I want to start this review off with a huge thank you to the people at Blue Pearl for everything they did to save my dog's life. After previously bringing my dog to them the night before, my dog had a drastic health change where he was severely limp, weak, and unresponsive. When I came in with my dog in my arms, they immediately took him and brought him to the back to give him fluids and run tests on him. After several hours there (approximately 4-5 hours) they highly suggested that he stay for a 24 hour observation due to a possible genetic diagnosis of Addison's disease. They communicated properly and were understadning about our countless questions. They were patient and caring to myself and my family about this traumatizing time. They promised to give my dog the best care there was. They never had issues with our countless calling and asking questios throughout my dog's stay. Our dog's doctor was really kind and professional. She was direct about our dog's prognosis but was not rude or malicious. I know there are people here that may not have had a good experience with them. But, just based off this one emergency, I would say that if your pet is ever in need of help, Blue Pearl in Forest Hills would be one of my recommedations. Thank you Dr. Schreffler and the staff for saving my precious dog, Shadow! HOWEVER, although this glowing review highlights the kindness, professionalism, and hardworking staff of Blue Pearl, there was one negative expereince through it all. Myself and my family have all agreed that the nurse Emily was completely rude and unprofessional. I understand that someone who works in this enviornment is used to these types of emergencies and may sometimes become desensitized to these occurences. However, the pets and owners who come in here seeking help do not expereience this all the time. We look for compassion, understanding, and patience. The nurse Emily did not show any of that to us, which is very unfortunate. First I'd like to say that the medical care there is outstanding, I have NO issue with the doctors. But what my husband and I experienced last week still has me angry and it's clear they have no intention of being transparent or apologizing. We took my cat there because she was breathing heavy and stopped eating suddenly. We went in expecting the worst. We spoke with the doctor and came up with a game plan and the vet tech comes in with an estimate and yells out, "So who has the big bucks?" She proceeds to say, "Well, you probably need some time to think it over," and we said no, we already spoke with the vet. Then she questions why we would spend so much money treating a 12-year-old cat! We were wondering what the hell kind of place hires someone this unprofessional to deal with the public? Our cat indeed expired. We brought her in at 6pm and she passed at 10pm. The bill was high, which we expected as she was in critical condition, but an "overnight vet fee" of more than $230 for a 4-hour stay, which was not overnight, was insulting. We questioned the receptionist and she offered to have their finance team call us to discuss it. Then we were informed that they misplaced (but later found) her carrier. Their cremation fee is also $150 more than charged by my local vet. I sent a follow up complaint via their online form, but no one has called us to explain the bill and it's been a week. The worst part is we have another cat that sees a cardiologist there so we have to go back and regularly deal with them. read more

The level of disrespect and animal neglect from their staff is terrifying and they should not be trusted with caring for any animals. Their vet, Dr, Edith Karapet is rude, dishonest and has a long history of animal neglect that is easily accessible by googling her name. The fact she was even hired here shows the negligence by the staffing department. The woman at the front desk, Tiana, cursed at me and waved her middle fingers up at me while locked in a back room with my dog they were refusing to return until we had to have the cops called. After telling us multiple times they didn't treat my dog she was returned to me covered in urine, shaved and bleeding. I am very concerned about the current level of services available at this facility, particularly given that it is marketed as an emergency hospital. My local veterinarian informed me that my cat was in critical condition and likely needed emergency surgery immediately. When I mentioned BluePearl as an option, they advised me to call ahead before going, as they often do not have a surgeon available. I followed that advice and called BluePearl directly. I was told that while some support services may be available, there was no surgeon present. In a true emergency, this level of uncertainty is very concerning for a facility that presents itself as an emergency hospital. On February 13th 2026, our 14+ year old chihuahua mix suffered a serious seizure. We found her at 9:15 pm, and don't know how long it was going on. She was flailing wildly, frothing at the mouth, eyes flashing, tounge hanging out and gasping to breathe. We called an Uber Pet and made our way to BluePearl. She was soaking wet with sweat, and when we arrived they took her in immediately and started working on her. After a fairly short period of time they stopped the seizure. She was looking blankly into space and not focusing. The Dr came out and gave us a long list of treatments, he also mentioned that her temp was 107. We were both pretty traumatized, and we simply said yes to everything. They were obviously going to keep her, provide oxygen, and monitor her. We paid over $7,000.00 prior to leaving. The next morning we spoke with the doctor on duty during the day, and we decided to euthanize her as she was never going to recover. The reason for this long review is that when my dog arrived, I believe every person working there knew she would not last long or recover. I wish one person would have offered us the option of simply keeping her calm, with oxygen and monitored. But they never did. Instead they performed numerous bloodwork and radiographs -all of which I feel were medically unjustified. Please be aware that you as the pet owner need to scrutinize the proposed treatments, and even if you are not medically trained -you need to decide if they are truly necessary. The Dr and staff at BluePearl will not be candid or help you to choose. We have our dogs ashes at home, and we have paid the $7K bill. Please learn from our experience. read more

I am glad that the visit went by super quick. My dog is anxious and loud, that could've contributed to it. My provider was knowledgeable and informative. I don't like how my bill was so much. Especially for an echocardiogram, I looked up online and most places in NYC charge way less. I had a concern for my dog so I was willing to get all the test he needed. I am surprised that any blue pear location is open after all of the wrongful death lawsuits brought against them. Brought our dog here with his tounge cut by a groomer. The doc said my dog was fine and sent us home with his tounge cut in half and dangling. The next day took him to our regular vet who said my dog needed emergency surgery because his tounge started to die and she even had to remove some of the already necrotic tissue. My dog could have lost his tounge entirely and or died due to blue pearls negligence. If it wasn't for me being proactive and getting a second opinion. Blue pearl should be shut down as they don't even recognize what an emergency is. read more

My 9-year-old Maltipoo suddenly started circling and his eyes were darting side to side , it looked like a seizure. We rushed him to BluePearl, and the staff acted quickly and were kind, which I truly appreciated. After tests and an overnight stay ($4,200), the doctor told us it was either a stroke or brain tumor and that an MRI costing $10,000 was needed for confirmation. We were devastated and told we might need to put him down. A few days later, after doing our own research, we realized his symptoms matched vestibular disease, which is often caused by ear infections ,something I had mentioned when we brought him in. Over the next few weeks, he gradually recovered and can now walk and stand again. I'm grateful for the staff's quick response, but deeply disappointed that vestibular disease was never mentioned as a possibility. It turned out to be the most likely cause, and recognizing that earlier could have saved us so much money, stress, and heartbreak. read more

Oof. It's quite telling how Bluepearl views customer service. Look at any negative review here and they just stamp a copy/paste empty apology. This vet office is extremely expensive and not transparent with their pricing. They wouldn't give me any kind of estimate over the phone for a standard procedure for a dog that already had a diagnosis and referral from another vet. They require you to come in, wait three hours, and pay them hundreds of dollars to then give you an outrageously expensive bill, and try to get you into a care credit credit card the second you question their pricing. Mind you, care credit has insanely high interest rates and is a terrible idea. I refused treatment from bluepearl and found an urgent care vet nearby that was much more transparent, incredibly less expensive and took great care of my pup. I highly encourage others to find any other vet in the area and only use BluePearl if it's an absolute emergency and after hours. There are multiple urgent care vets nearby that support advanced procedures, have late hours for walk-ins and won't bankrupt you. read more

My dog was very sick after hours and I took him to BluePearl. Instead of getting the blood work and xray done (I could get it done the next day at my normal vet for non-emergency prices) they stabilized my dog with anti-nausea and hydrated him. He was fine the next day and I am glad I didn't spend so much on the xray and blood work at emergency prices. read more

If I could rate this place 0 stars I would. I found a stray kitten on the street and noticed that night she wasn't eating much and her eyes were stuck shut, so I rushed her to BluePearl around 4am on a Saturday morning. They ran a bunch of tests and said she had a ton of issues, so she needed to be admitted. I picked her up the following Monday evening, and they claimed she was doing better, estimated her at 5-7 weeks old, and instructed me to feed her wet food every 4-6 hours without needing to do so through the night. They also gave me some medication, and the bill came to a whopping $4300. But just a few days later on Thursday, she stopped eating again, so I brought her back. Shockingly, they refused to see her, citing her "state of condition" from the previous admission, and just recommended a few other animal hospitals or urgent cares in the area. I ended up taking her to IAC Urgent Vets in East Elmhurst, where they immediately hospitalized her again. Two days later when I picked her up, they informed me she was actually only 3-4 weeks old and still needed bottle feeding every 2-4 hours--including through the night. It's been two weeks now, and she's thriving thanks to their proper care. Basically, I wasted $4300 at BluePearl for absolutely nothing. Not only did they fail to treat her properly, but they gave me completely wrong information about her age and feeding needs, which caused her to remain malnourished and suffer even more. That hospital, and especially Dr. Jonathan Munoz, should be ashamed of themselves--he ought to have his license revoked! It felt like BluePearl was only interested in racking up the bill and getting paid, not actually helping the animal. If your pet needs urgent care, skip this place and go straight to IAC--they've been amazing! read more

I have used this office before and the staff is great. Unfortunately, they are so short-staffed that you cannot be seen for 4 to 5 hours at a time. I called and was told there was one doctor on call on a Friday night at approximately 7PM and he was in a procedure for at least 3 hours. When I went back over 3 hours later, the wait was another three or four hours and only the 1 same doctor was on call. This has been a common reason they give for wait times. It is always due to short staff. I think that Blue Pearl as a company needs to rethink the number of doctors they have on staff if they really want to be considered a real 24 hour facility where you can get help for your pet when needed and your pets primary vet office is closed. Most of the other ER for pets I reached out to staff more than 1 vet on site especially during the off hours that most regular vets are closed. read more

If you love your pet please dont make the same mistake we did and go to this vet. We took our dog Oliver here. He had a mass on his right shoulder that was under control with Prednisone daily. Our vet referred us to a surgeon @bluepearlvet in Forest Hills for a CAT scan and a biopsy which was performed yesterday to determine what it actually was. With the exception of the mass on his shoulder, he was a healthy dog full of energy with an undying desire to play fetch, which we did prior to the procedure yesterday. We called the vet a few times leading up to the procedure to ensure everything would be ok and he would be able to handle it all. We were told the surgeon would make a game day decision if they were going to do the biopsy because the blood work looked off and were concerned of bleeding. Oliver walked out of the Vet under his own power, a little groggy but looked ok. We picked up the dog and over the next 8 hrs, his condition deteriorated rapidly to the point we decided to bring him back to the vet at 1030pm. Oliver died in our arms 5 minutes after arriving at the vet. I find it highly suspicious that a simple procedure as a CAT scan and a biopsy can kill my dog within a 8 hr period of time but thats the reality. As a professional medic for 30+ years I personally feel something negative occured during the procedure which caused the death of my dog. The blood labs were repeated multiple times and dont lie. If you have a platelet count of 29000 you don't cut into the dog and try to aspirate a mass. If the PTT is over 5 minutes you dont cut into the dog and try to aspirate a mass. Even the overnight Dr. Said it was a stupid risk to take. Unfortunately Vets can operate without oversight or impunity in NY. You have no recourse and these "vets" can do as they please. Usually the local oversight boards are they're golf buddies and everthing gets swept under the rug. As a medic, my oversight board is ridiculous and I can personally be sued over my actions or lack of for any reason. To the surgeon that worked on Oliver, you know exactly who you are, stop being a smug f*** and try harder. Your apology was insincere and insulting. I hold you personally responsible for the death of my dog. You can legalese the narrative all you want and say it was the dog and not you but you know you're full of s*** My dog is not a paycheck he was my family member and you took him from us. I truly hope that each and every one of those people that work there at BluePearl in Forest Hills will get exposed, and if those people work at another vet/clinic/hospital I hope their reputation for their so-called genuine "care" and "concern" follows them. And above all I hope that this establishment and its owners get audited and sued. Their lack of compassion is highest on the list to start off with. It felt like when I asked any of them something they get bothered. It also felt like I was being psychologically bumped around during my interactions with them, and the half assed treatment my little guy received if anything made him worse. For me to tell them this is what happened after I left, for then the doctor assure me that my dog will be fine. Then for me to show up at the desk a couple of times during the week because they apparently can't pick up the phone and ask to speak to the doctor, to then get brushed off with the old, "oh that's normal" from their techs. What my little guy received was not enough for him to live longer in my honest opinion. My cat came in on December 22 and was diagnosed by another doctor with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) before coming here. The staff was attentive and friendly, and they quoted me a price of $4,000 to $5,000 for overnight care. I agreed and left my cat there for the night. However, the following day, the doctor on duty informed me that they were not equipped to help my cat and that I needed to take him to a specialist. I was frustrated because they did not mention this the night before, and as a result, my cat lost precious time and had to be euthanized. Additionally, the pricing was on par with that of a specialist, which is not surprising since this chain is owned by a corporation. I wish we could return to a time when veterinary practices were more independently owned! I would not go here if you are facing complicated issues with your beloved pet. read more

I write this was a heavy heart because my dog passed away the next day after coming here for surgery after a dog attack.  I went to Blue Pearl because my dog was attacked by another dog last month. The staff at Blue Pearl were very nice upon arrival (Dr. Brett, Lionel, and Nico at the front desk). We went through the usual procedures and decided to have her stitched up since there was a wound around her neck. This meant she had to be sedated and at 12 years old, we were worried but not as concerned given her vigor and overall health. When I picked her up, she was all smiles as if nothing happened. The next morning, she started having irregular and panicky breathing or panting. She didn't want to eat and take her meds, which at the time I thought might be the meds wearing off. I called several times throughout the day and spoke with various people to ask if certain behaviors and breathing were normal. I relied on them as the experts and apparently there were no immediate red flags especially since we hadn't reached the "24-hour mark."  Sadly, my dog passed away early that evening. Her heavy panting slowed to belabored gasping. She was gone in minutes. I live with a lot of guilt that maybe I could have brought her to Blue Pearl regardless of them saying it was normal or gotten a second opinion from another vet locally. Why didn't they complete a more thorough check-up? Why don't they keep dogs for 24 hours after the surgery? Why didn't they ask me the right questions to truly assess the situation? Why, even after telling them that my dog was gone, didn't Dr. Brett call me to lend his sympathy? read more

24/7 Emergency Vet. My dog had an emergency Sunday night and I got referred here by my regular vet. This was the first time my dog had an emergency so I kept calling different vets to see if there would be a doctor available to help. For context I live in the long island city area. This was the closet emergency vet- I called and told them I was on the way. When I got there- they took my dog inside to see the vet within 5 minutes. The vet called and gave us updates. Thank goodness they were open!!!! I was so worried!!! This is the place to come for pet emergencies at any time! Note the charge is ~$200 but if you're pet isn't feeling well this is a money well spent for a good piece of mind that the doctor checked your furry friend. They ( Chewy) refunded me the liver medication and dog food WITHOUT a question and asked me to donate the unwanted items to the local pet shelter or keep it. After I spent $2k at Bluepearl within 2 days and my dog died 2 days lataThey couldn't even refund me $100 for the medication. Again please avoid this place at all cost, they only care about Money NoT animals. I have nothing but great things to say about BluePearl and their team. Two weeks ago I brought my 11mo old kitten in because she wasn't feeling well. BluePearl ran all their tests & determined it was a rare, but fatal illness called FIP. Thanks to new, experimental medicine, however, kitten has been recovering nicely. The team at BluePearl are all compassionate, professional and experts in their field, particularly Dr. Redfern, who took the time to explain everything to me and made herself available to discuss kitten's treatment options & answer any questions I had. I understand that they are expensive, however, health insurance is available for reasonable rates & can help offset the cost. BluePearl is the best place to bring your pet for amazing care and I can't thank them enough for doing everything to save my kitten. read more

Totally shocked at the poor, unprofessional treatment at exorbitant prices. Brought my dog to Dr. Levy for surgical evaluation of her pre-diagnosed knee problem. I got his name from another Veterinarian, who said he was an excellent surgeon. I was charged $2200 for a consult and x-rays under general anesthesia. I was quoted 8- $12,000 for the surgery... Afterward, Dr Levy, in another room, had the audacity to give me the consult over the phone while I was sitting in the waiting room!! As a retired dentist, I can't even imagine giving a consult over the telephone.... Impersonal/unprofessional/rude! Once complete, they released the dog while she was still drugged and falling... not even asking how far away my car was! Fortunately, I made it the block and a half without her being visibly injured.. I subsequently had the surgery completed by an equally respected veterinarian at Bond Veterinary (Dr. McDougal). The surgery was done for a flat fee of $6000 and the x-rays that were later done post up (also under general anesthesia ) cost me $800 (instead of $2000!). The procedure worked great and she now runs like a racehorse. Worst experience I've ever had a veterinary office. Seems like money is the only thing that matters there. read more

They saved my cat after another critical care center suggested no hope for recovery and humane euthanasia.. The doctors at BluePearl were upfront and regarding his prognosis and the costs involved. My cat thankfully recovered under their care. I was given daily updates and a video of my cat in hospital. Also the doctors spent a long time on the phone fully explaining my cat's condition. After his release I was given a plan and the Dr continues to communicate with me regarding my cats care. Yes. It was expensive. They were up front about the cost involved. NEGLIGENT! they acted like i was stupid for bringing my 6 month old kitten there because her heart was beating very fast. They said it was in my head and that is normal for cats. They refused to see me. I went home and made an appointment with my vet for the next day and my vet told me she needs an emergency room and she passed away the next day.
