Came to Milwaukee very early for a medical appointment and decided to have breakfast down the road from the doctor. Immediately greeted upon entering. Not many people there when we arrived but about 6 tables arrived by the time we left. I ordered a southwestern skillet, eggs cooked over medium, and a side of toast. My eggs were cooked PERFECTLY (as you can tell by the photo) with a perfectly runny yolk but completely cooked whites. They forgot the sour cream and salsa but it's okay. The chicken had a great flavor and I loved the crisp tender vegetables. Hubby ordered meat lovers skillet with pancakes on the side. He also ordered a bowl of sausage gravy. He asked for no veggies. They forgot the side of sausage gravy but he asked for it because he likes to place it on his skillet. He said the pancakes were the highlight. He also doesn't normally bring home leftovers but the skillet was good enough, he chose to bring it home and eat it that afternoon. What was special about the pancakes was the vanilla flavor all throughout. If we had to go to Milwaukee for another doctor appointment, we'd return. read more

Upon my arrival and when being seated I noticed all the white customer were seated on one side and all the black customers were seated on the other side. I was shown to the black side. I waited for roughly ten minutes and watched the same pattern for the next 5 groups that arrived. I felt uncomfortable and when the waitress arrived I told her that I was not eating here and will tell the hostess what she is doing is wrong. The waitress said that another customer noticed the same thing as me. When I approached the hostess she immediately because defensive and said look there are some. black people in the white area. She also made reference to liking black people or she would not hire them to do the service work. is it was a coincidence and she did not notice that would not have been the response. Everyone enjoyed their food. I wanted sweet and salty... so I went with a BYO (build your own) skillet with pancakes. I chose turkey sausage, onion, green pepper, mushroom, cheddar cheese, and roasted potatoes for my skillet. I upgraded the side of pancakes to blueberry. Decent sized portions. Sometimes I have to get away from the East side. It's convenient to where I live and there's a lot of great places, but it's easy to get in a rut. Been there, done that. So on an impulse I went to Fox Point and got some breakfast. Maxfield's Pancake House's interior makes me think of a chain all-night breakfast place but if it were a Mom-and-Pop. It was busy though not over-crowded. The carpets and bathrooms have maybe seen better days. The servers were doing a creditable job managing the traffic--tables turning over, large parties, kids, etc. Service was efficient, not hover-y. I'm usually more of a savory-breakfast person even though the pancakes and crepes were tempting. I always say I'm going to get French toast or something and then end up with an omelet because it seems like a better deal. Though in this case pancakes are available as a side to most of the breakfast items. And they were the best part of my meal--fluffy with whipped real butter and syrup. My Greek omelet was good but less memorable. Next time I'll probably stick with the pancakes. The orange juice is fresh squeezed which was nice. I don't get over here often but this was a nice stop. The basic crepe was sweet, not savory, so the tastes did not blend well. The onions and spinach was good. I expected the cheese to be inside the crepe with hollandaise sauce on the top. Instead, there was a large blob of melted cheese on top, and I really didn't see or taste the hollandaise. Hence, it was a disappointment. I ate one of the three crepes and did not ask for a box. Dropped in here for breakfast on a Wednesday around 11:30, and there was plenty of seating available. This is a great place for families, offering a kids menu and booths for seating. The silver dollar pancakes were a perfect size for my 1 year old granddaughter, who ate all of them just using her fingers. The blueberry pancakes were delicious with real, nicely sized blueberries mixed throughout. All the pancakes were nicely sized, light and fluffy. Absolutely perfect! I tried the Eggs Benedict Benny and thought the taste was good, but the English muffin was flattened and not crunchy like an English muffin, and the hollandaise sauce didn't have that classic sheen I've come to expect (if you are big into Eggs Benedict you'll understand what I mean). And the meat itself was perfectly cooked and balanced with the fat content. Loved it!!! Last but not the least at all, the pancakes were thick, fluffy and perfectly sweet. You could make out they werent some store or factory manufactured ones that were so used to eating at chain restaurants. Her excuse was that she was alone and didn't had time to answer. She was very short and curt. The other Maxfields in Fox Points is doing its best to distance themselves from this location in Wauwatosa. The location in Fox Point gets three complaints per day on average. Came here with a good friend for brunch, and Maxfield's really delivered! We put our names down and were anticipating to wait 15 minutes based off of the number of people we saw ahead of us. However, things moved very quickly and we waited only 5 mins before being seated. This place is busy, and after coming here I can see why! I ordered the garden of eatin skillet with hash browns and pancakes. I love brunch food, and I often lean toward savory options but I really loved how I was able to have both! My first visit and was rather happy with my experience. Got together with some friends for breakfast and this is for sure the place for breakfast. They have just about any kind of breakfast food you can imagine. The prices are reasonable and the food was good. Very happy with the Hawaii 5-0, omelet and the polish sausage and eggs. Our beloved North Ave Grill has been closed for remodeling and so we've been exploring back up breakfast places and decided to try Maxwells. I wasn't expecting anything exciting from a place in a strip mall near Mayfair, but I was wrong. Maxwells delivers a solid experience at really reasonable prices. The interior is definitely nicer than "standard diner", and they are only open for breakfast/lunch. Menu-wise, as might be expected there is a focus on pancakes - there are a dozen variants including bacon pancakes and even a baked German version. If you don't want pancakes there are plenty of egg dishes, combinations, a whole page of specials and even crepes and blintzes. I ordered a special which was basically scrambled eggs and ham, served with fruit and potato pancakes for.....$5.99. Serious bargain, people - the ham scrambler at George Webbs is north of $8 these days. Better yet, my breakfast was really good - everything was well cooked and not greasy. Even their potato pancakes were above average which surprised me. Service was good too - our server seemed to know many people by name, which is always a good sign. My vote for best breakfast restaurant in the Milwaukee area, hands down. Well worth the wait if you go there when it is busy. We've eaten there a dozen times since they opened up, a little less than a year ago. Never had a bad experience. Never less than an excellent meal and have never received less that excellent service. Outstanding baked pancakes. Outstanding french toast. Outstanding sausage links; in fact, the best link sausage I've ever eaten in any restaurant. The OJ is amazing; when I asked about it, I was told that they have cartons of oranges delivered daily at the restaurant and that the OJ is fresh squeezed. (No wonder the OJ is a wow). The management/owners know how to run a restaurant and obviously put a lot into their own management and the training and supervision of employees. Once seated, you are greeted quickly and asked what you want to drink. Plenty of servers here that are efficient, service oriented and helpful. Visited Maxfield's around 1:00p this past Sunday. I've been coming here for years but I have to admit I was less than enthused this last time. I ordered the crab Benedict. It was decent. The potatoes were very greasy. I had the cappuccino which tasted amazing and of course the orange juice (fresh squeezed). Now for reason for the 3 stars. I requested lemons with my water to which I was told that due to covid they cannot give me lemons because they have to cut them. If this were not a restaurant that serves food and fresh squeezed orange juice that would be alittle more believable. Service was a bit slow as well. We waited a while to get the check after finished eating. Compared to all of the great experiences I've had here over the years at much busier times I'd have to say this wasn't the best this restaurant can do. Edit to add: I thought the $1.00 price increase was a bit ridiculous. It should be reflected in the overall pricing of the entree not as an additional charge. Makes me think I was charged twice. Especially since it says there is an increase in pricing all over the page. read more
