Ok. So, I've never written a review before, but I felt inspired after the brunch I had this morning at Blue's Egg:
After hearing about Blue's Egg for a year or so, I finally ventured out to Wauwatosa with my sister for brunch. I had pretty high expectations because of all the great reviews I had read online. Well, as one could expect for Sunday brunch, it was *packed*. We waited for about 40 minutes (they said it would be up to an hour), but it was a nice day and we waited outside. There was a minibar set up and we had bloody marys and chatted while we waited.
When we were finally seated, our server, Justin, introduced himself and explained the specials and questions we had about the menu. At no point did we feel rushed, rather we felt like Justin talked to us like it was a casual day and he had all the time in the world for us. I was somewhat taken aback by his genuinely kind demeanor (in what seemed like a hectic late-morning rush).
We ordered our food and when it arrived, even the food runner didn't seem rushed and chatted with us for a moment! They were all so nice!
Now for the food: completely fulfilled expectations! Everything tasted like it had been made from scratch, even the jam! It was delicious! I had a salmon crepe with cheese and pulled ham hashbrowns. My sister had a seafood omelette with EVOO hashbrowns. I remember trying some of her omelette and thinking "whoa." Like, it was so good I couldn't think of anything else! Just "whoa". And my crepes were *so* good! I wish I could have described them better, but it's like my brain went blank! My tastebuds were so so happy! Oh my goodness.
It was then that I realized why there had been such a wait!
My sister and I noticed that their egg plate special donated a portion of the sales to their charity of the month, Autism Speaks. My sister is a therapist for children with autism and we wanted to donate to the cause, even though we hadn't ordered the special. Justin was more than gracious about us doing this! He also explained how Blue's Egg supports local Milwaukee area charities because of the larger community impact (vs a national charity). That was really nice to know about.
Even though the waitstaff seemed so relaxed and laid back, they were by no means slow! I ordered a mimosa and it was brought to the table within two minutes! It's like the waiter had barely left and there it was. The food was also ready within ten minutes or so. It made the wait to get a table even more minimal, as I have experienced (and had expected) much longer wait times between ordering and serving.
Justin was very attentive but never felt overbearing; he seemed to know when we needed refills, wanted to have take home boxes, that we wanted bags, that we would need two bags, etc. But never did we feel rushed! It was all perfect timing. Honestly, I have never had a better waitstaff experience. It made the meal so much better! Everyone was so nice! I couldn't believe it! Like, genuinely nice, not fake nice. Even the bill came back so fast after I gave my card that as we were leaving my sister was like "wait! Did you pay?" and I was like "yeah." And she was like "wow. That was really fast!"
Even as we left, the foodrunner chatted with us again for a bit and we talked about the great service and the delicious looking foods in the display case. When my sister and I finally exited the building ,we both just looked at each other, dazed, that we had had such an amazing experience! I can't wait to introduce this restaurant to more friends who, like me, have heard of Blue's Egg but never visited. Highly recommended!
(Side Note: My sister has been to Maxie's Southern Comfort, Blue's Egg's sister restaurant. I haven't been there but she told me that place is super delicious, too.) read more
