    Breakfast No. 1

This is still such a great breakfast place! The service is amazing and the food is great. Always curious why there are not more people in here. We love it!

It was noon, but most of us wanted to breakfast food so this seemed like a logical choice. The restaurant was pretty busy, but no wait. Our server was friendly and prompt. Everyone enjoyed their food. I wanted sweet and salty... so I went with a BYO (build your own) skillet with pancakes. I chose turkey sausage, onion, green pepper, mushroom, cheddar cheese, and roasted potatoes for my skillet. I upgraded the side of pancakes to blueberry. Decent sized portions. The pancakes definitely hit the spot. All of the ingredients were fresh. My mom went with the Monte Cristo. It was huge so she had leftovers. My husband chose the country fried steak and nearly cleared his plate. My dad ordered the kitchen sink skillet. It came out as an omelet, but he ate it anyway. This is a great spot with options for everyone. Huge menu, tasty food.

Sometimes I have to get away from the East side. It's convenient to where I live and there's a lot of great places, but it's easy to get in a rut. Been there, done that. So on an impulse I went to Fox Point and got some breakfast. Maxfield's Pancake House's interior makes me think of a chain all-night breakfast place but if it were a Mom-and-Pop. It was busy though not over-crowded. The carpets and bathrooms have maybe seen better days. The servers were doing a creditable job managing the traffic--tables turning over, large parties, kids, etc. Service was efficient, not hover-y. I'm usually more of a savory-breakfast person even though the pancakes and crepes were tempting. I always say I'm going to get French toast or something and then end up with an omelet because it seems like a better deal. Though in this case pancakes are available as a side to most of the breakfast items. And they were the best part of my meal--fluffy with whipped real butter and syrup. My Greek omelet was good but less memorable. Next time I'll probably stick with the pancakes. The orange juice is fresh squeezed which was nice. I don't get over here often but this was a nice stop. The menu is huge and it would be a good place for a group or a family with picky eaters. Truth is I like places like this with their down-to-earth charm. And pancakes.

Traditional dinner with plenty of seating and a rich menu. I went there when it was crowded and busy, which is always a good sign. Service was friendly and fast even though it was a full house. Liked my choice and enjoyed a good meal.

If the servers were a little more professional looking, I'd give it a 5 star rating. Service was average. Wasn't so bad but it wasn't great either. Both the servers were wearing hoodies so we didn't know they were servers. Was kinda weird. But the food we had was delicious! Made up for it. Sausages, nice plump and perfectly cooked. Loved the potatoes and my fiancée said the country fried was pretty good.

Dropped in here for breakfast on a Wednesday around 11:30, and there was plenty of seating available. This is a great place for families, offering a kids menu and booths for seating. The silver dollar pancakes were a perfect size for my 1 year old granddaughter, who ate all of them just using her fingers. The blueberry pancakes were delicious with real, nicely sized blueberries mixed throughout. All the pancakes were nicely sized, light and fluffy. Absolutely perfect! I tried the Eggs Benedict Benny and thought the taste was good, but the English muffin was flattened and not crunchy like an English muffin, and the hollandaise sauce didn't have that classic sheen I've come to expect (if you are big into Eggs Benedict you'll understand what I mean). Still, the corned beef hash and poached eggs served with it were perfect. This is a casual place with a large menu, great for satisfying any pancake craving you may have.

Meat Lovers with Corned Beef Hash. That's a Full Size dinner plate by the way!!!

Their website has a popup on the home page saying it comes with fried haddock, potato pancakes, applesauce, and rye bread, but the popup doesn't list the price and it isn't available through the online ordering function. I ended up calling in an order to go, substituting wheat bread for the rye, and also added a piece of lemon ginger coffee cake. The lemon ginger coffee cake tasted fine, but man was it dry. Like Sahara Desert dry. Maybe this was an anomaly and their other baked goods are better, but I'd be hesitant to try them based on this coffee cake. Even though the website says the side is potato pancakes with applesauce, my fish fry came with fries. They ended up being the best part of the meal, which I certainly wasn't expecting. Still, I was disappointed cause I prefer potato pancakes and was given their inclusion as an expectation. The wheat bread itself was ok, but the butter was oddly unsalted. The fish, of which there was three pieces, was battered with a hint of beer, but like the butter for the bread there was no salt to speak of in the batter. As much as I didn't enjoy the unsalted butter for the bread, not having salt in the batter for the fish managed to be more unpleasant. Maybe Blue's Egg should just stick with serving breakfast items instead of adding something temporary that they clearly aren't pros at.

Since I got to a point in my young life and made my own money and choose the restaurant of my liking with out a parental making my choices I settled into a dive diner like this in Chicago for corn beef hash which at any time of the day I would stop by for and unfortunately it was a can because I hadn't and any real corn beef hash. Lisbon cafe has one thing at this point in my life on the menu that I know when I crave corn beef hash I'm going to get a real deal corn beef hash. It's almost perfect with the ratio of soft hash browns, corn beef, green peppers and onions. Top that with two sunny side up eggs and buttered toast it becomes a breakfast indulgence for me because a real corn beef hash homemade is hard to find like my other favorite from back in the day a real country fried steak because it's all frozen crap today. It's nice to have a quality corn beef hash place when it's few and far between. Yah the decor is old school diner divey but they do one thing I like very well. Service is always friendly. If you like corn beef hash and don't mind a dive cafe I would recommend going for a satisfying real corn beef hash.

Food: They have a large selection of breakfast pastries, including scones, cinnamon rolls, hand pies, and more. There are also some savory items, such as a rosemary biscuit. It was a tough choice, but when in doubt, I go for a scone, and they had a Maple Cinnamon one. I had it warmed up a bit, and it was delicious. These scones are not muffins in disguise, which means the texture is a bit drier and more crumbly--perfect alongside a hot beverage. For my drink, I ordered a London Fog Tea Latte. I was hoping to have it served in an actual ceramic mug, but those are only offered to customers who order drip coffee. That said, they made a very good London Fog, with a little extra lavender and plenty of foam. For my taste, it could have been a bit hotter. Service: Everyone who helped us was kind and helpful and gave us plenty of time to choose the perfect pastries. When ordering the London Fog, they explained how they make theirs and how they would add the extra lavender, which I appreciated. As mentioned above, they do not provide mugs for specialty drinks, using mugs instead to keep track of customers who have paid for bottomless drip coffee. I could bring my own mug from home, but I am not a fan of carrying around coffee shop essentials. Atmosphere: The building is nicely designed on the outside and sits on a corner with plenty of large windows that bring in natural light. It faces north, so you avoid the glaring morning sun. Upon entering, there is a short walk to the counter, where you can view all of the bakery and pastry items. A menu board above clearly displays the breakfast and lunch offerings, making it easy for first time visitors. There are numerous tables that accommodate small groups, and a fireplace with a couple of upholstered chairs offers a cozy seating option. Even after filling up with customers, the noise level was very good, and easy to have casual conversations. A nice visit and a place I would enjoy coming back to.
