Having read and heard great things about this restaurant we ordered breakfast to go. It was delivered to our car and we drove a couple of short blocks down the street to enjoy our breakfast at a park overlooking the Manistee River. We were quite hungry. My husbands Croque Monsieur was fine. Neither great nor bad. After biting into my stuffed French toast (which resembled a blueberry blintz) all that I tasked was char. Another bite. Same. Both sides were burned black and it was even difficult to cut into. After enough bites to stave off hunger (we drove here on empty stomachs from Traverse City) it hit the trash. We had plans that didn't include a return trip and a wait for a replacement to be eaten solo. After all, my husband's was fine, he was starving and it was consumed. My question: why was this served? It took 10 minutes to make so redoing something so obviously wrong would have been simple, fast and the right thing to do. There was no cutting the char off of that. I have photos. Every piece of bread was as black and burnt as possible and too thin to attempt to scrape both sides off leaving nothing. No one could look at this and believe it was okay. Someone working here heaped blueberries on top and gave no consideration to either the person eating it or the reputation of the restaurant that would serve something like that. This is a restaurant to be avoided where quality is just a word and has no place in any description of it. read more

We've always had the best experiences at the Blue fish!! Although prices are a little higher than other places in town, you can ALWAYS count on the food to be tremendous!! We were vacationing in Manistee and Blue Fish was highly recommended. The restaurant was beautiful and we were off to a great start. The waitress started off very pleasant. From here it was all down hill. The service was terrible. We waited forty minutes for our food. The Caesar salad lacked dressing. We were served raw whitefish. We complained and the fish was removed. The manager came over and said he wasn't going to charge us for whitefish or one glass of wine. Really? What a guy. He didn't charge us for raw food we didn't eat. We were than presented with a bill for $10 for our appetizer. The pleasant waitress became unpleasant. We will not be returning!! read more

Clean and nice interior/atmosphere. Food was great, I had the Great Lakes White Fish and cleaned my plate. Decent drink/beer selection. Only issue we had was the place was almost empty, we asked the hostess about available outdoor or back window seating (with a view of the river) and she said there was none available, so we asked for an estimated wait for that type of seating and she just said "I don't know" and walked us to a table in the almost empty dining room. Stopped in for lunch base on a billboard on the highway during an adventure day drive with my wife. She raved about her meal. I also had an excellent sandwich and the potato hash was a great change from what would normally be just another order of fries. Great view of the river and fantastic art on the walls. I have been coming to Bluefish for years, so I was anxious to visit when the inside service opened. However, it almost seemed like a different restaurant. Prices were high and quality was diminished. $30 for perch is ridiculous. For that price, I expect a soup/side salad but all dishes are a la carte. I ordered the $29 pan seared white fish as I have many times in the past. This time, it came wrapped in a brown, unappealing skin that did not look like any fish skin I've seen before (was not served this way prior to Covid) and lacked in quality. Most dishes come with the same risotto side which has become monotonous. The appetizer mussels came in a watery broth where previously, this was rich, creamy and flavorful. The menu has not changed in years and it's limited and boring for regulars now. I brought a friend and left embarrassed about the cost and lack of quality. I realize restaurants are trying to get back on their feet amidst the pandemic but charging high prices for less quality is not the path to success. I will not be back until I read or hear something has improved. read more

I wanted the food to be good because it's a lovely setting right on the river and my husband and I were celebrating our anniversary sitting outside watching the sunset. The wine was good, so was the butter, but that's where it ends. I won't comment on service, which was just untrained young kids not properly supervised. We started with mussels, which were overcooked and rubbery. This was followed by what sounded like an appetizing beet salad, but what arrived were cubed beets in a in a sweet, gooey sauce served in a martini glass (why?). I thought I ordered a chicken corn chowder, but received a dark brown broth with w/ root vegetables and no identifiable chicken. The pork loin w/cherry sauce, was decent, but the vegetable medley was overcooked summer squash, zucchini and green beans and the polenta triangle although tasty didn't add anything to the pork - a soft polenta would have been better. My husband's whitefish was fresh with a huge pat of butter melted in a pool on one side of the fish - anything with that much butter is good regardless. The risotto was more like a rice casserole and was stone cold - same overcooked fresh vegetables. There were so many things poorly executed that it would have reduced our waiter to tears to keep pointing them out. The evening was lovely, but we won't be back - ever. I see it headed down the road of its former occupant. Simple, fresh food cooked well would have been enough to satisfy, but this missed the mark . read more

We went in yesterday for lunch and we were seated by a sullen hostess. We sat unacknowledged for almost 15 minutes. We didn't receive a smile, a hello or a "will be with you in a minute". There was plenty of wait staff available based on the number of customers. I told someone behind the bar why we were leaving and she did not care. What a shame. We are not from the area so we looked at yelp to help us with the choice. We wanted something with seating outdoors which it had. I suggest a bigger seating area outside or possibly in the front of the store just like in Europe if it is doable. We waited for 10 minutes for a table to open outside. Sat down ordered some wine and our dinner. The dinner was excellent. My wife ordered the perch and I ordered the champagne chicken. The risotto that came with my meal was good and my wife had asparagus as her side. The asparagus was cooked perfectly; not stringy like it sometimes can be. We even had dessert-creme brûlée. On our yearly vacation we always go out to eat on Wednesday night. This year it was my turn to choose. We decided on Manistee and I looked through yelp for recommendations and chose Blue Fish Kitchen. With a group of ten none of us where disappointed with our meals. We started with the smoked fish, cheese plate and bruschetta appetizer. All were excellent they make their crackers for the cheese plate. I loved the warm smoked fish, we didn't leave one bite behind. Nice wine selection, we had the Grand Traverse Riesling and Root One Cabernet on the recommendation of the sever. They were excellent. A good restaurant pays attention to the sides and all of us agreed the sides were excellent. Perch tacos had tasty red beans and rice. Scallops were large and tasty with creamy risotto. Rainbow trout stuffed with gnocchi was superb. Someone had a huge ribeye with a potato casserole. We ordered the Creme brûlée, chocolate cake, chocolate mousse and key lime pie, none of us could decide which one was the best, all were equally tasty. Did I mention the butter, it was infused with garlic. We ate indoors in the very cool industrial building, to chilly for the deck. Attentive service, not rushed. They must provide good training. Disappointed, staff was great, interior was very nice, but I came to eat not service and interior. We both ordered lemon scent perch with risotto and summer squash. Clam chowder and butter for the bread were high points of the meal. Quick to to point: perch tubes were like rubber. Not sure when or how they were prepared. I was guessing myself and only way you could do that is bake it for an hour then let sit for an hour. Risotto had decent flavor but came to table Luke warm. Now how could that happen if prepared to order? Veg was nothing worth mentioning. Oh, we each had a bread and butter Chardonnay... where did that come from? So bad. We were there at 5:20pm Saturday. 4-6 others eating in an otherwise empty large building. I love eating and this was poorly executed and deserves this review. Will I ever return? No. I'm not in the business of eating poorly prepared meals served by good staff at a beautiful table. Hopefully you read this and raise your standards to always not just sometimes. read more

Had an evening meal for the first time at the Blue Fish. The food, service and atmosphere were very good. I enjoyed the potato encrusted cod entrée. The plating was nice and the taste excellent. The server was very attentive, friendly and professional. I felt the prices were reasonable given the quality of the meal and service. I stopped by today and was ready for another great meal. I had my mind set on the Salmon as it is the best. They didn't have salmon or their Whitefish. Disappointed I ordered the Mussel special with a wonderful broth. It is listed on their appetizers, but along with Caesars salad, it was more than most entrees. I've had this in Ireland and a restaurant near Pike street market in Seattle. This was as good or better then either one of them. Great bread too. I had a Sauvignon Blanc and it was very good at about $7. Just a real find in this place. If your looking for low prices and cheap food, this is not the place. Came in on a long weekend to the casino. Found Blue Fish on Yelp and couldn't have been happier! We went for lunch, had the Salmon Greek Salad and Blueberry Salad (add chicken). They have craft beer on tap and cider! Only slight downside is it cost $46 for lunch, but I'll pay that all day for good food! read more
