From the moment we walked in the door everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly. I ordered the corned beef hash, a bloody Mary, and the goat cheese hashbrowns. My friend ordered the gluten free pancakes and bacon. Our server was fantastic and brought us grapes to snack on while we waited for our food. The poached eggs on my hash were cooked perfectly! After soliciting food and drink recommendations from friends in the area for our weekdays visit to Milwaukee, Blue's Egg had a couple votes. So after making sure that they were open during the day, during the week, we drove ourselves over for a midweek brunch! We made reservations online, but probably could have easily walked in and been seated in the same amount of time that we waited for our reservation time to come about. This is really only for weekday times, based on the apparent popularity even in the middle of the week I would absolutely recommend making reservations or being prepared to wait. On to our visit: Gina is a fantastic server. She was friendly and ready with a suggestion when asked. The menu was very enticing and I had a hard time making a decision. I wanted to try so many things! Gina's suggestions had us deciding on sharing an order of monkey bread. This is something my mom used to make for brunch every so often when I was a kid, but my boyfriend had never heard of it before. So for both of those reasons, we naturally had to get it! Sweet, delicious, chewy, and exactly what I was hoping it would be! Not a terribly large serving, but nice for two people to share, if they are also ordering their own main dishes. For my main, got the stuffed hash browns. The goat cheese selection, that comes with roasted olives and paprika aioli. It was filling and tasty, I just wish there was more goat cheese! It was heavy on the aioli, with plenty of flavor from the olives, but not enough goat cheese to really feel like that was the headliner. An interesting idea though, and one that made me want to try other variations. I also got a side of bacon that was perfectly crispy and salty. So many things on the menu looked so delicious that even despite my mild disappointment...I would have happily returned the next day to try more offerings! The brunch cocktails looked and sounded fantastic, but we settled for coffee. Always coffee. But don't pass over the drinks if you have the inclination! Blue's Egg has quickly become our favorite breakfast joint while in Milwaukee. They have so many delicious and unique menu options to choose from! I love the monkey bread for the table to share and their stuffed hash browns. The Elote stuffed hash browns was by far my favorite breakfast dish I've ever had! I wish it was a regular feature on the menu! The crispy hashbrowns are topped with street corn, Oaxaca cheese, cilantro, Mexican spices and cream mix, and bacon. I chose to get them without the bacon though. So delicious!! I've also had the provolone stuffed hasbrowns. They were delicious!! They monkey bread is really good as well. You can ''crunk'' them by getting a side of whiskey sauce. They have lots of drinks to choose from; alcoholic beverages and Cafe drinks. So many great choices to go along with your breakfast! We live less than a mile from Blue's and it's always our go-to breakfast joint. It's a cute little breakfast diner (& lunch) with some great food! It does get quite busy on the weekends, so either go earlier or later in the morning. Sitting at the bar is usually our go-to if there's a wait (pictured) or we also order out frequently. Both my partner and I's favorite meal is the Dubliner Benedict (perfect for those who love eggs and corned beef). They also serve our Milwaukee favorite, Valentine coffee. Yummm! read more

What a hidden gem for travelers in Milwaukee! We wanted to try something outside of the downtown area during our trip, and Blue's Egg did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, the service was great - we had an approximate wait of 20 minutes and were seated within 10. Our waitress, Gina, was friendly and knowledgeable, and she made sure that we knew all of the "must-have's" on the menu. I ordered the 2 Local Eggs with bacon, sourdough toast, and eggs over medium. My husband ordered the Pulled Ham Very Stuffed Hash Browns, with a side of eggs and sourdough toast. They have a great brunch menu, and a broad menu for specialty drinks. I ordered a peppermint mocha, and it had real whipped cream on top! We also received some butter and jam for our toast, along with some grapes to snack on while we waited for our meal. The place was alright. We went there on a Thursday and was a group of 5. They won't seat you unless everyone in the party is there( FYI). Ordered the special omlette- the grinch omlette. It was ok, nothing to write home about. I've had better brunches elsewhere. I got the campsite latte and it was one of the worst lattes I've had. I'm a coffee snob and like to taste the espresso instead of it being all sugar and milk ( although I like my lattes sweet). We got the monkey bread- the only thing that I actually enjoyed. Five years ago I would have said Blue's Egg was the best brunch place in all of Milwaukee. In my mind they were the restaurant that restarted the brunch scene here. However since then I feel like they haven't changed much which means they are just A-OK at this point. Do I like Blue's? Absolutely. Should everyone go at least once? 100% Do I think there are better brunch places in Milwaukee? Hands down. The best day to go the Blue's is Monday in my opinion for Hangover Maintenance Monday. You get one of their amazing bloody Mary's and ANY FULL SIZE beer as a chaser. Second choice would be Friday's for $5 fizzy drinks. That being said I'd go for the drink specials and not necessarily the food. Their stuffed hash browns are fantastic and I have yet to have a bad version of it. I enjoy the smoked salmon flatbread as well as the Hoppel Poppel, but everything else is pretty standard breakfast food in my opinion. Blue's will forever and always be in my brunch rotation for Milwaukee, but it's not my first choice anymore or even my second. Go and enjoy, but make sure you get out and enjoy all the other amazing brunch spots Milwaukee has to offer. read more

We came for breakfast on a Friday around 11 and waited about 15 min to be sat. Our server was so so nice and sweet and everything came out very quickly. The coffee was great. To eat I got the 2 local eggs with an extra egg instead of meat because I'm vegetarian, which they were super accommodating about. I got my eggs soft scrambled and they delivered. The eggs were fluffy and moist just how I like them. The hash browns were soooo delicious and crispy. The toast was toasted well with plenty of butter. I left no crumbs. I had such an amazing group brunch here and highly recommend this place for anyone near Milwaukee! I want to give a shoutout to the restaurant and staff for accommodating my large group of 10 people. In particular, my group's waiter was so impressive as he took our order with specific drink and food orders without needing to write anything done and brought them out all correctly. Note that you can book a reservation here online so make sure to do that before because the restaurant gets packed. The food was so delicious! A must try is the monkey bread with the upgraded sauce which was soft and the sauce added a new element to it. I would go back just for this monkey bread. We came in here on a whim - it was open and close to our ultimate destination (the fair park). The wait wasn't fun (about 35 minutes) but it was well worth it. I could tell I wouldn't need to do that here and I was right. They were perfectly crispy on the outside. As for the pancakes, truly, the best I've ever had. I never order cakes out because they're almost immediately cold, and they usually come with cold butter or syrup (who does this... And why?!) These pancakes were perfectly cooked. They were still hot halfway through eating them, and they tasted wonderful. If you're coming here, make a reservation. First time here. Expect a wait and it's worth the time you spend waiting for your table to be ready. There is a waiting area tent in the parking lot if you'd prefer to be in open air while waiting. Don't feel destitute when you see the people waiting and walk in, there is a back room with more tables. I had the rejuvenation bowl my husband had the ham omelet. The rejuvenation bowl is filled with veggies and I particularly liked that each piece had its own space in the bowl rather than everything being mixed together. There was feta in the bowl, but I think I there should've been more. My only recommendation. My husband said the ham omelet was excellent. It's just a bad combination of high prices and no consistency in food quality, specifically their namesake, the eggs. I have gone there many times where the poached eggs have come out with a hard yolk. I am at the point where when I order a Benedict, I expect that eggs will be overcooked. Hire a person to make them to order! You literally have like five to ten dishes that have poached eggs on them! Also, there are a few people there currently with just a nasty attitude. I am not going to go into details because my goal here is not to get anyone in trouble, but all customers should be treated the same, regardless of what rancid ideas you might have in your head. That being said, I am really only talking about two people, other experiences with different employees have been great, so take that one with a grain of salt . Prices are also out of whack. A full breakfast with tip, entree, one side, and a coffee is over 30 bucks. 25 should be the limit on that, and really it should only be a tick over 20. Lots of places in Milwaukee have great breakfast for much less. I know 1 star is harsh, but it has to be one star from me for repeated screw ups on quality, high prices, and anyone working there with a bad attitude. read more

This used to be my favorite breakfast spot. However my recent visit changed all that. Way too many negative changes. They stopped the complimentary grapes and now they don't even bring out butter and jam even when you have bread and French toast. We had to ask- that is once we were able to track down our waitress. They eliminated the bacon that used to come with the French toast (and I assume other negative changes but I'm reviewing based upon our order). Prices have gone up. Service has gone down. Food quality has gone down. Then to top it off they now add a 3% service charge to the bill if you use a credit card. We paid with a debit to avoid that. My charge appeared right but then two days later there was a service charge added. Very disappointed. Too many negative changes all in one shot. read more

This was the highlight of the meal. For our main entrees, we ordered a jalapeño sausage scramble (special menu) and a chicken chorizo omelette. The food was very bland. Hash browns had no seasoning, but were cooked well. The entrees were very forgettable. Some of the menu items were very pricey. Overall, not the best brunch experience. Very overrated restaurant. We got red grapes with jam, which was a nice change of pace from other restaurants who normally just give you bread while you're waiting. I got the iced chai tea which was delicious. For my meal I got the Blue's Hoppel Poppel which was huge! Definitely get if you're super hungry, I could only eat half of it and I usually eat a lot too. It's a scramble of eggs, bacon, sausage, caramelized onions, spinach, and shredded potatoes. Absolutely delicious with choice of toast on the side, I got sourdough. There is an attached parking lot which had plenty of space even on a Saturday afternoon. Portion sizes here are massive! You will get a ton of value for their prices. The monkey bread was so decadent and felt like eating dessert for breakfast (not a bad thing!) It is definitely on the sweeter side though. We got the andouille omelette and upgraded the side hash to the stuffed pulled ham hash, and that was way more than enough food for 2 people. Wait staff was awesome through our meal and very kind. Blue's Egg is like a diner but with a little extra added to it. A solid breakfast option if you're in the area but maybe not the first place I'd take out of town visitors to. Update from my previous review. I wish I could say it was better than I remembered, but it was worse!! Full disclosure, I was sent a $20 gift certificate from them to try it again. He sent a very nice card with the gift certificate stating he was certain I would find it's the best breakfast in Milwaukee and to remember that I can send it back if I don't like it. Here goes: We arrived at 1:15 and the place wasn't busy. The server, Elizabeth S, came over and asked if we wanted drinks. We got Bloody Mary's. Those were good. We also ordered a side of bacon which was $4.95 and we got 2 pieces of bacon. We both got toast. I got homemade challah and my husband got the homemade sour dough . The food arrived and I was hopeful. The hash browns were a big chunk of potatoes. They were crispy on the top, but very greasy and mushy on the inside. Both of our toasts were cold and tasteless. The butter just sat because the toast was too cold for butter to melt. My omelet was terrible. It wasn't cooked all the way through and running. It wasn't the sauce because I had them put it on the side. Understand, during all this time, we hadn't seen Elizabeth S again. I had to ask the guy who brought the food for a menu so I could order a glass of wine. While , I was waiting for Elizabeth to return so I could order the wine, I tried my husband's hopple popple. It was flavorless. Finally, Elizabeth returned and I sent back my omelet and ordered the wine. I asked for the eggs Benedict instead. They were back within 3 minutes. This tells me everything is prepared ahead of time. Hence the cold toast, greasy cold chunk of hash browns and... The the very thick muffin with the Benedict was cold and chewy. They use pulled ham which was dry and cold. I got another thick hash brown slab which was no better than the other one. Elizabeth never checked to see if this was better than the omelet. We got the bill and they did take off the omelet. I handed her the gift card and said it had been sent to me by the restaurant to give them another chance due to my original Yelp review. She said, "That's good." I said, "not for them." Eventually, a manager came over and apologized and said she wished she could have helped sooner. I was honest and told her everything including that I was publishing this on Yelp. We ended up paying $9.00 for the glass of wine. Suffice it to say, I will never go back as there are much better places for breakfast/ brunch in Wauwatosa.
