Sweet sake to finish off a great meal tonight.

Have been to many Japanese restaurants and this is my tried, true, consistent, quiet, non-hustle, perfect sushi and tempura place for the past 30 years. Not glitzy, not fast food, but high quality fresh food prepared carefully and beautifully. Family owned. Interior has a quiet and pretty ambience with beautiful furniture and partitions. I get calm here. Finished off with a sweet sake tonight.

My first visit here was excellent experience with the Service, food and ambiance exceeding my expectation. I dined on a Thursday in the 5' o'clock hour and before the dinner rush. Dinner at Shogun was exactly what I needed to relax. Thank you Shogun Team

The ambiance is both elegant and inviting, with a perfect blend of traditional decor and modern touches that create a warm, comfortable atmosphere. The sushi was simply outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and artfully presented. My daughter loved the shrimp cup, forgot exactly what's it called. The service was impeccable. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and super friendly.

Second time doing take out here. OK food. Placed an order online for a yaki udon for pick up. Arrived earlier than expected and called them. They quickly pushed the order out. Large portions comes with spinach salad, bean sprouts, large side salad and side of white rice for $22. The yaki udon had chicken, shrimp, carrots, mushrooms, cucumbers, lettuce. Taste was fine, a bit on the bland side. My concern was the noodles was chow mein noodles and wasn't udon. It satisfied my noodle craving for stir fried noodles. I haven't had a bad experience here and would come back. Service was friendly at pick up.

And my taste are different differently different than others. There was something off about the kimchi... It just didn't taste like what I'm used to, but I mean that could be a restaurant thing. I was also thrown off by the macaroni salad. It also had no flavor. I really enjoyed the bean sprouts and wanted to get another serving but was told it was a sample serving and that they don't do more than that. I could pay two dollars m Overall, I think my biggest issue was that a lot of the food was much sweeter than I expected. I was especially surprised by the grilled shrimp because I never imagined it would taste that sweet. I'm not going to lie, I still ate everything because I paid for it and didn't want to waste the food. The highlight of the meal was the Love Boat sushi roll that they light on fire. Visually, it was really impressive and made for a fun presentation. Taste wise, though, it was just an average sushi roll. I couldn't tell that the fire added anything to the flavor. I didn't notice any smokiness or anything that elevated the dish, and I honestly think it would have tasted the same without the fire. For what I paid, I don't think the meal was worth it, so I probably wouldn't come back just for myself. That said, I can see why other people might enjoy it. I did really like the jalapeño on the sushi roll because it added a nice kick, so I would order that again. This is also one of the few times I've had Thai iced tea that was simply too sweet for my taste.

The food is excellent with many creative sushi rolls to choose from. The rolls were exceptional and beautifully served. Judging from the quality of the sushi, I'm certain the rest of the menu is just as good. My wife and I love sushi, so our order was focussed on that. My sister was visiting from Germany and she had a great time, too. She is not a fan of the raw, so Yu was able to show her rolls that contained cooked ingredients. We even had an opportunity to talk with Yu about her journey from China to America. How many restaurants do you have an opportunity to talk with the hostess and learn about another culture first hand? Whenever we are back in Santa Rosa, we will definitely stop in and enjoy the Shiki experience. If you enjoy great, creative sushi and other dishes from the Orient, stop in and give Shiki a try. However, they had a kind of sweet rub on all of the different cuts; it wasn't bad! But just not my cup of tea, because it made all the different cuts taste the same n I wanted to be able to better discern between the types. That being said, it was an amazing experience and you should definitely try this spot!

I came in for an earlier ramen lunch and ended up wanting to get all their appetizers. There's a variety of apps but I wasn't too hungry so I ordered mini sesame balls for the table ( 3 for $1!!!) and octopus ball/sesame balls to go. At the end, I also got the homemade sauce just to try bc it was packed in a glass mason jar and relatively affordable. For food, I got tonkotsu ramen and the broth was good. I think it was missing the condiments and some umami flavoring. I'm not sure. It was 3.5 imo. The sesame balls were good and so was the octopus ball. The salmon looked plentiful and came with lots of sides but I'm not sure how it tasted bc I didn't order. All the dishes were cleared out though so I'd say it was a successful lunch trip. They have a long fish display in the front and plenty of seating too! Reminds me to go back to Japan soooon.
