Had Pork Gyoza and Tempura Veggies to start and then one person had the California Roll, wife had the Spicy Tuna Roll, I had the Tokyo Special and the last person had another roll who's name escapes me. All was excellent, Tokyo Special came with a nice broth soup and very good small house salad that was tangy and crunchy. Bluefish is such an underrated gem in Santa Rosa. The sushi here is fresh, flavorful and honestly better than most of the trendier places in town I've been too. The staff is friendly and the space is quiet, it's the perfect spot when you want great sushi without the chaos. It's the place you go when you want quality and consistency. I've never had a miss dining here. Definitely adding Bluefish to my regular rotation. Bonus points that it's in my neighborhood. 10/10. read more

I had no idea this sushi place was here!! I visited for the first time this past week. The garlic edamame was really really good, it had a really nice smoky savory flavor. For sushi we ordered the shrimp tempura roll, sex and the city roll, and some salmon nigiri. The rolls were good, but they did fall apart really easily, I felt they should have been wrapped a little tighter. Other than that the flavors were great! The nigiri was very good, thick cuts of salmon and not too much rice. The service was good too, our server even gave us a little "treat" of yakult at the end of the meal! Me and the wife had a 9 piece nigiri chefs choice and a ultimate hamachi roll (didn't photograph the roll) we also had the tempura 12 piece every thing was amazing. Our local sushi spot just closed. F O O D: We ordered garlic edamame to start, and it was the best edamame we've had in a while! The garlic was perfect and it seemed like the edamame were coated with some kind of sauce as well. My husband and I both had miso soup, which always hits the spot! I ordered two rolls; Mango Tango and Tuna roll that I totally forgot the name of. My favorite roll was the one with tuna. It had shrimp tempura in the middle with cream cheese and avocado. It was topped with big pieces of tuna and the crunchy stuff haha. I liked it better than the Mango Tango because it had more texture. The Mango Tango was refreshing, but I felt like it ended up becoming too mushy. O V E R A L L: I would love to come back and taste the other rolls. I read that this place can get pretty crowded during the weekends, so I'm glad we were able to experience eating here during a week day. Bluefish Sushi was recently sold to new owners and the quality of the food is not even close to the quality I enjoyed from the previous owners. The edamame was tasteless and soggy. (Edamame from the grocery store is better.). The Sunomono (Cucumber salad) was old, mushy and murky green in color - not the freshly prepared crisp vegetables we previously enjoyed. With the new menu, all our favorite special rolls are gone. I ordered 3 sushi rolls - modified with "real crab" due to gluten allergy, NEVER a problem before. The "crab" was dry, tough, chewy and appeared as if it had been rehydrated. The "crunchy tempura" pieces were to be eliminated from the "Albacore Crunch" They were not. In short it is probably the worst sushi I've ever eaten. Neither my family or I will return. What a loss for the Bennett Valley Neighborhood! read more

Unfortunately, the miso soup was way oversalted -- even for miso soup -- and it had a faint but noticeable taste of dish soap. Couldn't eat it. The iceburg lettuce salad was ice cold and delightful. The veggie and shrimp tempura was perfect -- not overly battered, not greasy. I ordered the salmon teriyaki but was served the chicken, which was well cooked and tender, but way too salty. This is easily the best sushi in Santa Rosa! Maybe not if your all about crazy rolls with 50 ingredients, but if you want a wide selection of extremely fresh fish this is your spot. We order the love boat with the ultimate salmon roll, every time and almost exclusively nigiri and sashimi. When you order what we do it's very hard to hide the quality and freshness of the fish! We have had sushi from probably every restaurant in Santa Rosa and Bluefish is the best. So if we love their fish, why not 5 stars? Well they drive me crazy! They have gotten better with some of my annoyances, but Covid has exacerbated others. On about 40% of our orders they get at least one thing wrong. They are also very very slow. Even when allowing an hour for pick up, I still have to wait 20mins+ when I get there. What drives me crazy about it, is they are generally unapologetic about it. The fish is always fresh and tastefully presented. The service is excellent and caring. Over time, we have been surprised with some extra treats such as seared salmon nigiri, or a small poke salad. We visited today and found out that my son left a birthday card there last time we visited - he had not realized he was missing it. As soon as we sat down we were presented with the card. So, I only write reviews when I'm either VERY satisfied or VERY dissatisfied hence why I've written so few. Most experiences fall somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately for Bluefish, the ownership needs a serious reality check. I'll start by saying I'm a very low maintenance customer. I worked in the service/restaurant industry for over a decade and am therefore very accommodating and understanding of mishaps, wait times, and other restaurant related issues. I ordered some toro nigiri. For those of you unfamiliar, it's normally a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth bite. On this day at Bluefish, it was tough and I wasn't able to bite through it to be able to swallow! It was inedible. I spit out the entire first piece in a napkin. I tried the second piece and it was the same- I didn't eat it either. This happens, I get it. But when I politely asked if there was anything they could do (like, I don't know, either offer a substitute or simply take it off the bill?), the manager/owner flat out REFUSED. Even after I explained that I didn't even eat it. Because it had already been "served," he believed I was still obligated to pay $14 for food- inedible or not! The WORST part was, the servers told me that just before the owner allowed it to be served to me, he had mentioned it may be tough to eat. So he knowingly served me inedible food and then demanded to be paid anyways. In all my days in the restaurant business and eating out, this has never to me before. Shame on the owner! read more

Went To check this place out under new ownership. Well, the Zaru soba noodles were hard and rubbery. The dipping sayce was so weak and diluted. Sushi was like eating riceballs. So much rice and huge it wasn't sushi. Tempura wasn't crispy. Hate to say all this but didn't want folks to think what we had was Japanese cooking.
