A true lesson of you pay for what you get. I honestly don't know how this place has so many "good"reviews. My s/o took in a quilt that needed to have some repatching. First we never knew it was done. After a few weeks passed we called. Had to call repeatedly a few times because nobody answered the phone. Nga is so sweet but this work is unruly. I was so shook when I saw it in person I couldn't really respond because I was worried about crying in the shop. The work doesn't match and it's completely disregarding the stitch flow of the quilt. Yet another business that I almost hate to review -- because I don't want others to know about it! For years, I have bought clothes off the rack and taken them to tailors to get altered. And I have used dozens of tailors over the years.But, since finding Bluebonnet - which I have been using for probably 7 years now - I won't go anywhere else. Excellent work. Extraordinarily affordable prices. Others have commented that they wouldn't bring high-end pieces here. I have. I have brought $7 dresses from Goodwill that they completely converted for me - no problem. And, I have brought high-dollar designer dresses that they have fixed up, as well. I have no concerns bringing them anything. I go there kind of a lot - I may even be a regular. I still don't get the kind of turn-around service others have mentioned below (an item completed in a day, or even a few hours). Nor do I ask for it. I take it for granted that it will be about a week, and I am ok with that. I'm sure if I asked for a faster job, they could accommodate, but, I am also ok with planning ahead. (No offense, others. Just sayin' that I think a reasonable expectation to tell others is that it might be a few days.) Tip: Get the price ahead of time, especially since it's cash only. And, bring exact change. It is only polite. Tip: Everyone there is lovely. Some pin better than others. You'll figure out who is right for you. Tip: Don't count on a call-back when the item is ready. I might be biased but I prefer going to Viet tailors, they usually have the best price/quality. Like other people have mentioned, the shop is a warehouse and no real "dressing room." There's a room with a mirror where you can try on our clothes, but don't expect anything fancy. They were able to turn a size 6 zebra print skirt into a great looking size 2 and you wouldn't know the difference. Less than $20! When I came in one time, they were sewing exercise weights (bags with some stuffing). They literally do every type of sewing - from hemming jeans to making curtains. read more

I took a pair of new suit pants to be hemmed to Nga (pronounced Na) last monday (July 25). I told Nga that I would only be able to pick up the pants that following Thursday, needless to say, the work was done perfect. Yes, as previous reviewers mentioned, I had to go into the back storage room which serves as a makeshift change room but I already knew that going into the transaction - not a negative, so be prepared. I went back today at 12:30 PM and handed Nga another pair of pants and told her that I needed them ASAP. She was busy with another customer so she took my measurements and told me that she would call when they are done. Next thing I know, Nga is calling me at 3:15 PM telling me that the pants were ready to go. No other place that I called would even try to have them done the same day since it was so late but Nga told me that if I ever needed quick service, to come back and she would do her best - she beat even my expectations this go around. Would I recommend? Yes times 20! Please note that you literally have to walk in the warehouse door and tell her what you want done, no credit/debit cards are taken, and her "change room" is just a storage room - small concessions in a otherwise great experience. read more

Depressingly, my bridesmaids dress was too tight on me to the point where it would not zip up behind and the interior part that hugs around the thighs was very tight and uncomfortable. OMG THIS PLACE. I first started coming here 2 years ago when I needed 4 suits altered for business school. Nga was SO precise in her detailing and had all my suits ready in less than a week! The work was perfection and for under $100, a total bargain. Now here where things get interesting... I have the "privilege" of being a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding and the dress is from J. Crew. I'm a larger person, but certainly not obese. I'm 5'8" and 175 pounds and I wear a size 12. Well. I had to order the size 18!!! EIGHTEEN!!! And this damn dress STILL didn't fit because of a band around the rib cage. I'm in tears because it's less than 3 weeks until the wedding and I don't know what to do. But then I remembered Nga. Nga sees the dress on me and starts to get creative. There is literally no extra fabric to work with along the seam of the zipper. Nga took apart the ENTIRE skirt, made mostly of chiffon, gets the fabric she needed to expand the area near the band, re-rouches the fabric to have it match the rouching on the bodice of the dress and somehow gets this thing to zip up AND it looks like a million bucks. You could not tell at ALL that the alterations were not a part of the original dress. Nga made a couple of tweaks and I picked up the dress the next day. Total time? 8 days. Cost? $150. Not bad considering she had to completely separate the skirt from the bodice to get the necessary fabric and then reconstruct the back of the dress. I looked gorgeous (as possible as bridesmaids can) in the wedding photos and I had such peace of mind throughout the wedding weekend thanks to Nga and her team. Love these guys. A little sketchy, but they did a decent job. After reading some positive Yelp reviews, I decided to try and get a pair of pants hemmed here. The business is just off of North Lamar. It's a very disorganized, warehouse type of place and I wasn't sure I wanted to leave my pants there. Luckily, the pants were only $13, so I took a chance. A woman ushered me into a side room to put on the pants for measure. Afterwards, she had me write my name and number on a scrap piece of paper and told me to come back in three days. No receipt or voucher for my pants. She didn't even tell me how much it cost. The whole experience was so weird, I forgot to ask and left quickly. Three days later, I came back with some cash and medium hopes for seeing my pants again. But lo and behold, they were hemmed and the service cost only $10! The hemming was very neat and professional, although I think at least an inch longer than the length she had measured. Kind of defeated the purpose of getting them hemmed. Not a bad place, but a little too sketchy for me to return. I need an alteration service with structure and more professionalism. read more

Long story short, my dress was left untouched after 6 weeks. Inexperience and terrible communication. read-on if you are interested in getting details. I chose Bluebonnet because of all the great reviews they received... so on 7/6/18 I went and got fitted pinned up etc. I got a good quote and she told me it was going to take 2 weeks which I thought that was super quick. Fast forward 2 weeks, no call... so I call them, and I guess the main seamstress (Nga) picks up and said she was on vacation and just came back, and that the original person (sister) overestimated the difficulty of hemming my dress. Ok, that's fine so she said 3 more weeks, but it may be less. 3 MORE weeks later Friday, 8/10. NO CALL. I call at 11, and the sister told me Nga was at lunch and will call me back because she has no idea what's going on with my dress... It is now 3:45pm... they close at 4... I call and the sister picks up again, and I told her I never got a call back and she said "your dress is done you can come pick it up" So I asked when can I pick it up she said "Next Thursday" um what?! That's almost a week more. So I told her I would go in on Monday. She was really reluctant and said it had to be Thursday because she didn't know if Nga would be there. So I said "ok, make the appointment for Thursday, I'm still coming Monday to just look at the dress" Saturday - 8/11. I get a call at 8am from the Nga (finally!) asking me to go in to try the dress on to make sure everything will be done... great! I go in... NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO MY DRESS! None of the pins were even there. So I told her that her sister said my dress was done... Nga told me that I misunderstood her... I didn't... Nga told me she just got back from vacation (again?) and that she's taking over because she wants to make sure the dress is perfect and my dress is a challenge and so difficult that she was going to enjoy it. As she is remeasuring me she was telling me how detail oriented she is and how she once had a bride pay her double the quoted amount because of what a great job she did. She also mentions about a million times how difficult my dress is and get this... that I didn't have the "typical brides body" and it makes it even harder. WHAT?! So I ask "well you keep talking about how difficult my dress is... is there going to be a new quote?" And she said no, she would honor the quote given to me BUT if she were to quote me, she would quote me double the original quote... and so instead I should tip her that amount... Ok... so whatever, I will tip based on quality at the end... I will look past that comment. So I ask her about the bustle and she flat out refused to do one because there's no way to do one for my dress because it's so difficult. Well... this means I'll have to have her finish the hem and find someone else to do the bustle. I asked her how much longer and she said "a few weeks" and I was like "a month? 2 weeks? What does that mean?!" And she said "not a month". I left my dress there because I was tired at 9:30am on a Saturday. I tell people at work, and my family about this and they are livid and asked why she still has my dress and I just didn't want to have to restart the search this late in the game. Im also terrible at confrontation. So I made myself a deal. If they haven't touched my dress by 8/17 (6 weeks) I will go and just take my dress back. Friday, 8/17 - I walk in, didn't want to call them or make an appointment, just walked in... and Nga was shocked to see me... and I asked her if she has started on my dress yet. She said she did, but I looked into the sewing room and my dress was exactly how I left it. So I just asked for my dress back. She then says "well no, I was going to call you to schedule a time to come back in." And I said "when were you going to do that?" And she didn't have an answer and I said "that is the issue, you never called and my dress is still not touched! I need to have someone do the bustle too!" So she unpinned everything and gave me my dress back. So I found an amazing seamstress who never said my dress was difficult, in fact she gave me a weird look when I said "I'm sorry my dress is so difficult". Whenever I need some clothing altered, whether it is something simple like taking in a jacket or something, err...more complicated and embarrassing like altering a swimsuit top, Bluebonnet has been there for me ( Collective awww.....) Bluebonnet Cut and Sew is a somewhat hidden warehouse near North Lamar on back road. When you enter things are thrown all around in complete disorder and they have you change into your clothing in a back room filled with junk..BUT...the sewing is beautiful, the alterations are exact and they get it done in only a few days for usually no more then 10 dollars max ( sometimes less.) I highly recommend them for any and all alterations. Some of the women have a hard time with some English, but the communication hasn't ever been a problem. Also, you must pay in cash. read more

You may think this place is a little shady when you walk up to it. It is in a warehouse and there is no actual front door. You just enter through one of the open dock doors, walking into a room with sewing machines and various fabrics all over the place. However, the moment you step inside you are greeted by the lady who owns the place. She was very helpful, explained what exactly she was going to do to my jeans(the fly button had become unattached to my pants,) asked my opinion on what new button she should use, and was very nice, but down to business. I got my jeans back the next day, and I was very impressed with the work she did. I doubt my button will ever fall off the jeans again. It was 8 dollars to repair my jeans and they only take cash here, but I would have paid more for the work she did, it was that nice! Once you (1) find the place, tucked among the warehouses, (2) get over the complete warehouse-feel of this place, including (at least for me) shimmying in and out of clothes in a corner where you *may* get walked in on b/c the doors don't lock, and (3) remember to bring cash only -- you'll find this is *so* worth the money. I've gotten nothing but pants hemmed here, so I can't speak about anything else -- but I've had hemmed up a pair of jeans, a pair of lined suit pants, 3 pairs of slacks from The Limited, and another pair of slacks. Not a penny over $10. My seamstress told me that normally she'd charge more for hemming the lining, but b/c I brought in so many, no worries. Basically I tried to search out a new alteration place after Ace Tailor charged me practically 3/4 the price of my suit just to have the jacket darted in a bit more (and I couldn't tell much difference, I could kick myself for not saying anything then!), and pants were $$ for hemming, boo. I found BC&S after trying to find a place close to where I lived, and this is definitely where I'll go, in case I ever replace one of my 6 pairs of pants I described above & need them taken up :D read more

Prior to my first visit, I read the reviews and worried about the system they had in place to keep track of clothes and required alterations. And to be honest, they have a simple system of bag and tag. No computers or tablets that we've come to expect from businesses. After several visits, I can assure everyone that everything has been tailored to expectation and most importantly, nothing has been lost. I've had the owner help me the majority of the time. She always takes her time and will occasionally make suggestion to minor flaws that the manufacture made. She's definitely a perfectionist. You'll quickly realize that. If you need a last minute alteration, she'll try to work with you. I've only done that to her once and she was able to make the repairs within 2 days. Expect a small fee for last minute repairs. If you're not in a hurry, their turnaround time is a week. Price: Besides the great work they do, their prices are amazing. For that reason, I've become less picky about the fit of a shirt or pant when shopping for clothes. I can easily go to Bluebonnet and have them make the adjustments for a small cost. The other day I asked if anyone knew of a good tailor nearby and Bluebonnet Cut & Sew was the number one recommendation I got. In fact, looking at the reviews, I see a few of them have left their opinions here as well. Needless to say, I took my 2 pairs of jeans to Bluebonnet to get them shortened since I'm a shorty and jeans are always either too long or too short. First thing you might notice is it's confusing where the front door is. Walk in through the open warehouse door where everyone is working. They led me to a funky room and shut the door so I could put them on. After marking up the hems, I was given a pretty quick turn around time and a smile. I just got my jeans back and they are PERFECT! Not only that, but the price was perfect. Bluebonnet has become my official tailor, and the place I will recommend to all my friends. You get what you pay for. I cannot hook my DKNY dress because the hook was put in such a way that I can't do it alone (under the arm). The zipper was supposed to be moved but they did not do it and left a gap and put in a hook instead. I asked to have jeans hemmed with the original hem reattached and they did not do it. I had to ask them to resew a sweater that was mended crooked. I would not take any of my nice clothes here to be altered. They'd be okay for patches, etc. read more

This place is a mind trip, to say the least. I walked into the warehouse not knowing what to expect, and when I saw the piles of textiles everywhere and no sort of front desk I was skeptical. After standing there a minute looking lost a kind woman approached me and things were under way. I went in to get the waist of my suit pants taken in but after talking to them and looking at my aged pants we decided they could use more work that just the waist. So a waist tuck, pant leg length reduction, pant leg cut adjustment and inseam change they fit better than they ever had before. Judging from all the alterations I was afraid of the final ticket price, but rather than bother with a lengthy bill they just charged me for the waist adjustment. I explain that I need the shirt by the next day because I am moving out of town and they say no problem. 3. Return the next day to pick up shirt and I am handed the wrong shirt. I let them know this isn't my shirt and point out my (unfinished) shirt on the rack. I explain that I on my way to the airport and will take the unfinished shirt with me since I'm nonplussed and don't want to miss my flight. The seamstress and the lady helping me, but they both decide to add darts to the shirt on the spot and don't charge me a penny! The craftsmanship was fine, but I worry about reliability. Amazing!!!! I came here to get my prom dress altered. Heard about it on Yelp and when I went I found out they went to my church. I have a very small frame, about a 00 in dresses and sometimes even a 000. The dress I bought was a 4, so there were gaping holes on the side and the dress was easily a foot longer than I needed it to be. After telling her what I wanted, she measured me quickly and told me the dress would be ready in a week (which was way faster than what other tailors had told me, and no rush fee was charged!) Holy Cow! I cannot say enough great things about this place! I dropped my bridesmaid dress off here about two weeks ago. I knew it was about 2 sizes too big and would need a good seamstress because of the complex boning and ruching around the waist. Today I picked the dress up and it looks wonderful! It fits like a glove, and I know it was not an easy task. I had previously taken the dress to another alterations store in close proximity to Bluebonnet, but after being quoted $110 ($49 just to shorten the hem) I decided to look into a few other options. I found Nga just by chance as I was in a bind needing to alter pants for a funeral. I needed a rush on them and she really took responsibility for getting the pants altered for me. Nga does outstanding work and the prices here seal the deal. I've even grown to prefer the more relaxed and efficient (if very sparse) atmosphere compared to more formal services. I get the service I need for a great price. She has tailored or altered multiple suits, pants and jackets for me over several years. I've never been even slightly dissatisfied with any of her work. I'm picky too. After discovering her services, I will likely never use another department store tailor. There is one other tailor here in Austin who is well known and does very nice work, but i can say I honestly prefer Nga's shop now. Even it it wasn't the most cost effective, I would still likely choose Nga's expertise with any nice clothing that needs to be fitted. read more

I would say this place is a great find! I've been looking for someone who can tailor my suit jackets to fit my body well. I'm a petite, hourglass shaped woman and that's no easy feat...BUT Na is brilliant! Somehow she just knows what works and what doesn't for everyone's bodies. She'll make recommendations while making adjustments on your clothing because she wants to do it right the first time, but most of all, she genuinely wants to make sure you look good. I've always been happy with the end results and have been coming back since. I've never had someone alter my clothes right until I stopped by. Her rates are very reasonable for such wonderful work.
