. HOWEVER, the service was fantastic, the bartender Sadie was great and the setting was perfect for a mid-afternoon drink. We came back for dinner and sat out on the courtyard. What a great, romantic setting! White twinkling lights set the stage for a relaxed, easy meal. I was slightly apprehensive that the food would feel "pre-packaged" based just on the drinks, but we were so pleasantly surprised with our delicious meals. We split a few appetizers: the wedge, the charcutterie & cheese plate and the flatbread. The wedge was seriously to die for. Deliciously fresh iceberg and tomatoes, tangy Roquefort dressing and crispy bacon bits. I would go back again and again just for that wedge- so simple, yet SO good. The charcutterie was also delicious: plenty of food for the 2 of us with generous sized pieces of bleu, goat and brie with crostini, pears and 2 types of meat. The flatbread was also delicious and the perfect end to the meal. Lastly, the selection of Lake County wines is fantastic. We had the Eden Creek Meet-n-Greet and it really was fantastic. A great setting, slightly overpriced menu and spotty service, but the best we were able to find on the north side of Clear Lake. We were promptly seated in a very cute outdoor table, under a lovely tree and next to a fountain. The Tallman Hotel is right next door and adds to the ambiance nicely. It's a lovely outdoor seating area that I could easily see as a reception area for a small wedding. Very cute. We were handed menus by the host and it took a while for someone to come around and take our drink order. Once they did, it arrived in reasonable time but we didn't get to place our food order for quite a bit. Then, when I waitress did come by she was rushing us and being very unfriendly...later, I tried to change my order and she seemed pissed off. In the end, we got some decent food. i was a bit bummed cause I was looking forward to the salmon dish they seem to call their signature dish but there was some event all day so they were only serving BBQ pit stuff so I ended up with tri-tip. I was actually schocked when my plate arrived...for $18 they gave me two slices of meat that were fairly thin and small. I mean it was plenty as I'm not a big meat eater but it even looked silly on my plate! My boyfriend got about 3 times as much food on his plate...the baked beans were amazing and the corn on the cob overdone...watery almost. Overall, I had a good meal cause I liked the setting and the company and I was pretty darn starving, but I doubt I'd go back as the service was rude and not very responsive to our needs. In the end, the mosquitoes were impossible so we asked one of the service folks if we could finish our wine at the bar as we were done with our food. He said of course but then our waitress came by at the bar and made a total sarcastic remark about us moving as we pleased...I was floored. read more

I am so in love with Blue Wing Saloon Restaurant! Tucked away in Upperlake, it's so quaint and very cool. Katie our server, a woman with sterling wit and charm, has a very reminiscent jazz station coming over the speakers there. I was transported back to my childhood New England restaurant that I loved. Katie really made our visit there comfortable and easy. She goes beyond the call of duty in loving her job. Great woman. I literally had an altered experience while sitting there in this refurbished 1800's saloon. The lamb burgers were great (ask for a side of Tsaziki sauce), the Blue Moon beer was cold and refreshing, the fried goat cheese salad with lemon vinaigrette, Delish! Katie recommended we go next door to the Tallman Hotel and get a tour of their rooms with the Japanese hot tubs. I can't wait to go back there! read more

So, I have eaten at the blue wing many times over the years. We went again for the first time in about 8 months. Once agin I found myself disappointed in the food. Being a vegetarian that eats fish I still only found 2 main dishes I could order. I had the scallops that would have been good had they not been floating in butter. The sides, white rice, green beans. The rice was okay but brown basmati would have been a better choice. Not being a fan of green beans I found them to be the best thing on the plate. The butter from the scallops ended it up getting on everything, not very appetizing at all. That calamari starter was very nice. But a bigger portion would be nice. I have eaten here five or six times and really want to like this place, but two experiences now have kind of soured me on it. We had a great "New York New Year's Eve" dinner (9:00 p.m. celebration) last year and have had a couple of yummy brunches. But one time we brought our two small dogs to a Sunday brunch, planning to sit on the patio and eat. Since another customer already had a dog on the patio, and on a previous visit we had seen a pit bull with its owners on the patio, we thought it was dog-friendly. Rather than simply disabuse us of this notion, a man (we think it was the chef) came to our table, stood there becoming apoplectic and so angry he could barely get out the words that "this is our dining room!" and that dogs are not permitted. I apologized and mentioned the other dog already there and he stomped away. We simply got up and left. We tried going back a week ago for brunch (without the dogs) and were told they were out of quite a few menu items, including eggs - why wouldn't a restaurant open for brunch send someone to the nearby grocery store for eggs? Somehow, they did have enough eggs for an omelette (maybe Eggbeaters?), and I ordered one without the crumbled bacon inside, since I don't eat pork. When it arrived, it did contain the crumbled bacon, which was difficult to pick out. I dared not send it back since I wasn't sure I'd be able to get another, but did politely mention the situation to the server. She became very quiet except to all but whisper "the chef sends his apologies" at the end of the meal. This is a lovely place and I've mostly enjoyed what I have eaten there - happily, they did offer a vegetarian option for the New Year's dinner - but these two visits were off-putting, and I'm not sure I loved it enough to try again. read more

I had to work the Lake County/Clearlake metropolitan area, starting tomorrow actually. I was just trying to find a decent restaurant to eat at. It took me 3 stops to find Blue Wing. Started withe the casino,...restaurant closed, bar food only. Then I went to the Boathouse, restaurant closed, bar open only....they recommended the bbq joint nnearby..., wasn't feeling bbq. But they mentioned this place, Blue Wing, assured me it was too expensive...it wasn't. This restaurant has incredibLe food, table side or at the bar dining. Great selEction of wine and liquor lIbations. The bartender, Sadie, she knows her way around the bar and the kitchen and, I must say, I haven't had a better meal or dining experience in months. There was an exCellent acoustic guitarist playing subtle classic rock and the guests/other diners were very welcoming. A surprising oasis of good food and good service in Upper Lake. I had the Blue Wing Burger with blue cheese. Possible one of the best burgers I've had in a long time! Meat was juicy and smokey. The included side salad was fresh and crispy. My wife had the caesar salad with chicken, which was good but not as great as the burger. It could have done with a bit more variety and better (less?) cheese. The Riesling we had was sweet and zingy. Staff was polite, quick and well organized. The building had some nice period features and provided a good atmos. If you're looking for a proper lunch around Clear Lake, don't miss this one. read more
