I didn't have super high expectations given that there aren't many asian food offerings in this area compared to the South Bay Area but this place pleasantly surprised me! They had authentic wasabi and great ginger slices! We were seated in the back patio and it was enjoyable because it wasn't hot and there was plenty of shade from the Bamboo. We came here for dinner tonight. The rolls we got were all very fresh and tasted great with awesome plating. The staff was attentive and kept refilling our drinks. They were super friendly too. This is definitely my favorite sushi spot, even compared to all the spots in SF and the south bay. We sat outside on a sunny day and it had plenty of shade. Ume Japanese Bistro is an amazing restaurant. We have only eaten here for dinner or gotten food to go, although they are open for lunch as well. There is a decent amount of parking, which is nice as well. The food is delicious and I personally love that they have vegetarian options as well as a lot of amazing seafood options. I often get the Vegetarian Sushi Plate and it is very flavorful. I have tried several different things here and have loved everything I have tried. The service is excellent and it's a warm and inviting place to relax and enjoy an amazing meal! Everyone that works here is very friendly and helpful. If you are in Windsor, this is an excellent place to check out. My husband doesn't eat seafood and there was plenty of non-seafood options as well. I came here for my anniversary and wow I would come again! The food here was delicious! The service was impeccable! The waitresses were so sweet and caring. As a Chinese-American, I've eaten plenty of Asian dishes, from sushi to pho to stir-fry. I have to say, this visit to Ume on March 12, 2025, will be one I remember for a long time. I ordered the Tempura Udon and shared the Agedashi Tofu with my family. Each vegetable and shrimp were perfectly fried and crunchy, and the soy dashi broth was so comforting on the rainy night we visited. The way the tofu was prepared was unlike anything I had ever tasted. Delicious! The restaurant owner also took the time to visit our table to ask about our meal. We appreciated the personal touch! We got there right after opened so not very many people there - that changed quickly after we sat down - so it appeared to be a fairly popular place... Rightly so. They had two Sushi named Carburetor and Dark Side of the Moon and I remember when Sakura was open in Santa Rosa they had two sushi names like that ... I had not seen them before or since ... So of course I ordered them - not the same as Sakura. However I did like theirs. The Dark Side of the Moon had a salad to go with it like Sakura - love that. Am I saying Sakura enough? It was hands-down, my favorite sushi spot on the West Coast - not that I've been to tons but I go to a lot..... very disappointed when they closed - yet now... I have a new favorite. We haven't been back here in a few years. Not for any particular reason, we just sort of forgot about this restaurant. We finally went the other day, and it was so good. Our waiter, Eric, was very friendly and helped make good recommendations. We did a sake flight cause why not and the spicy tuna sliders. Everything was so good. A hidden gem in Windsor. We're visiting the Santa Rosa area and decided to visit Ume. We were not disappointed. Our waitperson Eric was great! Very attentive. This place has been my sushi sanctuary for years. I order the same roll (Lady in Red) 90% of the time because if it ain't broke, don't fix it--and once again, it did not disappoint. Always fresh, always delicious, and always worth it. Also, their Happy Hour (4:30-6:00) draws a crowd, and for good reason. Three big groups were already on it while I was there. On the strength of all the positive Yelp reviews and the photos of good looking food Barbara S. and I finally made it here for a completely satisfying meal. Barbara ate a garden salad and a rainbow roll. She declared both to be top notch. The crispy fresh salad greens were dressed with a bright tasting dressing. The rainbow roll was a delight to see, made really well. I had the pork ramen soup. The pork bone broth was deeply rich. The noodles were toothsome, the slices of pork soft and delicious, the egg had that gooey yolk, the vegetables just barely cooked to retain their vibrancy. I asked for medium spicy broth, it was just that. The first sip was a chili shock but then settled into a mellow quiet warmth. Surprising alcohol list. Given the humble, not at all fancy dining rooms you wouldn't expect to see a $240 bottle of Kosta-Browne Pinot Noir on the menu, but there it is. I decided to drink a $7 bottle of Asahi beer. 3 servers helped us through the meal. All were kind, friendly, informative and efficient. We arrived on a Saturday 5:15pm. An hour later upon exiting the place was packed and there were at least 30 people waiting to be seated. So table reservations are highly recommended. Of the many, many Japanese restaurants in Sonoma County, this one for quality of food, the wonderful employees is in the upper echelon. The dining room is pretty basic and not pretty. If a $100,000 was spent to lavishly decorate the place, the owners could double the menu prices and still have a booming business. read more

While raw fish items are luxury foods, I do not eat them. Now tempt me with tempura, rice, salad, and other items that are cooked, even briefly, and have me caught in your culinary hook. I arrived for an early dinner, and everything went just right. The hostess/server was lovely. Friendly, warm, and very professional. I tried the special yuzu cocktail and give it 6 stars, minimum. Accompanied that with a shrimp "cocktail" in a martini glass that was perfect with the cocktail. My entree was tempura shrimp and veggies. Crispy, tasty, as tempura should be. The food and service here is wonderful! My boyfriend and I ordered the margarita shrimp, dragon roll, and rainbow roll. The margarita shrimp is so cute and comes in a margarita glass. It is so good, especially when you dip it in the sauce it comes with! The vibes here are also excellent. We sat at the sushi bar, but the tables have a really intimate candlelit atmosphere. I asked them to take down my name and another couple came in after and a 4 top came in after that....they sat the couple down first and then the 4 top...they didn't have reservations nor did they call ahead. I think the older lady had one list and the younger girl had another list which let to the issue since the older lady wasn't sitting anyone since she was busy serving food and the younger one was on the ball sitting people down Got fed up and left.
