Quite possibly the best southern cuisine in the Midwest. They also have a great selection of spirts, wine and local brews. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My favorite time to go to Bluegrass is around Mardi Gras. They go all out from decorations to beads to custom drinks and food items.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Where else can you get a shot of gumbo! The staff is very friendly and they have a fun vibe. I highly recommend making a reservation because they do fill up fast.

Such a fun experience! Excellent server who explained everything beautifully. Wine selection limited but everyone found a drink they liked. Gumbo shooters are yummy and a nice small taste. Grouper was outstanding! Others in the party had shrimp and grits with andouille, and bbq platters. Inventive baked beans with brittle, and amazing potato wedges as sides. We split a trio of desserts. Raves all around. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Casual boppy ambiance, loud but fun![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Made a reservation before a show at Ravinia for three of us. Service was wonderful and everything we ordered was delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a cozy little spot and they were busy the whole time we were there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They knew we were going to the show so they got us in and out as quickly as we needed without rushing us. Would love to go back again!

We chose Bluegrass because we celebrated our 10th anniversary here and really enjoyed it, so why not celebrate our 25th anniversary at the same place? The story: We made a reservation in advance for 5:30pm, which was confirmed twice. We arrive a few minutes early and are seated right away. There are a few tables already seated and a couple at the bar. Pretty quiet. Lovely server named Jazmine takes our order and we're off to a good start. Jazmine delivers the drinks, our appetizer, and the bad news - the kitchen has "sold out" of the Tuesday Trio special (chicken, ribs, brisket) that my husband ordered 10 minutes ago because there is no more chicken. It's 5:30pm on a Tuesday and they've sold out of chicken. What?!? We need to know more and inquire. Apparently, the restaurant allows certain patrons to reserve the chicken special ahead of time and come in whenever they damn well please to receive their prize birds. Reluctantly, my husband reorders some other bbq plate that he wasn't excited about and we spent the rest of our meal watching customers come in and be served their Tuesday Trios with CHICKEN! Our server was great and clearly embarrassed that our order couldn't be fulfilled because the birds were reserved by regulars who are in the know about covert chicken deals. The FOH manager literally checked in on every table, specifically asking about the delicious chicken, and avoided us like the plague. We could have been annoyed, but the whole situation was so ridiculous that we could not stop laughing. The food is decent at Bluegrass. Solidly good, but no longer great like it used to be. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant decor is super dated and has gotten a bit icky after 20 years in business.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And truly, we just can't support your covert chicken reservation policy. Jazmine deserves 5 stars and we tipped her accordingly, but Bluegrass is a not a place we will ever dine again.

What an absolute dining pleasure. Friendly, welcoming staff and phenomenal meals and drinks. Highly recommend the Orange Sesame Chicken and Crawfish Étouffée. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ongoing Mardi Gras celebration was extremely festive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Have the Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned and/or Bluegrass Martini. You won't be disappointed. Finished our meal with Icebox Pie and Key Lime Pie. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Wonderful ambience to top things off.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Extremely enjoyable and we're already looking forward to our next visit.

Does this restaurant have a party room that can be reserved? And if so, how many guests can it hold?

Unfortunately not, we have one dining room and one patio. We can do lager parties at certain times pending the size of the group.

Looks great but I'm allergic to seafood. Can these be made without?

Sure, we always have a chef on the line.

Are there gluten free options here?

Yes but I would tell them that you are Gluten free when you order just to be on the safe side.

Are there any vegan or vegetarian options here?

Yes there are some vegetarian options

Best wishes for great success to the new owner of this business…read more There are many aspects to this business. All of them seem to indicate an establishment worthy of our patronage. There is an additional special element that is important. This business characterizes itself as "kosher". To some people that is irrelevant but for others it is primary. The previous owner had an attitude that was very antagonistic towards the national and international kosher certification entities. For a lack of more or better information, it seemed like there was something "ideological" that took preference over business and community interests. All of us know that there are many choices for excellent restaurants in our area. That is in general. It is not true for Jews strictly observing the dietary rules. The non-Kosher observers, Jews and Non-Jews, were happy to learn Shaevitz UPtown Bbq was sold to a young and ambitious individual with a good Jewish education. North Shore was going to have a place where everyone observing the dietary law could feel comfortable. For non-Kosher observant, it was going to be a place to entertain kosher friends, business associate and family. At this time the established has a kosher certification from an induvial but, not from any of the many known kosher certification organizations. It sadly prevents many people from patronizing this business. This is an opinion. It is intended to be helpful for customers and for the owners. It is not intended to imply anything negative about the individuals or to question his character or intentions. Summary - It is simply easier and more functional for people that are Kosher observant, no matter where they are from, to enter an establishment with confidence that the word Kosher is applied in a context validated by a known entity. I hope that certification is on the way, and we can enjoy the excellent food that has been noted in many other reviews.

So, we were able to taste a variety of choices! The salmon was incredible! The Teriyaki mushrooms were delicious! We can say the same thing about the Texas brisket, the BBQ brisket slider, chicken tenders, the rib tip sandwich, the stir fry beef and broccoli, and the ribeye steak entree. The sides were just as delicious as the main meal! They are extremely generous with their side of fries as well! All I can say is although this was our first visit, it will definitely not be our last! Shaevitz is under new management and everyone there is beyond kind and provides great service! You must try for yourselves!

We ordered a whole bird with a side of roasted potatoes (Rosemary Reds) and greens beans - plus the mole and Clucker's style sauces - and the cornbread... we also added a side of Mac and Cheese. The chicken was perfectly moist with a solid rub that had a great smokiness and rosemary flavor. It paired BEAUTIFULLY with both sauces. The mole negro is a bit thicker than I'm used to, but is perfect for the chicken, it's most like a peanut sauce consistency. The Clucker's sauce, a play on a honey mustard, is closer to a chutney - spectacular. Potatoes were perfectly seasoned with some roasted onions, they weren't super crispy but I attribute that to delivery (they were still a 5/5). Green beans were nicely blanched and had a strong fresh garlic flavor. Mac and cheese is not baked and more gooey - I prefer that, although a lot of people (my wife included) prefer it baked. Cornbread was delightful, but I'd get the corn tortillas next time, especially with that mole. If I could rate this place above 5 stars, I would, and we had delivery! I can't speak to the ambiance. But when recently walked past there, it looks great inside and has a patio, and the food, just from looking at people's plates, was memorable. Do support this awesome establishment! These ribs are easily ranked among the top ribs I've ever eaten. They have a beautiful dry rub, and are so juicy and tender, you don't need any sauce. The smoke line is perfect. I usually prefer my ribs with a sauce, but these honestly don't need a drop. The staff is warm and friendly, and there's a tremendous sense of pride they put into their food. Even if we don't consider its rarity, Da Local Boy is a winner in every category. The prices are very fair for the enormous portion sizes, the decor is fun and appropriate, the service is friendly, and food is phenomenal both in flavors and textures. The only possible criticisms are that the space is a bit small for how popular this spot gets, and the parking in the area can be a bit limited around popular meal times. The food here shines, making it worth a special trip -- both again for the rarity but also the quality. For me, the poke nachos are a must order item, just the perfect mix of large chunks of tuna with super crispy wontons, fresh avocado, and a good helping of sauce. Amongst friends, we've agreed that this is a must order item. The huli huli chicken is also unreal in flavor and texture. Besides being marinated and sauced well, the chicken is melt in your mouth tender while simultaneously having a delicious crisp skin. Think brick chicken, but with more flavor and a much better price. The rice and macaroni salad that accompany this are also well done -- and feel more like a core part of the meal rather than an afterthought. The grilled pork is pretty good as well, though I kind of wish it wasn't sliced as thin, as certain pieces felt a bit dry. The spam musubi with a light touch of furikake also provided a flavorful, fun dish to accompany the other delicious items I tried. Overall, delicious and consistently surprises me with the quality of the execution and bold flavor combinations. This is on my top places to visit in the area and has never disappointed.
