My second visit to Blue's Egg warrants an updated review. My first visit was plagued with trouble in the food and wait times. On this visit, we went on a weekday and were seated quickly. The place was hopping. Our server was good with a bit of sass in her sense of humor. I would describe Blue's Egg as breakfast comfort food. Foodie dishes, rather odd combinations, no calorie counting here. They do have sandwiches as well, but I believe those are only available at certain times. The focus is breakfast. A variety of egg dishes with unique ingredients. I had the french toast. It was good. It came with a side, and I opted for the veggie sausage. As many of my reviews note, I hate hate hate hate bell peppers. Can't stand them. The flavor contaminates anything it touches. Well, these "sausage" patties really need to be re-named bell pepper patties. These bell pepper patties came in sets of 2 and were the size of a burger/veggie burger. It was a total bust. My french toast was good, though. Overall a decent experience. Would please most of the family, as long as they don't mind waiting for a table. read more

It was b day weekend. So for breakfast is a great choice for me. I love Blue's Egg! My cousin told the waiter it was my b day and he made a taste plate with a sugar cookie with what tasted like ground coffee, a chocolate and peanut butter cup, and a lemon lime macaroon. Staff at Blue's are very personable and wanna you to have a great experience. Onto the food...I had buttermilk pancake, bacon (extra crispy), fried egg with cheddar, and Browns with cheddar. Omg!! Every time I go here I get something new and it is always amazing. I've had the crab cakes, a few different types of eggs Benedict, the pulled ham, lemon curd stuffed French toast, and more. No joke, this was one of the best breakfasts i've ever had. While on a road trip-- I used the yelp app for blackberry-- and it suggested this place. It was a Thursday morning, around 9am-- and the place was lively. At first, we were told we'd have a 15 minute wait, but after realizing our entire party was there ready to be seated-- the host seated us immediately. Our waitress quickly saw to getting us waters and beverages-- and greeted us with the so much warmth and sincerity. She explained some of the dishes we had questions about-- and she was so enthusiastic about our menu choices-- not in a overly sweet way, but a genuine "this food is awesome!" kind of way. The food arrived-- and I was stunned. For the price i paid (just under $11) i got the Old English benedict, and it was worth WAY more than what I paid-- the quality of the food, the portions, the way it was prepared and the service-- it was all out of this world. I know my family felt the same way about the french toast orders. Finally, the thing that really knocks this review up to 5 stars? The involvement this restaurant has with the community. All around the restaurant-- and even on the evaluation cards they hand out with the bill-- they're taking a genuine interest in the community that surrounds it. If only I could find a place like this in Dublin, I'd be happy for life. This is my favorite breakfast/brunch place, hands down. There is always a line out the door, which is a great sign that this place is worth the wait. If you're coming in on a weekend morning, you can plan on waiting about 45 minutes, but while you're waiting, check out the morning cocktail list....their samosas and bloody mary's are heavenly. The food is always fresh and the offerings are simple, yet creative. All mains come with your choice of side, ranging from granola to homemade chorizo and everything in between. My absolute favorite breakfasts there were "The Dubliner", "Blue's Classic" Benedicts, and the blueberry pancakes. With The Dubliner, don't let corned beef put you off, as I'd never had it before I tried to here, and it was amazing. So succulent, flavorful and savory. With the large portion and your choice of sides, it's hard not to fill up before you've finished your meal, but it's important to leave room for the sweets. I never have room, which is why I have my monkey bread before I even have my breakfast! There are only two words to describe Blue's Egg: Worth it. The wait is usually about an hour during peak weekend hours (worth it), but there's a bar (cash only) out on the patio with a few options including mimosas, bloody's, and coffee with Kahlua for people who are waiting. They also have self-serve coffee that will be automatically added to your bill when you get a table. This makes waiting a lot better. When we sat down, our server brought us some fresh grapes for us to munch on because he knew we'd been waiting for a while, which was a really nice gesture. We ordered monkey bread for the table, and paid the extra dollar to get the whiskey caramel sauce (worth it). It's small but I consider it to be a must-try. For breakfast, I had the pulled ham omelet, mostly because I highly appreciate the genius behind the idea that is pulled ham. It was everything I wanted it to be - tender, juicy, and flavorful. On the side I upgraded to the stuffed hash browns (WORTH IT). I chose to stuff them with goat cheese, roasted olives, and paprika aioli. Yes, it was fancy and yes, it tasted amazing. There are several options for stuffing, including chicken chorizo or roasted mushrooms, and it would be a darn shame if someone ordered plain hash browns at this restaurant. If you're having a leisurely weekend morning and don't mind waiting for some of the best food and service in the area, head over to Blue's Egg for an extremely memorable experience. Such friendly and helpful staff and AMAZING food!!! We will come back here, for sure. My husband and I ordered eggs Benedict. His was the traditional and mine was the Florentine, but I added their signature, brined and slow roasted fall-off-the-bone ham. It was delectable. The hollandaise sauce was creamy, thick and clearly home made, as was the English muffin the whole entree was built upon. My son ordered the Carmel Apple French toast which was a sweet bourbon Carmel creation with Creme Fresh on top and slivered nuts. So sweet, but somehow balanced. Amazing!!!! My daughter ordered steak and eggs which a bit peppery fir her, but was also cooked to perfection. The hash browns had a nice crisp on them and the house made strawberry jam was to die for. Finally, and most importantly, they served a rich cup of coffee that complimented everything perfectly. I would highly recommend Blues Egg!!! read more

I really enjoyed Blue's Egg, but I don't think its quite worthy of 5 stars. I have been here a couple times, and the food is really good every time I go. The portion sizes are large, and there are plenty of options to choose from. Compared to its competition among top-brunch spots in Milwaukee, Blue's Egg is top 3 for sure. Popped in for brunch this morning. Blues Egg is always a favorite. As expected it was a busy morning. Had 23 tables in front of us and we're told it was a 40 minute wait, which was no big deal since it was nice for a wisconsin winter. Was pleasantly surprised that is was only about a 20 minute wait!! I ordered the roasted root hash and my friend ordered a special, egg nog French toast. She really enjoyed her meal. Mine was pretty good as well. Consisted of potatoes, carrots, onions and beets and was topped with a spicy hollandaise sauce. Flavor was awesome and I left satisfied, my only complaint was that the potatoes were a little firm (like still crunchy in the middle) but all other veggies were awesome, cooked through but still firm. And the sauce was unique and had the perfect amount of spice. For as busy as it was, the service was fast (and our server made great recommendations- really knew the menu). Whyyyyy didn't I know this place was so good???? I would have tried a long time ago. We were looking for a change of the "standard" breakfast food and have found a new standard! Location is convenient for our home, but could be a bit of a hike if you are in Milwaukee. Location is very unassuming. I drove by it every day for a year without even knowing how great it is inside! Definitely get there early! We got there around 8:45 on a Saturday and was seated right away. Place looks well kept, nice decor, not too loud, not too big. If you get there anytime after 9 am, be prepared to wait, especially with a party larger than 2. TOTALLY worth the wait! There's also a little outdoor patio with a bar outside. Can't wait until it's so hot so we can have a drink with our breakfast. I went standard and ordered pancakes, but thought long and hard about stuffed hash browns. Hubby ordered the daily hash brown special (nacho). Flipping delicious. Just go right for the stuffed hash browns and something else on the side and call it a day. I can't wait to go back to try the ham and cheese or the goat cheese which both sound amazing. Hash browns were perfectly cooked, bacon was thick, delicious, and crispy, and there's a large bar menu (breakfast BONUS!) Don't let the crowd outside dissuade you, they have a small bar serving mimosas, sangria, bloodie marys and beers while you wait for your seat! I've never been here when it wasn't packed and there wasn't a wait of at least 30-40mins. However each time has been well worth the wait! The selection is amazing and the execution of every plate I have tried was perfect. The stand out for me the last time I went was the corned beef hash and eggs. It was legit corned beef and potatoes....not cubed corned beef but actually shredded, meaty and delicious! The home made English muffins were amazing!!! I also had a specialty coffee which was probably the best coffee I have ever had in my life. I would do a road trip to Milwaukee specifically for this place any day of the week. read more

Have probably been here half a dozen times and am pleased to say that Blue's Egg never disappoints. Every single thing that I've ordered has been excellent: corned beef hash, blueberry pancakes, fried chicken sandwich, and their specials (especially the ones with potato pancakes). The portions are HUGE. I can never manage to finish my food when I go. I also like that they start you off with some refreshing grapes before the meal. This is overall definitely the brunch place to beat in Tosa/Milwaukee. One thing to note though... do not come here for a light meal, the food is so hearty and rich that you will be in a food coma for the rest of the day. read more

Brought two out-of-town friends here for breakfast. I tried the Blue's Crab Cake, served on a bed of greens, with two poached eggs and toast. Absolutely delicious. Both friends got the two eggs, bacon and browns. I tasted the mushroom and leeks stuffed hashbrowns, and they were stellar. Crispy, with lots of flavor. Not sure if it was seasonal, but the pumpkin spice latte was amazing as well. I'd recommend to friends and visitors alike. We hit this place two or three times every time we're in Milwaukee. They serve a wide range of traditional breakfast items, along with daily specials. The portions are plentiful and the ingredients seem very fresh. We have never been disappointed. If you're going for breakfast, I recommend going early. The Black Spoon restaurant group has scored again . I completed the full cycle of Maxie's, Story Hill, and finally ,last Friday, Blue's Egg. The menu is innovative, the ingredients fresh, and the execution / service, seamless . The secret is out about Blue Egg, so to reinforce many of the other Yelper warnings, expect decent waits during the "amateur hours" on weekends. ( We went around 1:30pm, and had no wait on a Friday afternoon). Our order included one of their Benedict's called the "Dubliner". A thick slice of rye toast was covered with a braised leek reduction and sliced corned beef. Topped with two perfectly poached eggs and a paprika aioli, Delicious. Server suggested the "Hopple Popple". It's a dish I first tried in Berlin years ago,( the morning, after much partying.) Its a restaurant's way of using up tidbits from the prior evening's service. More often than not, it is composed of eggs, some kind of leftover cooked meat, and onions. In Midwest cities with decent size German population it's not hard to find. Enter Milwaukee. The Blue's Egg rendition was still creamy scrambled eggs mixed with sautéed potatoes & spinach, slowly cooked down caramelized onions, a touch of cream, smoky bacon, and sausage all mixed together then topped with freshly made hollandaise ( not the typical glop of yellow colored wallpaper paste served at breakfast places) It was decadently rich. We did a side order of the "Blues Browns" hash browns perfectly crisp on the outside, and soft on the inside) . To add insult to an already injurious amount of cholesterol, we split one order of Monkey Bread for dessert. It too was over the top....slap yo mama good. read more

Food: Totally agree with the recos for the Dubliner. The corned beef tasted incredible with the leeks. Also get anything with the homemade granola; it is arguably one of the best I've had. Service: The wait was only 25 minutes and our waiter was prompt and courteous. One of my favorite brunches ever. Simple, but oh so well done! We got lucky and were able to score two seats at the bar with no wait at all. Started with one of their veggie bloody marys (excellent bacon garnish!) and Miller High Life mini. Perfect way to start the day. Pair that with the crunked monkey bread and your day just got better. I considered a second order, but I am glad I saved some room. The omelet was probably one of the best I have ever had. Star of the show: the pulled ham. Seriously, was skeptical at first but you walk in the door and all worries are thrown right out. Every detail is spot on. The napkins are cool, the way they serve water, the servers. It is all as if you stepped back in time to simple ease I guess. The food was AMAZING!!! I had the Belllini cocktail (hmmm), the polenta with wild mushrooms, poached eggs, kale and the thai curry baked browns with greek yogurt sauce. Wonderful food. My friend had an omelette that you would think was made by angels. The server was outstanding as well. He gave great reviews of the food and even helped us pick out what we should get based on what we told him we liked. Blue's Egg is top notch. There needs to be more breakfast joints in the world like this. Why aren't there? Yes it's a little busy, but in a good way. Would you really want to go to some place were there were only 2-3 people dining? Not me. I had an egg white pulled ham omellete, which was outstanding. The sides were good too. The staff was friendly and helpful, and $25 (including a 25% tip) for two people including 2 meals, beverages, & complementary sides isn't that expensive. Especially since there were enough leftovers to take home. Not sure why some people are saying it's too expensive. Perhaps compared to dumps like MacDonalds and IHOP. Don't listen to the naysayers. I was greatly disappointed to find such a long wait time, because i was really looking forward to devouring their amazing food. Been wanting to try this place for a while and finally did. Yes the wait was quite long, but the outdoor bar made it ok. We waited about 45 mins before we got seated. Ran into a friend there as well and they accommodated our extra seat (it was just a party of two at the time we threw our names down on the wait list) w/o any issue. It's difficult to believe that I can't wait until my next visit, as our party of 7 waited for 70 minutes to be seated--I was cranky after the first 20 minutes of waiting. This is a prime Milwaukee spot for brunch ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. (What?! Yeap.) It is ALWAYS packed so plan accordingly (like, go ready to chill and drink a Bloody for a bit...there are worse things in life). I can't rate this place a any higher. This is one of my favorite breakfast places in town. The food is always piping hot and tasty. The daily specials are adventurous. Started with a bloody Mary made with the house infused vodka. Mmm-mmm! A shorty chaser of Miller high-life and we're on our way. Next, some monkey bread with the crunk sauce. I usually do savory but this morning went sweet. I was not disappointed with my Dora French Toast. A little bacon on the side. A slight mixup on my wife's order. No big deal and they made it right, apologised and comped her breakfast. Not necessary but appreciated! If you are an early riser and get there at opening you will not have to wait.
