This was a delicious meal for both myself and my boyfriend. The service was great although the server wasn't very knowledgeable about the wines abd brews. My boyfriend had salmon which was superb. I had the sausage and shrimp pasta alfredo. Mine was good but in my opinion could use a bit more seasoning. My family and I ate here before a concert we were headed to this past weekend, I was very impressed! Great atmosphere, great service and the food was incredible! Started with the mussels and then had the Perch, quite possible some of the best perch I've had to date. My wife had the Tuna and it was outstanding as well. There are menu items for most price points, one of the best ribeye steaks is available on their menu for under $40 and many of other entrees are under $20. Great place to eat. I had the duck over creamy polenta with a side of green beans. Duck was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I was expecting the polenta to be dry and clumpy but I could have eaten a bucket of it, it was so good. I would definitely order again. My wife ordered the Chicago steak (8oz beef loin) with bleu cheese sauce over it. I luckily got to eat a portion and it was also cooked perfectly. Could have cut it with a fork. My favorite place for Manistee and recommend to all who go to the area. Remember, it's a very good restaurant in a blue collar, resort town. Decor is comfy, wine is plentiful, hardly any wait. Servers are local kids, so you're not getting an experienced waiter, but they have always been friendly, polite and hard workers. The Blue Fish was wonderful! My boyfriend and I went on the off-season so it was super quiet. We were probably one of four people in the place at the time. Although we stayed until close employees didn't seem to mind. I had the fillet and it was phenomenal!!! It is definitely more high-end but totally worth it. What a great find! We had a late lunch so the restaurant was pretty quiet. Our table mates are very well versed in all matters related to wine and could not get over the extensiveness and quality of the wine list. We had a burger, a soup and sandwich combo, smoked salmon melt and croque madam, all but the burger served on grilled sourdough. All were thrilled with the meal but speaking as the one who had the croque madam, it was phenomenal. The sourdough bread was perfectly crisped and the mornay sauce with an egg over easy was perfection with the ham and gruyere cheese. Th closest it reminded me of was eggs Benedict, only so much more. I truly enjoyed the attention to detail, our server was attentive and so very pleasant. The decor was spot on, down to the handles in the women's bathroom which resembled a corkscrew handle. We came here shortly after they opened last year and enjoyed the mussels and drinks. This time however they have perfected their service, presentation and menu. I had the pan seared whitefish and my husband had pan fried dusted perch. Both were excellent but the risotto , the herbed oven potatoes, sautéed kale and finishing sauces really put over the top. read more

Ok. So I really like this place. I'm kind of a creature of habit. If I find a dish I like at a restaurant, I usually stick with it because I don't want to risk something that isn't as good as what I usually get. At the Bluefish I usually get Champagne chicken which is always very good. It comes with a risotto and veggies. Lately though, I have tried the Kassler Ripchen, which is just about the most awesome pork chop you will ever eat. I think I have had it three times now including tonight. It really is excellent, and it is not something you will find anywhere else, nor would the average bear be able to cook it at home. First, it is locally sourced from a nearby farm, which is nice to know that it didn't come from some massive pig factory somewhere. Then I think it is smoked because it has a lightly smoked flavor, though not too much. It is served with some incredible chutney made with apples, raisins, onions and some spices - I usually ask for extra, because it is so tasty and I want to make sure I come out even with each bite. It is also served with potatoes and veggies. Really, really good. If you find a better pork chop, I want to know where. The restaurant rarely looks full, although it is a pretty big place. I think that can actually hurt them because people think a restaurant has to be packed to be good. This is a small town, so to fill this building would be tough. Tonight at 6:00, there were probably 30 or so patrons. Not bad for a little town. The bar is gi-normous and usually has a game on. The staff is always friendly. Enjoy! read more

We went to eat at the Blue Fish during the restaurant's opening days. We came in with a party of five and were seated right away. Our server was already very familiar with the menu. It took a while to get our entrees but it was well worth the wait. My entire family was very impressed (and they are very hard to impress!). I can't wait to go back! It's awesome that Manistee finally has a locally owned restaurant that uses local ingredients. I'm excited to see what else this restaurant will do in the future. read more

Bluefish is a huge step up from the normal fare in Manistee. I've been coming to the Manistee area during the summer for more than 30 years and this is by far the best food I've had here. The menu has great variety, but is small enough that the kitchen can really execute it well. Our starters and mains were excellent but the surprising star was the dessert - butterscotch apple crisp. This was one of the better desserts I've ever eaten. The wine and beer list were both fairly impressive for the area and the prices were reasonable. Overall the meal was somewhat expensive but I thought that the price was reflective of the quality of the ingredients and the preparation. Finally, my wife has a gluten allergy and they were very helpful with this. They told us that nearly everything on the menu could be prepared gluten-free. I'm withholding my fifth star for the service. Like everyone in this area, the waitstaff are friendly and do their best to be accommodating. Unfortunately, the level of service just doesn't stand up to the quality of the food. Our server didn't give us the specials for the day, which looked to be quite good once I saw them on the board outside. In addition, the presentation of the food was quite lacking - there was no explanation for any of the dishes. When you're making quality food, you should make sure your servers are highlighting it! I'm hopeful that the management can clean up the front of the house issues - I think this has the potential to be a real destination spot for Manistee. read more

This restaurant could hold its own in Chicago or New York or Seattle. In fact, I'm surprised it is able to survive in Manistee Michigan. Excellent restaurant, excellent bar drinks. Great wine menu for northern Michigan. The service is great. Came here with my family. We had: chicken, whitefish, ribeye steak, and the Porkchop. All were superb.
