I took my cat for emergency care on 4/30/2023. I'm Stunned at the way we were treated. I will be brief, as I'm writing this I'm at another vet and my cat is in Emergency Surgery. The bill was $393.39, they gave my cat Maropitant, and shoved the bill at me to pay at once. This medicine is for vomiting. My cat has a bowel obstruction and was in kidney failure! Terrible experience. Only 1 vet there, so long waits up to 4 hours. I came in for my cat's anal prolapse and was told after almost 3 hours, that the real problem as a mass in her colon and she needed surgery, which would have cost me over $15,000 dollars. I thought she was going to worsen and die soon. Couldn't afford that. Just saw my local vet for a respiratory infection she got at Blue Pearl, found out that there was no mass and all she needed was an enema. Couldn't be worse. read more

When my local vet could figure out why my cat was losing weight rapidly and vomiting at alarming rates and volume, we took her to Blue Pearl to see an internal medicine specialist. Dr. Cistola was able to diagnose my cat with small cell lymphoma and estimated that, with treatment and regular medication, she could live out her natural life - one to two years. Two and a half years later my cat finally passed on but thanks to Blue Pearl - and in particular Dr. Cistola and Jeanette - we were able to spend more than two additional years with our best friend. The level of care and empathy that we received was incredible. Every step of the way Dr. Cistola explained all of our options with the goal of making my cat as comfortable as possible. Understanding not only my cat's lab and test results but also identifying patterns in her behavior and demeanor allowed Dr. Cistola to make recommendations in care as well any potential increase or decrease in medication. Bringing a cat to the vet is often highly stressful for the cat and the owner. Having Jeanette perform the intake each time set us both at ease. Her copious notes and sincere, genuine care for my cat made difficult visits as welcoming as possible. I wouldn't hesitate to bring future pets to Blue Pearl and cannot thank them enough for all they did for me, my wife, and in particular our beloved cat. read more

BEWARE! Go to LIVS or AMC- please read. This place is the worst, even for simple euthanasia. My senior dog, Stevie, had been battling cancer for 7 months. It was clear it had reached the point of no return. She was showing end of life signs. Pacing, pain, whining, struggling to breathe, exercise intolerance, urinating inside. I scheduled euthanasia for the next morning with her regular vet, but she became worse. I decided to take her to Blue Pearl to end her suffering that night instead. It was too unbearable. I called ahead. I was told to fill out their intake form online. I was told the fees for euthanasia & to just come in. I was not told to send over medical records or asked to pay for a prior examination. I wasn't told an examination would be needed. I made it clear I was coming in to put my dog to sleep. I followed the instructions I was given. Due to covid, a tech takes your pet away from you outside. Please keep in mind that through all of this, my dog was scared & feeling very unwell. The tech didn't show any concern for her whatsoever. The same tech emerged from the building a few minutes later, with my dog, and said- "Take her. She's too alert. We're not comfortable doing euthanasia." I was stunned. It was a freezing Friday night around 11 pm, and she was dragging my dog back into the street to tell me this. When I asked the tech if I could please speak with the vet, she sharply said, "Nobody wants to talk to you." I couldn't understand why they wouldn't have called me from inside, instead of confusing and scaring Stevie by bringing her back out and being cruel to me, too, in front of her. I explained that I realized my dog was having an adrenaline rush from the terror of being taken to the hospital and appeared alert, but it was misleading and I'd like to be able to speak to the vet regarding the long, very bad medical history that resulted in my decision to come there. I understand pets can become temporarily excited from the experience of being taken to a hospital & might appear better than they were just moments ago at home. That's why I was quite literally begging to speak to the doctor. I asked if the vet had seen the 4 glaring mast cell tumors all over my dog's left side, including one spread to her lymph node. "Well," said the tech. "You didn't want to pay for examination, so the vet didn't see anything." I told her I was never once asked if I wanted an examination, nor was I told an examination would be required. I understand the need for a practice to ensure this is an ethical decision. I would've been more than happy to come with all the records & I would have agreed to the examination upfront, even though it's an obvious & disgusting money grab. This was thrust on me as I was at the most agonizing moment of my life, my sweet baby had just been traumatized & dragged back out into the street- what was I going to say? I'll put her through this all over again at another hospital? This was a shakedown at my most vulnerable. I agreed to the examination & still had to plead with the tech to allow me to speak to the vet. The tech then took my dog back inside. My dog was a recovered rescue, an abuse victim prone to anxiety, & now she was dying. She was digging into the sidewalk not to go back in- the tech tried to pick her up totally incorrectly & my dog cried in pain. The tech was mean & rough. She told me to email any records to the vet, but couldn't even tell me what the email address was. It was sadistic the way she prolonged this. She went inside & used a paper to write down the email address- the back of the paper had all the personal information of another patient printed on it. (I still have this as proof. There is no regard for patient privacy or confidentiality.) I was in my car, desperately looking for medical records on my phone, crying in the cold. I was able to get enough information to the vet in order to proceed. The only reason I didn't leave was because I knew how sick my baby was & I just wanted to end her suffering, which I eventually was able to do. Bottom line: pet owners, beware and avoid. Blue Pearl: shame on your business practices, shame on the vet tech, and I'm sorry to the other kind people who work there- including the vet was very nice & capable & did help my girl in the end- who are associated with such an awful institution. The front staffs are really nice but the vet is horrible. She really has a bad attitude and somewhat racist. I brought my dog in because she couldn't walk and our primary vet didn't have available appointment. She got frustrated as I could not give an info for the medicine. I told her I would ask the dog owner to call her and she said please try because she didn't want to have the same convo twice. And when my friend called and try to describe her symptoms and what we had observed, the vet said, are you asking me or telling me? Really? This is the right attitude for your professional. People come to you because they trust you to take care of their pets and this is what we got. I do not know about the other vets there but this one is HORRIBLE . As a follow up to my former review about the treatment of my son's cat, Rocky.....I managed to find the owners of Blue Pearl. They are owned by Mars, the candy makers, among many, many other institutions. I contacted the head of "client relations". I can now see where Blue Pearl in Forest Hills, NY gets their horrendous customer service. This person, Allen, stated the policies of Blue Pearl - he will not discuss the treatment of any other animals we may have brought in, the staff is 100% correct and justified in ANY treatment of clients, and my favorite...."people on YELP lie about their treatment at Blue Pearl". I now understand why whenever we would bring Jamie in for treatments for lymphoma, we were always told "that Dr. doesn't work here any more". This is a truly horrible, corrupt and abysmal place for any animal's last moments. read more

My wife's family dog was probably minutes or maybe an hour or two away from dying. We have a Chihuahua and she had diarrhea for many days and as a result of that she was severely dehydrated and she was also vomiting. Something was clearly wrong with her. When I came to pick her up, I didn't even know if she was still alive. Our dog did not greet me like she normally would and barely blinked, which was the only indication she was still partially there. During the horrific drive, my wife kept her awake and talked to her. Upon arriving at blue pearl, I was greeted with many parked cars and it was hard to find parking. But ideally in situations like these, there should be more than one person. My wife went on ahead and it did take me some time to find free street parking. There is a parking lot right next to blue pearl and and tons of buses and trains that come to the forest hills location. I rushed into the hospital right after parking and my wife's family was talking to Dr. Liza Bolouzian. She did the initial consultation while a Dr. Tse was working on saving our dog in critical care. Dr. Bolouzian was professional and courteous throughout our time there. Dr. Rosen was the vet during the 2nd day and she too was professional and courteous. During the two days there, Grace at the front desk was always really welcoming and nice. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our dog was saved because we came here. My brother in law is a human doctor and he knew by looking at our dog's chart that she really didn't look so good and was surprised and grateful that we had the most optimistic results for our dog. The estimate was around $3100 to $3500 so we were charged the average before any work was done on our dog. The final bill came out to approximately $2800. Some can argue that this place might be expensive and it might be, but there really is no price to put on a family pet that would without a doubt pay and do anything to make sure you're okay. They told me my X-rays weren't good enough and wanted to charge me $3,500 for new ones. When I said no, they charged me $380 dollars for what they called an "expert consultation." Truly fantastic! My dog was VERY ill at the time and we decided to take her here. Upon entering the place was clean and well lit. The receptionist was a touch busy at the time however, she was very kind & diligent as she took us into an exam room to wait for the MD. Dr. Ira Balea saw my dog & examined her. She diagnosed her fast after her assessment. She was very honest with me. No bs. No extra exams to rake up the bill. Which tbh surprised me because most vet places do try to do that. However, she didn't. She and her staff were kind, efficient, and helped my baby girl. This is the third pet I have brought to BluePearl. There was a five hour wait time however when they triaged my cat they took him immediately as he had ingested a lily which is lethal. I overheard the front desk telling other people after they were triaged that there would be a five hour wait and told them that if they did not want to wait they gave them a list of other hospitals in the area. The staff there is extremely knowledgeable. They were compassionate with him. They kept me updated to his condition often via phone. he spent two nights there. read more

Do not come to this "emergency" vet. They'll take as much money as they can and charge more on top of that. I called in advance (1am), let them know i was coming in 20 mins and they said yes. Came in because my dog's hip was limp and looked dislocated (elder dog, history of hip/knee problems). When I got there, there was NOBODY at the front desk and another client had to open the door for me. I didn't speak with any single employee for upwards of 15+ mins. I had to call 2x to let them know i was in the lobby. The vet told me she was "sure" my dog had a back injury and would need an MRI and surgery that would cost upwards of $15,000. She actually told me $15k with a straight face, and gave me attitude when I told her I couldn't afford that (especially since they do not offer any form of payment plans!!!!!). Overall, SO UNPROFESSIONAL. The vet was very judgy, had an attitude, and talked to me like I was dumb. I took my dog home and im taking him to my vet first thing in the morning. I paid $500 for an exam and some pills. Again, no payment plans available. This place makes it seem like only rich people get to keep their dogs alive, for those who cannot drop thousands of dollars in one night unfortunately will have to see their animals die. UPDATE: 12pm, the following morning. Just got back from my home vet. X-rays and Veterinarian confirm evidence of severe hip dysplasia, NOT a back injury!!! (X-rays were never offered to me as an option last night). Thank God i got a second opinion. I got an exam, Xray, and treatment for a fraction of the cost. My dog will be okay, but if you bring your pet here, your wallet won't be. Again, my point stands, these people don't care about your pets, they care about what's in your bank account. I am a new puppy owner and my sweet pup, Milo was lethargic, not eating and just looked like he wasn't going to make it. I couldn't figure out what happened. I called a few vets in the area and no one had appointments and they referred me to this emergency vet facility. I called and was explained their intake process that was different due to COVID. You have to call and give your pet info and concerns and they pick up the pet at the front door and call you with their medical findings. We took Milo and they gave us paperwork to complete outside and it was raining. They could've allowed us inside just to complete the paperwork and then leave since the space seemed big enough for social distance from the front desk. The staff were professional and cordial. They called us about 45 minutes later and informed us my puppy had Hypoglycemia-low blood sugar is a common problem in small breed puppies. We were relieved they figured out the issue and what needed to be done. What we were flabbergasted about was the price they were telling us because they wanted to observe him for 24 hours. Honey, I loooove my puppy but I said uhmmm can you give us some other options. They offered a more affordable option for him to be monitored for 12 hours and we were grateful. When we picked him up he was back to our sweet, active and cray cray puppy. I do see the reviews where it's expensive but I honestly have nothing to compare their rates to as a new fur mom. LOL I am just thankful they were to assist with my puppies medical needs as well as gave us information on what to do in the future. I brought my dog here a little over two weeks ago because he was having issues with his left eye. I paid over $400 for the exam, a test to see if he had an ulcer in his eye and a steroid ointment for his eye. They suggested other unnecessary tests but I decided against it since i just wanted to resolve the present issue. I was told by the doctor that there was no ulcer so it was just conjunctivitis. I was told that the steroid ointment was going to help clear up the conjunctivitis. I used the ointment on his left eye for over a week. His eye didn't get better. A week passed and i took my dog to his regular vet. Apparently there was an ulcer and the steroid ointment should have never been used. It actually made it worse. I spent another $250 at the vet for another exam, Fluorescein test (ulcer) and eye drops. I called Blue Pearl the very next day on March 2. I explained what happened and asked for a refund. They misdiagnosed my dog and gave me a steroid ointment that made the eye worse. I was told the financial coordinator, Catherine, was going to call me back to discuss my request. She never called. I left three more messages and never heard back. I was told she was in and would call me back. I was told she was not in but she will be given my message. Basically given the run around for over a week. The doctor was nice even though he misdiagnosed the issue. The front desk person we dealt with was nice and each person I spoke to and left a message with was friendly. But apparently Catherine doesn't return calls and is too busy to discuss a refund. Even a partial refund would have been appreciated. A call back to let me know they would not refund the money would have been better than being ignored completely. Very unprofessional. Had to dispute charges with Amex and hopefully will get a refund. Terrible way to treat customers who relied on your services in an emergency situation. I brought my dog here after a dog bit him in the leg..The RUDE nurse told me it will cost me $2300 just for a diagnosis!! Unheard of! This "nurse" had the worst attitude & saying things to scare me and pressure me into getting money for them. She told me to call all my friends and family to borrow money & to apply for carecredit. I was only approved for $1K Meanwhile they were trying to charge me $15,000K! I asked if there was a payment plan because i dont have the 15 & she said "its all about money if u dont have it we wont even look at your dog and you can take him home like this" ...They take advantage of you while you're in a emergency, panicked state and treat you with ZERO compassion. They even injected my dog without my consent!! & tried charging me $300 for it! I said absolutely Not & this is when things went really down hill! But then i heard a man walking past start screaming at them saying "Let her go, I saw everything, You guys should be closed down for this, Call the cops!" ..and another guy driving pulled over and said he saw everything too and was going to get the cops he saw up the block for me. I now had 2 witnesses! Cops showed up and they were forced to release my dog. I did not pay a dollar. Please whatever you do do not go to this vet! After this all happen i read the reviews and everyone is saying the same. They are heartless & money hungry!! These people tried to extort me for almost $15K by scaring me and catching me during a weak moment. I went there today with my cat who was having a medical issue. I'm grateful to have this hospital because it's open 24/7. Dr. Elizabeth and the British nurse (I can't recall her name because I was worried) were kind and helpful. The young women at the front desk were professional and nice too. I have been here 3 times for both my dogs. Issues like lameness, choking, difficulty breathing. All the staff and doctors were very kind and attentive. I have been to specialty animal hospitals so I understand quotes can be very high compared to a primary vet office. Wait times can also feel long, especially when you are beside yourself with worry but unfortunately that is the same case we experience at people hospitals. They were always very upfront about wait times and provided other hospitals in case I did not want to wait. All the quotes provided seemed reasonable for er services and I was never pressued into doing anything. read more

It's taken me a year to write this review because I am so horrified and traumatized by my experience here. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!!! This place and the people are inhumane and I have never witnessed such callousness and coldness in my life towards a place that is supposed to take care of your animals. My sister and I brought our cat in for an emergency after severe concern for her breathing. We had treated her for asthma previously. This review is about the treatment towards our animal and us. The vet and his staff were disgusting in their demeanor and refused to let us see our cat (which I've never heard of) after taking her back for tests. We got an off vibe but at that point, unfortunately they had her in the back room. They barely updated us even after we asked several people multiple times. When someone finally did come out they were so cold and unattached. And anybody that wants to pull the "Doctors have to separate emotions from medicine and stick to the facts" card, I work in healthcare and there is a very warm and humane way you deliver news to a patient while presenting them with facts and support. This vet was disgusting in the way he presented his news and became irate when we were hesitant about spending $20,000 to give our cat "a chance." He knew she was going to pass. It gets more horrifying as they basically threw our car back to us and she died in our arms and like anyone in the midst of grief- my sister became a little antsy towards the woman at the front desk and she straight up said to us in a nasty tone I was only trying and help and started sucking her teeth and acting completely unprofessional. We wound up having to leave her cat there and say goodbye to her and made the choice to have her cremated. We also noticed that the two other animals who came in when we did happened to pass as well. It was horrific to see their families go through the same thing we did. To the crew working on October 26th, 2023 at night- you know who you are!!! You are the most horrendous group of humans I have ever met(except for the gentleman that came out to cremate our cat) and I don't wish ill on anyone- but may you have a very unsupportive and hurtful experience when you're in the midst of grief and seeking help. As a frantic pet owner, I called this hospital tonight and I'm appalled at the response I received from the front desk staff I live 5 minutes from this hospital and I work at an animal hospital myself but that's located 30 minutes from me. So obviously having one close to home is always good, right? I guess not since the receptionist sounded like he was annoyed by me calling. I called evidently upset saying that I have to bring my dog in because he's having an emergency and, since I work at a vets, I know that the protocol due to covid is different for every hospital. So I asked "what's the protocol at the hospital, am I allowed to come inside with my dog?" The response I got was just "NO." and a longggg pause after that. Like are you people serious? Maybe train your receptionist to give a proper response when someone's asking about a relevant question. Thankfully my dog calmed down and I didn't have to bring him here. Instead I drove 15 minutes to AMC in Manhattan because the receptionist there gave me the response I was looking for and was KIND and COMPASSIONATE. Your receptions are the first impression of the hospital and if I get a better response next time I'll consider coming but I hope I never even have to get to that point. read more

I would highly recommend this Emergency Hospital to everyone that wants compassionate & competent care for their beloved pet. We took our dog in today after she was showing emergency symptoms. Not only did BluePearl have great COVID protocols (other animal hospitals wanted us to wait indoors, but BluePearl did an intake over phone and then met us outside), but they were extremely kind and made us feel less scared. Dr. LaPorte exceeded expectations -- she saw our dog much faster than we anticipated, and gave us a call within 30 minutes of us dropping her off. She was very, very thorough in explaining what she examined, what she recommended, and potential treatment options. She even sent us a quote to look at and gave us time to discuss it before making a decision on what to do next. Yes, the emergency appointment isn't a cheap starting cost ($229), but the care is superb, the facilities looked clean from outside, and they take COVID seriously. Highly recommend, especially if you can see Dr. LaPorte. read more

The story behind my baby lilmama coming her on Monday 03/04/2024 my baby girl started off with a heart murmur, and then it turned to heart failure, which I don't even know how that happened and I've been getting all her medicine making sure she take all her medicine every Single day, I found out January 2023 that she had a heart murmur from there. I started with the medicine and she's beginning every single day. i've been getting echocardiogram like crazy x-rays like crazy I even went to the cardiologist on 03/04/2024 two days before I went to this place and they saying that she's was in good energy and spirit at that day, and the cardiologist told me that I have to up up her pills so instead of giving her 2.5 mg she had to get 5 mg starting that day. I had to give her extra and I gave it to her on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And on Sunday It was nice outside we was out there. Walking and she was feeling good and everything was fine. And she was always eating and drinking. That did not stop with her because she loves to eat, but Monday morning I took her out for a walk and she was moving slowly and then she stopped Walking has she wanted me to pick her up. And the early morning she could not get comfortable and sleep. She was up and down and tossing and turning and she cannot sleep and she was breathing so heavy and panting and sneezing like crazy. So I was scared and I wanted to take her to the doctor and the office that I normally take her to don't open till 9 o'clock in the morning And the original place that I took to on Friday the cardiologist didn't opening until nine as well for me to ask her doctors what to do because I did not wanted to go to this place I mean at all but I was scared, so she said to me and on the paperwork if she start acting funny and and not herself take her to the doctor, So I decided to take her to this place, BLUE PEARL EMERGENCY. so I got on the block in front of this place waiting in the car to see if her original doctors was going to call me before I get in there and she was in my arms and then she fainted so I ran into this place, and this lady in the front the secretary came to me and took lilmama out of my arms but before that lilmama was crying in my arm like always because this was not the first time she fainted she fainted before multiple times, so I know about that and that pregnant lady going to say to me that she was non responsive when I gave her lilmama and that was a damn lie, I told her that she was crying and she left her head in my arms when I gave her to you. I was crying like crazy and she said to me listen to what I'm saying for me to shut up and stop crying and listen to what you have to say. She can do this surgery called pericardiocentesis to drain the fluid from around her heart, but the procedure is risky. She could die when she's doing it, or if she makes it through the surgery, she could die after. or she could do something else by keeping her in the hospital keeping her on oxygen because the oxygen gives her 50% and when she's not on oxygen, she only have 20% of oxygen so she needs to be in the hospital for a couple of days so she could be on oxygen and that is 8000 to 10,000 and after she come home from that, everything will go back to the same for her not being able to breathe. So I told her that I'm going to take my dog and go home and she said to me that you take her home she's going to die in the car before you get to your house so that is not a good idea. The receptionist said she thought my dog looked "fine" and that the wait would be 5+ hours to get us out of there. My dog was NOT FINE. He was POISONED. Thanks so much for the list of alternative places to take my POISONED DOG. A list of places in Brooklyn and VALLEY STREAM. Where the actual F is Valley Stream? And here's what I find the hardest - I CALLED IN ADVANCE to make sure you knew we were coming. YOU KNEW! I was 10 minutes away. I told you I would be there. But when we walked in you told me there had been a lot of emergency calls and you wouldn't see us for 5 hours. A LOT OF EMERGENCY CALLS within TEN MINUTES? Or, you just don't want to help animals?! Which is it? We were the ONLY people inside the center. The business owner can get on Yelp and apologize all they like but if you read the posts from others, it's clear there is malpractice galore at this location. Do not read the business owner's apology messages of anything less than trying to cover their a$$ here. Btw, I phoned up the Blue Pearl on W. 55th Street in Manhattan and spoke to someone for 5 mins, explaining we had been turned away from this location, and that I was worried. Blue Pearl Manhattan told me to come, said they would be expecting me. That I wouldn't have to wait when we got there. And you know what? That's EXACTLY what happened. As soon as we got into the Manhattan BP, we were taken to a waiting room and were seen within 15 mins. We were offered water and got to sit inside out of the cold. I beg you, if you live in Queens and you're thinking of taking them to Forest Hills Blue Pearl -- DO NOT. Incredibly disappointing. I visited Blue Pearl Hospital on 12/31 with my 1-year-old golden doodle due to an ongoing issue with his health (3 days of vomiting/ diarrhea and bleeding). Upon arriving at the facility I was greeted by a nurse who immediately refused to take us in saying "we should have called first", I told her we did but nobody picked up the phone and we were left with no choice but to head there. We were once again told they were not interested in seeing my dog because it was not a "life or death" situation and he was stable. A different nurse approach us and again told me this was not an emergency and I should look for other places. She gave a list of places and upon calling them they had no availability because it was a holiday, then suggested taking him to the animal hospital. The only solution they came up with was that if we wanted too we could wait but it would be up to 3HRS without guarantee. I will not be visiting this place in the future and I suggested you call in before assuming it's an emergency. read more

I had a very bad experience visiting this clinic. The doctor treated the dog well and in principle tried to help. But the assistant behaved like a knacker! She dragged my dog for tests, he was suffocating from the leash-garrote and was very scared. She didn't even try to calm him down. After the analysis, he was left alone in the office and he was very worried. Barking and whining. The girl at the reception said that he would be brought, but no one came for him for 5 minutes. Then they dragged him out again, strangling him with this terrible leash! And she didn't even realize she was doing something terrible. She looked at me like I was sick. Good service but THEY PRICE GOUGE!!!! They get away with taking a lot of your money when it's an emergency situation because they're one of the only places open late at night in the area. So it's been 6 and a half years since my dog got run over by a car and the lovely vet who worked (or works) at blue pearl had told me my dog was going to die if I didn't keep him overnight for a $5k surgery and told me it would be inhumane if I bought him home because he would die overnight, so to pay up a couple hundred dollars to euthanize him because it would be the right thing to do Brought him to fresh meadows animal clinic following morning for an X ray and they said he'd heal naturally. No surgeries necessary. He will be 10 in two days. My dog is currently healthy and happy with just a slightly fractured leg that doesn't seem to even bother him. I will soon find paperwork and update who this lady is because she should not be allowed near anyone's pet. read more

Dr. Levy and his team are absolute super stars with talking me through what was happening, what their recommendation was, recovery and the actual surgery. The reception desk were helpful in explaining to me what the next steps were and very patient with me when I was going through many panic attacks. The cost is a bit higher but worth it because I knew my pup was in good hands. read more

This place is filled with disgusting and heartless people that call themselves veterinarians. I can't understand how someone who is a vet would speak down to an owner with absolutely no care at all. After my pet was diagnosed with diabetes, his primary vet recommended he stay at a 24 hr facility as he was in critical condition. She had already called this facility to let them know what exactly is going on with my pet. When I arrived I was escorted right in the exam room. The vet came and explained to me about diabetes and how the treatment works. She said he needs to stay hospitalized for several days. After that she walked out and someone came and gave me an estimate it was a range of 3,000-4,000 for ONLY 1 night. I looked at this estimate and I knew some of the tests were unnecessary at that moment as i had prior experience in the veterinary field. I told the guy that it's too pricey and he said let me see if I can get a "better" estimate. A while later the vet comes right in again and basically tells me that if you can't afford it, to euthanize my pet. What kind of person that calls themselves a doctor would say that. They don't care about your pet at all, they only care about your money. I declined that estimate and found a 24 hr facility in Queens Blvd that was affordable and were compassionate towards me and my pet. Please stay away from this place!! read more

Just left here after having the worst experience of my life. Brought my dog in due to excessive coughing that sounds like penumonia or heart failure. They had him in the back from 6pm after arriving at 5-515ish. at 630 the vet came back out and said they had an emergency case and would be with us next. I asked for an appx time and he said maybe an hr. I said ok and took my mom for food. Went back in at 7. Sat for another hour. Asked for an update. Was told Bruiser would be seen next again. Asked again at 9 for an update. Was told he was "being observed" and they were waiting for him to have an "episode" but would be out in 15 minutes to talk to us. This dog hacks up a lung anytime he is excited or overwhelmed or has to walk any city block; he has never been cage trained and freaks out any time my mother is not around him. This has been chronic for about 3 days now with a worsening progression. There is no way he just didnt cough for the 5ish hours we sat there while he was caged. 930 I get up again and ask whats going on and what was happening. Was again told Id be seen next (3rd time). Every time the receptionist called in the back to the vet the receptionist had to explain over again what dog we were referring to. They literally had no idea. 1005 pm the vet comes out and starts asking my mother and i all of the same questions we were asked when Bruiser first went in. I cut her off and asked what it was they did with him back there for the 5ish hours he was there. I was told he was being watched, he didnt cough at all and just wasn't a priority comparitvely to the other pets that came in after him. I was also told that there was only 1 vet back there with 3 emergency cases that came in after me. I said: "so this entire time there has been 1 vet in the back and 3 emergency cases so who was observing my dog?" No answer. I was then condescendingly informed that this was a pet hospital and asked if I was aware of that. I stated that yes I did know it was a hospital and yes I did know how hospitals work as a cancer survivor that spent the majority of my 20's in a hospital which also means I know bs from a doctor when I hear it. Then she looked at my mother and stated it would be $1,500 to assess the dog I looked at her and said thats fine, I will take that money to a place where he will actually be treated and I wanted my dog and to go home. The assistant brought out my dog and we leashed him and placed him on the floor. The second we did so he was hacking again. I asked the receptionist if she heard that and she stated she did. I said oh ok I had to make sure I wasn't imagining it as the vet had just told me she didnt hear him cough once in the entire 5 hours back there. Needless to say I will NEVER EVER bring any pet or animal here again. I cant even say I would bring an animal here if it were dire. Blue Pearl used to be the vet everyone adored and admired as the best around. Its trash now. You cant even blame the pandemic on how poorly ran it is now. read more

My wife (who is a Licensed Veterinary Technician) took our cat because she was suffering from anemia. She went there because she gets a discount because she worked for a parent company. The Veterinarian's advice was to put her to sleep. My wife did not want to that so she said she would like for her to get a blood transfusion to try and save her life, we knew of the risks and that there was a chance she would not make it. The Veterinarian refused, she said it was unethical. My wife refused and when she asked for the cat, it turns out that she was already being set to be put to sleep. When my wife left the Veterinarian was very condescending and basically told her that it was inhumane to 'let her die' on her own, she was basically still pushing for the cat to be put down. Finally my wife took our precious cat to the AMC. They did the blood transfusion that we requested and 3 months later she is doing great! Her red blood count is back to normal now. We needed to drive further, pay 30% more because she did not get a discount there but it was well worth it. My advice is, don't waste your time in a life or death situation going there, go straight to the AMC read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE !!!!! My dog goes here to see the cardiologist (I should say was ) and I come to pick up his medication monthly. The staff is Disgusting , rude and very unprofessional. Due to COVID we are not allowed to come in. However, when I came to the door to pick up my Dog they gave me the WRONG DOG and had an attitude about it (no apologies). I have to refill my dog's medication monthly . I call days before to refill . When I come to pick it up they say it hasn't been dispensed .Mind you they called me and said it was ready for pick up no apologies. I'd give zero stars if I could, because this place only cares about money and has no regard for the health and well being of animals. My dog potentially was poisoned with xylitol and Blue Pearl left me $800 short for one medication and a weight and heartbeat check. They tried to get me to leave my dog overnight to run unnecessary tests which would've ran me $2000, but thankfully I had the better judgment to bring my dog home.
